My actual experience was good but that was due to the app. I highly suggest EVERYONE use the app! Everyone before me seemed to have issues. This isn't the greatest location either. The morning I dropped the car off, there was another of their cars sitting there without the rims and tires. They should really consider relocating to the Auto Center where the other rental car companies are at. I been there twice iv been charged for smoking in the car in I dont smoke..I told the front desk girl that we rented a 2023 jeep wrangler from them for 3weeks.. the car had transmission problems and almost in the same day cost me and my frends they life.the car shut down on the i5 and we couldn't merge over 4 times I took the car back stated what had happened and she said yeah we gotta send them all back its a recall thank you for coming..no compensation offered nothing..only a bill for 450 for smoking when everytime I bring cars back there fully detailed..but go on your own risk book on priceline or you will be bookek..lol read more

They sent my husband to collections claiming we damaged a truck we rented in the summer of 2023... mind you they sent us ZERO bills, no phone calls, no emails. Straight to collections. We did NOT damage the truck. All dents and dings were accounted for before and after we rented. The collection agent took a look and realized the damage was reported after the mileage had gone up significantly after we returned the truck. Either Avis/Budget "forgot" about the original damage or a subsequent renter damaged it and they decided to send us to collections over it. Now my husband has to work to get the debt discharged. Do not rent from this place ever! 1) the service is terrible 2) you will be waiting at least an hour to pick up your rental 3) MONTHS later you will be charged bogus charges. We are being charged for lost keys for a vehicle that was rented 6 months ago. The vehicle was returned and inspected and there was never any mention anything was wrong or missing. The car was driven back to be turned in, how was it driven back without the keys? 4) it will take over an hour to return the car. 5) you won't get the car you selected when reserving the rental. Horrible experience. I had call to extend my rental for 1 day because I was not going to make the return time. The guy I talked to that day did not input it and I got charged late fee. Also, I got charged fuel service fee but I return the car back with the same fuel level. Wheel balance was off and caused steering wheel to shake throughout the duration of my rental time. Service SUCKS. The guy has no sense of urgency what's so ever, takes his sweet time helping customers, he even starts doing random things in the middle of helping customers. Disappeared for 11 minutes while 5 people were waiting in line, went outside to see where he went but he was just doing random things in the little cleaning garage while we all waited and then came back to discuss insurance options like we weren't all waiting while he did stuff that could wait. What is wrong with this place ? They don't answer the phone all day during normal business hours.

BEWARE!! I have been overcharge twice by this location the first time they credited the overcharge back to me the second time they will not. I was charged $200 for pet hair in the car, we NEVER had any animals in the vehicle. Since it has happened 100% of the time I have rented from them, I think it is a much bigger problem than an "accidental" overcharge. The manager Zahi is unhelpful, the corporate office offered me $40. Avis seems unaware and uncaring of the deceit happening at this location. I have disputed the charge with my credit card company and documented my calls for a formal complaint to the corporate office and any regulatory agency I can find. The staff here is the reason I keep coming back. I rent cars for work travel quite a bit and I have never had an issue renting here. I'm always greeted with a smile and given a car that is clean. If there was something wrong with the car (low tires, etc), they go above and beyond to exchange the car for me. Oh my God! Never will I ever use this location to rent a car. They gave my friend the runaround. Then I tried to return the keys for my friend at about 1:15pm on a Saturday, but they would not take them! The Avis employee (who said his name was "Avis") was extremely rude. I told him the car is already back on the lot. It was parked right in front of the door. I told him I was just dropping off the keys for my friend. He refused to take them saying they were closed at 1:00pm on Saturday--instead of 1:30- because of COVID (they are open til 3:00 pm weekdays) and had done all the inventory already for the day. He said I would have to come back on Monday after 8am. I told him I have to be at work at 7am on Monday and there is no way I will be able to drop off the keys on Monday. I told him, "why can I not drop off these keys now, and you can inventory them on Monday?" He still refused. So I left, infuriated. I turned around and went back, however and told him I would leave the keys in the rental car, under the seat, and then lock up the car. I told him that way, he could inventory it whenever he chose to do so. He finally opened the door and took the keys from me. This place is a joke. The people are rude. The cars are not clean. I had a reservation and I did not and will not rent from here. GHETOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I walked in here to rent a car for the week while mine was in the shop. A man greeted me and asked if I had a reservation, I said yes. He then pawned me off to this other lady (here comes the problem). He gave her 3 sets of car keys and tells her to help me. She said that all the cars aren't cleaned yet. OMG now it all makes sense! Coming to yelp and finding 2 1/2 stars makes absolute sense. I went there to return a car my brother which doesn't speak english rented at Avis the night before. After getting stuck on a $207 a day agreement for a toyota, I tried talking to them about doing something to get it cheaper since it was a steal to pay that much for what it was a less than 24 hour deal. One of the guys was nice trying to explain, but right away another old guy, maybe middle eastern man, came with a horrible attitude saying that the price was normal. I was surprised he said $207 a day for a toyota was normal and I asked him if he made $30k a month to make that statement. $207 a day is more than $6k a month for a car!! Whatta joke!! He said I make $100k a year, and I responded "if you make that much money (which I seriously doubt) you should be fire for the horrible customer service you offer. I am not talking about the price of the car, I am talking about his attitude behind the desk. Instead of helping us he was rude an inappropriate. The Avis in Stockton is by far best overall car and truck rental business in town. They're so convenient for me whenever I need a rental, and always quick and efficient. Zahi is super friendly, & he can be so funny, customers call him "Mr. Avis." without even knowing his real name. Their cars are shiny and clean, & not to mention they have the nicest selection. Had to rent a truck to Tahoe and got the newest cleanest F150, and I've also been placed in a Camaro & a sweet Cadillac CTS to drive around in for a weekend. Be sure to make a reservation if you can ahead of time, they have the best rates in Stockton. Will definitely continue to rent from them. read more

I returned the rental car and filled out the paperwork correctly. The lady said everything was fine. On my way home I happen to look at the final bill. It had extra charges. So I called the main number. He told me if I don't have proof I couldn't get my money back. My husband and I went back to the rental place. The lady was nice she told me she didn't know why they charge me. She had check the car it was full of gas. She took the charges off. Then late last night I get any email from Avis stated that their investigation was correct and they would be charging me the fueling charge. I rent every three weeks, after my car broke down, it was too expensive to buy a new car for the five day round trip to Vegas and back, I'm retired and like to spend my money in the casino, not getting there. The Enterprise and Hertz rental locations there were trying to gouge me like crazy, but the older gentleman there gave me a deal on my rental instead of trying to take advantage of my need of a car. I give this location a 5/5 because I am always taken care of, with friendly service and because the management there run a tight ship about pricing and policies. I've seen some people get declined because they come in with debit cards and do not have good credit. To the people who are complaining. 1. There is a credit check! Only because the corporation wants to make sure that they will get their car back and if they don't they want to know if your financial situation is too risky to rely on to pay for a replacement car if it gets stolen, wrecked or you keep the car overdue (and lets be serious, we are talking about Stockton, Ca. not Beverly Hills, Ca.) There are some shady people, and I wouldn't be surprised. So. If you have bad credit, don't complain because your credit is too low to be loaned a $30,000 car. It's not a Hollywood Video, and you see how well that went for them. IMPORTANT If you don't have credit, do what I did and rent on a CREDIT CARD! It was so easy, and there is NO CREDIT CHECK WITH A CREDIT CARD! So get with the program people. 2. , When the employees are busy with customers, don't expect to get your call answered by them, instead you can get routed to the 1800 line after a few rings, and speak to a live person, not a machine. So pretending that you called 6 times and didn't get any service is misleading and a downright lie. How would you feel if the person at the counter interrupted you to answer a phone and talk to someone else? I would be furious if they took that call. Instead they allow 1800 to talk to you and make a reservation. 3. The management here is really nice, anyone else will agree. I asked if my wife could pay with her credit card but she was in Nevada, and I had the credit card number, but how would they know it was her card and not someone else's that may have been stolen, and then rent out a $30,000 dollar car on the assumption that I'm telling the truth? I wouldn't and don't expect a corporation to either. 4. Policy is policy, these people that work here do not make the policy, they enforce it because they HAVE to, to keep their jobs. So expecting that you can rent a car with some numbers you scribbled on a piece of paper saying it's your credit card information is just as crazy as thinking you can buy a car with that. Wise up people, the corporation is a business, and they make the rules, you follow them or you can't rent. Developing an attitude because you can't get with the program is not a fault on the company, it's a fault with your personality. To finish off, I made a wizard number and now am getting emails for discounts because I have AAA auto insurance, and weekend specials. Great service from the start. The main man (i forgot his name) helped me and started a conversation with me. Didnt pressure me into getting anything EXTRA. Car i received was a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. It was great for our ride to vegas from stockton with our 3 kids. The car was clean and saved us tons of gas. Return the car and when returning to my car the battery died and they took time out to help me jump start my car. Awesome. For that I will definitely return. Great customer service. read more

What is the point of a reservation if you don't have the truck I reserved? I made a reservation for a 16' moving truck from Budget 10 days in advance. When I arrived at this location, I was told they did not have a 16' truck for me. The owner did not seem very concerned with situation and continued to take bites of his lunch while walking between offices and on his cellphone trying to track down a truck for me. They asked if I would take 12' truck instead. I agreed to, if it had a loading ramp since we were moving appliances. He 'thought' that they had a ramp. We looked in the parking lot, they did not have ramps. He then got back on the phone and argued you with a guy on the phone about getting a truck here with a ramp. They then asked if I could bring the truck back to Stockton the very next day. I told him I had reserved a truck to go ONE WAY to Oakland. It would be very difficult to drive all the way back. He offered to give me a large discount on the rental. I considered the offer, but then realized I would have to pay double gas and double insurance on the truck. By this point - I had spent more than 1 HOUR at this particular location and the truck still had not arrived. I told him this was unacceptable and would like to cancel my reservation. Overall, they seemed very unsympathetic to the situation they created by not being prepared for my reservation. While waiting for my truck to magically appear, I witnessed employees blaming "corporate" for mistakes with other customers rather than taking any responsibility. read more

I went to this business on 10/16/18 at 9:30 am. I was with a friend who was returning a car that he had extended for one day. They charged him double rate for one day extra and also a $10 extension fee. I complained because they did not inform us of these charges when the vehicle was rented.. The conversation got heated and then the gentleman behind the desk pulled out a taser and said "get the f...k out or I am going to tase you" Wow unbelievable. There are cameras in this business. Found out that my car was going to be delayed through the weekend at my mechanic's shop, I decided to grab a rental so I would not be without wheels for the entire weekend. I decided to look on Hotwire to find a good deal on a rental, they presented me with a reservation for Avis. I've always used Hertz, but decided to give Avis a try. I booked and got a friend to give me a lift to the Avis office. I presented my check card and ID, only to find out that they run credit checks. Would have been nice to know that beforehand! I don't blame this on the local office, but walking home wasn't very much fun. I will stick with Hertz in the future. read more

I am giving 2 stars because of PAST experience renting at Avis, But recently, Avis began demanding a credit check report from customers paying with Debit Cards, This amounts to CLASS discrimination. I am on social security and do not even want a credit card, and if I did have a credit card, I don't want to pay the interest, just to rent a car. 2) a low credit score means nothing, it does not mean you are a bad driver, or incapable of being trusted. A few business disputes can give you a bad report ! It should not be this hard to rent a car! What happened to customer service? The American public does not like international business practices that tells customers " you are not worth our time!" The manger like would rather argue with you and tell you why your wrong that resolve your issue. They are not accommodating and good luck resolving any issue you may have. They just refer you to the Avis customer 800 number and tell you that they can't do anything because Harold Brown already made the decision to charge you for an extra day even though you turned in the car. They don't care about retaining their customers just hiding behind their policy. "We'll that's our policy Sir" and arguing with you. First off; Yelp coupon is useless as it provides no coupon code. Store hours are skimpy, which complicates things. I reserved an intermediate car Saturday afternoon at the website. it told me "sure we have one for you". Arrived Sunday morning for the car (was about only thing open Sunday for car rentals). I had arrived early, and was waiting out front patiently. Gentleman opening up told me to come on in early (much appreciated). Store was clean (and somewhat barren). Of course only cars there were a Crown Victoria (not intermediate) and a Mustang (I didn't ask for a sport car either). Sigh, take mustang, same MPG, smaller car. Guy then sends me out solo to do the lookover.. on a dirty black mustang. As if I can really see anything. Service reps should be walking it with you, as they should know the cars at least somewhat and help guide you to existing damage. When I returned the car, a different gentleman working pretty much sent me out solo to do walkaround and mileage log. Again, failure. The experience was not confidence inspiriing. Avis' return policy is really inconveinient and irritating; Car has to be returned by EXACTLY the same time of day it was taken out. So if you had to pick one up early one day, but can't manage to return it as early because you need a ride home (yep, they do not give rides to store or home) you have to pay for another whole day. read more

We have rented from this business for the last 2 yrs both business and pleasure. We have been there when it is busy and when its not. Zahi has never been rude! He treats everybody equal with a smile and always asking "how are you?"when you come in .Zahi takes his time explaining everything asking if you have any questions before releasing the vehicle never rushing you. We have been there when he has had hostile people inside and heard of a incident where he was attacked {by 2 homeless people} yet managed to conduct business after wards without losing a single customer! The way he handles things is amazing Zahi has the patience of an angel never revealing any anger he can defuse a situation in a matter of minutes. .These people that write that he would not accommodate them on a charge or credit does not know how a business is run he has rules from the corporate office what is on the computer he has to abide by if he took the time to call every problem in to corporate office nobody would get their car! As for the time it takes. it take no longer then at any other rental place at least here you don't have to give your name only to be told to have a seat Zahi knows when you walk in and when you leave. The one positive thing from renting from here is you get someone that wants to please you and wears a smile when you approach and when you leave no matter how many people are behind you! Not many places in Stockton offer one-ways.. I needed a car to get me home to San Diego. Last minute Avis had a car for me. I called for a reservation and 10 min later I was down at the shop with a car. I got lucky, even scored a 2012 Ford Focus. Which turned out to be a good, comfortable drive.
