We admittedly had zero issues with getting the car from the counter in a short period of time & the car was clean when we received it. We declined all fuel services provided since we were planning on returning the car with a full tank. 5 days later we return the car with a full tank of gas (Filled up at a Spinx gas station 2 miles out of the airport.) We received our bill which had a $158 fuel service charge on it saying we brought it back with no fuel. It took 2 hours and a call to the gas station who luckily was able to send us a receipt from the pump we use to get it sent to Avis Customer Service for a refund. Whoever did the intake of our car didn't do their job because they just had to look down and see the gas tank was full. read more

Can't tell you how pleased we were with Becky. We were given the wrong size car at the airport. To top it off, the staff (at the airport) did not even acted liked they cared. We stopped by the Avis on Meeting street. Becky was kind and worked with us to get us the right size car. Made the whole process very easy. I would highly recommend this location. Word to the wise: If you can avoid using this location, do so. If you can't avoid it, do whatever you can to avoid Dee. (Or, simply don't be me apparently.) Nope, actually now that I see the reviews, she's been wreaking havoc and customer service fails on basically everyone. Picture It: Preferred Plus member + Avis lover here who travels at least 20 weeks out of the year with zero issue. Well last week, I had the unfortunate fate of meeting Dee who refused to rent to me. I was greeted (and being helped) by a younger attendant with short dreadlocks and red glasses. I presented my ID and as I'm pulling up my required credentials on my phone, Dee abruptly chimes in from the neighboring desk with, "has to be a physical card." I replied with I'm presenting a photo of my current badge as I've been doing for years to avoid losing it on the road. Nope, Dee takes over and wouldn't accept it. I'm thinking to myself that she's being over the top, but I need to get on my way. I asked Dee to remove the code, and I'd handle it on the backend. Her reply to that-- "No. We don't do anything with reservations." Ok, then I'll just cancel it and rebook. Her reply, "No. It's a one way, and our fleet is currently limited so you can't do that either." Really? Can I show my name in my company system? No. Email? No. Website? No. -- no customer service whatsoever, or communication of how we can take care of the issue and I can be on my way. No offer of help, or problem solving skills to be found. Just aggressive no's and a rude disposition, while I stand there stunned. And why? This whole ordeal has me thinking, "Now what on earth in all my years of Avis loyalty did I do to deserve the likes of Dee?" When I tried calling the help desk, of course there was a random 30-minute wait-time on this occasion, which absolutely never happens. So, I sat in the lobby for about 17-minutes on hold. Thank God my husband happened to be with me on this occasion as he, impatient with no status with Avis, sat next to me in the lobby (while I waited for the help desk, and Dee sat at the desk on her cellphone pretending to ignore me while I waited). Hubs booked a car on the spot via his Avis app-- YEP, he booked the very same one-way vehicle that Dee and company had just told me wasn't available or "could not be rented." He was booked on his way in less than 6 minutes, as I usually am. Dee continues to ignore me with my jaw agape standing at the desk as my husband rents my reserved vehicle. But no help for me at all. I get that we all have a job to do, but this wasn't that. Somehow Dee mistook me for an Avis Preferred Plus carjacker, I am in no way accustomed to being handled this way and I'm disappointed to say the least. read more

After reserving a car on the phone for 1 day costing $300 when we arrived to pick it up we were informed they had ZERO cars! The woman at the front desk could not have been less helpful. She was rude from the beginning and unwilling to even attempt to assist us, "you should have read the fine print." There was no fine print we booked over the phone. The recorded call has no mention of running the risk of being out of cars. In order to get our refund we have to call customer service and waste more of our vacation that Avis already royally screwed up. It will take 7-10 days to receive that refund. Completely unacceptable. Avoid at all cost. This is a scam. read more

Pay attention to online reviews. The Avis location at Charleston International Airport did not have my prepaid reserved car or anything similar. Three staff members bullied and mocked me. After an hour they wouldn't guarantee my refund. Finally, after an hour and a half, I received a car that the staff had said they didn't have. read more

Only for Avis Rental unprofessional Basters to charge my Card again after I paid them in full. I rent the Van June 14th 2025. DO NOT Rent from these people. Rented a car turned it in. Next day they called. " You may not be aware that you were in an accident or did damage to the rental" The very bottom was dented ( We definitly did not do it) Constantly mail stating different amounts. I unfortunately did not take pics before. Ended up putting on insurance and out of pocket to them 1600$ now it's on my record also 3 years. I went in to make a reservation and the customer service representative her name was Dee, and was totally negative and she was looking at her phone. I asked her I wanted to make a reservation for Monday and she would not tell what cars were available. She would not even open her computer to help or take my reservation. She kept on telling me she doesn't know anything or what cars she has available. She should be fired for not doing her job. Avis has gone down hill and should hire competent people to take people reservations and train them to be professional and have manners . I'll start off by saying I read the reviews prior to booking and was skeptical. I decided to risk it and book a car on July 27 for one week and everything turned out great except the truck that I had booked online wasn't available but that wasn't issue with me as I just need a car. I made the reservation 2 days prior and arrived 30 min early to get the car. I had reserved a Toyota Tacoma but they gave me a Ford Edge which I loved and was comfy clean etc. I wasn't charged extra but to find this out I had to call Avis customer service as the rep at the location didn't know. Again no issue. They put $200 hold which I should receive 3-5 days after. I would definitely book again here if I need to. read more

This branch of Avis is terrible. Do not trust their posted hours. We tried to turn a car in 15min before their crazy early closing time on a Saturday (2PM) and they were already closed. We called and were told it would be no problem to turn it in an hour later the next morning because they open late on Sundays and we had a tour scheduled right when they opened (and they would not let us turn it in earlier on Sunday). Holy laziness, the lady cleaning cars claimed the inside of the rental car we were returning was "excessively dirty" when it was not. No trash, no stains, no smoking, no ash, no pet hair, no spilled food or drinks... literally it needed a vacuum of the seats and the rugs shook out, and the interiors wiped down... all of which is 100% the job of the rental company to do between rentals?! read more

We usually rent from Enterprise, and thought we could trying Avis/Budget again because it was cheaper. It was a mistake and will be staying loyal to enterprise for the future. Our return time was 9:20am. We drove into the lot at 9:40am. We stood in line inside for ten minutes before we were assisted by an agent. The agent, Delia, was extremely rude. She charged us an extra $42. (And the daily rate was $50.). After we left, we called the phone number on the website to complain, and we were connected with Delia. She was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional and yelled at us saying that we were lying and she wasn't going to do anything for us. read more

She was hostel and defensive because SHE didn't do her job right. No other vehicles available. Just save yourself the hassle and avoid this place at all costs. If I could rate lower than a 1 I would. NEVER USE AVIS CAR RENTAL! We rented a car from Avis from may 16th thru June 13th and prepaid $1500 to do so. When we got home, we found Marijuana all over the car and when we called avis they said we would have to drive the car full of drugs back to their location 2 hours away to swap it out. After 7 phone calls and hours of arguing we finally got them to agree to pick up the vehicle via tow truck but we would still have to go pick up another vehicle from them. During this time our reservation had mysterasly been shortened to being dropped off on May 24th without us ever requesting or agreeing to that. So once again spending hours on the phone with got our original drop off date back but now they are charing us $150 that they say will supposedly be refunded but why would we have to pay that in the first place when the mistake was made on their end? read more

Without a doubt the worst Avis experience I've ever had. As a preferred member, I'm accustomed to the Avis app guiding you to the location where you retrieve your car, but for some reason that did not occur at the Charleston airport. So I made my way to the Avis desk where I encountered my first rude service from an Avis associate. The lady at the counter barked at me to come to her, then proceeded to tell me I went to the wrong location as a preferred member and needed to go to the garage service desk. Upon arriving at the garage service desk, I was greeted with no one at the desk, a long line of frustrated customers, and Avis employees leisurely milling about. When a lady finally was ready to help me, rather than greeting me with a hello and apologizing for the delay, she barked at everyone to get in a line that had patiently been waiting. I gave her my last name and without saying anything left for 10 minutes, she came back and told me the spot I could retrieve my rental car from. Upon finding my assigned car, it reeked of cigarette smoke and had undergone a half hearted car wash. The feeble attempt of the Avis car washer to wipe off / clean the inside of the windshield left glaring smudges filling my field of view. When I got to the gate to be processed out, I asked the lady if she had a wipe I could use to wipe off the inside of the windshield. She managed to find a windex bottle and towel for me to wipe it off myself. She never verified my identity though and let me leave with the car. The employees here are comically incompetent. To circle back to the beginning, this was by far worst experience I've ever had dealing with Avis, and maybe it is just a Charleston thing but the management at this location needs to get this fixed. read more

Truly horrible. The worst car rental experience I've ever had. I wish I'd checked these reviews beforehand as I'd never have even bothered with this location. They must know they have problems, but they simply don't care. Ok, so we wanted to drive out to Kiawah one day on a recent visit to Charleston. Seeing an Avis location just a few blocks from our hotel we thought "perfect". We made our reservation approximately 5 days in advance and just needed the car for 1 day. This reservation was made DIRECTLY on Avis' website as well, so it's not like I tried to use an online cheap site. Everything was confirmed and we even received a couple reminder emails attempting to upsell insurance plans, etc. in other words, no sign of any issues, and they even sent an (automated) email the morning of the rental day to remind us... We arrived at 10:00 AM, which is when this location opens. When it was my turn the woman asked for my name and she looked at her list for the day. She matter-of-fairly tells me they "left us a message yesterday" and we were one of approximately ten reservations that were cancelled. We didn't get any messages and she couldn't even tell me my phone number. Apparently if you book your car only a few days in advance and only need it for a day or two, they cancel you if they don't have enough vehicles. Completely ridiculous! I don't believe she ever apologized or offered anything beyond this very gruff explanation. Now, it just so happened another couple in line were there to return their rental early, so this ended up working out in the end. My travel companion indicated there was a newlywed couple waiting further back in line that overheard my experience and they said they also booked on only a few days notice and probably were going to hear the same thing. I hope it worked out for them somehow, but what s terrible experience and the worst customer service I've experienced in a while. I'd give negative stars if I could. I really hope this review helps somebody to avoid this place. read more

Worst Avis experience we have had today 2/15. We reserved a car and when we arrived to pick up we were told there were no cars available and that we couldn't get one. Now I understand things happen, but the lady and/or Avis should have at least given us a call to inform us so we could plan. Instead the lady working behind counter was rude, and said that we needed to cancel and not her as it would cause us to get charged (What?!). She said it is what it is and nothing could be done We ended up having to Uber to airport to pick up a new rental. Worst customer service experience I have had in years. The staff goes out of their way to be unhelpful. All customer questions are answered with, "I don't know, We don't have that information, Google it." After being turned away with a reservation, I spent 30 minutes sitting in the lobby trying to make another rental car reservation at the airport and waiting for an Uber. I observed several guest interactions. I was appalled. Customers came in with cheerful attitudes and left with their heads down in defeat from condescension, overcharging, or repeatedly being told, "THAT'S NOT COMPANY POLICY." I rented a car here. As I drove out it was obvious the interior had not been cleaned. An attendant did offer to clean it but I declined. I was focused on the gas gauge which showed 1/8th when the contract said full. I went in and talked to the manager who assured me it would be no problem and he wrote on the contract and said he would update the system. Of course it was a huge problem as I was charged $107.00 refueling charge I had photos of the fuel gage at checkout and at return and the receipt for the gas added but it took multiple e-mails and phone calls to get it resolved. When I eventually spoke to the manager he was very nice but renting a car should not involve this much bother. Skip this place and find an other location. read more

We had a horrible experience here this past May and in our first visit to this lovely city. We walked to the office from our B. & B. When we went in to claim our rental, the woman behind the counter informed us that there were no cars available! We telephoned the afternoon before to confirm our previously made reservation and we were assured by a woman on the line with us that everything was in place and all we had to do was to show up the next day. We conveyed this information to the woman behind the counter and she implied that we were lying to her because she was the only person there all week and she claimed never to have spoken with us the day before! This went on for more than 45 minutes and she made no offer to help us out of the predicament. While we were contemplating our limited options, a call came in from another budget office about 10 miles out of town. She had a quick conversation and informed us that a car was out there. We did a Uber ride out there, called ahead and fortunately they confirmed that a car would be there. No apology for all the trouble and inconvenience we suffered from the woman behind the counter at Meeting Street office. She said it all with her plastic look and plenty of attitude.
