The employee told me they didn't have the car and that my only option was to pay more for a pricier model. So while still at the same location, I even booked the "Wild Card/Manager's Special" on Booking.com, which clearly states you'll get any available car at the economy rate. She still refused to honor that as well and said the only option available once again is to upsell me. This is directly against both Hertz's advertised policy and normal rental practices. We canceled and went to another company. I would avoid this location -- they do not honor reservations or their own guarantees. read more

I had an excellent experience at Hertz in Manteca with Miriam. The reservation process was easy, the SUV was clean and in great condition, and pickup and drop-off were quick and hassle-free. Update to my initial 5 star review. After driving in the car with the windows down and buying 3 air fresheners I was still not able to get the menthol cigarettes smell out! I'm usually not sensitive to smell but this was so bad that my clothes started to smell like cigarettes too. I had the windows down for a total of four days. When I mentioned this after dropping the car off they didn't seem to care at all. I definitely returned the car in better shape then I found it since now it smells like pink grapefruit and orange blossom. read more

I had a bad experience with this rental location. I was told that I could leave the rental car with the body shop when my car was repaired. I rented the car on November 11th and left it at the body shop on the 13th. The body shop then contacted the Hertz to pickup the rental vehicle and they didn't show up to pick it up until the 14th. They then charged me for 4 days instead of 3. I tried to get this rectified with the home office but they refused to credit me. If you have a chance to pick between this rental agency or another, please pick the other! read more

Rented a vehicle for a road trip via online. the only vehicle they had was a Chevy volt electric. Assuming it was a dual fuel, because we all know that these vehicles take at the minimum one hour to charge and 4 hours if hooked up at home ( if you have the right set up). called back 30 minutes after realizing no electric charging stations were near by that were operational. The branch manager said " I told you it was electric" well " I told you I was going on a road trip". No enthusiasm or eagerness to help, only a whole bunch of attitude. Booked our reservation with Enterprise via Travelocity when planning a visit to Manteca from Phoenix. We did not see anything that stated we could not use a debit card if we were not local residents. Found ourselves in another state with no means of transportation. Thankfully Hertz does not require a credit card so we were able to reserve a vehicle through hotwire. We just had to pay a 200.00 deposit which we were prepared to do with Enterprise. Hertz also gave us a discount because our insurance is with Statefarm so we saved 10%! Our rental was a Hyundai Elantra, very comfortable althought the car still had some trash in it from the previous renter we were just happy we got a vehicle! read more

I was trying to extend a reservation on Tuesday 06/15/21 and was told I was going to receive a call back on 6/16/21. since I did not get a call back and it was already 3:20pm, I decided to call to check on my request. Reserved a car online. It wasn't through hertz but I have rented that way before. I get there they don't have my reservation they say. Then they look it up and say ok there going to get my car. Why does my rental receipt show they are open on Saturday but no one is answering the phones? Called 1-800 customer service number and they say I have to go down in person to fix a problem with my rental (because it's thru insurance). WTF !!! The worst experience I have ever had with a place of business. I needed a car for a couple days due to my own car getting worked on. I was recommended by AAA and got a free day through them. When I got there at the end of the day Serina told me that the car they were going to give me needed an oil change and that the only car they had was going to cost me $25.00 a day more. She was rude about it and told me because I reserved it on Friday after hours they would not work with me on it. By the way AAA was the one that reserved it for me. Elizabeth ended up contacting her manager and waved the $25.00 a day (no thanks to Serina). I had to wait for the car to be washed because the driver quit on them. Elizabeth had to wash it by hand the best she could, but the car was still very dirty. I rented it for one day and returned it, but the problem was that my son put 2 very nice schooters in the truck and left them there when I returned the car. When I called Hertz to get the schooters back Elizabeth said, "oh yes, I do believe we have them, but let me call you right back." I never got a call back, so I called and talked to the manager. She told me they did not find them. She was very rude and told me that she didn't know who cleaned the car out and that they have a shared space and leave things out. She told me to call the 800 number to report a lost item (why do I need to do that when someone took them). I know we left them in the truck and I know they had them. Someone obviously took them from Hertz and didn't want to admit to it. If I could give a 0 score I would. I called ahead. I made a 930 appointment to get picked up after dropping off my car for repairs. They didn't show up until 945. No one offered to help me unload my things from my car. The drive to the office was quiet and awkward. Then after signing a couple of papers I've been sitting in the waiting room for almost an hour while they "clean" the car. Would be a zero but Yelp doesn't allow that. I had to drive to San Jose on Monday morning (Monday morning commute traffic; therefore a 2+ hour drive). I would have rented the car Sunday but, they aren't open on Sunday, so I ordered a car for 8:00 am Monday with pickup. I did that over their app. I called at 7:30, when they opened, to verify the pickup time, and was immediately put on hold. At 7:45 I hung up and redialed. I got the same woman who wanted to put me on hold again. I said "NO" and tried to ask her if and when I would be picked up. She continually talked and wouldn't let me talk. When she finally stopped talking, I.asked and was told that the driver come in at 8 am so It would be later than that. I was picked up at 8:25 (I am five minutes away) and did the paperwork at 8:34. I was the only customer in the office at the time. I was them directed to the lobby to wait while the car was cleaned! After being a 15 year customer with Enterprise,. And several of those years as a platinum member, I decided after several issues at the Manteca Enterprise location to try Hertz. It was excellent, a smooth process and great customer service. No hassles, no same questions everytime and they knew what they were doing. I've already reserved 3 separate days in advance. I'm not sorry about leaving Enterprise, however they did have a couple of people that really knew their jobs. But it was time to change. I will never set my feet in here again. If I can give a negative star, I would not hesitate to do it. It is my second attempt to rent a car at Hertz - Manteca location on Yosemite. The first time was not great either. They had me waited for more than 1 hour for my two weeks reserved ahead car to be ready. However, I still gave it a second try. I reserved my car to go to LA for two weeks ahead again. My reservation is with an intermediate SUV type of vehicles such as Nissan Rouge or similar. I bought the free of mind insurance for 17.99$ at the time I reserved it. Coming to the center, I figured out that they had decided to upgrade me to the GMC SUV and charge me 29.99$/day for the insurance instead of 17.99$. It is their arrangement, not my intention or wish to do so. Acknowledging the difference in the amount of money, I notified the front desk worker, and she told me that they currently did not have the type of car I reserved. Well, I booked online two weeks ago, and the website indicated that Hertz had it in this specific center. If there is a lack of the car type I requested, it should not take you two weeks, until I come to pick up the car and you quietly charge me extra money. You should notify me a week so that I can have a better arrangement for myself. Even if they decided to upgrade me to a higher level car, it is their own decision and considered that it is a free upgrade. The lady keeps saying that it's a different car, so the price is different. Thank you, I know it is a different car, but I did not reserve for it. She seems not to understand the point here. I don't have much time, and it was late for my trip, already 4 pm so I told them directly that I would pay the stupid money for them this time and only this time, never come back to Hertz, and they will receive a terrible review on Yelp. The ladies did not even look at me in the eyes; they put the keys on the table. I needed to run fast or else; it will be too dark for me to surpass the whole 350 miles to LA. I guess customer service is dead in this day. When taken outside to go over the car first thing I notice is the car is dripping wet from the quick spray they attendant did while I was checking out. The car was dirty and I explained that once the water dried the car will be even more dirty. She rattled off some about only having a bucket with water and that it had thick dirty on it prior. I complained about the inconvenience it causes to have to go and wash the car myself being that the reason people rent cars is to satisfy plans we may have. She said they were going to call me and tell me something about the car...??? (Who knows??) it was defensive BS. I told her if I take the car to was I'd have to be reimbursed for it because the car should be clean inside out.. the inside was dirty also. She said she'd get the manager whom btw was out back spraying the car that rented behind me. I met the manager whom I explained the car situation to knowing she'd already been briefed and also knowing she'd seen this car go out because as the attendant mentioned help her clean the car. The manager tried to tell me that the car didn't look dirty to her and that this is how they rent out cars all the time . The windows the rims the roof the mirrors everywhere had dirt the inside had visible dirt and water marks from a dirty wash cloth. I mentioned that if I had to clean my own rental I'd expect to be compensated she told me that , that would be my own decision to wash the car but they would compensate me .. but numerous times she told me that she'd cancel my rental if i wasn't satisfied. ??? Is this the service paying customers get . I have pics.... I was told either take or cancel . Was also told they don't have access to a real car was .. there is 2 up the block. And a total of 6-7 people in the office. I don't think either of them would accept even their personal car in this condition. read more

Disappointing overall! I don't understand how you have a rental car business as large as Hertz and have two cars to choose from both which are NOT what was reserved! The very least a company this large can do is have some kind of variety of the cars the same size. I'm giving 1 Star because by default that's the lowest score you can give. I rented a car for a week long trip to LA, pick up time was noon and when I get there guess what they close at noon. Why would this be an option if the same time you have a pick up you also close. Don't you have a manifest of your reservations for the day pretty sure you have my number. Hey FYI your pick up is at noon but we close at noon feel free to be here 30 minutes early not a problem. But from prior experience getting there early doesn't help either because your pick up time is not till noon. Basically didn't care at all we already clocked out go f yourself basically. That's why there's so many empty businesses in Manteca it's not the foot traffic it's the lackluster business, employees and customer service. read more
