HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE - I'd rate it ZERO but I cant select 0 stars. DID NOT GET THE CAR I PAID FOR - Rented a Standard SUV but was given a Small SUV (Ford Escape) CARS ARE NOT INSPECTED - my car had a service light for "oil change". When I informed them, they said it had an oil change but no one reset the service light. I am not sure if it was really done. I got pulled over and received a ticket for a headlamp that wasnt working. When I contacted Roadside assistance, I was told to fix it and send them the bill. Wasted time fixing a headlight for a rental car. UNKNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF - My car had a sticker that said its registration is expired. When I asked the staff, they said they can see its valid but wouldnt give me proof of registration. I was not comfortable driving a car which did not have any proof of registration so they asked me to go to another Hertz location as they were out of cars. I went to the JFK airport location and the staff informed me that the registration is permanent so does not need any proof. Its a Florida PM registration. How am I supposed to know? But I wasted 4 hours trying to understand this. If the staff was knowledgeable, i would have saved 4 hours of my trip. Overall, I spent more than 10 hours trying to understand an out of state registration and fixing a faulty headlight. Never ever renting with Hertz again.. read more

I'd rate my experience with Hertz 2.5 stars out of 5 I originally rented the vehicle through the Lyft app and that process was very simple & straight forward. No complaints In an emergency case, I had to extend the rental directly with hertz (not through Lyft) & this is where things stopped going smoothly After extending the rental with the same Hertz reps over the phone MULTIPLE TIMES (with & without Lyft), I was told that they could not extend the vehicle over the phone & to contact their billing line for this service.. Just to be referred back to the previous Hertz line for completion Hertz also has other untimely/inconsistent rules, being the in-person extensions/inspections. Where after a certain time period you must bring in the car to be looked at & to extend. This protocol would have made more sense to me if the extension/inspection cadence was clearly defined, if the car was actually + thoroughly inspected & if the rules were standard across all entities (Hertz rental spot, Hertz billing customer service line, & Hetz toll/plate pass) Lastly, I was also auto enrolled into a $559/month toll/plate pass program without my consent (or knowledge of what this actually was) that was inaccurately placed & inconveniently charged to my acct (the toll/plate pass withdrew money out of my account BEFORE THE DUE DATE) their mistake and untimely withdrawal of the mistake inconvenienced me even further Thankfully the toll/plate pass person kindly helped to explain & resolve this as Hertz did not Overall, I'd recommend booking through Lyft as that was a much better experience than directly working with Hertz as every extension of Hertz seems to have not been in alignment with one another read more

Prior to my arrival, they modified our reservation by voice message twice, but were also unavailable by phone after for several days, and then presented us with twenty ANGRY questions about why we were late for our reservation. If I could give 0 stars I absolutely would. The absolute worst customer service. I've been renting from hertz for years and I've never been treated worst. I rented a car at 5pm Thursday and booked for 1 day. Because I was going out of state for a funeral and didn't make it back in time to drop it off the next day at 5pm Friday I held onto the vehicle until Saturday. When I went to return the vehicle at 1:25pm Saturday I was told when I entered the location that I should keep the vehicle because I was going to get charged until Monday because I didn't return it by closing time which was 1pm. Further more I was told if I had arrived at 1:15pm they could if helped me. I don't have a place to park it and do not want to be liable for the vehicle so I told them I couldn't take it. And because I couldn't take it I don't think I should be charged for it as I am not going to physically have it for the 50+ hours that they will be charging me. They were super rude, unprofessional, and condescending. All made up for one of the worst experiences renting a car ever. Do yourself a favor and go to a company that gives a shit about your business. Stay away at all cost. read more

The people who work at this location are useless and extremely bad at problem solving. They are also ridiculously unaccommodating, unhelpful and just plain dense. Dealing with them is infuriating and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I showed up here once at my scheduled pickup time and waited for 25 minutes outside because everyone in the building had gone to get lunch and literally just locked the door and left without leaving any kind of note. The lackluster apology I received for the inconvenience did very little to warm my heart to this place. If you're able to rent from literally any other Hertz location I would highly encourage it. When I came to pick up my car, the first car they gave me was dirty, had scratches, and had knobs/switches broken off in the interior. The second car I received, also unwashed, and reeked of cigarette smoke. Turned them both back in and had my contract voided. I'm giving 1 star. This is New York City. Had I driven off in a banged up car that reeked of cigarette smoke and tried to return it the next day, you know damn well they would have slammed me with penalties/fees and place blame on the customer(me) for their cars being unsafe/unsanitary to drive in. I live in Bushwick and used to get rentals at jfk or laguardia but this location is so much better for four reasons: It's crazy close It's almost always cheaper They are incredibly fast for pickup and drop off They are the nicest people ever. On the day I picked up, I waited about 30 minutes for the process of getting my car, despite having "checked in" online prior to arriving. Expect to give up any choice in vehicle, and having a clean quality vehicle for the convenience of going to this local Hertz branch (rather than an airport location). However, that is not even the reason I am giving them one star. Hertz car rental prices are often competitive, so it may be hard to avoid this place all together. Just to return (drop off) a car, I had to sit in their dirty/smelly office for 25 minute until a staff member would help me. The real kicker is after the employee inspected the car and started the check or process, he told me I owed $40 more than I should have. When I inquire as to why he told me I picked up the vehicle 2 hours earlier then I actually did. Then I also showered him I didn't even make the reservation until 12:10pm (on the same day as pick up) yet he was insisting I picked up the car at 11am! I kid you not! The he consulted with the other staff member, who basically accused me of lying. After arguing with both of them for close to 30 minutes one of these morons suddenly realized they were trying to check me out for someone else's rental. Horrible place, I don't recommend. I get there five minutes before my reservation. I reserved almost two months in advance, yet they tell me they have no cars available. They tell me to wait 30 minutes. An hour passes and I'm still waiting for a car. They offer me a car but when I ask if this is a mid size car like the one I reserved they say no and give it to another person waiting for a car without asking me if I'll still take the only car that's available. Eventually it came close to closing time and I overheard the two employees talk about how they want to disconnect the phone lines by 12:58PM. I did end up receiving a vehicle after almost after an hour and fifteen minutes however it was dirty, and the gas tank was not full although they had marked it full on the paper work.
