I rented a car for 4 days. The car wouldn't connect to my phone and the car it self had no navigation system. This was stressful as I needed directions to my destination and back. Halfway to my destination, the oil light came on saying the car needed an oil change now. This was stressful. I wish I could give a zero. I always use Enterprise and have never had an issue with over 100 rentals. I was given a Malibu at Hertz and the staff took about 45min to get the car ready even though I was the only client- the floors and backroom were filthy. It was a very raining day and my car slid into some gravel. The result was a small dent in the side and a flat tire. Today I received I notice that they want $2500 even though my insurance covered all but $11. The charges were such things as $420 for loss of use (keep in mind it's a Malibu, that must be 20 days of straight rentals which obviously never would have happened). $500 of 'administration bills' - what? My insurer had this resolved in a few days and how many times do you see exact an exact dollar bill? Diminished value - $840. Where did that number come from? How much would you get for an old Malibu? Maybe 8k? So I cost them almost $1k on a trade in lol. They keep these cars forever. Lastly, I let an ex enterprise manager look at this and he said it was robbery. PLEASE use enterprise, they are so easy to work with and will never try to rob you. Also, I lave a Porsche that was repaired in 2 days for cheaper with similar damage. Why did it take weeks to repair this? They must've have kindergarteners working on it Matt G read more

I picked up my car on a Friday and there's an issue that I need to fix which is impossible over the weekend with hertz. I am very pleased to report what a helpful and understanding GM this store has. Hakeem went above and beyond for our family holiday travel. I originally book through a third party and I was able to leave a day early but attempting to modify with the third party was messy and extremely expensive. I stopped in the store a week before we needed the car to see if there was anything that could be done, and everything worked out way better than I ever would have expected and without dealing with the third party booking site. This is not the first time I have had bad service at this location, but this time I left feeling discriminated against and humiliated, therefore I had to write this review. I will put on all social media later. I came to this location pick up a vehicle for the weekend. The location was closed during the middle of the day but no problem, I will wait. I waited and was given a vehicle that would suit my needs. Once I completed all of the paperwork, I was told I would now be given another vehicle for some reason. The vehicle I given had what looked like throw up on both doors and windows. I was told it was just adhesive and that it's no problem- no problem for whom? I was taking my grandkids to camp in NY and did not want to ride around in a car that had something so bad on the sides. It looked as though I never washed my car. That's when I found out that the person that came behind me was given the car I had by Akira Berry. I don't know if the people were friends of Ms. Berry, but I had to wait while they re-processed all the paperwork, to remove me out of the computer, under that vehicle. Basically I was booted out of the car so that someone else could have the car I had been given. I had to take the dirty car. What really upset me is that when Ms Berry told my rep what she had done, she laughed- she thought it funny. I asked for the rep name (Akira Berry-),so that I could complain to the manager. She acted as thou she did not care that she had degraded me and made me feel like I was not worthy of having a decent car. I understand why the Herz stock plummeted so in the past. No one wants dirty smelly cars provided to you by surly unprofessional reps who think it funny when a customer gets screwed. The only bright spot was the rep that was assisting me- Quintin. He was polite, professional and tried to diffuse the situation. However, it was apparent that Ms. Berry was his superior and he had no choice but to do what she requested. We were driving from Baltimore to Frederick on the highway in the pouring rain on Saturday 3-18-17 and was sliding all over the place. We could only go about 30 or 40 miles an hour on a posted 65. I was very disappointed to say the least. The manager, Jennifer Hernandez (i believe that's her name) was extremely rude and seemed to be practicing fraudulent business. 1st the intermediate car i reserved was not available and she attempted to give me a full size car for more money. I called her out on it before she changed it. Then, she was making the other employee input the data on paper instead of the computer which according to the employee, it is the first time it has ever happened. The manager leaves to go get the full size car and did not return for almost 30 mins and was not apologetic at all. Her response to everything was "this is the best i can do, you can always call the cooperate office". Her shady behavior was refusing to give me a receipt, stating "we do not give receipts anymore". I reminded her i have rented from hertz many times and always got a receipt. She insisted that's not the case and handed me the handwritten paper that had no indication how much i am to pay, mileage, condition of car, or the car that i was given. I left the office but did not have a good feeling about not having my receipt. I came back and insisted, she finally printed me the usual car rental receipt, claiming she did not initially because "i was in a rush". The car i was given made some weird noise and has damages that no one bothered to note. This was by far the worst experience i have ever had renting a car, period. They called me 2 hours before my scheduled time to pick up the car to tell me that they had given out all their cars and they had nothing for me to rent. Even though I had a confirmed reservation. Wow I had a very different experience than all others before. I found the staff very willing to help and accommodating to me and the other clients that came in. We rented a Minivan for the weekend and were given a GMC Tahoe which accommodated all passengers and was extremely comfortable and drove nicely. Staff was courteous and always had a smile, I have no complaints. Mike did a great job to make sure that everything was good. I usually rent out of the airports but the Frederick location was closer to work, so we tried it out and were pleased. It seems this location mostly serves corporate clients and rentals by insurance companies, they don't have the huge selection of cars but will get what you need if called in advance. I'll make sure to bring all of the hertz rental guidelines to back me up next time I rent from this location. Unfortunately it is the only Hertz in the area otherwise I'd avoid it at all costs. My friend and I made a reservation through USAA a month prior for a little road trip. I had called hertz because I wasn't able to add another driver when booking online. They told me I'd have to do it in store and that the fee would be waived as we were both USAA members. However, when I got to this store the man at the desk told me that he couldn't waive the fee unless I produced evidence somewhere in the Hertz guidelines. I tried looking in my phone but didn't have much time to argue with him as we were already late. He said he would split the fee with us though if I was unable to prove it to him. So we added the driver and went on our way. When we returned and got the final receipt we found out that he charged us the full amount for an additional driver and even added another day + fees onto the price. I went home and called Hertz corporate and the customer service agent agreed with me stating that all USAA members are added without the fee and referenced my original reservation to confirm that we only had the vehicle for 4 days. Within 5 minutes she had refunded me the $100 the store incorrectly charged me. Make sure you check all receipts, my original price quote was placed in the front of the pamphlet so everything looked perfect and the inflated revised receipt was hidden within the 12 pages of receipts/information. read more

I use Hertz at Buckeye's Town Pike every week for work. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. I was recently told if their relationship with Lyft for a free ride home after drop off. I always get serviceable and reliable transportation with XM radio for the long drive. Jordan and Jennifer are the folks I deal with most and find them professional and friendly. read more

My son needed a car for work will his was being repaired and was dropped off so had to take. I called got put on hold until they closed, kept calling and hung up on repeated because they were closing, finally owner said an agent offered a sedan, which was UNTRUE according to my son she only said they had the truck for more money. Why would you confirm a vehicle you do not have and then NOT honor the price and furthermore LIE to cover it up. This is the worst rental company I have ever used. There taking money out of my account with out me knowing and on the rental agreement it says u owe nothing until the rental is returned so Monday I will be at there office and I will see hertiz in court never use this company. Not to mention I got my first rental and there will pills in the car and I have two children kid told me the second car was just cleaned come to find out I was driving around for work and there was abort le of wine opened in the back of the car the 3 fetal is okay but still not happy about this at all they will be hearing about it on Monday read more

I have rented from this location over a dozen times in the last 2 yrs. The service has ranged from mediocre to awful. They always have limited selection and a few times they have given away my reserved car, requiring me to "upgrade" (aka pay more money). Calling corporate usually results in a refund so in the end the cost is the same, but the aggravation and extra time/work are not worth it. I am a gold Hertz member but am changing to Avis for local rentals. read more

BIZARRE and HORRIBLE customer service from Western Maryland District Manager Jordan Jacob based out of Frederick. I reserved a compact for Friday evening through early Monday morning at the Westminster location. Gabriel, Hertz employee from the Buckeystown Pike Frederick location, was covering for Westminster. He said all that's available is a van or SUV. He offered the van at no extra cost. I agreed to it. He made a call on speaker to District Manager Jordan Jacob who's also based at the Frederick location and manages Westminster and Hagerstown too. I listened quietly. Gabriel told Jordan he's giving me the van at no extra cost. Jordan, not knowing he's on speaker, told Gabriel "you could get fired for that," the van is supposed to rent at $100 a day. Jordan checked and confirmed I had a reservation and sounding frustrated and annoyed told Gabriel to upsell the van for an extra $50 per day and "just get her out of there." I was STUNNED. I stayed quiet to see what else he'd say but Gabriel took the call off speaker. I think he put the call on speaker because he reasonably thought giving me the upgrade for no extra cost wouldn't be an issue given the situation (that's what's normally done by other companies) and was trying his best to give quality service, unlike Jordan. I didn't rent anything and my weekend plans were ruined. But Jordan had nerve to speak like my situation was an inconvenience to him when THEY messed up! I guess Jordan prefers to have the van sit at Hertz all weekend. read more

Last Sunday, I picked up a car from the Hertz counter at the Baltimore airport for a week long training class that was held in Frederick, MD. I was in a hurry to get to Frederick when I picked up a Nissan Versa. When I got in the car, I noticed the windows were rolled down. I then discovered why - the car REEKED of cigarette smoke. I should have asked for another car then, but decided to push on. I drove the car for less than a mile when I noticed the front end seemed to have a mind of it's own - for no reason, it swerved from side to side as if one of the tires was low on air. I pulled over to check the tires and they seemed fine. Again, I decided to keep going (BIG MISTAKE). The car swerved the entire way to Frederick. Plus, the cigarette smoke was so bad that I drove with the windows rolled down. The next day, I called the Hertz location in Frederick and asked if I could swap the car I had for another. I was told that they had no cars available. I then called the Hertz corporate number and asked if there was anything they could do. They contacted the Hertz Frederick location, but was told that they would not cooperate with their request to swap cars. On Tuesday, I drove to the Hertz location in Frederick and once again asked for a replacement car. Again, I was told that they had no cars to swap. I explained that I would be in town though Friday and asked that they call me when a car became available. Of course, they never did. I bought a car air freshener and drove with the windows at least partially down the rest of the week. I'm surprised I wasn't pulled over by the police as the car swerved on it's on the entire time. I also tried to clean the windshield but discovered there was no fluid in the reservoir. I would not recommend paying the extra money to rent a car from Hertz as their cars and customer service are no better than the less expensive car rental companies. I would especially not want to do business with Hertz in Frederick, MD as their customer service is horrible. read more

Reserved a car for December 19 in October online. Stated that the renter was 22. Carefully read all exclusions and policies regarding a person under 25 renting a car. Only notation found was that there would be an additional fee due to age. This morning we are informed that they will not rent to someone under 26 paying with a debit card. This policy can be backed up nowhere in the paperwork or on the website. Just a sad little sign in a plastic sleeve on the counter. No manager on site to explain or help. No intelligent help available when calling Hertz corporate office. Supposedly no supervisor available to speak with because its the weekend. After a nearly two hour delay, we took our money to Enterprise where they happily took our money and supplied a car. read more

I attempted to rent an suv from the Frederick location. When I arrived the suv I was originally promised was unavailable so several other suv's were discussed and I chose one and we both agreed. Then at the last moment they pulled a bait and switch with a smaller crossover, so I walked out. Now going to Enterprise. The saddest thing for me was the fact I needed to postpone my trip due to Hertz poor customer service and integrity. read more
