I got there on Friday, and they said, they don't take Uber reservations on Fridays, I asked if he could write down the days of the week that they receive reservations And he did, I got there on Monday and he said that they don't accept reservations on Monday too and that he forgot that they don't accept reservations on Mondays. Literally the worse place to get a rental, they're open at 8am and NEVER ANSWER THE PHONE, i tried getting in touch with them over 2 hours. I arrived at the store and all you can hear is a phone ringing and nobody answering totally irresponsible and unprofessional. This location did not have my reserved truck (Ram 2500 4 door Truck or equivalent) available when I arrived - even though it showed as available on their website. They also did not help me transfer the reservation to a location that did have one available (I offered to pick up at another location when it wasn't available). It was just excuse after excuse of why they couldn't help me with no interest in actually solving the issue. Hertz phone support wasn't any better, even when put on speaker with the local Haverhill hertz manager. I wasted over an hour and a half at this location and got nowhere. I required a truck and would have rented from somewhere else from the start if I would have known that this location would renege on their reservation and leave me stranded. Requested a vehicle a month out because my car was damaged in an accident (other driver completely at fault and their insurance was covering it) and was going to be in the shop for a week. I was contacted by Hertz about a month in advance about what type of car I would need. I require a vehicle with a certain amount of cargo space for work and made sure that they were aware I would need cargo space equal to my original vehicle. I was told I would be given a full size SUV (the example I was given was Ford Explorer) just to be safe. Dropped my Forester off for repair and was initially given a car significantly smaller (Mitsubishi Outlander). Exchanged it for something bigger and was given another car that has less cargo than my original vehicle. When I then attempted to swap it out again (as it didn't meet the requirements I had requested with a months notice) I was told that because it was the busy season they had no way of helping me. I tried this at 4 different Hertz offices and the last one told me that I would have to look outside New England (where I am based) if I wanted a different car. Completely unacceptable. read more

Tl;dr Don't go to Hertz, any of them. They have very shady business practices. If you don't have a choice in the matter have them explain every single thing 100% and make absolutely sure they will have the vehicle you need. If I could give 0 stars, I would. DO NOT GO HERE. Better to go to Enterprise rental, I wish I could go back in time and do that. First off, I had some particular requirements for a vehicle necessary for my job. Of the requirements, the only one they met was that the vehicle had 4 doors. It wasn't full size as requested, it wasn't as good on gas as was requested, it didn't have the features I asked for, and it was absolute garbage in the snow (a very necessary feature). All I was trying to do was get as close to my car as I could with a rental. They didn't give me an option out of the 10 cars on the lot and gave me a little PoS car. They explained next to nothing about the rental process as though I am well versed in the inner workings and standard operating procedures of vehicle rentals. They should explain so that a lay person with no experience in renting vehicles can understand. Apparently there are many different options with regard to the rental process that they didn't explain and simply signed me up for whichever one they felt like doing. Shady business practices. The icing on the cake though came after I returned the vehicle and found out I had been charged almost $300 when I was told it would be about $45. That's hardly the same number, not even in the same ballpark. When I called they took about 35 minutes to finally find my contract information and explain the charge to me. They said it was from the insurance, which I was told would cost only $20. Well they conveniently left out the part where it was $20 PER DAY. Yeah, I'm not paying that. Get your shady business out of here. The manager, who didn't seem like he had been with the company for very long or at least is a new manager, told me there was nothing he could do. The only helpful thing he did was give me the contact information of his boss, their area manager. Apparently he likes to jet out early though, or maybe he just gets out earlier than your average person, because when I called at 4:00 there was no answer. His machine said he would be out of the office until yesterday. Well if that's the case....why didn't he answer my 3 calls? Fortunately he seemed to be pretty professional as he left contact information of another manager in the event of another emergency. Well I'd certainly consider Hertz STEALING almost $300 from me an emergency. I called the other gentleman and he seemed very concerned and said he would look into it for me and hopefully get back to me by the end of the day today. I sincerely hope he actually does something. I reserved a minivan on line and got a confirmation number. When I got the this location they stated the didn't have a vehicle for me and blamed me for using an on line booking site. The counter help was extremely unhelpful as well arrogant and rude. Gentlemen told he can get me a car but he was waiting for confirmation from Medford, Ma that is 2 hours away with Friday afternoon traffic. They just excepted me to wait and continued to blame me for using a 3 rd party booking site. Enterprise in right up the street, drive right by this dump and go there. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. This company charged me for two days I did not have the vehicle! Because they originally told me to return the car Saturday morning. I returned it Saturday afternoon after hours, and because they are closed Sunday and Monday (who knew..), that they "didn't know" I didn't have the car through then. Therefore they charged me! Now, in the rental process they never told me their hours for the next few days. I'm taking it up with the business fraud department now. What a hassle! read more

This place sucks! I went to rent a car and CALLED PRIOR TO PICKING IT UP TO CONFIRM RESERVATION the staffer that answered the phone "Jean Paul" not sure if that is his name, was not helpful at all. He told me that they had no more cars available and therefore I wasn't able to pick up a car. Then I showed up to the store and talked to another person and they somehow found a car. Horrible experience! I reserved a full size car on the national Hertz.com website about a week prior to when I needed the car. I requested a pick up at the Lawrence Airport which looked like a pick up point on the Hertz web site but it was very unclear. When I arrived at the Lawrence Airport on Friday to pick up the car, they said there wasn't one there for me because I did not come in on an incoming flight. The attendant at the airport (which was not a Hertz employee) called Hertz and they informed me that I needed to pick it up in Haverhill. We were told someone would be there until 6 pm (it's about 4:30 pm at the time of the call). We drove to Haverhill only to find the doors locked and a sign indicating that someone would be back by 5 pm. I called the phone # provided on the confirmation and was told that the attendant had to step out to pick up a car and would be back in 10-15 minutes. I also commented that I did not see any full size cars in the parking lot and asked if he could check the inventory for this location. He said he could not ... very interesting as I thought Hertz had joined the 21st Century! We waited, attendant arrived looking very frazzled. We gave him a few minutes to "open" up and proceeded to have him fulfill our reservation. We asked which car we would be able to rent and he stated there were only compact cars available as the one small SUV has already been rented. At this point, we just walked out. It's 5:15 pm at this point and we've spend over an hour, driven to two places only to find out that they don't have an appropriate car for us. On our way back home, we decided to call Enterprise Car Rental on So. Union Street in Lawrence. They had a Chevy HHR which was readily available at an outstanding weekend rental price. We arrived around 5:30 pm, it took about 10 minutes and off we went with an appropriate vehicle for our needs. The attendants (all 3 of them) at Enterprise were friendly, helpful and courteous. We're NEVER renting from Hertz again and am a big fan of Enterprise! Thanks you Enterprise for making our weekend! read more
