I picked up my car from Hertz when flying into Bellingham International Airport (BLI). Because it's such a small Airport, there is no Gold Service area or Member Board to check for your vehicle upon arrival. I only had to wait a minute or so to be waited on - showed my ID and was given my keys and paperwork and was on my way. It was a very short walk to where my car was parked outside. Upon return - I pulled into a Hertz marked parking spot and observed and followed the directions on the sign (there is no Hertz parking lot attendant at this location). I noted the space number, time I parked, mileage, and whether I fueled up the car, and locked it. Walked in, visited the Hertz counter, presented the keys to the clerk, and provided him with information I had recorded when I parked the car. He printed me a receipt and I was on my way! I rented a car for two weeks. I'm very happy with my experience with this Hertz location. If you do not have the time (and patience) to read this entire review, I suggest that you read the last three sections/paragraphs. Pick-Up: I booked on Kayak, but the actual reservation was done through Priceline. So, I had already paid in full when I went to pick up the car. Except for their usual attempt of selling an insurance coverage, they did not try to up sell anything. I had reserved a Toyota Corolla or similar, and I got a Nissan Sentra. It was new (2017) and very clean. Before Driving Off: Because Bellingham Airport is small, there's no attendant on the parking lot. You should carefully examine your car before driving off. They had missed some damages, including touchup paint they'd used to cover up a fairly big scratch. I took pictures of the entire car, went back to the counter, and asked the agent to add the additional damages I found. He told me I didn't have to, but I insisted, and he was fine. Before Drop-Off: You MUST fill up your car before returning it. Their rate is ridiculous: about $10 + tax per gallon. There's an Arco station and a 76 station between the highway exit and the airport (both at the intersection of Airport Dr. and Bennett Dr). Drop-Off: There's no attendant on the parking lot. You log your mileage and the fuel gauge, and return your key to the counter. The agent at the counter WOULD NOT come out to the lot to inspect the car. So, you MUST take pictures of the entire car, including the interior to protect yourself from potential charges for a damage that you did not even cause. A Word of Caution and Advice: At the drop off, the agent asked me if I would like to get my receipt sent to my email. Stupidly, I said yes. They never emailed me the receipt. Since I didn't get any additional charges later on, it worked out ok, but I should have gotten a hard copy receipt before leaving the counter. I think everyone should get a receipt showing a balance of $0 before leaving the counter. I've been to this location at least a dozen times... They're always friendly... Very easy check in and check out... I do wish they were open later in the day and on weekends. As usual with Hertz I'd highly recommend signing up for their online program for easy check out. I've read some of the negative reviews left at this location... But I really wonder if these people rent cars very often and know what to expect when renting a car. read more

We rented a car here and the low tire pressure light was on and the steering wheel was stiff af! We had to go to a tire shop down the road to put air in the tires and my arms were sore from driving. He had "upgraded " us to a sus vehicle since he said it needed to head down south anyways. read more

Having a rental car for 10 days is pretty sweet and finding it on Priceline for $20/day was even better. Priceline gave me Hertz for the price I had successfully bided on. Upon arrival into Bellingham international airport, BLI at 7:30am, I walked to the car rental counter, which was in the terminal and next to the baggage claim. I love regional airports like that. No need to try to find the rental car place or wait for the shuttle. With that said, I had to wait 1/2 hour for the counter to open and someone to show up. After all that, the service was quite quick. He asked what I was doing in Bellingham, small chit chat. I told him I was going into Canada for a few days and he didn't say anything after that. The entire rental car experience was positive and expedient. I would recommend Hertz for anyone who is in the area and need a rental car, check prices online and grab the best deal. This Hertz Rental Car location is conveniently situated at the Bellingham international airport. Like many small regional airports, the rental car lot is just across the street and just a few feet away from the terminal. Quite nice to just hop in the car and drive off to your next adventure, but not before checking the car for damage not reported. Hertz, like any other car rental company, accepts all major credit cards. I opted for the basic insurance package, which covered the car. I also got a free upgrade, since I purchased the car insurance, so that was pretty cool. The gas tank was at half full when I drove it out, so as long as I brought it back half full, I won't need to fill it up full and pay extra for someone else. The hertz agent was friendly and helpful. I'm glad that I rented from hertz and they allowed me to take it into Canada. You just need to let them know before you take the car keys. The car itself I gotten was a Toyota Corolla with Washington state plates. It was a nice car and drove smoothly, even on the winding roads of Vancouver and Whistler, Canada. The check back in was quite fast. Log in the mileage and fuel levels and return the key to the car rental counter. The great thing to know is that the terminal is small, so you can bee line it within 1 hour of departure and you should be fine. Hertz car rental is awesome, since they provide a great product and service. Maybe it just depends on the location, but if your travels come through Bellingham, best believe that this is the place to go. While I have rented trough Priceline, hertz is the way to go. If you go through hertz directly, the prices are higher, but you get what you pay for. Definitely recommended for your travels to Seattle or Vancouver, or wherever life takes you. Support local! Had exceptional service from this location. We were even upgraded. You do have to pay up front, and of course, make sure the tank is full before you return it. If there are any cosmetic problems with the vehicle, make sure you take a photo. There are no attendants in the lot. Other than that, we had a smooth, seamless experience. read more

Absolutely blown away by how horrible my experience was here. Read the contract, because the actual words from the employee will directly contradict that contract -- I was outright lied to my face about what I'd be paying and consequently paid them $500 instead of $220. I rented a car for a six-day trip to a conference via Priceline adding up to ~$220, and when I went to pick it up, we went over the charges I had put up, then I was talked into one additional bit of insurance for ~$6 a day, on top of a gas 'discount' for being AAA. I made it clear and asked multiple times that those last two would be the ONLY additional costs to what I've paid, and this is where I was lied to, because they said "Yes" quite specifically and multiple times. It's absolutely not OK for companies to prey on naivete. You cannot just tell me I need to get gas covered, and if I'm an AAA member I get X price instead of Y price, when I could just fill the tank up for a quarter of the price -- and, oh, did I forget to mention they asked me to fill up the tank to avoid extra charges even though there were no extra charges for not doing so? You can't just tell me I need to pick between three insurance options (e.g., the ~$6 daily charge) when I don't need to pick any of them. You have to tell me that these are optional. Offering employees benefits for weaseling more money out of customers promotes them to lie to customers and prey on ignorance, which is never OK for a business or anyone to do. When I returned from the conference, there was a charge for $270, which is exactly what I was told I'd be charged total for the trip -- only the $220 charge from Priceline didn't go away. When I called in, they said they didn't know what happened, please call the main customer service line. The main line has just told me the $270 I paid were all related to additional, optional insurance costs I didn't need to pay, but I signed a contract so there was nothing I could do. That additional insurance was something I was never spoken of about, they just told me that was the total vehicle rental cost: The small daily insurance charge and the gas were literally the only charges I was asked about. So now I'm down $270. I'm a graduate student who had this trip funded because I couldn't afford it. That $270 goes way out of the allocated school funds, and consequently comes out of my pitiful earnings for being a teaching assistant. Thanks, Hertz. Your employee lied directly to my face about what was in the contract, but I realize there's nothing I can do because I signed that paper with a smile. I'll never use your service again, and I hope others can avoid you based on my mistakes. Been a Hertz gold member for years and very much accustomed to their high level of customer responsiveness, especially in meeting needs of weary business travelers. In general I would rate Hertz well above their competition. However, in the case of this location it's very much the tail wagging the dog when it comes to making travel plans. If your flight gets in outside their restricted operating hours then forget it. You'll need to pitch a tent and wait until the next day. Customer focus at BLI? Big fat zero, it's only on their terms that matters! If they're going to operate a business at an international airport, they need to figure out a way of serving customers based on when their flights are arriving / departing and not on their own restrictive opening hours. read more

I'm going to pray that nobody on this universe rent from this Hertz in Bellingham Airport, as you will see I paid up front. But once I got there to rent my car the gentleman asked for my credit card for which I Supply, then he said I needed another credit card, and I asked him why I paid up front, I showed him the paperwork and I gave him my Wells Fargo credit card that I paid with. and he said it didn't accept it, it had declined. I stood in front of him, called my Wells Fargo Bank, put it on speaker, I told Wells Fargo what he said,and they said he never put it through. we have no record of him putting that through, and you have plenty of money in here. and then he said that he could take it but that his boss is telling him he needed to ask for my social security number, that's right; he said they asked him to get my Social Security Number. as if he was speaking to a Plum Fool, my Wells Fargo Banker online said " Ma'am do not give that to him " and I said; I'm not stupid. so he declined to rent me my car. So I went right next door to him and rented the car, there the lady was gracious enough saw that I had paid upfront, and just took all the information down, and gave me a car.Do not rent from Hertz in Bellingham Airport ever, and I am warning everyone PLEASE do not give your social security number out to them ever!!!!! read more

I totally want to like Hertz but this location has blown it for all locations and I know that these places are basically franchises and weekend employees typically don't give a crap... With that said, I have never been downgraded because they did not have the car I had reserved. Second, never been downgraded and asked to pay the same price... Yes, let it sink in... Finally, no Gold service here so you would think they would try to be prompt... No again. Counter opens at 8:00. Guy gets there at 8 and takes about 10 - 15 minutes to set up... Meanwhile, Enterprise next door processes four customers before my guy can even say good morning. Ouch... I guess that's why they are called Hertz. read more

Had a reservation for a car today after car accident last night. Drive all the way there after work (30 mins from home) and was told there's no cars available. So no courtesy to call and let us know. Let us find a ride 30 mins away and tell us on the spot. Now stuck with no car. Common sense would be to call your customer and give them a heads up so they can arrange something else. read more

I have rented from a lot of Hertz locations. This one is friendly but very pushy at selling the extras. I feel like the service could be much quicker if every customer didn't get the "Do you want to upgrade? Do you want our premium insurance? How about our middle grade insurance? How about our basic insurance?" Along with a detailed explanation and sales pitch on each option. Lay off on all the extra sales. I just want the car that I reserved with the options I already selected when I made my reservation. read more

I travel and rent a lot of cars but usually avoid Hertz due to their higher pricing. Had a good experience with them in Vancouver BC and reasonable pricing, so used them again in Bellingham WA a few days later. Smaller airport so okay, had to find my own car in the parking lot, and no one to check it out or in, couldn't find the mileage to report although agent at counter said he would take care of it. Returned the car with a full tank, picked it up with 3/4 of a tank but then was charged on credit card for ANOTHER full tank. Called Customer Service and they refused to credit me, said that I signed the contract... ever read an entire rental car agreement? I suggest you do with Hertz! They've lost my business for good. A mistake is acceptable, but refusing to rectify it is not the customer service I expect and will cut my losses before the mistake is more costly. read more

I just had a telephone conversation with a person at the Bellingham airport office about returning a rental car after having repair work on my car. The person I talked to was completely unhelpful and actually had no knowledge of what I was supposed to do. He treated me like the problem I was having about trying to return the car was not his concern and he was not expected to help in any way beyond just telling me that it was my problem to solve and not his. I do not recommend using the Bellingham Hertz company just based on the way this man treated me, the customer, on the phone. read more

Wish I could give them zero stars. I usually rent from Hertz so when the school I work for (Bellingham technical college) said they were going to rent a van from our field trip from them I had no worries. Van was reserved the day before, went to pick it up, waited in a long line, then when I made it to the counter was told the van they were going to bring up from Seattle had mechanical problems so they didn't. I asked if they called and they said they had no contact number. When I pointed out we are a public institution and you can easily find our number if they had forgotten to ask for it during time of reservation they had nothing to say. I was left scrambling for a van elsewhere as this was the evening before our trip. They also rented a car to a nice elderly man and just shoed him out the door pointing to a far corner where his rental car was. Very bad experience with Hertz. My insurance company got me a car through Hertz. Very nice when I was picked up on time until I checked my bank account. They pre charged me 600.00 without my consent for insurance on the rental vehicle that was supposed to be covered. The only way I found out was by checking my bank account. When I contacted them about the overcharge they said they could not take it off my account unless I returned the vehicle. Even if I cancelled the insurance coverage through them. You'd think renting a car in the Pacific NW they'd check the windshield wipers from time to time. Not! Rubber torn and just smeared water across windshield. Vehicle was not the cleanest on the inside either. Not what I was expecting from a company that claims to be the gold star in car rentals. read more
