Never do business at this Hertz. -When arriving for my reservation the 1st thing that was said is "I thought we moved your reservation to another location", but it wasn't. -Next they said they don't have a car for me & that their manager called me to let them know, but they hadn't. -Got the employee's name, the manager's biz card, & told them I was stepping outside to call customer support while waiting for a car. Not a minute late, they suddenly had a car for me that they were "holding" it aside for an account. Not "reserved", "holding" basically just in case. -I reserved a Mid-Size SUV, they gave me a Compact SUV (Chevy Trax). When I asked if that was at or above the class I reserved, they said it was a free upgrade & quoted $200 more total if they charged me the correct price for the car they gave me. -My reservation was for 6-days at $186, they changed it to $212 on the contract for my "free upgrade" without saying anything. Especially ironic since they gave me a lower class car that should have led to them lowering the price of my rental. -When returning the car, a customer in front of me was picking up his reservation & a different employee told them, "I thought we moved your reservation to another location". Clearly a shared & dishonest practice among staff when not able to fulfill reservations. -It was really busy so that same employee announced "Anyone who's returning can just drop the keys w/ me & you'll get an emailed receipt", so I did that. Unfortunately they didn't close my rental out til 3 day later so I was over charged. Plus they added a late fee. -After 2 hrs of hold time & conversation with their support team, they finally agreed to refund me the overages & lower the price of the rental since I was actually downgraded from my reservation, not given a free upgrade. How can one rental experience include this much dishonesty & mistakes made by staff? Cause it's this location's brand. It's what they do, it's their operational standard & culture. read more

I had a great experience at Hertz Costa Mesa. Amber Rose, Natalie, and Jesse were all incredible, helpful, and genuinely accommodating throughout the entire process. They worked hard, moved quickly, and made everything easy on me from start to finish. What really stood out was how much they cared about making sure I had a good experience. Horrible customer service. I rented a vehicle from Hertz using my triple A discount, rented it online. To make sure the car I rented was at the hertz location I called Crystal at the Costa Mesa location on Harbor. Crystal assured me the truck was at the property and was ready to go. Pick up time was 10:15 I arrived at 10:20... no truck on site. She said oh they are bringing it from airport.. what?? Crystal lied. After 35 minutes of waiting for the truck, nothing came. She said well maybe you can go to the airport and pick up the truck.. or go to Huntington and they might have it. MAYBE, MIGHt? Wow what a terrible experience. My car has been in the shop. I called to extend my rental for a day because my car wasn't ready. When I called the lady who I was speaking with on (9/10 in the morning) said that it was fine and asked what time I might be dropping the car off. I told her by 9am. She said that was fine. I retuned my car today by 8:50ish. Apparently my rental started at 8:21 and their 29 minute grace period, which is in the fine print of the brochure but never verbally mentioned, meant I was late. None of this was mentioned over the phone when I called to extend. None warning about an extra charge if it wasn't back by a certain time. So I was charged $27 extra for a few minutes. And all because the staff member probably just took her time imputing my information. Neither staff member was willing to be flexible this morning. This was the worst car rental experience I have ever experienced. My brand new car with less then 10K miles on it had a full system failure and I needed a rental car. I walked in and explained that I needed a 7 seater (same as my car) because I drive kids around for my job and was met with zero empathy, zero customer service and lack of care or helpfulness. I was told it wouldn't be covered and I asked them to call the dealership and the employee lifted their shoulders and said it won't work. One of the lower price tag hertz location in town, cars are clean. My first rental was 67k miles altima, mostly fine but backing up lead to emergency brake activation so i had to turn that off. Second rental i got 8k trax which is clean. Nothing much to complain about and both time employee was helpful and nice. read more

I will tell you Amber Rose is the epitome of the Hertz employee & manager. From when I first walked in, she greeted me with a big welcoming smile, and even though there was a line of people, I felt that she was making sure to attend to everybody in a professional and timely manner while she was overseeing several other employees. When I finally got to work with her, she really knows what she's doing. She's an expert on the system as well as highly experienced on how to guide you to get the best from your rental. The corporate office definitely should take note! She should be training future managers, even though this is not the closest location to me. Made reservations for a standard sedan weeks in advance and received multiple text confirmations. When I showed up on time to rent, the staff was non-welcoming. They said they ran out of vehicles. Basically, too bad, this was a busy time for them. Great service, prompt and friendly staff. The manager gave me an upgraded SUV, had a full tank of gas plus he took it through the car wash. I wanted to give a 4.5 star rating only because the inside of the car could've been cleaner. Seats were stained in spots and there was some trash left in it from previous renter. A thorough cleaning and inspection might have detected the empty plastic cup under the drivers seat. But I really enjoyed driving the car. Thank you hertz. read more

My experience here was so disappointing. After reserving a 7 seater car and paying for it online - we came to this location to pick our car up. Upon arrival, I asked to see the car first bc we had a pregnant person with us so i wanted to make sure it would be comfy. The guy there said sure no problem and proceeded to take me to a GMC Terrain. I was so confused as I was looking at the car and had to ask where the third row seating was because surely this ride looked small as heck for a 7 seater. The guy now looks confused (how? My reservation was for a big suv). He then proceeds to apologize and ask me if I would like to just take it or do I want him to look for a 7 seater? At this point I'm sweating because I'm suppose to meet up with my fam to head out on our road trip. Long story short - he tells me to try my chances at John Wayne airport. I ask him if they would honor my rate that I paid and he said yes. Of course when we get to John Wayne, the 7 seater costs an additional $300! Horrible business practice, what is the point of reserving a car at a specific time and paying in full just to arrive and there's nothing there for you? Very unhappy with their business. First off they only have electric vehicles . At least that was what I was told . This was the worst experience I have ever had . The agent told me , oh yeah. It only takes 25 minutes for a full charge. Well that doesn't exist . I even told him we were traveling to Arizona. The charger I found there, was at a casino. It sat in the charger for 12 HOURS ! And didn't get a full charge. We were stranded . Most hotels that offer chargers, are for guest only. DO NOT RENT A EV FOR TRAVEL OUTSIDE OF A MAJOR CITY ! And I asked about the accident coverage , that said $10 a day on my email. He told me depends on the car. Then he proceeded to charge me $30 a day. I have insurance that would have covered . Bought a car here a month ago. Already had to have the dual clutch and double clutch transmission completely replaced along with the snap rings. My car failed a judder test and was shaking prior to this. They clearly do no maintenance to the cars that sit on that lot. To have something major like my transmission fail in a 2018 car after just 30 days of having it is a joke. The staff are nice but others should be cautious when purchasing a vehicle here. I recently rented a 2022 Ford Escape from this location and am quite dissappointed at sales practices that I would say are at the very least, misleading but in reality , are very deceptive and reeking of a bait and switch scheme. I rented this car and was convinced by staff to agree to the fuel purchase option, FPO. I was assured that the price was lower than existing pump price and that I would ony be charged for the gas I used. I drove a total of 65 local miles. When I got the final bill, I noticed the FPO charge was over $30 to drive 65 miles in a small Ford SUV, whose own website states this car gets up to 28 MPG in the city. And with gas hovering around $6.00 per gallon, this charge should have been at most $18.00. And when I tried exlaining this to staff, seems like no one can adequately explain this discrepancy. So, rather than dicker over this deception, I chose to write it off as "never again." Word to the wise: NEVER agree to the fuel purchase option and ask all the questions you might have when signing these agreements. Very shady. read more

When I rented the car the gas tank was half full I brought this to the inspectors attention and he took a picture of the pre inspection report before I took the car and told me to bring the car back with half a tank of gas. When I came on time to return the car it was just a Tish above half a tank they told me I owed them 50 dollars for the half a tank of gas and I made told them know I rented it that way. They didn't believe me and I showed them the paper and they would not accept it. They sent me to collection for the $50 for the half a tank of gas they say I owed I sent the paperwork from Hertz to The Collector and unfortunately he won't accept it the only way I can prove that I'm telling the truth is to actually go to Pennsylvania where the collection office is and hand them the papers. I live in Costa Mesa California that's never going to happen. I normally never write a bad review I like to find something positive about Everywhere I Go. But I feel I owe it to the public to know about Hertz Rent-a-Car so you don't use them. I found Fox rentals to be quite honest and actually a little cheaper. read more

We rented an EV car at the Costa Mesa location on Harbor for a week and on the second day it wouldn't charge and we tried at more than one location. We called the road side and they said they couldn't help and that we had to take it to another charging station which we couldn't because we had to go to work. We both took Uber. Then the next day we brought it and they exchanged but still charged for the day we couldn't use it. Terrible, rude customer service! Do Not recommend. read more
