I was greeted by Vickie. She attended to me immediately and answered all of my questions especially regarding the insurance requirements. I was concerned that I might get a "junky" car since I was trying to rent a car TWO DAYS BEFORE the start of the Labor Day holiday weekend. I needed a vehicle to get to an upcoming housewarming party that had been planned for two days later. The car was a late-model Nissan Sentra which gave me the opportunity to try out some features that my current vehicle does not have. I LOVED the push-button ignition and rear-camera display! It will be something that I will look for in my new car. The return was easy AND quick. Vickie was not on duty, but the franchise owner was also efficient and helpful. originally rented a 7-seater from Budget, but they called the night before to tell me they didn't have any cars (why let me reserve if you don't have the vehicle?). I then switched to Avis (not realizing they're the same company and in the same location). I called them after reserving online and they assured me they had the 7-seat vehicle I needed, but when I arrived today, of course no vehicles available, and I'm left scrambling to find a solution. Got a call the day before my rental saying that the car would be at least 1.5 hours late and to call before coming to pick up the car. No number left. The listed number often connects to Avis's general customer service number, which will tell you they have a car waiting for you. They do not. When I finally got connected with the location, I was told it would be at least another 2 hours late. Eventually got the car and it was mostly fine, but don't book here if you don't have a flexible schedule. read more

Absolutely garbage experience. Firstly, my booking started at 8am, which is when the store is supposed to open. They leisurely strolled in at like 8 20. There were other customers waiting as well. They do not value anyone's time. They also do not allow parking your car there while you use the rental. They also tried to cheat and fleece me in my opinion. The car was reserved by my sister using her corporate discount leisure code. This code is explicitly meant to be used for non-business purposes and family members are allowed to use it. After strolling in 20 minutes into my booking, and when we're setting up the paperwork, he asks me for proof of employment at the company. I make it clear that the reservation was made by my sister and she's not present at the moment, However I can get her proof of employment in a bit once I contact her. The guy says that's fine if i can show that when i drop the car off, otherwise he would charge me the non discounted amount. I asked him specifically what the non discounted amount would be but he didn't give me a response. When I returned the car, I showed him my sister's ID, and he started accusing me of committing fraud. that I was illegally using someone else's discount code for my own purposes. to make it clear, the code we used was a leisure code that can be used by family members. We cleared it up with Avis later on, however this man was adamant that we were doing something illegal and was gonna charge us $150 for the minivan that we rented. (a number that he was suspiciously unwilling to give that morning). he claimed that's the "normal price" for the minivan. This is another blatant lie. You can go to the avis website right now and see for yourself that you can rent the van for $114 or $104 if you prepay. I think the $150 number was completely made up by him and he was basically using legal jargon to try and frighten us into paying whatever bogus amount he wanted from us. After huffing and fuming about our illegal activity, when i said i wanted to leave and i wanted a bill, he took another 15 minutes to get a bill ready. no doubt trying to find every single thing he could upcharge us for. We called avis later on and explained the situation and they agreed to refund the charge that this man tried to steal from us. This is the best evidence i have that the man running the counter was lying to us about the "illegal activity" and "fraud". They confirmed that the use of the code was valid and they agreed to only charge me the $63 which was the original booking price with the code. I would highly recommend that if you absolutely have to use Avis/Budget, go to a different location and stay away from this trash dump of a franchise. read more

I scheduled my rental through my work portal several days in advance for a intermediate class car. I chose this location because it was open on Sunday and I needed to go out of town for work. When I arrived, there were two people ahead of me. The staff at the front desk were sending the customers to Naperville location because they had their class of vehicle. The one couple did not want to go to Naperville and were charged an upcharge then. I was not about to drive to Naperville as it was out of my way. They offered to put me in a larger vehicle, but same thing, I would need to pay an upcharge. I ended up cancelling my car rental. Thankfully I have a reliable car that I was able to travel on my work trip. As other reviewers have stated, what is the purpose of booking in advance if they would not have cars available. If they saw there were registered customers, why did they not go to Naperville and pick up the cars ahead of time. The staff did attempt to call another budget that was on my way I needed to travel, but due to it being a Sunday, they were closed. I will not be returning to this location. read more

Do not rent from this ripoff joint. They accused me of having a dog in the car because there was " an excessive amount of hair" in the car and wanted me to clean the car at my expense because they don't have a vacuum at their facility. Their poor staffing of equipment is not my problem or my issue. That's theirs. Needless to say there was no dog in the car. Or cat. Or any animal other than three human beings. They offered me two solutions to this problem. The first was pay a $250 cleaning fee. Outrageous. The second was to go to the car wash and vacuum it at my expense. Neither option is acceptable. So I offered a third option. I would vacuum their rental car at the car wash and they would give me the money for it. That they rejected. Stupidly. A company that actually took responsibility for staffing their facility with people and equipment sufficient to support their effort and take care of the customer reasonably would have was lot done that. Why a customer should have e to clean a car that has a normal amount of human - not animal - hair in it after driving a week is beyond me. But I do know there are plenty of options available to me. And to you. Do not rent from these clowns. read more

First time I left my car in there parking lot in d front and pick up there car on Tuesday Evening may 3rd and today I drop there car back and drive my car from there parking lot.15 minutes later I come to knw I have a RAT in my car that came from there parking lot bcoz there parking lot is so dirty and bushy. STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION!! I came there to pickup at car (supposed to be at 11:30). I got there a bit early like 11am. I found a locked door saying "will be back soon, call me at 630-...-...." I called almost 10 times, no answer... A lady finally arrived, not even apologized, didn't really care. Her pants belt was open, her belly was out, her breath smelled horrible like she just had tons of vodka shots... She was just rude... When she read my driving license, she asked me if 2009 was my birth date... No ma'am, this is the insurance date, I'm not 7 years old...! Then she said "I don't have your car but I have another category, I have to charge you an extra for that though." Great... Seriously, worst place ever!!! Her name is Vickie! read more

They take the time to service each customer to make it a pleasant experience. Weekends are busy so ensure you allow extra time for pick up or drop off. What's the point of a reservation? Apparently, there is no point at the DG Avis. Exactly like the Seinfeld episode, I walk in with a Reservation, they have at least 5 cars "available", but the agent could not give me any car. Even though the place was closing in 20 minutes and all the cars would just sit there overnight, they could not give me a car. Even though I got dropped off there an had no ride they could not give me one of the 5 cars. Even though I offered to pay extra for an upgrade they could not give me a car. Even though I just completed a weekly rental and returned it 2 days before and the same car was right there, they could not give me a car. The agent was too young to even get the Seinfeld reference but even if he had, I don't think he had the capacity to see the similarity. At my request, the manager who I had the misfortune of dealing with on my first rental was called and only said the same thing, "there is nothing we can do". Both of the people who work here appear to be unemployable in any other capacity. The only reason to go to this Avis is the convenience of the location. But even that turned out to be an illusion. If you rent from this Avis, before you even get the car be prepared to be lectured on not leaving "q-tips" in the car (they actually told me that). But more importantly, make sure your ride doesn't leave before you get the car because there seems to be a 50-50 chance they won't honor your reservation. read more

Actually rented through Budget at this location. Love the rapid registration that this company offers, as well as when I arrived I was literally out and in my car with a swipe of my credit card. Vickie, the CSR was extremely helpful and efficient, even as she multi-tasked behind the desk! I now remember why budget and this office is reason to come back! read more

A tip for Downers Grove renters: don't go here, go right next door to Enterprise. I just had my third encounter with the same incredibly unfriendly and unhelpful person here; unfortunately I believe he may be the owner or manager. I understand that there can be problems with overbooking or with not having a car ready by a certain time, and I'm more than willing to be flexible and understanding in that regard. But I do also expect a bare minimum level of customer service and politeness. That's not what you'll find here. Each time I have had a problem with Avis (note: Budget is the same operation here), I went next door to Enterprise and they immediately helped me in a gracious and polite way. I don't know why it has taken me so long to learn my lesson and go directly to them instead. For what it's worth, I rent a car each week Mon-Fri or Sun-Sat for work. Apparently the gentleman at Avis is not only unconcerned with customer service but also with customer loyalty and his bottom line. read more

Worst! Didn't have anything remotely resembling the vehicle I reserved online. Never called to tell me. I made the trip to their office, only to find the ONLY vehicle available was a minivan (nowhere near the vehicle I reserved) with no video backup camera. They said it was an "upgrade." I tried to be reasonable about this, but am still waiting for complete refund of online payment. Just a ridiculous situation and a terrible franchisee with which to do business. DO NOT commit to renting from this location unless you want to lose deposit money, due to their and Avis's nefarious and duplicitous business practices. read more

Got a ride from my hotel and when I got there the car wash guy said the counter person and only one available to rent the car had left and should be back in 20-30 min. The Avis location on Ogden in Downers Grove is by far the best service anyone could ask for. It's because of Vicky. Her costumer service is outstanding and she makes one feel as if they are her one and only costumer. Very bad service, no customer service skills at all. Car was not ready and it was defective. Drove over 500 miles and turns I can't take out the key, because the car had a major electrical problem. Called up the company and told me to go to another location to pick up another car ( which was way out of my route). Seriously ????????!?!?!?!?!?!Thank you Avis for ruining my road trip, ruining my time off from work. This place is a joke, and this company is a joke. Went in to rent a mini van for a family vacation. They told me with a debit card I would need to have a soft credit check. However I was not worried because I have a high credit score. Went in and got denied! When I contacted Avis customer service they told me that they have criteria that they can not disclose to the public! I called the credit report system that they use and they told me to contact Avis. I still did not receive an answer as to why I was denied. Apparently they only rent to customers with credit cards is what I'm thinking since NO ONE could answer my question. If there was a 0 star rating they would receive it! read more

This is the single worst retail experience I have ever encountered. The clowns behind the desk had the brain power of retards. Poor customer service, no car ready, then canceled my reservation because of a "holiday", car was dirty, car had no wiper fluid, cars license plates were expired and then had the balls to charge me a $250 cleaning fee because of a small spec of pet hair. Rude, obnoxious, no one knew how to use the computer system and list goes on. The ONLY reason I gave this one star was because you can't give 0 stars. Although I was almost swayed by the bad reviews, I was pleasantly surprised at the nice and welcoming demeanor of the Customer Care Coordinator, David. He greeted me warmly and worked with me to ensure I received just what I needed. This location is under new management and I commend David for his hard work in improving customer service.
