My car needed some body work, and I arranged a rental through my car insurance app. I called twice before my rental date to confirm, but both times were met with a hurried reply. They were unable to pick me up, despite me calling a day ahead. So I spent $10 on an Uber ride there. They open at 7:30, but I was told they couldn't have a car ready until 8:30. When I arrived at 8:30, there was a sign on the door - saying they had stepped away and would be back in 30 minutes?! Not looking good, and I do not even have a rental vehicle yet...I called the number on the door, and was advised she would "be there in 5 minutes". When she arrived she said "hi" and that was it. I dropped my vehicle off to be repaired at 7:30am. It is now 9:00am and I am back home with my rental car. The vehicle is nice, clean and runs well. I am now very sceptical of this Hertz location and am already anticipating issues when I return the car. read more

Updating my review again as this location now has more bad management and less competent people running the location. I rented my car again from this location. First, I had to wait for 45 minutes before even the representative showed up. Then, the car he gave me had very high miles, mechanical issues and was in very dirty inside and out. I also found pieces of garbage in the trunk of the car. There were spilled soda stains (sticky with dirt and grime), on door handles and seats. The car made a weird noise when turning - like wheel is gonna fly away. Surprisingly, while I am president's circle member, I should be getting a car in a better shape, I got the a rundown car that needs mechanics attention right away. I called the location to report these issues and guess what - they told me that they rented the car in perfect condition and they can't do anything about it. Make me feel really regret my decision to rent from this location. Bad Management, Bad attitude, Bad customer Service and Bad conflict resolution training. I tried to book my rental car from here last year when my car required body work, because this is the rental company State Farm prefers. It was completely disorganized. When I called back to update some information before getting the car, the person had seemed to have no clue that I had a car reserved and acted like I was calling the wrong car rental. She finally mumbled something like "I don't even know" and hung up on me. So the body shop booked me through Enterprise, which went very smoothly. read more

Horrible service. I was getting my car repaired at Packey Webb Ford in Wheaton, and State Farm had arranged to get me a rental car through this Hertz. I was told by them to call them once I was dropping my car off, and they would pick me up to get a rental. I called, and waited....and waited....and waited. After 30 minutes, I called asking where they were at, and I got the response "I sent him out 20 minutes ago. He should be there any minute." The Hertz location is 0.5 miles down the road from the dealership I was getting my car repaired at. I waited another 15 minutes, and decided to walk down Roosevelt Rd. to the Hertz location. On the way, I saw Enterprise - and walked in there. They greeted me with a smile, and got me in a car extremely fast. Yes, I may have had to call State Farm for 10 minutes to rearrange my reservation to Enterprise instead, but it was worth it. The driver finally called me 50 minutes after they were supposed to pick me up, and I informed him their service was horrible and I can't stand outside for 50 minutes waiting for a rental car company that is 1 minute away by car. read more

I'd hit hertz with a 0 star review if possible. Rented a car here when my car was wrecked in a crash. Was told it would be 40 a day and made it clear I was declining insurance because I was using my own. Got my receipt from the rental a few days later and got my rental costs doubled due them adding an insurance waiver I never asked for. Unethical and dishonest. Next time I need a rental I'll go to enterprise instead of wasting my money and time on an overpriced car from hertz. read more

This location is woefully understaffed and that makes it difficult for them to compete with Enterprise where they seem to have 4-6 people and the offices are never temporarily locked. Even so, my experience was unpleasant because of misleading statements from the rep I dealt with who was nearly 40 minutes late in arriving to bring me to their location. She saw no reason to apologize and talked to me as if there was no problem with her tardiness or the time it took for them to figure out the rental process. She asked me if I felt as though I was receiving world class customer service and I didn't respond as we were both on different planes of communication at that point. The car was dirty on the exterior and smelled very strongly of an air freshener inside. I got it washed myself and while it looked better it still smelled like a visit to the scented candle store from hell. I have been a Hertz Gold member for 30 years, but I cannot see myself every using this location again. read more

I'm currently giving hertz 1 star with a chance to redeem themselves I had reservation for 8:30am today. The location opens at 7:30am and I arrived at the location around 8:25am. The door was locked and there was a note on the door stating that someone would be back by 8:30am due to "traffic". Here's where the problems began. I waited outside until 8:40am and still, no one showed up. So, I called the "immediate assistance" number on the window. The rep on the phone took notes and sent an email to the site manager, so we will see what happens with that. I had to go to the auto part store next door to warm up because waiting outside for 20 minutes in 20 degree weather isn't what I call fun. Finally a staff member or manager pulled in the parking lot at 8:52am(20+minutes after they were supposed to be back). With that being said, it dawned on me that this guy was working alone this morning. This is where I put the blame on the company and not the employee. He had to drop someone off who previously rented a car, which is why the store was locked up. What I blame the employee for, is the messy car that was given to me. At this point I'm running late for work and I hear the guy in the back...vacuuming the car. He then admitted to keeping the car for personal use and he had to take his belongings out and clean. When I got In the car, the first thing I did was take pictures because I DID NOT see where he vacuumed. It looks like popcorn in the cup holder, pixie stick candy around the edges, and dried up mucus(snot) on the driver side dash board. I asked about a discount due to all the inconvenience listed above and the employee said he could apply something next time or give me some type of voucher. I kind expected that to be done at the time of rental, but we will see what happens. read more

Quite possibly the worst run Hertz in the entire corporate system and I'm only saying that because I have yet to visit them all. Not only does the staff frequently pop out for up to 20 minutes at a time, they rarely have the car type you reserved - that's assuming they even have cars. As a 5 star gold hertz member, I have experienced my fair share of hertz locations throughout the world. To provide context, I'm renting from hertz 7 times in the upcoming two weeks. I typically rent 25+ times a year and this location, unequivocally, is the most poorly managed and staffed location. I recognize this is not an airport location with the appropriate staffing but Hertz you can and should do better. One thing I should mention, though, is that when the employee finally did show up, he was apologetic and tried to accommodate me as best he could. Rented a car for three days last week. The young women at the small office, Joy and Phylisha, are great and basically "run the entire operation." They literally have to do EVERYTHING, including taking reservations/answering questions pre-rental over the phone, check out the cars to customers, clean cars, take pics of car b4 and after including when accepting returned cars, running charges through the system -- and just as important, pick-up and take home customers as requested. So, for all of you who have complained about the "out of office" sign on the door, they are not out "goofing off" but more than likely picking up or dropping off one of the customers. Really terrible experience at this Hertz. I had placed a reservation through work to pick up a standard car here. Let me begin by saying that this is against Hertz as a company and not the people who work at this location. My reservation time was 5pm. I had arrived a little early (about 4:45) to get the car and there was a sign on the door saying that they're sorry for the inconvenience, however, they would be back in 20 minutes. To call a number listed for assistance. I immediately called the number and the person over the phone said that they would be back in 10 minutes, not even. As I'm sitting in the car, I notice that other people are walking up waiting outside the door as well. I got out at about 5pm and they're still not there. I start talking to the other people who have been waiting since 4pm saying that when they called they were told they would be 15-20 mins. I had found out through them, that the only 2 people working left to go and get a car for another reservation. The 2 people who worked at this location finally showed up at about 5:15, a half hour later, with 2 cars. By this point, there were 3 people waiting. The initial reason why they left to get a car is because the one reservation's car was not there. They brought back the wrong car for the guy and he was FURIOUS. They had made him wait for over an hour for a car he reserved and then brought the wrong type of car because the one he initially reserved was unavailable. Thankfully I was taken care of within 10 minutes and left with my rental. A Hyundai Elantra with only 6,000 miles on it and Sirius XM Radio. I am unsure of how this works, but this is how I perceive this - I do not think that this is the fault of the people who work at this location. I feel that this is completely the fault of Hertz as a company. How are you going to have a location that has AT MOST 2 cars?! How are you going to have reservations pre-booked at this location and NOT have the cars that were reserved? How is this the responsibility of 2 people who work here? How can you run a business when you make the people who run the office, also run the vehicles? Working in customer service for the past 10 years - the people at the location are doing the best they can with what they are dealt with. They were nice to me and got me in and out quickly (once they were physically there). The location is extremely convenient for me as it would suck to go all the way to the airport for a car. I was disappointed with Hertz as they are a large company and should know better. Even if this is a franchise, your name is still on the building. The only reason I even give the 2 stars is because the people were nice to me and the quality of the car I received was decent as it was practically new. read more

Camren helped me get into my car right on time and made sure everything was coordinated with our drop-off location in Ohio. Great job! read more

I received no help from this location whatsoever. I was renting a car while mine was being repaired and insurance was covering the rental. I called to extend the rental because my repair was taking longer than originally planned. The employee barely took my information and told me they were not there to do it right away but would do it when they got back. I wasn't given any confirmation that the extension would be done besides the employee's word. A few days later, I went to return the car around 10am. When I arrived, there was no one in the building and the door was locked. I waited a good 10-15 minutes before dropping my keys in the express drop. However, when I called later in the day to discuss the return, there was no answer. I am reading that other people have had experiences where there has been a sign in the door saying they would be back in 20 minutes but the only thing in the door was that their hours of operation are 7:30am-6pm Monday-Friday. I also drove around back and saw no one out there so I am wondering if there was even anyone at the location during their hours of operation? read more

I specifically reserved a mini van that will comfortably hold 6 passengers including driver online and quoted a great rate. I even stopped by the location to ensure they will have the vehicle I requested. However, on the day of my pickup I phoned the location and they said that no van was available. Upon arriving at the location, the agent explained that no van was available but I could travel several miles north and get a van located in Des Plaines, IL. I arrived at this location just prior to them closing at 1:00PM The agent attempted to rent the vehicle to me for $100.00 over the rate I was quoted. I phone customer service and they tried to contact this location by phone but the agent had already programmed answering system and she did not pick up the telephone when ringing form customer service. It was about 15-20 minutes past her quitting time, so she finally made adjustments to the rate. The minivan had approximately 56,000 mile on it and it was not thoroughly cleaned on the inside and it smelled with smoke. Before i arrived at my destination I noticed that the windshield wiper blade was wore out. I contacted customer service and they advised me to go to a local Firestone Dealer and replace wiper blades. After wiper blades were replaced I started vehicle and the change oil light comes on. I'm about 800 miles away from home and did not want to risk chance of oil getting extremely low and engine locks so I took vehicle to BWI airport and exchanged it for another one. After driving the exchanged vehicle around for a couple days the passenger side rear door stops working and would not open. I go back to BWI airport to exchange this vehicle. The airport agents were extremely helpful and understandable. Not so with local agents at the Lombard, IL and Des Plaines locations. The manager and rental agents seemed to care less. read more

OMG - do NOT rent a car from this location. The two employees must not have more than a 1st grade IQ - collectively. Save yourself the hassle now before it's too late! I had a great experience at the Oakbrook office, but thought I was being smart using the Lombard location this time because it's closer and I can avoid the $27 hotel fee that's tacked on at the Oakbrook location. I started out by arriving on time for my reservation pick-up time, and being in line behind someone else (who's reserved car was not there), so they gave my reserved vehicle away to the person in front of me in line - even though I'm standing right there. Then when they go to assist me, they actually tell me that they just gave it away b/c they didn't have the first customer's van, so they gave away my suv. What?! So that customer's problem just became my problem, and now they have 2 out of 2 unhappy customers, neither of which got what they reserved. Then they explained to me that a reservation isn't really a reservation for a certain car....it's just a request. And if they have it in stock, great, and if not, oh well. Good to know. Next, the vehicle we get is trashed, and only had a half tank of fuel, not full. So rather than turn around and deal with them again, I just took a time-stamped photo of the mileage and fuel indicator and kept it to explain to them on the return so we don't get charged for a full tank, when we are only filling it to the half tank we received. (Can you sense the foreshadowing and feel that there is going to be a problem with the return?) We return the vehicle, and they tell me 'no problem' on the fuel. They said they knew it was only half full. Huh?? Why would they only fill it half way, tell us it needs to be returned with a full tank, but then acknowledge later that it was only half full? Because they're a little bit dim perhaps?? About a week later, I call to make sure it was taken care of and try to get a copy of my receipt showing the charges, but it's "lost in the system" and they advise to wait a few more days. A few days later I receive a call from corporate Hertz telling me that the vehicle I rented has not been checked back in, and needs to be taken care of. Huh?? I call Hertz immediately (6pm), but the Lombard office is closed, so this very nice customer service person (toll free number) typed the story into their system, (the car has not been on the road for an extra week and be charged to me) and thought it should be cleared up per our conversation, and said a receipt should be emailed to me within 24 hours. Of course, no email arrives. I call the Lombard store a day later to confirm the vehicle is checked in, that I wasn't charged for any extra days, that I wasn't charged for any extra fuel fill, and that my deposit was returned to my credit card. Employee #1 says she will check, but said she can only see limited information on her screen without the contract number (cant pull up the info from my name, dates of rental and my license number). I get put on hold. 15 minutes later, she says she shows the vehicle is checked in and that's all she can tell me. No assistance to figure out the internal Hertz miscommunication, to see if it still needs to be cleared up internally, no assistance in whether or not I was charged extra or if Hertz refunded my deposit (its been over a week.) Basically, I think Hertz hired people who have no idea how to operate a business, have not been trained in customer service nor operations and who basically aren't responsible for a whole lot. Wow! I'm so sorry to read some other reviews, but I received exceptional and outstanding service today at this location. A lot of people visit and/or post on Yelp when angry (unless it's a restaurant or hotel) but I wanted to post something positive because (honestly) the service I received was GREAT. I suffered an awful experience at Enterprise in Glen Ellyn earlier today and after being forced to prove I was not a deadbeat for using a Debit Card at Enterprise, They require some utility bill nonsense. I decided I wasn't going to give Enterprise one single dollar of my business. I actually stormed out. I still needed a rental car so I went online and saw this location was close to my home. There was even a discount code that saved me $18 from the Enterprise price. Check in was simple and I could do most of that at home online before I arrived. The manager and manager-in-training (Carmen, I believe was his name) were both fantastic Quick, efficient and helpful. I started breaking down into tears over my experience at Enterprise and the Hertz employees were sympathetic and understanding. I even called up the Hertz corporate office and talked with customer service about my positive experience with Hertz. I'm only renting the car for 2 days, but so far I've had no problems. The car even has free siriusXM on the radio. After I dropped off my kids, I listened to Howard Stern (which I haven't done in about 10 years). That was a nice and naughty treat. Overall I am thrilled with my service from Hertz. I have an upcoming trip to Orlando in November. I used Priceline bidding and was happy to see Hertz accepted my offer. I am so glad I will be using Hertz for my vacation. It's always scary using Priceline bidding because new, smaller car rental companies are popping up all over and you could get stuck with some unknown chain. At least with Hertz I know I will be receiving great service, a great price and I won't have to supply a utility bill when using my debit card. (which is the policy at Enterprise and it is ridiculous). I drive past this location every day on my way to work and I never noticed it before today. This location of Hertz is the worth place in my 4 years renting with Hertz. Points to mention: 1. They never have car for the class we book for. They will always ask to adjust for another car. 2. NEVER got a clean car. Always dirty from the previous rental 3. NEVER got a full tank and the guy says, bring it on the same level !! How do I do that? And when we bring it to the same level, they say, when you took the car, it was 8/8. I never minded that because, my company pays for it. 4. Since last 14 weeks, I was been told to adjust in the same car since they do not have a car. Why do I think I pay for the car rental? So that I clean it and wash it for 14 weeks? They even asked me if I could change the oil on their behalf and they would return the money for it. Am I a hertz employee?!? 5. One guys makes promise to return it at low fuel level and then when we go there, the other guys says, it was not me. Please check with other guy. 6. Spoke to the branch head, David/Brain, and his tone is also same! Decided to not return to this location ever and warn others. This did not happened once but since 6 months. read more

I was in an accident earlier this month and the person who was at fault had State Farm insurance, who only works through Hertz. I arrived Monday morning a little behind my reservation time. I was weary since I've seen many terrible reviews already, and always use Enterprise which is up the street and always have a wonderful experience. When I arrived there was one guy working, I sat down and he asked for my name. He said oh, we gave away your car since you're late. Which I highly doubt since there was absolutely no one else in the entire vicinity of hertz. (I wonder why...) after he took my license and credit card, he said I'm gonna bring it around front. After waiting 10 minutes he came around with the Hyundai Elantra which he clearly did a quick rinse down with the garden hose out back. There was still dirt and tree buds all over the car. He gets out, hands me the keys... I said to him; "are we going to do a walk through?" He replied "no, we don't have to, minor scratches don't count." When I got in the car it was filthy, smelled of stale smoke, sticky and dirty. I was halfway down the street when I wanted to turn around and get a different car, but instead I just kept it, knowing my car will not be long in the shop. I returned the car over night with a quarter tank and was on my way. Only to receive a letter in the mail today that I owe $87 because of fuel. It's a Hyundai Elantra. $87 will get you 3 filled tanks. After I called the number on the bill the woman who I was speaking to talked over me, and said it's not her problem you need to call the rental place. I did so, and was on hold for another 10 minutes. Apparently it's listed all over and in my contract (in which I never signed one!) that it is $10/gallon if hertz fills the tank. I never signed an agreement as I told the guy and he said I agreed by giving them my license?? How does that convert into a signature? Now I'm stuck with paying this amount because they feel the need to blatantly steal. $10 a gallon, get over yourselves. The place is a joke. The only reason it's still open is because insurance companies like State Farm send them the business and people like me get stuck with an astronomical gas bill for a garbage rental car. 1 star is not deserved; for their customer service, their lack of professionalism and their filthy cars they rent out.
