Efficient and friendly service, but crappy car. The check-in process was efficient and the person helping us was friendly and helpful. When we returned the car, it was easy and fast. The actual car, however, was beat. The interior was dirty, couldn't see well out of the front windshield in the late light until we stopped to clean it ourselves. The tires were worn, needing to be replaced, and we actually did replace the wipers for our own safety since the one on the driver side did not clear the window. We were reimbursed for the wipers, but generally unhappy about the overall condition of the car. It also had no amenities like nav or ability to play music from our phone, so make sure you ask for those things if you need them. read more

Arrived with a booking on 8/28/25 at 6:10, and waited until 6:25 at the front of the line with one lady sitting at her desk - but she wouldn't make eye contact with us. She didn't greet us. She didn't say that we would be helped soon. So I walked around to another hertz lady to see if she was a better person to stand in front of and she told me sternly that the "line was over there" (where I had been standing). Not at all very clear or kind. Eventually I was helped by the manager who was very kind and almost made up for the rudeness. But at the same time...something's up with all the workers. This was my first time using Hertz. My experience was going well until it went downhill. The shuttle service was convenient. The car I initially got wasn't a good fit for me, but thankfully I was allowed to choose another car. There's a good variety of cars to select from. The car I chose was clean and a great drive. I removed two stars because the check-in process was disorganized and one of the employees was incredibly rude, disrespectful, and unhelpful when I was returning the car. I followed the return signs and drove where the employees were guiding all the cars to go. The car in front of me parked in an open spot and I did the same. The employee came up to me and said in an annoyed and aggravated tone that I parked in the wrong spot and that I should've paid attention. To this day I don't know what I did wrong. But it was blindingly sunny so I may have missed a sign. When I asked for instructions she said, "you would know if you paid attention". So you tell me I've made a mistake and when I try to correct it, you dismiss me and don't offer any help? What a joke of a person. It's disappointing that Hertz allows such rude behavior. This hertz location is a massive car rental facility a few minutes from the airport. You have to take a shuttle bus to get there. They do a good job processing hundreds of people a day. Make sure you book everything ahead of time and add any additional policy or features you want. They were friendly and didn't push too much. It's very easy to get overcharged. Going back is the same it's all like herding people through. You drop off the car and then just go. They emailed a receipt in a few hours and everything was accurate. Don't expect personal service and attention here and you will be fine. Pretty much all of the car rental companies are like this. read more

BEWARE!!! NEVER rent from Hertz at LAX! First, the shuttle bus to the Marriott took half an hour to come to bring us to the car rental in the hotel. Then there is one person at the desk who was quite incompetent. Many keys were in a drawer and he couldn't find our car key. He then gives us an SUV which we didn't book then took that back only to say he only had electric cars available, which I do not know how to drive! Sorry. There are no other cars for us. We get outside to collect the car, and it's a HYBRID! The guys was SO slow and uninformed to say the least. We travelled 3000 to deal with a very incompetent dealer. I had already done my homework, so I knew in advance that the Hertz location where I booked my car rental pick up and drop off was NOT at LAX airport. I had to board a Hertz shuttle at the airport that picked me up and then transported me to the Hertz rental location no more than 2 miles away. I'm a Herts Gold Member, but I found a very good rental rate through AmEx for the 5 days I was going to be in SoCal. Unfortunately, this meant that I was not going to be treated like a Gold Member. Instead of looking for my name that showed which parking space my rental car was parked in and being able to bypass going to the counter, I had to go to wait in line and talk to a rep at the counter. I waited in line for about 20 minutes before being waved over to the counter by one of the employees. Unfortunately, I got the employee with neither customer service skills nor personality, and definitely didn't have a sense of urgency to get customers in cars and on with their business. So after checking my ID and running my credit card, she told me that I could choose any rental car parked between two different numbers. I asked her where these cars were, and she just pointed in a general direction that only she understood. I knew other Hertz employees were walking around the property, so I hoped that I would run into one of them who was a lot more helpful than Ms No Personality at the counter. I was so happy that an employee seeing the "I'm lost" expression on my face understood it and answered my questions, walking with means showing which spaces of cars that I could choose any car from. It took me about 10 minutes of walking around, looking at mostly SUVs made by Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, Ford, Chevy, Mazda and even Infiniti, before I decided on a Mazda rental CX-5 that was easy on gas, especially since the price of gas in the LA metro area was over $4 per gallon. It had external and internal marks and scratches, so took pics just in case there was a dispute later on, which never happened. Driving off of the Hertz rental property didn't take long. The SUV handled well and I didn't have any issues with it during the five days I used it. I filled up the tank prior to returning it to the same location I picked it up from. When I got back onto the Hertz property, signage showed where I needed to go. However, I wasn't sure where exactly I was supposed to stop and park. I saw an employee near where I thought I was supposed to drop off the vehicle, but the employee seemed to ignore me and didn't give me any type of indication where to stop. I had turned off the ignition, and then started it up again and started moving the SUV. That's when the employee suddenly took interest in what I was doing and looked at me, started waving his arms and formed an X with his arms. Oh, so you WERE watching me earlier but just wanted to be unhelpful, huh? OK, thanks for nothing! I turned off the engine, and handed the keys to the employee, who gave me a printout of my final charges. I looked at the breakdown and saw nothing out of the ordinary, so I grabbed my luggage and immediately boarded a waiting shuttle that dropped me off at LAX. My experience was OK. It was actually the low level of customer service from two unhelpful employees that brought the rating down to just OK. I hadn't noted this earlier, but the Hertz shuttle drivers were courteous and informative. read more

We had misread our train schedule and in a pinch Manny the Manager and Mike ( in the Ventura office) worked out an urgent trip to take us to the train station with our bags. I'm really bummed to write this review- because it is NOT about the employees or the cars- it's about the greedy business model. I've rented with Hertz twice now and haven't received my deposit back. Their contracts and agreements state that safety deposits will be returned 3-4 days after the rental period. Last time it took 3 months, and for my most recent rental we're going on 6 weeks. I returned both cars fully gased, and technically cleaner than they left the lot (yes, I buffed out paint transfers that were preexisting on their vehicles AND identified the areas with pictures before leaving the lot) What's worse is I can't get through to customer service over the phone. For the love of (insert your deity here) can y'all get rid of the automated systems? Create some jobs in this economy? JFC A person on the other end of the line could have helped me in 10 minutes, and now you gotta read this long-ass rant. That's all I'm saying! Crooked business practices. The experience went from worried to greatness due to the lifetime commitment to excellence by Annie. Our flight arrived earlier, so my name was not on the arrival board for my car. That's not unusual, I've been with Hertz Gold since 1992, so I knew it was a timing issue. Since I input my flight information when I travel I hope the computer tracks the flight but it doesn't always work. I jumped into the Gold membership area where all hands were on deck. I reserved a luxury car, and was sent to a specific stall. I prefer just going to the Presidents Circle or Gold area depending on status. To my surprise the car was a Hyundai. I don't care what anyone tells me, I do not consider Hyundai's to be luxury cars. They are knockoffs of other brands in my humble opinion. I went back to the Gold area & Annie was outside with her computer helping people.She jumped into action!! She contacted someone on the radio and inquired about a Chrysler 300, which was the only other car listed for the category I rented. There were some in the wash area and would be a while to get through the cleaning. We then we to the President's circle and found a SUV. She got water for us and thanks us. Avoid at all costs -this company is clownshoes I rented and paid for a cat rental in April 2025. Paid for it using my Chime credit card and they took the money IMMEDIATELY. I go to the pick up the car today and am told I can't use a chime card. But they still took my money. I go through the Facebook page to be passed around from agent to agent to be told my refund will take 3 to 5 business days. Meanwhile the trip I had planned for a graduation is in jeopardy. Hertz LAX - Terrible Experience and Horrible Customer Service I am absolutely furious with my recent experience with Hertz. This was my first time using my points for a car rental, and it turned into an absolute nightmare. I ordered the car through the Hertz app, followed the instructions, and thought everything would go smoothly. However, things took a drastic turn when I arrived at Hertz LAX. I received an email saying all I needed to do was go to the Gold Member line and choose a car. So, I showed up, saw my name on the board, and went straight to the Gold Member lot, expecting an easy pick-up. When I was checking out, the employee didn't say a word about anything extra, just handed me the receipt, and I left. To my shock, what should have been a car rental for less than $100 ended up being over $200! Not once did the employee mention I was being charged extra, nor did she inform me that my rental had been updated to the full rate without any prior communication. When I called the Hertz service line to try to resolve this, no one could help me. I even returned the car a full day early, thinking that might reduce the cost, but nothing changed. I asked if my points could be reimbursed since the rental was significantly more expensive than expected. Their response? No. Apparently, they had already processed the charge, and they had updated the rate to a daily rate, meaning I paid as if I hadn't even reserved the car, and they used my points for the cost of that inflated rate. So not only do I end up paying 2-3 times more than I should have, but I also lose my points, which is just ridiculous. There was zero communication about any of this. Why wasn't I informed beforehand that I needed to go to the counter to check out a car instead of just choosing one from the Gold Member lot? Why didn't I get an email warning me that the rate might change? Why was there no transparency at any point? The entire experience was insane, and I feel completely taken advantage of. If I could give a negative review, I would. I have the reservation, but they didn't have the car available. It was middle of the night and we had to stand in line to wait for the car. They said they were bringing the cars from other locations. After waiting for 30 minutes and learning that some people had been waiting for more than 1 hr, I gave up. They were still few people in front of me and they hadn't gotten their car either. At first, I thought this could be resolved if I had the status or pre check in. But I spoke to some of the people who were waiting, and they didn't have their car either even though their names were on the Gold screen. Anyhow, all of us who were standing in line had reservation. I'm not going to use names as I believe it will impact the associates directly. However, the LAX location charges a full day rate although the return is less than 24 hours later. First, the representative at the LAX location was not friendly. I began by asking for a Jeep or convertible to rent and the representative mentioned that those type of cars could not be taken from the LAX Hertz to another Hertz location in another city. He then tells me, due to the inconvenience, he upgraded me, which I was excited about, but turns out it wasn't an upgrade at all. I was upgraded to "Zone 3" which is was considered a compact car, which originally I did not even ask for nor want, and the instructions provided to pick a car were not clear. We had to flag down two different employees to show us what was available. Finally, after struggling for some time to open the trunk on a Ford (broken latch), we drove off in a Toyota. To make matters worse, the next day, I head over to Cerritos Ford Hertz location to drop off the vehicle, as assigned, and waited over 45 minutes for a Hertz representative to NEVER show up! Even the Ford employees told me that the Hertz representatives are hardly ever there at that location!! Seriously inconvenient!! Especially when throughout this entire experience, I have my young child with me! SO WHY EVEN OFFER THAT LOCATION AS A DROP OFF OPTION??? We then had to drive to the Downey location to drop off the vehicle. Since there wasn't a representative at the Cerritos Ford Hertz, I call Customer Service to advise them of the situation and the call center representative had the nerve to tell me there would be no additional charge for taking the car to another location and for turning it in late! WHAT????? I showed up hours early AND STILL drove the the car to another location. Where was the Hertz representative at though!?!?!? The Downey location was the only place that had helpful employees. Otherwise, this experience was a nightmare. I always rent cars from Hertz. I have another week long trip in a few days, but after this experience, I am definitely taking my business elsewhere and if you're a parent, traveling with children, please do the same. read more

Drive to gate to leave out, waited over 10 minutes to find out that I had to go back to the GOLD member desk.. Had to wait another 10 min to see another agent. What a shit show. I waited over an hour in line to get to talk to a customer service employee because the car I reserved was not available at the time of pick up. I checked in early online through the link the day before but still the car was not available. After waiting in line for an hour, the employee "upgraded" the car for free and assigned a vehicle to me. Then I was told to pick any full size car parked within "presidents circle" but when I went out there there were no cars but another line with another employee assigning cars as they came in one by one. When I went to leave I was told that the car I was in was not the car assigned. I explained the situation at the counter and she updated the vehicle info on my account. I've been a President circle member for 5 years now and everything about this location from customer service to the restroom facilities to the selection of cars have truly plummeted. It's unfortunate they have filed for bankruptcy but if they keep up the customer service they have, they will find themselves staying down. I was being serviced by an agent who left and forgot all about me then the manager, Jonah, was helping me and he is unapproachable, unfriendly, lacks true customer satisfaction and ensuring his loyal customers retention rate is maintained. The restrooms are under maintained, lacks proper sanitation and the few good workers they have look exhausted from having to over deliver for the many who aren't. My experience was smooth from the shuttle ride to the drop off. Maybe partly because I have President circle level. I didn't have to go to a desk or stand in line. I went straight to the area where the President circle car inventories were and was told to pick whatever car I wanted. Originally I didn't reserved a Tesla but decided to just get one this time. The two black gentlemen were very nice and had great customer service. The young black gentleman that has the beautiful curly hair was extremely helpful and showed me how to use the vehicle. Returning the Tesla was just as easy. Came in and dropped it off and went straight to the shuttle to the airport. Would defiantly be back again. read more

Holy waste my time! Not sure what world that waiting in a line for over an hour is acceptable and having the front desk staff moving like molasses. And it was hot, turn on the AC man, we pay you enough. Most of the staff were dead in the eyes and had no personality, who is training these people. Car smelled like weed, not that I mind weed but I dont want to rent a car that smells like weed. Really poor service. Care was in good condition, but Ill never do that again. Review is not about the employees, they are SO nice and helpful. Review is for their business model. I had a reservation for 12pm pick up a mini van with a front facing child seat. When I got to the hertz around 1, they had neither. The employee helped us by booking a giant truck (not ideal but hey whatever gets us out) but still no child seat. So our 2.5 y/o has been stuck crying for going on 3 hours now with no indication when we can get out. This is horrible! read more
