I was overcharged for an extra day and it took 3 calls to the desk agents to get it credited, despite being told after each call they would fix it. Car was good, but the windshield wiper fluid was broken so we couldn't clean the windshield. Even bought a gallon of fluid myself thinking it was just empty! None in the garage upon return to the airport hence the 6+ hour delay from when we dropped the car off to when it was actually registered as returned. I have been Hertz Gold / Platinum member for a long time, renting vehicle directly from Hertz from time to time. For our family trip to Ashville, NC, I booked 7 seater SUV at least 6 to 8 weeks advance charging over $300 per day. On arrival on 7.19.2025, we were informed they do not have the vehicle and they can only give 5 seater small suv for 3 days. To our surprise there were 2 large 7 seater SUV were still in the parking lot, I took picture and it is posted. The booking clerk did not have any apology, rather stated straightaway, we don't have any vehicle and can't do anything. Since we were 7 adults, we had to Uber extra for 2 people every time we travelled. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE. NO FOLLOW-UP CALL TO APOLOGIZE OR REFUND THE CHARGES ?? The worst rental car experience I've ever had. Hertz customers beware: this is NOT a Hertz corporate location. This is a third party licensee. They have no regard for your Hertz customer status or relationship. They have no access to your stored information on your Hertz online profile. We were in Ashville to see our daughter in Mars Hill. During our visit - she was hospitalized and we needed to extend our stay. We weren't sure how long but started with 5 days. This is when I learned all about how these third party operators function. I couldn't use the app or the website to extend. The system wouldn't recognize the booking codes I had been provided. When I called Hertz - I was informed of their position as a third party and was advised to call them directly. In so doing - I was connected the rudest, most dismissive individual I have ever encountered on a customer service level. This individual seemed to enjoy telling me that, in order to extend my rental, I would need to drive back to the airport. Well over an hour round trip. This marked the end of my 20 year relationship with Hertz as a Gold member. The corporate offices were entirely unable to assist me in extending the rental. They did nothing to compensate me for this experience. And I will never rent from Hertz again unless there are no other options. I returned the car at the airport and rented a car from Avis - which was an Avis corporate location. The car we received was a wreck. It had white cross marks on two large door dents and smelled so bad we had to drive with the windows open for two days. It should have been taken out of service - not rented to anyone - much less to a Hertz Gold member. And yet - after parking the car in a private garage to air out, dents and all, I just wanted to keep the car so that we could see our daughter and get her home from the hospital before heading back. Instead, I had to leave her bedside, drive to the airport, and change vehicles. I'm done with Hertz. But, if you do value your relationship with this company, begin to inquire as to whether you're being served by a corporate store or third party. And definitely avoid this third party and all of their brands at this location. read more

DO NOT book if you're under 25. Hertz has a program for 20-24 year olds that my friends and I all paid the extra fee for. I called hertz and confirmed we would be allowed to pick up a car as long as we paid the fee. The rep said all we needed was our drivers licenses and confirmation code. When I arrived at Asheville, the desk said I needed numerous forms like my insurance vin number, expiration date, policy, and physical card to scan. What?! I was told I only needed my drivers license but whatever, we needed a car. I stand there for 2 hours getting all this information and when I finally get everything together the desk goes, "Wait you're not 25? We cant give you a car." You've got to be kidding me. So I wasted 3 hours of mine and my friend's life, we couldn't get a car, and I'm STILL waiting for a $500 refund. Do not book with Hertz. read more

Nobody inside , nobody answer the phone, voicemail box is full. Stuck here waiting with another customer for 30 minutes. Then all they have when they arrive from grabbing lunch is a mini van when I should have a gotten a suv. Supposed to close at 1pm. Take a lunch break at noon. The Customer Service when I first got to the counter didn't exist and when the lady did walk up and check in she was very kind. The one star rating is due to the fact that I needed them several times and I could not get a hold of them on the telephone on any number. The rental process was very confusing. The airport is very confusing and each Hertz location has a different process of renting cars. Asheville is several years behind. The place to get your keys is a lot farther from where the car actually is. ( Could be from construction). The service was fine and pleasant. However, as a GOLD Member she asked for my ID and asked for insurance. (Which on my account has all that information already) Returning the car however was extremely confusing especially before hours when no one is there. I did not know where to park and where to leave the keys. It was not clear what needed to be done. Then two weeks later I received an additional charge. Still battling with this company. I rented a car from Hertz/Dollar on June 13th I needed to upsize the car so on June 16th I turned in the vehicle I had and rented a larger one. They said I would get credit for returning the original car early, then made me pay for the larger vehicle and the time I would have that one. It's been 2 months of me trying to contact them to get my refund for turning in the first one early! They double charged me and I am getting no response from anyone. I got a case number and that's it. They said they have no log of me even getting the second vehicle but yet they see the larger charge. It makes no sense. I prepaid and preordered a specific size suv for our needs and was given a much smaller car and charged more. When I explained that was not the size we ordered the lady at the counter argued that it was the same. Our luggage did nit fit in the vehicle plus I had a passenger on crutches which made the smaller vehicle much worse. Their airport was all torn up for construction which made it impossible for us to all go back and try to get the car I ordered. I had a really good trip, and it was in large part to the rental car (large pickup truck) I chose over a minivan. I believe that cruising through the mountains of North Carolina in anything other than a pickup just isn't worth the effort. Hertz was great, but I would advise filling up at the gas station before returning the car. So much cheaper! The only issue I really had was the long wait to get my car in the first place. Arrived, waited over 50 minutes in line for what has to be the rudest customer service agent, to tell me I could continue to wait or just take what she had to offer - which wasn't the car I reserved ... wanted ... needed ... When I asked how I could reserve a car, plan on the space for the luggage I had with me and our family I was proven wrong .... it was only then did I truly encounter the rudest customer service agent who told us to take it or leave it - she didn't care, move out of the way. This was the same dark headed, 5'5, older lady who came from the other side of the Hertz wall eating and drinking but was NOT available to help check in the 11 people WAITING in line and offered absolutely nothing helpful. There are about 5 other companies at the Asheville airport to rent from ... DO IT ... WALK AWAY FROM HERTZ ... HITCHHIKE TO WHERE YOU HAVE TO GO ... Hertz was quick to give me a car with a chipped windshield, a golf ball sized dent in the rear quarter panel, scuffs all over the rear bumper and the jeep logo half missing on a 3000 mile grand Cherokee. the rep didn't dictate any of this damage and told me to photograph any damage if I saw it! I guess the customer now indirectly works for hertz. I noticed the chip in the windshield shortly after picking up the car and photographed the damage. upon dropping the car off, the agent said that hertz doesn't allow cars to be rented with chipped windshields yet I got one! then I get charged 65 dollars for the chip!!!! Horrible. Had a reservation. Was greeted at the desk with, "We have no cars. We will take your name and call you when one is available. It could be one or more hours till a car is available." This was followed up when I asked about making a reservation for a car and expectation I was coming..the response was, " this happens all the time." There were only four seats near the desk and those were already taken. I had three 11 year old kids and three other adults who were ready to head out to the final destination. Due to Hertz running out of the car we reserved which was a mini-van all the other counters were out too as people went to other vendors. Out of an estimation of $500+ for a seven day rental I was offered $50 credit and 750 points off a future rental. I can tell you now I will NOT be returning to Hertz. read more

This was by far the worst car rental experience I've ever had. I specifically rented a GMC Yukon at a higher-than-average rate, which I was fine with because I needed the 4-wheel drive and size it offered. Instead, I was given a Hyundai minivan--completely unsuitable for my needs. I was told there were no other vehicles available and that the rate would remain the same. To make matters worse, I could have rented a minivan for an entire weekend for what I paid per day. Completely unacceptable. read more

Came into Asheville on a Saturday at 2pm and had to wait for 1.5 hours. Did not get the car I reserved, as they only had a few cars available. I let the people that needed an SUV have my car and I ended up with a Dodge Charger in lime green. While my daughter was thrilled with this change, it wasn't exactly my 1st choice. Made for a good story. I felt sorry for the agent as he was doing the best he could, but they were obviously short-staffed. The rest of the car rental lines were super short, but all cars were reserved for the day. Update: Over a month after my rental they charged me for a tank of gas which ended up being $130, and sent me a new receipt. I am going to try to dispute it, as the manager has not contacted me via email as I requested. I filled the car up before dropping it off and sent that gas charge line from my card as proof. This is just ridiculous customer service (or lack thereof). read more

Hertz does not appear to have gold service in this space (and as a President's Circle member, I had the unfamiliar experience of waiting in line at the retail counter). But when you actually get to the garage, there is signage for the President's Circle aisle. We did not have enough space so another person in my party had to rent a car from another provider, costing us double. This is the third time that Hertz has either not had the car I rented, and twice they have not had any cars at all at the time and date of my reservation. I will no longer use them. I had heavy luggage a cane and wearing braces on my legs. They brought the vehicle up to me from the lot.

We had a car booked at this Hertz for the morning after we arrived late in Asheville from Austin. We took an Uber to the location, which was about a 5 min Uber, or 40 mins walk from where we were staying. This is relevant because of what happened next. I booked via Priceline (which I've done several times before). When we get to Hertz, they have my reservation, and they run my Texas driver's license. The Hertz rep says my the machine can't my license, and so their policy is that they have to cancel my booking. What the actual F. I explain that this is a Texas government issued ID, that I used 24 hours earlier to fly out of TSA administrated international airport (Austin). The lady offers no solutions, simply that this is still policy and there's nothing she can do. We insist that the problem must be with their reader, and she says it doesn't matter. Policy. Again the rep isn't proposing a solution here. We're stranded in Asheville with no way of getting around, and we had a rental booking. We insist that she tries to scan my wife's Texas drivers license. She scans it, and she says the system declines that ID also. The Hertz rep then goes to "I've successfully scanned lots of IDs every day this week". Are you serious?! I try and call the Hertz hotline, and can't find a way through to a rep. The rep standing 20 feet from me is unwilling to help. Finally we demand that she call someone to solve this. She begrudgingly makes a call to someone who is described as a manager. On speakerphone, this gentleman explains that it's top down policy that if their machine can't scan a license they can't rent the car. That this is because of fraud / car theft. I explain again that our IDs were just used to travel on an airplane, but this falls on deaf ears. Hertz final position is that they will offer no further help, and our booking is cancelled. The happy ending in this story (that has absolutely nothing to do with Hertz) is that there was an Enterprise across the main road from this Hertz. We were fortunate that there was an available car and, what a shock, Enterprise's card scanner scanned my Texas license absolutely fine. We picked up a car smoothly within 10 minutes, and at a lower price than what I had actually booked. Clearly there was a technical error with Hertz system, but the fact that their approach wasn't to help us, and acknowledge that the fault here lay with them, is utterly astonishing. I will never make the mistake of booking with Hertz again, and I recommend you do the same. read more
