I am happy to say I had no issues at all at Hertz. I realize I'm a lucky one because there is an insane shortage of rentals right now, but it all worked well for me. I flew into O'Hare but ended up renting all the way in Glendale Heights. Renting in Glendale Heights vs O'Hare made a $500 difference in the rental. No I am not kidding. That is how nuts rentals are right now. I have great friends who took me to/from the airport each way so it didn't end up being a huge hassle. The guy working the front desk was friendly, quick, easy to work with and personable. Getting through the check in process was very fast but waiting for the rental took a bit of time. I think I waited ~20 minutes after checking in for the car to come back from an oil change. It was freshly washed though, so that was nice. I don't think they checked the car thoroughly before handing it off to me because I found a Reese's Peanut Butter Cups wrapper between the seats (it was hidden but grossed me out & made me hungry at the same time when I found it). Plus, there were some fishing hooks hooked into the trunk which my friend was able to pry off. Returning the car was even more simple, just returned the keys and I was good to go! Was my experience perfect? No, but it wasn't bad in any way and I would recommend and rent from this location again. read more

A long time ago Seinfeld show accurately described and predicted how rental car companies work. "They know how to take a reservation but not how to hold one". Their policies in fine print are excruciatingly complex and it's never in your favor. Want a nice luxury sedan too bad you had a reservation and paid in advance we don't have one and don't care. Was stuck an hour on the telephone to get my money refunded for the econo box they downgraded me to while the npc just sat there on his phone watching Tik Tok videos. Note: The car was the worst part of our trip which was cross country. Please don't make the mistake I made since I was in a hurry to get out of this hole; Gave us a half tank of gas but expect you to pay for full on return. Please get it in writing how much gas was in the tank. A Gold member does not mean anything nor you get anything beneficial from them. Its a worse experience than shady dealerships but at least you know what you are getting into from them. Sadly Hertz mission statement should now be "To be the lowest quality, highest cost and most painful customer service rental company in every market we serve, we only create value for our shareholders." read more

This is the worst customer care I've ever received! The lady working at the front desk just walked out of the office without informing me anything! I got here 7:27 am for a 7:30 am pick up. I know I'm early, so I asked if I can start my paperwork, and she gave me attitude and told me no, the computer isn't ready yet! I had a decent experience renting through them. I did note that one of the employees made a snotty sarcastic comment when I was taking pictures and video of the car I was renting. He laughed and asked if I wanted to take a picture with their car. Apparently not many people document damage so they don't get blamed for it... Who knows What I am irritated about is that I rented a car through my insurance and they had me swipe my credit card for some sort of deposit. That never got charged to my credit card but the day they wanted me to return the car was Christmas Day. They told me since they'd be closed to just drop the key in the drop box. Which I did. I later notice that on my bank statement I was charged $8.69 on Christmas Day. And the kicker is the way that charge was authorized... was with a credit card swipe! How does that work? Your building was not open Christmas Day meaning I could not step foot in the building nor could I swipe my credit card on that day. So they thought they could just say I authorized it by swiping because I did so days before when I first picked up the car for a different type of charge that was refundable. I in no way authorized any charge on that day and when I called they told me it was tax. My car insurance company would have covered all charges for my rental so I don't understand why they think they could try to sneak in a charge on my credit card without my authorization. Thankfully I have a great credit card company that let me dispute it right away. always check your receipts and your bank statements when working with this place. read more

I thought my pick up was 12. They couldn't change it. It was for 5. So we came back got there at 5:15 and they were there but they said they were closed and they couldn't rent me the vehicle. Mind you, when I checked on my phone it says open until 6. There was no sign on the door about open times. They rent from Sunrise Chevrolet. How they could rent to these miserable people is beyond me. I showed Joe my phone and said see it says you close at 6. He said that's google you have to go to the hertz site. So I did and couldn't find the operating times anywhere. Do not rent from here solely on the basis they have no soul and care only about sitting behind a desk or hiding in the back. Truly bottom feeders of society. The world needs people to help and care about people. You never know what someone is going through. If they knew I was coming back why couldn't they wait a few more minutes. And why would a company schedule a pick up at the exact time they close?!!! They would have to stay a bit after 5 anyways to do the paper work. They also expect you to have a credit card and you need a credit score of 750 or more to rent the bigger vehicle like mine was going to be a mid size SUV. Basically they are a fraud. Do t trust them. If there were zero stars hertz would win! This location Sucks. This was my first time renting and honey they need some employees. I walked in the place was packed and there was one lady working. ONE. they run your credit for what? Enterprise doesn't do that. And the lady left to sanitize the car and was gone for 25 minutes. Usually when cars come back they sanitize soo its ready for the next customer. They have extra hidden fees they are not slick. Never again they are super cheap because they suck! I went to Enterprise where I got in and out in 5 minutes! That location need to be shut down the lady is rude as hell too. Poor customer service! Im sorry she hates her job it appeared! This was my second time renting at this Hertz location, and I am never renting here again. Last time, an after hours return did not result in day charges until the location opened. This time, it did, but we were not told until after we returned the car. Check out the invoice from when we picked up the car and compare it to the receipt from after we returned: the invoice only has charges for three days (and confirms the return day as Sunday, when the location is closed), while the receipt has charges for four days. The Hertz website makes no mention that after hours return will absolutely result in extra day charges, and the woman who helped us during pick up neglected to mention the extra day charge (though she claims otherwise, which I'll get to in a little bit). A call to the location resulted in a shouting match. The woman who answered claimed that she told us about the extra day charges when we asked about after hours return, but the three of us present at the time of pick up do not remember this. She also claimed that the lack of extra day charges from our last rental was incorrect policy, and this lack of enforcement resulted in all of the previous staff at this location being fired. A call to Hertz Billing also resulted in a shouting match, because the woman who answered conferred with the location and took the location's story, with the location now additionally claiming that she told us "three times" about the extra day charges. Now I am forced to open up a dispute with my credit card company. Unfortunate, because I was looking forward to renting at this Hertz location in the future. read more

This location is the worst rental facility we ever rented a vehicle from. 1. We arrived there at 8 a.m. for pick-up and we waited for almost half an hour to have someone come to the desk. 2. And then this rude lady Alba didn't even care to apologize for the wait instead she had an excuse that she was cleaning our car. She had the audacity to take numerous phone calls knowing we had already waited for her and that was the time that my wife called her out on her rude behavior. 3. Thankfully, Ashley came in, she was helping out from another location that day. But when we checked the vehicle with Ashley, we noticed Alba lied about cleaning it since we both took pictures and there were dog hairs and other disgusting stuff all over the minivan. Ashley had to clean it herself which led us to wait for another 20-30 mins. In summary, our pick-up time is scheduled for 8 a.m., but we didn't leave the facility until 9:50 a.m. 4. The minivan they rented us is old (50,000+ miles) and beat up (with lots of huge dents, marks and scratches all over). And yes, we have plenty of pictures to prove it. And even Ashley herself was embarrassed that a company like Hertz would rent this to a loyal Gold Plus member. 5. And the worst part after driving it for a day we can tell it has mechanical failures, but upon calling this location (Alba once again), she said they can't replace it. Her excuse this time: "We don't usually get minivans." 6. When we returned the vehicle, the newly hired gentleman refused to take care of us instead he focused on either answering the calls coming in or talking to this guy who has a ton of questions about his third party rental. Alba was there too, but she couldn't be bothered. 7. We were issued a $51 credit as stated on our rental agreement which was originally approved over the phone by their General Manager (Dave), but it hasn't showed up in our credit card. It's now going on two weeks, and we still haven't heard from the manager or GM. And we have asked to speak to them on numerous occasions to address all our concerns. *So to anyone reading this review and all the other reviews presented before us, we are stating facts based on what we have experienced firsthand. By all means avoid this rental facility unless you want to go through a ton of headaches and stress. You've been warned. read more

I recently had a need to rent a vehicle after mine was totaled on Labor Day by a drunk illegal alien driving the wrong way on North Ave. I booked both of my rental dates online with Hertz. When I arrived, I was taken care of both times by very friendly and sympathetic employees. The rates were great, the vehicles were clean and performed flawlessly. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I will definately recommend the Glendale Heights Hertz to friends and family in the future. read more

My car was unexpectedly put in the shop and I borrowed a car from a family member for the day thinking my car would be done. Wrong. So I needed a rental and booked around 11am for a 5pm pickup after work. Got off work EARLY to make it on time and waiting in line for about 10-15 min then the manager comes out and tells us that they have no more cars to be rented for the day. There were 4 of us waiting to pick up, all with reservations for 5pm. 3 of us walked out carless because the one car they did had went to the person who booked before the rest of us. They don't warn you that they might not have a car for you when you make a reservation and they did absolutely nothing us to help us. I know it wasn't the managers fault, but whoever is the person that allows reservations to go through to Hertz KNOWING that they are overbooking needs to be reprimanded. If you're booking here don't wait too late and try to be there earlier in the day. read more

The Hertz individual at this location told me I actually "screwed things up" by following the check-in process via the email I received from Hertz the day prior to my rental. Makes sense?! One star is generous. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had renting a car or really with anything. On my first visit I waited 45 minutes for anyone to even walk into the office and help me, and once someone got in the first thing they tell me is that someone was supposed to call me to tell me they didn't have a car for me. I had the reservation made for a week. Of course after a few minutes of typing, that was no longer the case and there was an available car ???? The car itself was fine, except the gauge cluster read in kilometers and not miles per hour, which is Something they should not only alter themselves but at least warn the customer about. Upon returning the car I left my ipass in it. I realized this after their business hours and called and left a message. No one got back to me, so I tried again the next day and left another message. Today STILL no one got back to me so I called again and they assured me that not only has the car been given to someone else, but that my ipass "wasn't in it". My bank account says otherwise. Basically I would rather pour fire ants into my anus with a large funnel than ever go to this hertz again. read more

This is a terrible location because of its customer service. Alba does not care about your story. All she does is complain that they are understaffed. Unfortunately, the customer does not care about that and would like to be talked to with respect. Some of the people coming for a rent a car have been in accidents (like myself) and want to be treated with compassion. St. Charles is way nicer so I went there. I read the reviews and was nervous about renting the car. However, I had a pleasant experience. I went in earlier than my reservation and was able to pick it up. I dropped the car off and the nice lady at the front desk dropped me back home. I wish that when I got the rental they brought it to my house instead of me having to pick it up. They promised a full size and received a compact as that is all they had. The battery in the remote was dead, the engine light came on after a few days, the brakes chattered, and they still did not have another car. It was undriveable. Horrible experience! Was going on vacation and rented an SUV. When I got there, the SUV was ready, didn't have to wait too long, but when I got in the car - it smelled terribly of smoke so I went back to the counter to get a different car. I was told they had no additional SUV's and was offered a car. The associate made me feel like I was inconveniencing her - never apologized for the condition of the car. I was downgraded to a car, which was an issue due to the amount of stuff I was taking on vacation. She then proceeded to charge me the same amount for a smaller vehicle. When I brought it to her attention, she rolled her eyes and took another 20 minutes to figure out how to apply the nominal credit she offered. When I got out to the new vehicle - it too smelled of smoke. In fact, there was a film of dirt across the the inside of windshield (wish I could insert the picture I took.) It was so bad, I couldn't see when driving into the sun. There was also some sticky substance all over the back seat. Long story short, it took me an 1.5 hours to clean the car before I could leave. Called customer service the next day and was passed around for 18 minutes before I talked to someone who said they could help me. I was promised a call back from a manager within 48 hours. That was a week ago and I've received no such call. Go to another vendor - this was awful. read more

Make sure you're clear with your guest with what they're being charged before they leave the building. I reserved a car online weeks in advance and when I got there I was told that they did not have a car for me and was told that there was a car that was in the class above my reserved rental but that I had to pay an additional $300 to upgrade to this car, while my rental period was only 3 days. They wanted me to pay for their mistake. Also had to wait 45 min to get help since only one person was working. Oh and then I found out that they did in fact have a rental car in my class but refused to give it to me because"it had less than 1/8th tank of gas". read more

State Farm contacted Hertz at this location to allow me to rent a car after my accident. I showed up during their business hours and no one was there to serve me (or anyone else for that matter). There was a sign at the desk saying they'd be back in 20 mins. The guys in the car dealership said they'd page the Hertz guys; I waited about 10 mins. and called the Hertz number. I had reached the Hertz office in Lombard. That guy told me the Glendale Hgts. person had stepped out, and that I needed to wait--but I had already waited, and I couldn't any longer--my ride was leaving. Today I'm going to Enterprise. My car was in the shop and they were supposed to have a car ready for me. When I got there, I waited for 45 minutes for someone to assist me (I actually had to ask the car dealership they were attached to for assistance and they paged a Hertz employee). When I returned the car, I forgot my iPass on the dashboard. I called them back as soon as I left the dealership and left a message. No response for 3 days. I called them again, and they told me they knew nothing about it. So apparently, they don't do the post-rental inspections they claim to do. Unbelievably bad service. Everyone I have talked to so far has no idea what's going on. Either that or they're idiots. I will be contacting them for reimbursement if any charges show up on my iPass, as well as reimbursement for the cost of a new iPass to replace the one they "can't find" in the car. read more

So my first experience here ended with them telling me that I couldn't get a car because their safe was on the fritz. Fine. I came back later that day when they got it open and it ended up taking an hour for them to process my rental and get me into a car. Then when I brought my car back, again I was waiting for 40 min to be taken care of. I think it boils down to the process they take and the fact that they do not have enough staff. They take people and drop them off at their destination which is nice and convenient, but then don't have enough staff to back fill while they're gone. And for some reason it takes 20 min to get the car back from the car wash...I don't blame the workers. This is just a unorganized, poorly run location that needs some serious management. read more

There is No One in the Office! Two of the three times I called this location I spoke to rep at the Oak Brook location. Both times no one called me back even thought I was told they would. On the day of my repair at the body shop I called and the line was busy. A week before this they simply told me to call them when I was at the body shop and they would come right over . The Oak Brook rep told em they had been out of the office for over an hour even though they said they would be back in 20 minutes . I called enterprise and they used State Farm's reservation;otherwise I would have salt at the body shop waiting for someone to pick up or call me back. If I could give 0 stars or negative stars I would in this case. I am a single mother that had a family emergency in Illinois yet am from Florida. I went to Hertz to rent a vehicle, after reserving it a week prior and calling to confirm that I could use my bank debit/credit card without issues or hassles on the 15th of August and the reservation was for the 20th of August. Upon showing up they ask me for a CDP number, which I didn't need before but suddenly needed now. Well because I didn't have that (which was never mentioned whatsoever a week ago when I went over every detail) they refused to rent me the vehicle. I had the funds in hand to rent this vehicle and then some. My son needs to get home to start school. Upon raising a huge fit to the lady at the counter, showing her the payments for the vehicle insurance(already paid for) and the phone log of the call where I CLARIFIED that I could use me debit card "if the funds are readily available it will not be a problem Ma'am" that I was told. Two forms of identification which I had at the time with no issues... they still refused to rent me the vehicle and thus caused two customers to offer their credit cards to help me. In which I told them I would transfer over the necessary funds to them immediately (because I had them on hand) yet the lady at the counter was adamant to say that it would've been fraud if they did so yet... they asked if a friend of mine had a credit card and was ready to offer the same thing without an issue. End result is I can not get home with my son and they lost three customers whom walked out after the strife because they wouldn't honor what they had told a single mother and caused more issue then was needed. My opinion, Rental companies, if proven your identity, should allow debit through your band debit/credit card or at the very least tell the truth to their customers. read more

I had an absolutely terrible experience with this location. My insurance company set me up with a rental car here. After verbally denying all optional services, they described that a credit card was needed and a hold would be put on it, but it all would be refunded after the vehicle was returned since insurance paid for the rental. No harm there as that is the same as if you were in a hotel and pre-paid. They ended up sneaking in an additional service on the contract, and my card was charged for it. In all reality, I want to believe that this was just a mistake by the representative. When I tried to resolve it (before the contract was closed out), I was strung along by the team at this location for a week an a half with no follow up. During my final visit here, the representative at the desk even agreed that I was receiving terrible customer service, assured me that I would receive a proper call back after this, and there was still no contact from her or the area manager as promised. I followed all the proper procedures that the Hertz policy on this matter dictated, but eventually was fed up and just opened a case with my credit card company directly to dispute the charge. Regardless if this was an unethical practice by the location to boost revenue, or an innocent mistake that was made, the business practices displayed here were deplorable. First of all, the employees told us that it would take an hour to be served. Upon arriving, the desk attendant did not give me service for about 10 minutes. After being helped, a customer who had been here before I arrived voiced his discontent with the service because he had been waiting so long. Instead of de-escalating the situation, the employees threatened to call the police. All in all, spent over 45 minutes to rent a car, after calling ahead about 30 minutes or more prior. After my van was totaled by a teen driver, State Farm directed me to this Hertz location for a temporary rental. The rental office is located inside the Sunrise Chevy car dealership sales floor and can be accessed from the east side of the building. I called ahead to be sure that someone was going to be at the desk and when I arrived. The person at the desk was friendly and helpful and had the car all set to go. The whole process was maybe 7 minutes long. When I returned the car 10 days later, I dropped it off after hours and put the keys in the drop box. I realized early the next morning that I had left my personal key ring attached! When I called about it at 7:36 am, the person who answered was just in the process of calling me to let me know she'd found them and would have them waiting for me whenever I got up there. All in all the the whole rental process was a pleasant experience at this location. read more

I rented a vehicle 3/7/19 around 6pm from 414 E N Ave, Glendale Heights, IL 60139 location. The woman behind the desk had very poor customer skills, she was mumbling - she sat behind the desk and spoke to the wall and I could barely hear what she was saying, I asked her to please repeat what she said and to also speak up, she only repeated a small portion of what she said, her attitude was very distasteful and dismissive. This office is a shared location with another business that was playing music in the background which made it a little difficult to hear. She never discussed the return policy of the vehicle and forgot to mention this location is closed on Sunday so I was automatically charged for an additional day. She also failed to mention the after hours drop box. I believe she was filling in from another location but it seems as if she worked this location in the past (got this info. from the conversation she had with another customer), who surprisingly she stood up and stepped out in the lobby to have a loud, mundane conversation with. I would never rent from Hertz again, this was my first and last time. I would give 0 stars! read more
