It wasn't the worst car. It was scratched all over, dirty exterior, but the inside wasn't too bad and no bad smells. The keyfob battery was dying so getting in and out of the car was hit and miss. This car hadn't seen any maintenance in a long time. At least wash the windshield. Manager was friendly but had more than one person could handle so lots of waiting around. I had picked up a rental vehicle at this location, not properly detailed or cleaned and with a strong odor of marijuana smoke, little did I know that was just the beginning! Upon return, the person who claimed to be the "manager" of this Hertz location in East Providence, giving her name as Christina showed a complete disregard for treating a customer as a customer. She was belligerent, argumentative, and rude. Refused to provide a clear indication for overcharging for the vehicle upon return, she had placed a charge for an additional $50.00 for "outside washing". Once aware of the overcharging for the rental I requested I be allowed to document the cleanliness of the vehicle upon return. The agent walked outside with me but then refused to allow me to photograph the vehicle and when I brought out my phone she drove de vehicle behind the fenced area so that I could not photograph the vehicle almost injured me with her abrupt manner! I urge Hertz and/or the owners of this location to review video footage of this employee at work. read more

Hertz gave me a dirty KIA Sportafe with NO GAS, not one drop. The vehicle has no HEADLIGHTS , NO HIGHBEAMS, No Right Rear Brake Light (pulled over by Newport Police), No right rear tag light, the windshield wipers FREEZE and do not park correctly . The vehicle is infested with spiders and bees, and chugs at idle at red lights with RPM's dropping to near zero. read more

We reserved a car for a Washington DC trip from Providence at Hertz in EP and was upgraded to an SUV after the rear-view mirror in the car was broken. The staff was accommodating, and our trip was a success. We came back a day early and the rental only charged us for the days used. We purchased the toll service, which I would recommend if traveling to DC. read more

Hi, The only reason this review isn't a negative number is because it didn't give me that option. My family and I were travelling to the UK from the US this past month. We rented a Volvo SUV that was to be picked up at Heathrow and returned to Holyhead, Wales. We were flying out of Dublin. The reason we went with Hertz was because they gave us the option to pick up in England and return in Wales at the Ferry terminal We arrived to pick up the car at Heathrow only to be told that the Hertz Rental Location in Holyhead was closed permanently. They said it would need to be returned back to Heathrow. I said that wasn't an option as we were flying out of Dublin. The man who was dealing with us basically yelled to another guy who said, " I think there is a drop box in a hotel in Holyhead". They finally agreed to let us take the car and that they would contact us in the next few days to tell us exactly where to leave the car. However, when we presented our American Express, they also we needed to get the additional insurance because we were renting a "high price" car. No where, in the rental agreement, was that stated. Not having much choice, we added the insurance that costs almost $400. We ended up with a Lexus SUV which was the only part of this rental that was good. The day before were suppose to leave the car and get on the ferry, we still hadn't heard from them. We then spent 3 hours trying to get someone to help. All the 800 numbers either said they were not available or sent us to customer service people who didn't know what to do. Many said they couldn't help because it was an oversees rental. There were 4 of us all trying to contact anyone who could assist. We posted on local sites, used the on site bot, and then many, many, many phone calls later, a woman from England said the best way to get help was to email the Heathrow branch. She said they were too busy to answer phones. She was right. We did get an email about an hour later telling us we could bring it to the Port terminal and that there were marked spaces. Frankly, I didn't believe them. I was already so stressed. My husband basically said he would drive it into the Irish Sea as they made us pay for the insurance anyway. The day we were returning the car, we received a call from some manager who assured us there was a dropbox at the ferry terminal and 5 marked spaces. He was correct! I was just so annoyed and upset that we spend 3 hours on our vacation dealing with this and stressing when it was so simple. I will never use Hertz again!!!!! read more

There's no way to call them directly, I was using them through insurance while my car was in the shop. I was charged an absurd amount and they refused to bill my insurance and they claimed it's due to me having the car too long... If I could give them 0 stars I would. I was apart of the rental program through Uber and it was nothing but hell dealing with Hertz. Horrible communication from manger and the rest of the employees. They weren't helpful at all and they could care less about helping their customers. The manger is shady and could have informed me that I needed to speak with the billing department instead of taking the keys from me when I told them I was making a payment. There were multiple issues I had and they could careless and would laugh about it with their employees. DO NOT WASTE your time renting from here. read more

Booked a same day reservation online with my credit card. Went to pick up rental and manager said they don't accept that credit card. Would not rent to me even though I booked it online with that credit card. Dude was a legit dick. No empathy, no problem solving, just NO. Over charged me by 70$ then when I called this site I was told they'd initiate a refund. 4 weeks later I still don't see a refund. They connect me to billing who says no note of a refund was ever initiated. I then call the site back again who says that they cannot help me or reach out to billing because it's been over a week. If I could give 0 starts I would. I ordered on priceline, and took the collision coverage. When I picked up my car I was told I was paid for and all set. We discussed the coverage I'd chosen and I signed my paper work and I was on my way. Returned my car with no issues and was done. Fast forward 2 weeks when I get my Credit Card statement and I see a second charge form Hertz for nearly the price of my rental. Apparently when I picked up my car and we were discussing the coverage option I'd chosen, we were discussing THEIR coverage, not the priceline coverage. So when I signed off on my paperwork I was signing off on their additional charge. I called customer service and they offered me a 50% refund on the coverage. I took it but only after asking to speak to the next highest rep. and being told that I they weren't doing anything more than 50%. This is absurd. They talk like they're doing you a favor at 50% refund since it's valid contract, when It was not clear at the counter that the agent and I were talking about 2 very different things. read more

I have rented mini vans from this location for work purposes 3 times now, and find the staff to be friendly, professional and a real pleasure to work with. They have always had the exact car I needed and reserved ready, and always help me get the seats folded down. The prices here are so much lower then at PVD airport and I love that there is free parking for my car. A+ service! read more

I live in RI and use this Hertz location every time I have to rent a car because the customer service here is excellent! In addition to their off-airport savings, they've even gone out of their way to make recommendations about how to extend my rental which saved me more than a hundred dollars. The keyless and backup camera features on the Nissan Sentra (rented for three weeks during repair of my own car) were great and made me a little sad to return the rental. A big shout out to manager Keith and the rest of the staff--they know the value of a lifetime customer. read more

Hi, after my experience with the manager Jill I decided to go on and read reviews. I find it comical that someone said Jill was excellent when she was rude and had no customer service experience from what I witnessed. If you don't like your job then don't work there but you can't expect to work in the customer service field and treat people disrespectfully or act like they don't exist because you don't feel like working or just have no personality to be kind. I asked a question and she huffed like I was intruding on her day and then proceeded to walk away with no response and left me there for 15 minutes wondering if she was actually going to assist me. This was the easiest car rental experience I've ever had.The car (2017 Nissan Versa) was in great condition, only 5.5k miles on it. The two salespeople I worked with (pickup and dropoff) were very nice and not pushy in the slightest. It definitely felt expensive at $35 per day with a discount code for the cheapest car they had, but it was the weekend in the summer, and again, they were so pleasant to deal with. I usually hate renting cars because they tend to really push you into upgrades and adding extra coverage you don't need. None of that happened here, I would absolutely rent from here again! read more

Never bothered to mention the $5 per day "admin fee" for the toll transponder when I rented the car and when I called and asked about it (after waiting 15 minutes for the privilege of talking to a human) the representative condescendingly asked me if I had ever rented a car before and knew how to read the disclosures on the contract. read more
