Avoid. My company's system didn't give me the option of booking with Avis, and I'm now in about a one hour wait just to speak to an attendant at the front desk. This is my usual experience with Hertz. Usually they just give you the wrong information or the wrong car, this time they're not even prepared. I had a mixed experience the 2 times I interacted with the Hertz here. The first night I arrived, I received horrible service from the person at the counter. I was on a later flight and had a reservation for 11:30 pm to rent a car. It was 11:50 by the time I finished at the car rental counter but the representative was rushing me throughout the process, trying to sell me into getting car insurance, winter tires, etc. I let him know I had to consult others and discussed it with my friend. However, he seemed annoyed stating they needed to close soon. I felt undue pressure to make a decision and ultimately felt he was trying to sell me possibly due to the fact that I was a girl and didn't know too much about cars. As this is my first time using Hertz, it left a very sour taste in my mouth. Upon my car rental return, though, I received AMAZING service from the representative, Morz, who assisted me in the car return. I was greeted with a friendly smile, quick service, and a very personable and friendly interaction. He even gave clear directions on exactly where to go to return to the airport. I was quoted from expedia for $250 after tax and everything, then came to Hertz and the guy told me he has no car i need to upgrade which cost me another $100 so come out $350, i was ok with that, then i see the charge is a lot different, asked the guy, he said its the deposit, he only charge me $350, then i receive the bill with another $100 in tax, I am still ok with that, until I returned the car 10h early and got quoted $44, my wife even asked to confirm the amount, then receive the bill for $144, in short I just paid extra $200 without consent, I could have saved that money by leaving the airport and pump gas on my own if i knew it was $144, I just rented a car from ACE a day before and returned the car empty tank, they only charged me $40. I never do reviews but would like to share my experience at this location. We waited for over an hour for our rental, but the clerk who helped us granted us a free upgrade for waiting which we were pleased with. Upon return, the clerk who took the car back jumped at the opportunity to point out a flaw on the roof of the car which we were not aware of. He was not friendly and felt very rushed. We took a video of the sides of the car but didn't check the roof of the car. So if anything comes from this review, please make sure to check every part of the car from this location or any rental before being blamed for something you didn't do. read more

I would rate this place negative if I could. They will literally scam you into upgrading your car for a fee because they are "out of" the one you reserved. I was told the economy car is ONLY a Kia Rio, which is absolutely not the case with any other Hertz. We arrived at the car rental facility at 4:00pm on September 23. There was a long line but we waited patiently and befriended some other people in line. It seemed odd that some of the workers at the counter were not calling renters over from the line. And every so often someone who wasn't in line would appear and start talking to an agent. when we finally got to the counter, we went through the usual process of confirming the reservation and turning down insurance, etc. When we sh have been handed keys, we were told our car would not be ready "for at least another hour.". That information should have been given to everyone while we were waiting in line. They told us that there was a safety recall on our already rented vehicle 1/5 days into our trip and asked that we bring it back by 12pm the next day at the latest. When we arrive (90 min trip one-way from our hotel), another agent thanks us for willingly downgrading our vehicle. We explain we were told that there was a safety recall, but she states that there wasn't -- meaning that our original agent lied as he overbooked our vehicle. We decided to keep the vehicle and will be following up with the Better Business Bureau or their equivalent here in Canada. Do not rent from Hertz. We rented a car in Canada for 7 days. We were charged a $400 cleaning fee for a vehicle that was barely used. My husband called hertz in Canada and the man hung up on my husband two times. We called our credit card company and they refunded the money. 5 months later I get a bill in the mail for a miscellaneous charge that was more than the original charge. I called customer service numerous times and they keep submitting my complaint but nothing is getting resolved. How am I getting a charge for more than the original charge? Also there is no supervisor to handle or help with my problem. Do not rent from this company. They will charge you a miscellaneous fee after you leave and you can't fight it. Good experience until the end. Upon dropping off the car Tanvir stormed up to us, didnt greet us or tell us who he was, said that he thought he smelled smoke and would be charging us $150. We didn't smoke in the car or anywhere near the car. Then he started making some accusations about dog hair... me and the person I was with don't even own a dog let alone bring one in a rental car. When I asked to speak to Tanvir's boss he said he didn't know when he'd back and refused to give me any contact information. I made reservation through AAA, and was quoted one price. When picking the car up, Hertz was charging approximately $200 (CAN) more. The clerk could not explain why, to my satisfaction. She claimed there were additional surcharges. $200's worth of more surcharges? There were only two vehicles available -- an SUV and an EV. We asked if there were any economy vehicles arriving soon. She said that some would arrive in about 15 minutes. We said that we would wait. She confirmed that she would call us. After waiting for almost 30 minutes, and having received no call, we returned to the desk, and asked about the status of our vehicle. The clerk asked us to wait and that she would check. She came back with several fobs, and asked if an Elantra was acceptable. We said that was perfect. She printed an agreement for my signature, and I was surprised that it was for approximately $200 (Canadian) more than the reservation confirmation that I had originally received. When I questioned the amount, she said that it probably was because of additional fees. I showed her the copy of my confirmation. She responded that the confirmation probably did not include all the fees. After several minutes of discussions, I reluctantly signed the document. We had things to do. Perhaps, I should have penned in my objection on the contract. I also hoped that I would be able to resolve the issue with Hertz, once I returned home. At home, I contacted Hertz, and was told that the price charged was correct. Their manager claimed that the price quoted was for an economy car. Interestingly, what they originally had available was an SUV, not an economy car. The original clerk never mentioned anything about the size of the Elantra -- I personally own a 2001 Elantra, and it never occurred to me that the car offered was anything but an economy car. Concerning the EV, I don't consider it as competing in the same league as a gas-powered vehicle. Because of where we were driving, an EV was never a consideration. I am giving the company 2 stars because the car was in good working order, clean and comfortable. I give 0 stars for customer service. Next time I will go with Enterprise, with whom I have had very good luck. As a final remark, I do not recommend making reservations through AAA, based on this experience (and yes, I did contact them as well). The way the confirmation was written, I would never have guessed that there would be any other charges. With these charges, it was more expensive than many of the other options. It is going on 3 weeks, and the situation has not been satisfactorily resolved. read more

I'm a Hertz Gold member so I don't know if that impacted our service here or not but we had a 5 star experience from start to finish with Hertz at the Calgary airport. When we arrived I had a confirmed SUV rental but I inquired about the possibility of snow tires since we were driving out to the mountains in the snow. Jason was fantastic and looked diligently for snow tires in their fleet but alas they were already all checked out. However, he did set us up with a brand new Volvo SUV upgrade that hadn't even been driven yet, so the tires were the best condition we could have. He waived the upgrade fee for the SUV itself and only charged us as a snow tire upgrade (which was half of the upgrade to the Volvo itself) which was awesome. The car itself was clean and had a shiny new car smell! Drove beautifully and handled fantastically on some of the slicker roads in Banff national park. It also had a built in GPS which we were not charged with, plus heated seats and great milage. We only had to fill up once during our entire week long trip. When we returned the car the process was also smooth. They check you out at your vehicle and print your receipt for you right there. When I checked my bill I saw that one of the fees was incorrect and we were overcharged, so I mentioned it to Pam who took me immediately to the customer service desk where Jen and the aforementioned Jason did a great job helping us get the fee corrected and the difference refunded. I would 100% go through this Hertz again for a future visit to Banff. read more

Flew up for a Christmas trip and these guys were able to connect me with a car that had winter tires, we encountered ice fog and icy roads and so this was a true lifesaver. when I came back I returned the car four hours late and they could've nailed me for an extra day's charges but they didn't and I really appreciate that. good and decent people at this location, looking forward to renting from them again. read more

Hertz is a horrible company with horrible business practices. They upsell a "fuel prepay" and tell you that if you bring the tank back full this prepay option will be refunded to you, no questions asked. In actuality, they never pay any mind to this and you will have to go through your receipt with a comb to find that you were in fact overcharged $75 CAD for a service that was not rendered to you. This business practice is definitively theft and they are able to rely on the fact that people simply trust them to charge the final correct amount to continue to get away with it. Hertz was always my go to for rental cars, especially since the company I work for has a relationship with them. So I am a Hertz Gold member and rent with Hertz whenever I have a need for a rental car. However, I may be changing companies simply for the fact that I felt very unsafe in my rental this time because the "Service Airbag" light kept coming on every time I got into the car! I felt like the Airbag was going to deploy at any given moment every time I drove the car! When I returned the vehicle, the Hertz representative basically dismissed our concern and simply said that the vehicle was in need of service. In hindsight now after spending a week in Banff and driving about 1500 kilometers I feel ripped off that I got their upgrade of an allwheel drive as well as full coverage. Cost an extra 750 CAD for that upgrade. And after driving in the snow in winter, I regret getting these upgrades. People in Canada know how to drive in snow. I thought it was gonna be like Californians driving, all agressive and dumb. But they were courteous and took their time. No close calls at all. Unless you're going to go do some serious offroading, A 2 wheel drive (like a toyota camry) would suffice. Would've been happier to keep that $750 in my pocket... Car was nice though. Brand new 2019 cadillac xts with only 300 kilometers on it. Heated seats. Heated steering wheel. Navigation. XM radio. 3.6 liter engine. Great handling and pickup. Worst car rental company in Calgary, AB. My experience with them was terrible through out the winter I needed a car rental for extensive period of time. The cost for the rental for a 30 day period was over priced, no winter tires, and for minor damage I was charged extremely high repair costs. You looking to rent from a bunch of crooks or listen to how I had a wonderful experience reviews when really it was terrible experience, I suggest renting from Avis or another at least you get a car with decent winter tires and the management is straight up with you about all costs instead of hiding them or passing you off to someone else to get the details because they are too cowardly to tell you themselves. read more

The line was fairly short, but the whole system of clearing a reservation and getting the customer their keys is so poorly designed that it literally took them 30 minutes to go through 3 customers. The staff seems nice, and the cars are good. However, who ever designed the processing of customer check ins needs to seriously get some outside help. Airlines, hotels and everyone else find ways to clear customer check ins in literally seconds of time. One minute or less including verifying ID and whatnot. Hertz will be a customer service nightmare as long as they don't reconsider how to quickly and kindly process their checkins. read more

I paid an insurance with Hertz in case of need. I needed roadside assistance with the vehicle. It took over 3 hours to help me. I rented the vehicle in Calgary and needed help in Canmore. The center that takes calls for help is in the United States, the person who answered me could not help me properly because I was in Canada. I was out in the cold the whole time. This is unacceptable! If you are in Canada do not rent with Hertz and do not pay for insurance that is worthless. read more

These people are scammers. I had a reservation at a different city and paid them $100 for reservation fee. My flight was delayed so I called Hertz support to change my pickup location (nearest the arrival airport) and said they couldn't do that. Instead, I should cancel and make a new reservation. I confirmed with the agent if my reservation will be refunded and she said yes. At this point, I still haven't received the refund and decided to call support again. Now they're saying that they can't refund the reservation fee and that's what they tell their customers. Totally a scam of a company. Beware! Extremely disappointed! I had booked a Tesla a month before our rental date for my husband as a Christmas present. Hertz was aware of this and very accommodating saying they would even give us an upgrade to a Tesla Y for him as it is a present. I thought this was very kind. HOWEVER, when we arrived we were given a Tesla 3 (which is fine...not a problem) but it only had 48% charge. It had only 48% battery on it and we were planning to go to Banff straight away. We were told we could get there and have 8% battery remaining. I am definitely not taking that chance in the winter. If there is an accident or a traffic hold up then we are stuck on the highway in the winter in freezing conditions - this is an extreme safety issue they put us in. (Rental companies rent vehicles with a full tank of petrol...of course they should rent a vehicle with a full charge) They knew a month in advance of this booking....we did not just walk off the street and say we needed a vehicle! The car was extremely dirty inside and out - it was not washed at all from the last customer. Filthy. Plus, I am very cautious of car companies and check cars thoroughly before I leave the lot. The gentleman who gave us the keys was very annoyed I was taking photos and checking it. He kept telling me that he already did that and that is would be emailed all the photos. He was very rude with me checking the damage myself. It's a good thing I did check it myself because the email with all the photos did not arrive. I ran into some health issues and was hospitalized twice during the time I had rented a car for what should have been only a week.. turned into months due to my hospitalization. Hertz did not offer any support but instead was harassing me to return the car while I was in hospital. finally I am well and the car has been returned.... With a $12000 bill for a car I hardly even drove (reflected in the mileage).... i was on the Sunshine Coast at the time so it wasn't the easiest thing to do to return the car... instead of harassing me to return the car while I was in hospital they very well could have sent someone to come and pick it up.... Be very careful when you rent from these guys. I rented via Expedia for a 24 hour rental at Calgary Airport; (picked by 7:34 am on July 23rd and returned at 7:06 am the following day). Luckily, I had proof of my return via cell phone image, as Hertz advised that I did not return the car until after 8 am, and added another days full rental to my bill! Waited over 45 minutes to pick up a car at the airport location (there were only 3 people ahead of us). Booked the car through Hotwire. When we returned the car, no receipt was given at the airport. I was then charged an additional $74 CAD and have no idea what this is for. When I call Hertz, I go through the prompts to get a receipt and ask about the charges, and then the line tells me they are having issues and cannot complete my request. The line hangs up. No option to speak to a customer service rep, no ability to get a summary of the charges (through Hotwire, the rental was 100% paid for up front). read more

Hertz helped us, treated us with good respect and the manager and the staff at Hertz were extremely understanding to provide us with a car rental to ensure that it did not put a damper on our personal vacation. They provided us with an SUV and made all kinds of accommodations to ensure that we could have a car and move around to the national parks despite the shortage of Fleet vehicles.
