Very disappointing experience with Hertz Delray Beach. I reserved a Tesla Model 3 through the Uber app because it showed one was available. When I arrived, there were no Teslas. Jasmine offered me a Polestar as a temporary solution until a Tesla became available. While we were inspecting the Polestar, a red Tesla actually arrived. I made it clear that I wanted that Tesla because I have a Tesla charger at home, and she said she would contact me as soon as it was ready. I emailed her my phone number when I got home so there would be no excuse for not reaching me. Instead, I later got an email saying the Tesla had already been given away and that I would be stuck with the Polestar until the following week. That mattered because the Polestar would cost me about $45 every time I needed to fully charge it at a public station. Since I rented through Uber, those extra charging costs on top of the rental made the deal nearly impossible to justify financially. Hertz did absolutely nothing to make this right. Even worse, the local branch does not answer the phone, so everything had to be documented through email. Do not advertise Teslas as available if you cannot provide them, and do not promise customers a swap if you have no intention of following through. read more

Hertz is AWFUL. They almost killed me. I rented a car the weekend of 4th of July. It was just bad timing for me to need a rental as I had doctors appointments and a surgery that I specifically came to town and rented the car for. They were sold out of everything except for electric vehicles so I had to go with that. All other companies were sold out. Monday morning, right after my first doctors appointment, I am driving on the highway on the way to my surgery appointment and the car just starts decelerating!! Picture this- I'm on I95 in South Florida where people are flying by 100mph+ and the car is STOPPING itself. The panel just had a big red, dead battery sign, but the battery life was showing at 80 something percent. I didn't know what was going on. The car literally just stopped working and died in the middle lane on the highway. Scariest effing thing ever. It came back on for a minute and I couldn't go more than like 10 mph, but I got it off of the highway at least. Barely though. Now I'm on a remote exit where there's nothing around and people still whizzing by. It was not safe for me to be in the car. So I get out of the car and I'm standing on the side of the road. They told me from whatever Diagnostics they could do remotely that it was not the battery as in the "gas" to the vehicle, but the actual 12 volt battery that was dead. -There was no reason for it. It made no sense. They said they would send roadside assistance out. Now here is another thing that makes no sense- roadside assistance can replace a battery if needed. But NO hertz wanted to send them out just to jump the battery so that I could take it MYSELF to a nearby store with a voucher and wait there while the battery got changed. Absolutely made no sense, but I had no other option at that time, standing on the side of the road in 100° boiling hot. Roadside assistance comes about an hour later and says I don't know what they're talking about. There's nothing wrong with this battery. You need a new alternator. And that is something that needs a tow truck for. I now have to cancel my surgery. I call Hertz back and tell them about how the roadside assistance left and we need a new company with a tow truck. I waited and waited. At this point I was over two hours in the blistering heat. There's no shade around. I can't sit in the car because it's unsafe, I'm worried about getting hit. There's also no AC because the battery's dead. It's so hot outside that I am not only burnt to a crisp already but my cell phone has overheated and I can't even text or make phone calls without problem. I called hertz back and said I need to get back to the house I'm staying at for my own safety and while I can still make a phone call to get somebody to pick me up. They said that was fine. They didn't need me there for the tow truck to get there. The entire reason for me coming to Florida was ruined. I had to cancel a surgery that I could not get for another month. And I was never even contacted to see if I was OK or to refund me or anything. That evening, I called back and had to ask THEM for my refund. They said there's a process I have to go through where they would put in a case submission for review and I would hear back within two weeks on if they were giving me a refund or not. I can't even express how I felt. Your car almost killed me. You made me sit on the side of the road in very harsh conditions for over two hours. I was made to cancel an important surgery and wasted days of my life....and you're not even sure if I'm gonna get a refund? I went back-and-forth with them over the next three weeks having to open up a couple disputes before they finally gave me my money back. I have still never been told what happened or asked if I was OK. No apology, no credit offer for almost killing me, they couldn't even cancel and refund me on their own!! I don't even think a refund makes me whole in this situation!!! Awful awful company to use. Just don't do it. read more

My reservation was for 12, they called and said it had to be switched to 12:30. I get there at 12:30 and the car isn't there yet. The cars driver side window button comes off. We return the car and I didn't get an email confirming my return. A week later someone calls me asking if I returned the car. I thought that was hilarious, I never experienced that before. There's a reason this place had like 1.5 stars on Apple Maps. I usually use enterprise but they were sold out of the car we wanted. read more

Hertz has a new scam where they open a toll processing company and charge you $10 a day convenience fee for it if you have to use a .30 cent toll daily for travel. They even try to act like the company has nothing to do with them, but have the same logo theme. Don't bother trying to call customer service unless you're trying to make a reservation. We had a good experience renting from this location! The car we rented was unavailable so they honored our pricing and upgraded us! Car was clean, staff was friendly and we had no issues upon return. Upon our second time renting a couple weeks later location was under staffed, long wait for pick up, received a dirty car and now upon my return home have been charged almost $100 in fees for items that were not my issue or included in rental. read more

Zero stars would be to many for this place! I reserved a mid size suv and they tried to give me a small suv. Instead of admitting the mistake they tried to tell me this was a mid size suv. When I did not agree, the agent asked if I was some auto expert and how would I know the difference between an small or mid size suv. I had rented a car from Hertz on Jan 9,2022 for my 2 week stay in Delray Beach. On Jan 11th the passenger side wiper was not functioning properly. I found a local Hertz at SE 5th Ave in Delray and walked in. The Branch Manager Harvey Bello met me at the door and assessed the situation. He then offered me a replacement rental car and after a short time I had new rental paper work in hand and was on the road again, problem solved. Needless to say I was very impressed. We rented a full size car, but when we got there they only had a mid size SUV. For some that may be better, but not in our case and let me tell you why. So we were traveling for my birthday to Tampa and we each had luggage that obviously needed to be in a trunk space, but they gave us a huge truck with no cover for the hood so we each had to put our luggage in garbage trash bags half way through our road trip because it started pouring raining. The car was pretty small inside. They tried to convince us that our AAA insurance wasn't good when it covered a lot more than theirs and saved us money. Thank goodness for the other guy who was being honest and telling us to keep ours. read more

I recently used this location with my mother who is having a large surgery. She rented a vehicle that was far too large to get in and out of and we really needed to swap to a different vehicle. While we did have to call regularly to check the stock of vehicles on hand, as they change hourly, we were able to get the car we needed in exchange for the previous vehicle. Cody was actually very accommodating and after having spoken to a few folks at this location, Cody and Stephen were very helpful. No issues, pretty easy transaction and was thankful beyond measure for the more suitable vehicle. read more

Everyone seemed very nice and helpful until the end. We were renting a car thru insurance as our car was stolen and had an apparent miscommunication with insurance thru Hertz. We were asked which plan we would like to purchase and weren't given the option of not taking their insurance. This is especially prudent because as a part of our auto insurance we pay for rental insurance monthly. We feel extremely slighted and taken advantage of especially bc it ended up costing us over $800, it was like being violated all over again. read more

This location is terrible. We rented a truck for temporary use while our new truck was being sent to us from being repaired. We've done business in this capacity multiple times at other rental agencies. The other place didn't have a box truck available so we went to this group. Really sketchy office with a rude guy behind the counter. Selling greyhound tickets, yelling in a thick Brooklyn accent and it smelled like a sewer inside. Signed the rental agreement and went to inspect. Guy plays bumper cars trying to get truck out of undersized lot. After 3 weeks we return no problems. We get a random bill months later saying we owe for damage! Even after we returned and have paperwork saying "No Damage upon return" they try to randomly bill us $1500! Talked to office they all were rude. I show the paperwork and then they don't call me back. Then get a call out of nowhere from hertz billing saying we have an outstanding invoice!!! We'll never use hertz again and we rent long term at multiple locations throughout the state! Lost a great customer due to lying and incompetence. Buyer beware!! read more

Things I've not been offered with other agencies, such as a 20 minute ride back to where my car was being repaired, such as I had to extend and they kept me in the same car - tried that in California a few weeks ago and they wanted $50 for the first 3 days, but $80 for one more day.
