As long as you live, do NOT take your car here. They charge by the hour, with each hour becoming more expensive. You can see the " mechanics" work at a pace that would make a glacier look like a speed track. They will tell you that that have to put your car on a diagnostic even if the issue is obvious to the naked eye. The AAA in Mt Pleasant is much more trustworthy. These guys are thief's. read more

For a number of years I have taken our cars to the AAA service center on Hwy 7 in Charleston and received good service. Last November I took our older car in for a stem to stern work up: new tires, drain and replace all fluids, align everything that could be aligned,even new wiper blades. I drove it home (about a mile and a half) and parked it in the driveway. In March I realized it was not being driven, so I decided to send it to our daughter in Arizona, who puts a lot of miles on her vehicles. The car was barely off the carrier when the wheels locked up. She had it taken to the nearest Subaru dealership, about 110 miles away. Their shop had to REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION for about $12,000. The car is still there because TRAVELERS INSURANCE CO. will not pay for the work. I am fed up with being put off and the dealership certainly wants their money read more

This is my spot for currency exchange . It's free for members and it's fast , takes 48 hours usually. Staff is always friendly and helpful . For example, an employee overheard me chatting with another customer about solo traveling abroad and keeping in touch with your family . The employee then told me about the STEP program (smart traveler enrollment program) offered by the Department of State . She then gave me handout with the STEP info and other tips for traveling abroad that I had never considered. I was very appreciative! They are a great resource for the avid traveler as they offer a variety of services like tour books , maps, guides, travel insurance , etc. read more

I like AAA but they are always making little mistakes that are disturbing. When changing my oil they screwed up the threads the oil drain plug. Another time they screwed up the fasteners on a bottom face heat shield (it fastens to the bottom of my truck). The shield later fell off my truck. Another time they rotated the tires and oriented the white lettering to the outside on 3 tires. The 4th they faced the white lettering inward. I will not trust them with anything advanced. I wanted to like this place, and tried to give it a chance, but I got let down over and over again when I took my car to them to have my engine replaced. I should've known to take it somewhere else right off the bat after the bare bones diagnostic that they must think no one notices. My insurance company found a used engine, then AAA lied to me and said that they had already ordered it and turns out they didn't and when they finally got around to it the engine was gone. Because of this I ended up with an engine that has 20,000 extra miles on it. Thank you for that, Theodore. One positive I'll say is that there was a woman who works there, Heather, who was helpful and nice. Aside from her, I had to initiate all of the communication with AAA. Theodore made multiple promises that he didn't keep. He also tried to upsell me at every turn along the way. You'd think after you screw someone out of 20,000 miles on their car you'd try to make up for it. This guy overcharged me from the price agreed on with my insurance as well. I ended up paying over a hundred extra dollars from my own pocket on top of the deductible that I paid. I asked him if they could help me replace the top of my center console that was worn out and after totally screwing me over he said that they wouldn't do it because it would cost an hour of labor. I left there and went to autozone to buy a screwdriver and replaced it myself in literally 90 seconds. The total lack of transparency and accountability for mistakes make this AAA not trustworthy or dependable enough to take my car to again. Theodore never even so much as acknowledged that he made a mistake. If I took my car somewhere else that values it's customers I'd have an engine with 20,000 less miles, I wouldn't have been overcharged, I would've received a legitimate diagnostic of my car's health, and I would've saved plenty of Uber money in how long it took when Theodore's apathy caused me to have to have a second (worse) engine shipped from Canada. You should honestly be ashamed of the way you handled this. Bad business don't go here. read more

My favorite thing is when we're told it would be at max an hour and would be expedited due to being on the side of the interstate at night. Then an 80 minutes later calling to see what's going on to be told they're on another call and it would be another hour before assistance would come. read more

I've never had a good experience with any AAA. I was waiting for a tow for an hour and a half more than was expected, and was towed to this AAA. The staff was admittedly very friendly, as I had tears in my eyes for having my car troubles. They kept my car overnight and told me the price to drain a gas tank would be close to $500. Called another mechanic who said the cost would be $150 at most. Tried to have it towed again from the AAA to the other mechanic and had to go through multiple phone calls with a very inept service person. I will not be using this service again. I still can't believe how much money they tried to squeeze out of me for simply draining a gas tank. read more

Just now I thought My wife had a loose front tire and it turns out a different transmission professional forgot to tighten the lug nuts down when she had some work done recently. My car broke down on the on ramp to I-26 & 17 from downtown, I called AAA and they towed me to this car care center in no time (as I was in a dangerous spot). I was an emotional wreck because i was in a dangerous situation plus this was the first time I had experienced something like this. Even though they were slammed with appointments, they managed to get me in! Heather was working the desk and she was beyond helpful and made sure she did everything in her power to calm me down, get my car in, and make sure everything was taken care of. This was a crazy experience for me, i was seriously freaking out but Heather and the mechanics at this location went above and beyond to make sure I was ok emotionally, and that my car was properly inspected and fixed. I was Looking for a reasonable priced synthetic oil change even though I am not a member of AAA. Their price of $59.99 for 5 quarts was extremely competitive and so I took my Mazda there. This price included a tire rotation , checking the air filter etc & all fees. I was able to make an appointment within 3 days and within 1 1/2 hours I was in and out. However once home I realized the service technician made a small mistake that required me to return the next day. Suzi the service account executive took me in right away and was apologetic and and helpful. The manager Bryant fixed the problem and discounted the cost of an additional part replacement. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable and hands on. I would definitely use them again. read more

The travel agent Bryan was very knowledgeable about Spain seeing that he had just recently returned from a Southern Spain vacation himself. It made me feel good that the agent has traveled internationally and has a first person understanding about where to go and what I need. My vehicle was towed to this facility. It would not start. They replace the vehicle computer module. It did not fixed the problem. After more diagnostic they found a shorted wire to the transmission speed sensor. Repair the wire and vehicle started. They put my old computer module back in and vehicle still started. Did not charge me for new module. The repair bill was reasonable for all the hours they spend on the vehicle. Definitely I will bring my vehicle back here if I need anymore repairs read more

My friend and I were passing through town and came in with a dented oil pan at about 2PM Memorial Day weekend. We were expecting to get a hotel for the night since they were going to close at 6PM, but Jay took us under his wing and made it possible for us to get on the road! This AAA in West Ashley is far better than the one I was frequenting in Mt. Pleasant. After an oil change, the one in Mt. Pleasant failed to reset the oil mileage to 100%, necessitating a return trip. In addition they recommended something that would cost several hundred dollars. As feeble as my car knowledge is, I knew that it was not necessary then or now. Without an appointment, I got my oil changed in about half an hour, less time than they estimated considering one car was ahead of me. They also recommended a new air filter (never done) and tire rotation, which I had not done in some time on my 2010 Honda Civic. One look at my filter and I quickly agreed. They did not charge for that but did charge $25 for tire rotation, which I thought was steep, esp. because Firestone would have done it free, but I was there so I had it done. read more

I have been to the AAA Car Care Center in West Ashley 3 times now and have always had a great experience. I have utilized the online appointment tool via the website to make sure that I have my appointment a couple of days in advance. The last time I went though, they were flexible enough to squeeze me in and get me right in and out within fifteen minutes. The staff is always friendly, and the pricing is always fair. I have read the other ratings about people feeling like they have gotten ripped off when getting towed. Maybe they did not read which coverage they were signed up for. I have never felt like I was ripped off. I have always priced checked when getting quoted. I love AAA and will continue to keep coming back. read more

As Daniel B says, avoid the Car Care Center at all costs. They are clearly in the business of ripping off stranded motorists. My husband was towed here by AAA when he broke down on a long-distance road trip. After doing the diagnostics they gave him a quote double that of our home mechanic, so we started calling around. We got 3 quotes in the Charleston area that matched our regular mechanic's quote, and were fortunately able to get it towed to one of these to get the work done. One part cost $533, but AAA Carolinas quoted exactly double. Another part was $121 that AAA Carolinas quoted as $575. When my husband told them he was removing his car they mechanic was surly and just said "you get what you pay for." Yes, well we didn't plan to get suckered into paying double or triple for parts. Since I received a coupon for $22 off an oil change I figured I'd give them a try since there were some other errands I could run on foot. The coupon put me at about the same price I'd paid at speedee but the reason for my rating is that the sticker they put on my windshield recommended another oil change in 3,000 miles even - and I had them put full synthetic in. I might see them in 10,000 miles if there's another coupon but I most certainly won't be going there for any significant service on my car. Regarding David's response. The label was not printed, it was hand written for exactly 3,000 miles from the mileage at the time of the service. The full synthetic should get me more than 10,000 miles so when the reminder says to being out back in 3,000 it leads me to believe that they are instructed to do this to drive business. Multiple great experiences at this shop. 0 bad experiences. I own several classic cars. Things come up and AAA gets me back on the road quickly. Before finding AAA, I was towing my cars across town. Repairs took weeks and were very overpriced. I also never spoke with the same person. At AAA, Mike will greet you every time. He remembers your name. When you hand him your keys you will have confidence the job will get done at a fair price. AAA has access to most parts the same day. Most of my repairs were done the same day. The shop is very clean and has numerous bays. Repairs have a warranty and a discount if you are a AAA member. My repairs: -head gaskets, belts, battery, alternator, fuel pump, and vacuum repair. Cars owned: 2010 Chevy suburban 1968 Chevy Camaro 1975 Cadillac Eldorado 3-27-17 Another great experience. Suburban was leaking oil. Thankfully only a leaking seal. Camaro needed a belt adjustment. Caddy got a new set of tires. AAA can do it all. read more

First, I have to say that my complaint is not against any single Carolina AAA office. Here's my story: On the morning of 8/7/18 I tried to start my rental car on Hilton Head Island, and the battery was dead. I called the AAA number on my AAA card and that routed me to AAA of California, because that is where I live. AAA CA answered the phone immediately and was ready to dispatch when they learned I was in South Carolina. They then dutifully routed my call to AAA of the Carolina's (or some such). I WAS NEVER ABLE TO TALK WITH A HUMAN IN TWO CALLS SPANNING OVER ONE HOUR! Finally I had to call Uber to take me to the Savannah airport to make my flight. The horrible service of the Carolinas' dispatch was made very obvious by contrast with the fast and efficient service of California AAA. read more

I thought I would give this well known brand a try, and I must say I am highly disappointed. I went for routine maintenance and was told my vehicle needed a few more things. 1) An air filter, (of course), that will be $46 installed, declined. Then I was told I should have a pressure cleaning of my fuel injector system, $120, no thank you. Then a front end alignment was suggested, $80 because of outside wear pattern on tires, ( probably due to improper inflation of tire), but I said what the hell and went along with that. Then while waiting I Googled "is fuel injector cleaning a scam" I learned that it may be necessary, but only if your vehicle is idling roughly and/or has over 100k mi, my vehicle is 7 yrs old with 39k mi, idle is smooth. By the way I went to Parks Auto Parts and got an air filter for $19.28 and put it in myself in less than 5mins. So I will not be a return customer to AAA Auto Care, and I'm reconsidering my AAA membership altogether. read more

My husband and I were traveling to Charleston for a wedding in June, 2015. AC stopped working. Took it to AAA Charleston and they had the car on a Saturday to fix it. Cost $1800.00 - DOUBLE what it would have cost at home (we checked). They charged $1,000 for labor!!!!!!! They replaced the compressor and the fix lasted exactly 24 hours before stopping in 103 degree weather on a Sunday. We were forced to drive the entire way home with no AC. So, obviously a bad part. Wrote AAA a detailed letter requesting some compensation for the fact that their fix sucked but got no response. Our AAA in our hometown did fix it for free but I will NEVER take my car to a AAA again. They are supposed to help travelers, not bleed them dry. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!! read more

So today I decided to take my car (Honda Accord) for an oil change. Normally I go to Rick Hendricks on Savannah hwy but as I live in Mt. Pleasant, I thought I'd go to AAA car care right down the road. Plus haven been AAA card member since 1979, figured I'd get some type of discount. Well, did I screw up and will not go there for care service, maybe to book a trip but not car service. First the oil change was over $30 dollars after my $15 dollar discount, $45 dollars to unscrew a bolt let gravity empty the pan, spin off an oil filter...spin one back on and fill with oil....after all you don't need a Phd to do it. Checked my last work order from Rick Hendricks....$28.97.But also the little girl...I guess a receptionist.....comes to me during all this and says the cabin filter was dirty and needed replacing. Showing me it, she was right. Here it comes.....how much $37 dollars....holy batcrap Batman. That's ok I say. Walmart.....paid $9.98. But to be fair that did include labor...it read like this....part $18dollars.....labor $19dollars.....wait...didn't Mr. Dipstick already take out the old one.....yup...she showed it to me. Guess I should be thankful he didn't charge me to put it back. And of course she said the battery tested below acceptable levels....so since I purchased from Auto Zone down the street.....2 years ago....went straight there and asked them to check it. It was fine....man saved $120.94 there. I should be grateful, I was going to take my second vehicle....Nissan Xterra there to have a power steering pump replaced.
