I had one of the worst rental experiences of my life with Hertz. I rented a vehicle for one month and, because this location was closer to my home, I paid an extra fee through the app to return the car here instead of Revere. During the rental, a small stone hit the windshield from the outside and caused a minor wave/crack. This was clearly not caused by me. It is not something a driver can prevent, as it comes from road debris. Despite this, I was charged $500 for the windshield damage. In addition, I was charged an extra $200 under "intercity fee" simply because I returned the vehicle to this location instead of Revere -- even though I had already selected and paid for this option in the app. I emailed the location manager regarding these issues, but I did not receive any response. Also, the staff member I interacted with at this location was extremely unprofessional and rude. This level of customer service is unacceptable. read more

I reserved a one week rental today, June 2, to be picked up today (Boston Marriott Newton location). I received confirmation of that reservation. I spent $15 on an Uber to get there. When I arrived there at 2:00 PM, the young man in the office told me there were no cars available. I told him I had a confirmation. He said the company frequently overbooked reservations and did not provide the vehicles to meet commitments. I asked if a car would be available the following day. He said likely not and that I should try calling other car rental companies. I asked why that information had not been communicated to me and he shrugged. I will never attempt to rent from them again. Such a dishonest business practice and unprofessional behavior by the employee in the office. Shame on them. If I could give zero stars I would. I showed up for my rental, the agent was 10 minutes late, the car wasn't ready so I had to wait another 15 minutes for them to prep the car. When I received the car, it was filthy on the outside and inside, no windshield washer fluid. When I got to work, I called Hertz and they suggested that I drive an hour to Logan Airport to replace the car rather than offering to have somebody come to either replace the car, clean it up, or replace the car locally. It's unfortunate that this is the most convenient location, because my last experience was not great and I have another upcoming reservation already booked. I scheduled my reservation for August in February for an 8am pickup on a Thursday morning. When I arrived at 8, I was informed they had no cars available and I would have to wait half an hour, not a huge problem. They did offer me a Tesla, which I was unable to take because of where I was traveling. The Hertz employee had to go to another location to pickup and bring back a car for me. I didn't end up getting my car until about 9:15. I reserved a car averaging 39mpg, but I didn't break more than 22mpg on my 700 mile round trip. The car I was given also smelled like cigarette smoke that had been covered up by an air freshener. Hertz told me on the phone that I could park my car at the hotel while I was gone and pay $7/day for parking. When I was loading my rental car, a hotel worker came out and said I had to pre-pay (this was never mentioned) and that it would be $14/day. I explained to her that she would have to talk to Hertz because they are giving different information. I also added the rental car license plate to my EZ Pass transponder, and when I went to grab the transponder out of my car to put into the rental, they told me I didn't need it because I had already registered it to my account online. I got all the MA charges on my EZ Pass account, but the NY tolls were billed to the rental company and I got stuck with 2 NY charges totaling $4.98 plus a $10/day usage fee, so about $25 for something they told me would be covered. Now I know that when I'm adding a rental car's license plate to my transponder to always have it in the car with me when going over state lines, but it seems that the staff there are misinformed on their coordination with the hotel policies and transponder information. The staff were all pleasant, and the facility is clean and convenient. It just seems to be run very haphazardly to get people in and out. read more

It was was a billing fiasco. After returning the car Saturday (when they were closed and neglected to mention). I got called and texted for days that I was in violation of the agreement bu keeping the car too long. They put hundreds of dollars of additional charges on my card. My card flagged them as fraudulent and after calling Hertz -- with huge hold times, I was assured it was straightened out, only to have it start all over the next day. The rudest person in creation finally answered. Know they keep deposits for weeks, which must be a financial win for them. Please save yourself a time-consuming terrible experience and go somewhere else, anywhere else. read more

All the staff here are extraordinarily professional, efficient, and courteous. The cars are new and have all the up to date features.The location is awesome and the hours are perfect. It is of course a covid safe environment. Because it is inside the Newton Marriot there are a lot of advantages over other rental agencies. They are now happily the preferred rental agency for Mapfre. Also Hertz has a great membership program which makes rentals anywhere a breeze. read more

I made a car reservation 3 weeks in advance. I arrived on time to pick up my rental car only to find a very, very long line that was not moving. There was only one person working on one of the busiest weekends of the year. I waited 2 hours in line until I finally got my car. Again, pretty much what the previous reviews said (and wish I'd read them ahead of time before booking), horrendously understaffed (this is the week before the 4th of July!?), and went to pay for my reservation only to discover they added an additional $200 deposit to the total shown at time of reservation, they don't take debit cards, or split payments between two credit cards. When a windshield crack developed on my Hertz rental vehicle, Drazelle at this Marriott Newton, MA Hertz location was incredibly helpful and informative in providing me with a replacement car. This after getting no help nor responses from other Hertz locations, including the Manchester NH airport where I initially picked up the car. Great customer service from my experience. read more

absolutely the worst experience. I went with Hertz based on my insurance company saying they are the preferred rental company. They gave me a car that I said smelled of smoke. instead of just saying it won't be a problem. they said no it doesn't. the car leaked oil on my driveway and proceeded to have an intermittent oil light flashing on the dash. when I went to return it they said we only have a compact which I drove around the block and decided not to take. And they charged me for returning a leaking car. They should be in jail. read more

I had the worst experience of my life in a rental car. First this location is not nonsmoking. All their cars have been smoked in and whatever they do to clean the vehicle done get ride of it. My first vehicle smelt of women's perfume till I turned on the heat then it blew cigarette smoke smell throughout the car. The next day I exchanged it and the second car was worse to the point my 5 year old said it had the worst smell ever and after being in the car for 5 min was holding her stomach and saying she didn't feel well. Truthfully I'm not sure it was cigarette smoke in the second car. Hertz as a company would not fix this issue because this location is not franchised. This location should never be used by anyone who doesn't smoke. Personal if I owed hertz I would not allow this lo to continue to operate under my companies name it is making the corporation look bad. I will never rent from Hertz in the Boston area because of this experience. read more

I guess something drastic must have changed from the last reviews to mine. I reserved a car (full size sedan) and the manager gave me a GREAT deal on an upgraded car! The car had 50 miles on it! I went in the office and we had a full conversation about cars, V8's etc. and she mentioned how she's glad that she's renting the car to someone who sounds like they will appreciate it. As a car enthusiast, this is who I want to speak with at a place that rents cars. A week after I rented an even more upgraded car for an even sweeter deal. Not reservation, just walked In. The first manager made a note mentioning the cars I liked from our previous conversation, and it was handled very well. I was very satisfied. This location is Great! But hertz could be a little more competitive with their pricing. Avis is much cheaper. Other than that, this location deserves recognition. read more

Horrible Customer service, wish I has gone with Enterprise. For starters no one answers the phone at theis location nor do they return voicemail. Set up a rental to be dropped off when leaving my car for body work from accident. Confirmed 2x for 8:30 am, they arrived at 9 in a rush after the owner of the body shop called to find out where they were. Jamie arrived at 9am and forgot to wear a mask informing me that she ran out quickly to being car at last minute. My car is a 2012 before keyless enrty, I had to ask her to show me how to use the keyless entry bc she had just handed me the key and walked away. When I got in the vehciel and turned it on the music was blarring... got home and my receipt is not my receipt, she did not have the carbon in the right spot so I have my name and signature with someone else's contact information, drop off info from day before and wrong car information. Now waiting on hold for over 10 minutes for Jamie after trying to get threw for last hour to get the correct paperwork, sigh read more
