Saturday, May14, 2022 at 12:45pm, we returned the rental vehicle to the Budget garage. No one greets you to check-in the vehicle. Searching for a Budget rep was time consuming. Finally, a rep instructed me to leave the keys in the car and go. That was the instant that gave control of the vehicle to Budget. That is normal Budget operating procedure. I retrieved my luggage and proceeded to the terminal. Unfortunately, I left one bag on the front seat. Within five minutes, I returned to the vehicle to get my bag. The vehicle had been removed to the clean-up area. A Budget clerk offered to take me to the clean-up area. We located the vehicle and searched it. Nothing was found. We searched the area they use for Lost and Found. Nothing was found. All of this occurred within twenty minutes. My conclusion, negligence by Budget. I got a decent deal (slightly less than $50 a day) and at the counter there was no line (there was a huge line for Budget). After an easy check-in, I went to get a car from the rental lot. I signed up for a compact SUV and there were 5 available. I got the Ford Escape and it was clean inside, no scratches, full tank of gas, and no weird smells. I drove it around for a couple days and returned it easily within 5 minutes at the end of my stay. I got my full deposit back. We were too far away to got back so I contacted Alamo and was told that they would make some allowances on out bill for the nasty stinking inconvenience of the car. Well, on sunny days we were fine, but, at night and on rainy days, 50% of our trip, we were stuck. Our clothes even reeked of cigarettes. Well, lo and behold, when we got the bill we got absolutely ZERO consideration for the nasty car. Imagine that. We travel a fair amount and will refuse any Alamo rental or any of the other rental car companies that they own or control. In this day and age to have a car like that is intolerable.
