I was on a trip to visit family and I forgot my pouch with cash inside and it is worth $500 exact with 1 and 5 bills. Totally forgot that I had put under the seat and returned the car June 27,2026 in the morning. Called the hertz in dsm airport many times no answer. Finally made a lost and found report. Called the next day, same. And calling everyday still no answer. According to the customer service they expedited my claim and said that the car liscense plate A0DRDTA WAS STILL IN PROPERTY on june 29,2026, and someone a live person will reach out. Still no one reached out on property. I feel it's a shame that when a rental is still in property and the email or something like this is sent internally to the station property, I get no answers. Just hoping a Good Samaritan at a workplace environment will turn in an item with atleast $500_/+. read more

Hertz Rent A Car - Car Rental Near Me - Des Moines, Iowa

I rented a car from Hertz through Hotwire for $35/day. I returned the car full and gassed up at the local Casey's near the airport prior to returning the vehicle. After returning the vehicle, to my surprise, I was charged $113.49 as a refill. I immediately called the manager and the manager said that I need to supply them with a photo of the car's tank full prior to returning the vehicle or a receipt from the gas station. I have all necessary documents, but the point is that this is an unnecessary hassle!! I've never been charged nor been questioned when obviously I returned the car full. Hertz is a trash company for trying to pull this stunt on their customers. Be very wary of Hertz. They're scheming folks out of their hard earned money at this location. To avoid being scammed by them, always take a picture of the gas tank prior to returning their vehicles . Also always keep the receipt so that you don't have to experience the unprofessionalism and crooked behavior from these folks! read more

When I'm on personal travel, I consider rental cars to be a commodity. A car is a car regardless of whether it's Hertz or Alamo, and the cheapest price wins. There are a few details that I do care about such as car pick-up being an easy walk or shuttle away and not being pushed to by insurance or extras that I don't want or need. During a recent trip to Iowa, Hertz won the price derby via a deal through my car insurance company (USAA). Front desk staff were friendly and efficient (even through the COVID-related Plexiglas) during pick-up and drop off, and the white Nissan compact car was very clean and ran well with me and family in the car. read more

Came to Des Moines on a business trip and our company uses Hertz. I was not a big fan of this rental experience for the following reasons: *The customer service representative that was there acted like she would rather be somewhere else. Of course not the most thrilling job, but there was no welcome, no friendliness, and she spoke so softly it was hard to understand her. *The customer service representative pointed that the car would be outside. Normally when I have gone through this process, you go outside and are greeted by another rep, well here, no reps outside. I guess I get that being a small airport, but it would have been nice to find the car I was given *The car smelled of smoke. I did not report or feel like going back in to exchange for a another car, but it was not pleasant The only positive - drop off, plenty of people around to greet you when you came back to return the car and were helpful. Hertz Des Moines is the worst rental experience i have had. this is why. i made a reservation months in advance of my business trip. airlines had lots of delays causing almost all airlines to be late. i landed at 1:00 am when i was supposed to land at 4:00. when i get to the counter - nothing/ nobody. i check email and find a copy of my lease agreement telling me i started my rental at 4:52 pm. (there closing time is 5;00). no noted on rental agreement how to get keys. talked to all the other car agencies. nothing no body knows anything. at least enterprise , avis, budget and alamo stayed late to take care of their customers. i had to uber to my destination at great expense then find another rental. oh, customer service shuts down at 6:00 pm as well and the phone tree just says hertz.com for everything. horrible. just horrible... read more

They have me on a no rent list as I refused to pay a phony charge. This was made known only after I prepaid. The rental was then changed to my wife. Otherwise they would have had my money and no car. The tank was only 3/4 full. read more

I came, I saw, I rented. It's Hertz, it's the midwest, it's a weekend of no great importance except to me and MLB so of course they have a car. Full size sedan, good for tooling around the countryside all day or a night on the town with friends. Friendly efficient check in by baggage claim and the cars are just across the street under the parking deck minimizing exposure to the elements. Yea for roofs! Last time here the Chrysler 300 I got was making weird sounds so they put me in a jag for the weekend at the same rate. It was kind of a treat but in practice a larger sedan would have worked better. read more

AWFUL customer services from day 1. I work in the service industry and this is completely unacceptable. Made a pre-booked reservation 24 hours in advance with pre pay. Landed in MSP just 30min after pick up time. Arrived to Hertz to an unfriendly associate and was advised we had picked our rental car up yesterday. We had just landed so this was not possible. Hertz had allowed another customer to use our reservation name, home address, and credit card with a different birthday placed in the customer information. It took an hour to get this straightened out, get us our reserved vehicle and on our way. After dropping the vehicle off the next day, just two hours past delivery (they had already wasted an hour of our time) they tacked on an additional $80 late return, along with several other misc fees that bumped our final cost from $130, as listed on the website, to $332. I called the corporate phone line customer service about this erroneous charge and was told, sorry, the charge is correct. Sorry you are not happy with your service, there is nothing we can do. I hope I can avoid Hertz at all cost in the future. I have never had this kind of inconvenience or unprofessional behavior with Enterprise. read more

Received rental with two empty bottles and beef jerky on the floor and under the seat and the car was filthy on the inside. barely had any fuel and where I normally rent the vehicle is full and you return it full. I tried calling them numerous times and they did not pick up the phone. They had said the car needed to be returned at 100% full so I did that, but refused to do anything about any of my other concerns. So they got $60 in free gas and I got to ride around with trash. read more

I rented a car but then cancelled the reservation receiving a confirmation that it was indeed canceled. I then rented through my credit card company using points. I was charged for the rental that was canceled and even though I disputed the charge and it was found in my favor The outcome was that I had to get my points refunded and pay for the rental that was canceled. I don't think this mix up was my fault but I am paying for their mistake. Hertz was rude, did not listen to me, told me there was nothing I could do. Long story short...DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ....... I am quite happy to report a very positive experience with the Hertz Rental in the Des Moines Airport. Before arriving I received a text (standard for Hertz) alerting me to my assigned car. At this location you have to stop by the counter even if you are Gold Level but it's quick and easy. In a matter of a minute or so you have your keys and are on your way. There's no bus or tram to catch. Just a few feet outside and your car is awaiting... clean, fueled, and ready to go. The return process is equally as efficient. Absolutely no complaints here. It's Hertz. You pay a little bit more and receive a little higher level of service. Hopefully. I'll admit to being a bit of an Enterprise guy, but the DSM Hertz location is great. Didn't appreciate the lack of a snow scraper this past rental, but I've never had cigarette residue, less than full fuel tanks or windows in need of cleaning (my pet peeves). They also book online through Hotwire, which is how I've received some great rental deals here. read more

Delivered them their car with full tank filled to the brims, and still got a receipt stating it was 5/8th full, charging me for the mystical refilling $42.71 !!!! And when I called to confront them, they didn't fix the situation, instead saying I have to have a receipt and write to some "verify" email, and overall spend all that extra time proving the point, despite the very picture of the dashboard! Who is going to pay me for all that lost time? Wasn't the convenience and speedy service the very selling point of this brand? This was my business meeting for five days over there, the experience at Hertz was really fantastic. Staffs were really smart and processed my request pretty fast , gave me the option If I want to change my car. Car was pretty nice and cleaned , also the Gold reward membership allowed me to feel like royal. The car pick up was close so hassle with your bag and other stuff. read more

This was my first renting a car in Maui and I'm pretty impressed in our smoothly everything went. Don't let the other reviews fool you, picking up and returning the rental was fast and easy - no line at all. Plus it was very cheap! What I would recommend is get an early flight into Maui Hertz to beat the line. My friend and I flew in at 6:45am and took the shuttle bus to Hertz, got our car and was out of there by the time it was 7:15am! The only problem with the car (Ford Fiesta) was that it could barely make it up to Haleakala, we had to let the engine cool down for 10 minutes half way up and made it up to the top, which wasn't too bad. But other than that, our 4 day stay was wonderful and I would rent through Hertz again. read more

This Hertz location at the DSM Des Moines, Iowa, airport has been consistently good in my experience with most of my rentals a positive experience ((over 30 in the last 2 years). When you travel as much as I do, you will run into 1 or 2 problems, but the staff does try to help if and when that happens. I've had consistent, good rentals here and I recommend Hertz at this location versus the other car rental companies. read more
