I'm not sure if this is a real rental car place. I see cars outside, but inside the store it is chaos. I had a reservation, but they don't have any cars for me. I don't understand why Hertz sent me to this location. The couple in front of me have been arguing over the model if the car. It's a rental car. You aren't buying it. Nearly 3 weeks ago I requested a rental through my insurance company while my vehicle was repaired at Abra. I reserved a standard size vehicle as I am 6'1" and 200lbs and spend a good amount of time in the car. I called Hertz twice including the day of to confirm my reservation and was assured it would be honored. Now I've been waiting for over an hour at Abra as Hertz tells me they can only accommodate me with a subcompact. This is entirely unacceptable. They should be ashamed of this customer service. And now they tried to haggle about picking me up. Pathetic. read more

We were excited to discover that we were given free french fries, but it was a bit odd that they were hidden under the drivers seat. Also, the tires were about as bald as a coconut. First car was a bit old, dirty, & dangerous. Second car was a lot nicer, cleaner, safer. We called them and they took care of us. They brought us another vehicle to our hotel and exchanged it. read more

I took my friend here to pick up his rental car. He was involved in an accident that wasn't his fault. They told us there was only 1 car available in his category. Then they told us that we had to wait for them to do an oil change on that 1 car. In my opinion that is completely unacceptable. The car was reserved. read more

I have rented from the hertz on Madison for many years. There's the nicest old guy that I adore because he's thorough and accommodating. Well, now I live out east and had to deal with hertz for two rental cars during the same week. I dealt with two different people and neither of them were as efficient as the little guy on Madison. My son had a reservation in his name through State Farm but needed a credit card. I was told that I was signing for a deposit but later on they said it was for insurance. My cc was billed $539.00 for insurance at $21.00 a day. Neither one of us was given a receipt and o thought that was okay because the insurance was paying for the rental. What I realized is that neither one of us were given a receipt because of the charges that were added. I have full coverage insurance and would not even consider paying an extra $500.00. Why would I after all these years decide to purchase extra insurance. Why didn't I purchase insurance on the other car that I rented that same week? They took advantage of my nineteen year old and took advantage of the fact that I wasn't there at the beginning of the process. In talking to the manager, he went from the charge was for a deposit to it was for insurance. Even when I got my receipt for my rental car, it said that I accepted Fpo and I was never told anything about this until I questioned this charge. It was for gas and I didn't have to bring it back with gas . Had that been explained to me I wouldn't have purchased a full tank of gas before returning. This place is the most unprofessional rental car company I have dealt with. The car I had was dirty, hub cap broken, all kinds of warning lights on and they had an excuse for everything. I see why they have no business and have to rent out ugly, raggedy cars. Stay away. I will take my business somewhere else were I want be scammed. STAY AWAY!!!! They deserves no stars but it wouldn't let me post without giving them at least one star. read more

My experience with Hertz Rent a Car leaves quite a lot to be desired. I waited for 45 minutes to be picked up. Once at Hertz, I waited for about 30 minutes before I was waited on. There were quite a few employees milling around but none willing to help or to get someone to help. My paperwork had been sent to another location causing further delay. The car I got was filthy. Yes the exterior was washed and no trash inside. The upholstery on driver's side was filthy with stains. I shudder to think what the stains were from. I felt dirty and grimy every time i got out of the car. I felt like I needed to be disinfected and clothes washed and sanitized. A previous renter of the car smoked and left cigarette ashes in a receptacle not intended to be used as an ash tray. I think one star is too good of a review. I will never use Hertz ever again. And have told everyone I know about my experience. read more

I had a reservation for the rental car and showed up an hour and a half late to pick it up, assuming that since I had previously reserved the car I could pick up AFTER the reservation time. When I picked the car up I was told I was too late and that they had rented out my car. I asked how soon after my reservation time they rent the car out from under me and they responded 15 minutes. They gave me a larger car that was available and charged me 30% more for it than my previous reserved car. If you have a reservation with Hertz you MUST pick it up within 15 minutes of the reservation time or they will rent the car out from under you and charge whatever they want for a larger car. I will definitely NOT be doing business with Hertz again and especially this location. With so many competitors I can't believe Hertz is still trying to screw their customers. read more

Rufus P. I recently rented from the Memphis Hertz location near Mt Moriah and had the worst experience I've ever had. After the familar rental process, I got inside my vehicle and noticed the overwhelming smell of marijuana inside the passenger compartment. I called and spoke with a representative who advised there were no other vehicle on the lot I could swap out with. At no point was there any effort made by the rep to contact another location to check for other possible available vehicles. When I return to the store and request a different vehicle in person, I greeted with a less than courteous attitude from the clerk and given a vehicle with 1/8 of a tank of gas. The same cleark also charged my credit car 3 seperate time but couldnt explain what the extra charges were for. Then upon reviewing my agreement, I was charged for premium roadside assistance. This coverage, which Ive always declined, was added to my agreement without my consent. When I told the clerk I did not want the coverage, I was told that it couldnt be take off and was not given a valid reason. This entire experience was pailed in comparison to my previous rentals. The sheer lack of unprofessionalism and courtesy I endured to make a rental the same way Ive done for over 10 years was absolutely unacceptable. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. TL;DR: DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ THEY WILL CHARGE YOU UNFAIRLY AND LIE TO CHARGE YOU MORE. Customer service was very friendly and helpful, but it has still taken over three weeks and multiple phone calls to get my money back. I was in a car accident that was not my fault, so I did not have much say in what car I received/where I got the car from since the other driver's insurances was handling that. Anyway, Hertz called me to let me know the car was ready for pick up. I arrive there 15 minutes later only to wait another hour and a half to actually pick up the car. The person finally let me know the car was ready, I walk outside and he hands me the keys and has be sing on his phone saying no pets no smoking...fine. I get into the car and to leave and it absolutely stinks of smoke. That is whatever, what can I do I am not paying for the car. Well, a week later and the car is due back on a saturday. I call the place I rented from and they tell me they are open from 10-6. I arrive around 12:30 and they are closed...apparently only the sales portion is open 10-6, rental is from 9-12 on Saturdays. I go to three different locations. All closed no after hours drop off. I call Hertz customer service and after about 30 minutes talk to someone who was helpful and told me a location that had after hours drop off -- about 30 minutes away. I return the car full tank of gas on saturday around 4:30. Finally done with that mess. Well, I get a call on monday saying that I am going to be charged 300 for smoking in the car and charged 40 for not returning the car till monday. I tell the women that I did not smoke in the car and that it was returned saturday. I am then told the only thing I could do is return it to the original store...not possible I am a school teacher and cannot just leave work. I call the original store multiple times to ask to speak with someone no call back. The store I returned to later called me and said that they talked to the manager of the store I rented from and he said that the care was perfect when I rented it. A blatant lie. I call hertz customer care and explain. They ask me if I called roadside assistance or tried to return the car. Finally they agreed to refund my card the full amount. A week later nothing. I call back and they apologise, and say something about the card hasn't processed yet but then they would refund the card and to wait about another week. A week later I was refunded a partial amount. I called and they apologised again and said they would refund the full amount and to wait another week. Hopefully I will have the full amount refunded soon. read more

My daughter was involved in a car accident and my insurance reserved a car for us at Hertz rental on a Thursday. We went to pick it up Sunday after church, but they were closed. Also closed Monday for MLK holiday. I called Tuesday morning to be sure they were open. I was told by the lady on the phone that she was with a customer and could I call back in ten minutes. Excuse me, but am I not a potential customer as well? I did call later in the day to let them know I was coming after work. On Tuesday, at 5:15pm, we were told there were no cars available to rent. The staff was so rude, it was shocking. I told them I had a confirmation number from State Farm and the girl actually said "What I'm gonna do with that if I ain't got no cars, it don't matter about your number." I referred to my previous phone calls and asked for the supervisor. Again I was told there weren't any cars, there weren't any cars. Well, after talking to the supervisor and mentioning I had spoken to her 3 days ago, a Toyota Corolla magically appeared!! It was parked by the front door when we got there. My experience was HORRIBLE. I called State Farm to tell them I would never use Hertz again. Those workers thought I was getting a car and they were ready to leave early that day. Terrible experience. I had a confirmed reservation for a minivan made with Hotwire. I showed the person the paper. My rental was for 2:00 and I arrived at 3:30. They told me that I was more then 30 minutes late and that they didn't have to hold the car. There were 2 other families there that also were complaining that their car was not there. They only offered a compact car they kept me there for 2 hours asking me to give them a minute. I tried to call hertz customer service line but gave up after 30 minutes on hold and called for an Uber. Hertz is not ethical and they have no concern for their customers. They do not deserve a single star. I was a 30 year customer but never again! Manager was requested and never spoke to me. read more
