Their system crashed and it took forever to get out of there. When I booked, the rate was $59 for a midsize SUV, est total of $83.00. They charged me $159.00 with a final total of $214.64. We have Hertz members for 20 plus years and are members of the President circle for four years. We rented a vehicle from Hertz in Boston at 30 Park Plaza on May 14th, 2025 at approximately 10:00 a.m. The lady that checked us out was absolutely lovely, helpful, friendly and informative. Our pick up was seamless. I wish I would have gotten her name, because she was the contrast to the woman we encountered on the return. I would have given a minus 10 stars but because of the wonderful check in lady, I gave it some points. She was worth 15 points. Upon return, it took us an hour longer than we had planned coming back from Maine, as traffic in Boston is pretty much a nightmare all the time, but Sunday May 18th around 12:30p.m. I didn't get this person's name at the front desk and wish I would have. Inept would have been a compliment to her. I had to use the restroom and had no idea where it was. My husband was clearing out our car in the garage, so it would be a minute before he would come in with our luggage. I stood in line behind a couple renting a vehicle and the clerk had many questions for them, waiting patiently - as patiently as I could needing to use the restroom. Finally, it was my turn. Here is the dialog that ensued with this no-customer focused clerk: ME: Hello. We are returning our rental car. Can you please direct me to your restrooms? Clerk: What is your last name? I told her. Next, what is your confirmation number? ME: All this to use the restroom? At that moment, my husband came in to the store with our luggage. ME to my husband: I need the confirmation number of our reservation SO I CAN GO TO THE BATHROOM! My husband was exasperated and gave her the paperwork He also had to use the restroom. Clerk: we have no restroom you can use. ME: Can you #!@*&% believe it? No restroom for customers that just rented their vehicles? Clerk tells my husband: There are restrooms right next store in a public garage. ME: More #!@*&% The rest of the story: We RAN to the next door building and found no restrooms. We ended up walking another three block and found restrooms in a parking garage, so NOT next door - four blocks away. The CLERK: - no "sorry, we don't have restrooms for public use. There are restrooms IN A PARKING GARAGE FOUR BLOCKS AWAY by the Chipotle." It was obvious she didn't LISTEN to what I was asking and made me stand there for another five VALUABLE minutes at this point - looking up our name and confirmation number, clearly ignoring my query. Why does Hertz have this type of person working with the public, when clearly, she can't listen and obviously has no compassion for other humans in a state of urgency. *** FYI: for those wondering why we didn't plan better. There was NO REST STOP in downtown Boston to stop and use the restroom. It took 30 minutes to go 1000 feet. We barely made our train schlepping suitcases and back packs to get to the restrooms; a place we didn't have a clue where it was. In all, if we had been able to use the restroom at Hertz, we would have cut off a half an hour of getting to the train station. Save yourself. Don't tolerate the minus 10 people. Maybe it will help them decide they are not people person's and should try another vocation. I know - labor is hard to find. Maybe, as hiring personnel, we need to help the applicant into a role determined by their interests before they just take a job at something they clearly DO NOT enjoy. read more

New car (Kia) with just over 1,100 miles. Easy exit or check-out service and Hertz rep was friendly. Arrived at my destination two hours later and hotel manager asks why I don't have any license plates?! I have no plates on either front or back of the vehicle! This is the OMH Omaha airport Hertz location. You take the generic rental car shuttle from the airport terminal and it drops you off at the shared parking lot for all the rental car companies. This location doesn't have the Gold member board where you just look for your name to find which spot your car is in. You have to go into the Hertz trailer and talk to a representative to pick up your car. The rep was friendly and helpful. I got a Jetta and was happy with it. Returning the car was easy. This is a franchise operator and if you have problems with your rental, Hertz Corporate with not do a thing for you. Rented a car in February as a gold member. In May I started receiving letters from a collection firm (PurCo) indicating I owed almost $800 for a broken windshield. No notice from Hertz, just this collection letter. Hertz Corporate said they could not help as it was a franchise. Finally, got in contact with Hertz in Omaha. They sent pictures from the day after I dropped the car and from another location/lot. They said "chips are hard to see", so I probably didn't know I had broken it. The other issue - the return showed I drove over 400 miles (odometer reading from the following day). I drove the car less than 30 miles (airport to downtown Omaha, dinner and back). Hertz's response was that they regularly make mistakes when entering the mileage on returns (could they also make mistakes on checking for broken windshields?) I googled Hertz and Purco and it shows a common trend of these problems with franchise operators. PurCo's BBB rating is an "F". I used to rent frequently from Hertz for personal and business use because I did not have to deal with issues like this. We are shifting both corporate and personal rentals away from Hertz. Hertz Corportate (parent co) needs to deal with these issues. read more

I reserved our rental (SUV)months in advance. When we arrived, their lot was empty with exception of a couple large suvs. They put us in a 7 passenger (vs 5 passenger we reserved) saying they will give us a "deal". At any given time, the daily price difference is $10-$20. Our quoted cost initially was just over $300. When we returned the vehicle 5 days later, the charge was $1100. I have contacted Hertz, but because it's a franchise, they cannot and won't help. The franchise refuses to help. they have not even offered to refund a portion of the steep "upgrade" charge. BBB has not been helpful either. Hertz needs to cut ties with this franchise! read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS BRANCH. If I could give zero stars I would. My flight into Omaha had been delayed so by the time my 10 year old daughter & I got to the Hertz lot it was 1am. There was 1 attendant on duty at that time. There were 2 people in front of me. We all got our keys and were told to exit the garage to the right so the attendant could let us out. As I load up my kid and our suitcases I see the other 2 cars exit the lot. In what was less than 10 minutes from getting my keys to pulling around to the exit the attendant had locked up & left for the night. At first I was confused thinking I had misheard and I drove around the small lot but every exit was barricaded. I tried calling Hertz but of course no answer. I called airport security who came & confirmed yes, we were locked in and there was nothing they could do. I had to leave the car & take a Lyft to my hotel. It was 10:30am the next day before I heard from Hertz. They seemed very apologetic & offered to bring the vehicle to me at the hotel, offered to pay my Lyft and comp me 1 day (!!) rental. Excuse me but that is not enough. Eventually, I got it in writing they would comp the Lyft & half my rental fee. I had the car for 10 days and never heard anything again from them. When I got home I started calling & emailing to see why I hadn't received any money back. No reply. It wasn't until I filed a claim with the BBB and opened a claim through my credit card that I finally heard from the owner. Previously, I had only heard from the manager. And guess what guys, they shorted me! My rental fee was $653.53 they refunded me $317.53 but half of $653.53 is $326.77. Not to mention I have an $18 random charge on my credit card from Hertz Omaha in the middle of my reservation time period and I have no idea what it is for. This is a poorly run business with awful customer service. You know who did have attendants on duty and came to see if they could help when I was honking my horn trying to figure out if anyone was still there, AVIS. So maybe try them instead. read more

I despise this location! Reserved a midsize with President's Circle status. I was given a dirty, scratched up 2019 Honda Civic with heavily tinted windows - - piece of junk!!! They don't care about their customers only about money in their pockets. A joke of a company. Will never use them again and will tell every friend and family I have to never use Hertz to rent a car. Very friendly, honest and professional services. I accidentally left my ipod in the car. I realized when I returned to LA. I called the office and reported a left item. Next day they called me and they couldn't find it. I had few experiences that the left items never returned. After 4 days later Donna, the manage called me and she personally searched car and found my ipod. She fedex me the ipod right away. Thank you so much. I rented a black chevy Malibu w/ 7k miles starting around midnight on July 11 to 14. Rental process was easy. But my vehicle had serious issues which I discovered when I was 90 min away in the middle of the night. A low engine power warning repeatedly flashed and the car would stall and fail to accelerate from a stop. Going up the slightest hill required pushing gas pedal to the floor. Had I been closer I would have returned the vehicle but I didn't have 3+ hours to spare for a round trip. The agent I spoke to when returning car took my concerns seriously but also told me there was a black Malibu on the lot with the same problems I reported. I think this was the same car and Hertz willfully ignored warnings and continued to rent the vehicle anyways. My multiple attempts to reach corporate have gone unanswered. read more

We were greeted right away upon entering. As a gold member we just walked up and received our keys for the rental car. After realizing how small it was we upgraded to a bigger vehicle. I really wanted to only give 2 stars, but the customer service was actually really great and all of the representatives I came in contact with were extremely nice, accommodating, and not pushy about upgrades or spending more money. I typically rent from Enterprise but chose Hertz this time because the smallest car was like 2 dollars cheaper on Kayak and I am that kind of person. I was happy with my car, the customer service, and how quickly I was able to drive away and leave my car at my destination (I drove from Omaha to Minneapolis). But my car had clearly has a smoker in it. And although it is posted that you are not to smoke in the car and will be charged a cleaning fee, this car was still pretty bad. I didn't realize how bad it was until I was already on the road and into my 4 hour trip so I figured I would just push through it. But it was hot so I couldn't even roll down my AC. By the time I got to my destination I had a headache, I smelled like a smoker and I was not pleased. If they charge this giant cleaning fee, why isn't the car cleaned?!?!!? I told Hertz about my experience multiple times through email, their follow up survey, and even a customer rep (who just responded, "oh, yeah, sometimes people smoke anyway.") I haven't heard from anyone. I was not happy and will probably not use Hertz again. I guess the point of my review is to caution you to check out your car and make sure it's not a smoker car before you drive it 5.5 hours on a 90 degree day. read more

I am a firm believer in following through. I had a 6:10am flight and was told that there would be a hertz worker starting at 4am to check cars in. Upon my arrival at 4:25am, this mysterious hertz worker was no where to be found. The snowplow driver was more helpful than hertz. It was snowing and very cold outside and he found the key return box for me. I didn't have my contract to turn in with it because I was assured there would be a hertz worker there at 4am to check cars in. I'm a hertz gold member, I like hertz, they are usually really great but I did not appreciate this visit at the Omaha airport. I rented a Nissan Versa from HERTZ from the Omaha, Nebraska Eppley Airport. It went smoothly. The reps at the desk were very helpful. The person at the lot /booth I took the keys from was very helpful too. The car was in good condition, comfy seats, wide windshield for great visibility and easy to drive. When returning the Hertz parking lot lady in "blue with a dash of yellow" uniform was so helpful to assist us in parking. This same lady told us what we should watch out for since we had only just arrived. That advise was most helpful. read more

Rented a car from this location end of August 2022. Just received a demand letter for $1154 for damages that were already on the car when I picked it up. My mistake was assuming they had noted the damages. I didn't take pictures but as a presidential member who rents cars regularly, I didn't think this scam would be run on me! Please make sure you take photos of entire car and go back inside and request another car. I think they do this to a lot of people because the attendants should also tell every customer at checkout to walk around car and come back inside to report any damages but they don't. It's all a part of their scam!! Thankfully they damages will be covered by my credit card but they shouldn't have to pay this either. I'm going to be out of $154 which still upsets me because I didn't damage this car. Also when I called their customer service, the rep laughed and said "you have to pay this!!!" She was dismissive and kept repeating herself like I was deaf, asking me if I had photos over and over again. My advice, rent from another car rental agency!! read more

Awful experience with Hertz in Omaha on the Abbott location and the airport location. My wife rented the car for a wedding that we had in town. The Abbott location is not open on Sunday's so we were forced to drop it off at the airport location (which is a few hundred yards from the Abbott location). When you drop it off at the airport they hit you $15 fee for dropping it off at a different location than the one that you picked it up at even though the other location is not even open! This is totally set up to just hit every single driver with a $15 fee if they have to return it on a Sunday. The woman who we dropped the car off with at the airport said, "You can either return it here and pay the fee or keep it and drop it off tomorrow." It's a rental car company at an airport, we obviously had a flight to get to. Long story short, do NOT use Hertz, specifically the one on Abbott street. I believe this is a completely fraudulent practice. Not only am I never using Hertz in Omaha but I'm never using Hertz again. Absurd service. read more

After an entire day of back and forth with Hotwire customer service and hertz customer service, I've come to the conclusion that no one at either location know what they are talking about or their own policies. I booked a van using Hotwire using my debit card the payment processed and I only had to pay the deposit with a credit card. The credit card apparently has to be in the same name as the person the reservation is under, not your spouse/ other driver of said rental. Long story short don't use Hotwire or hertz they have no idea what the others or their own policies are and you won't get the vehicle you reserved and your plans may not happen. The only words you will hear are "I'm sorry for the inconvenience." A 6 hour ordeal, just a small inconvenience in their minds. I can't express how upset I am!!! read more

When i dropped it off April 24. They didn't answer the phone. It's the weekend. Come Monday i get charged for 2 extra days. Got that straightened out. With my receipt. Showing i was charged for the day i got it and dropped it off. Fast forward to last night. 5-19-21. I get 2 more charges to my card. 1 for $250 and another for $73.40. I called them and they said they thought i my rental was supposed to come back to Omaha. I sent in the paperwork. The lady said she will refund my money ASAP. And still my account -$323.40. So I'm gonna keep calling 402-346-6702. I'm gonna keep emailing the manager Care@hertzomaha.com. Cause i gotta wait weeks. For what they took from me overnight. And they took another $80.56 off my card today. Don't give them your credit cards people. Share this everybody. They're trying to block the truth. read more

The customer service and management is awfully bad at the Hertz Rent A Car at the Omaha International Airport. Be sure to inspect the car you rent with them from bumper to bumper. I drove out with a nail on the tire and returned it, only to be charged for $38 to cover the cost in repairing. Earlier today I was an accident and the person who hit me had rented a car from Hertz Rent A Car. I was driving out of a parking lot and the person was backing up and did not see my car and hit the my car towards the back and their damage and injuries. We exchanged information, but there was a problem, they did not have an insurance card in the car. I was able to find out that they rented a car from Hertz Rent A Car on 6603 L. Street. I called the company and spent over an hour on the phone and I got no where. I was hung up on twice until finally I was given the claims number. Horrible service. The accident was not my fault and it took forever to be given the number. I had to call several times and claims only works Monday-Friday. After my appointment with my orthopedic doctor my father is going to be calling claims. read more

This was our first rental from Hertz. We usually rent from Enterprise, but Hertz had a deal, where it was $70 less if you allowed them to charge your card immediately online. I signed up as a Gold Member to allow my wife to be added to the contract at no charge. We flew into Eppley, and stopped by the counter in the terminal. The clerk there asked if we happened to be (my name), then stated she had our vehicle ready and we could proceed right to the counter in the car pickup area. Wow! By the way, there wasn't any line in the terminal at the Hertz counter. Most of the others had long lines. No problem picking up the vehicle. The clerk was efficient and courteous. For the first time in renting vehicles, I wasn't quizzed about upgrading or adding amenities and insurance. I returned the vehicle before 5 AM to catch an early flight, and Hertz had an employee on site. Impressive! This would have been a five-star review for Hertz, except for the vehicle, which functioned flawlessly. We rented a small SUV (Jeep Compass or similar). We got the Jeep Compass. The vehicle rode rough and had a lot of road noise. I won't hesitate to use Hertz again. read more

Terrible, dangerous Hertz rental experience. Last month I reserved a Hertz "Compact/Nissan Versa or similar" to be picked up at the Omaha Airport. The reservation was for a week and made through the Home Depot Corporate site. My trip was round-trip from Omaha, NE to Columbus OH, approx. 1800+ miles (plus construction detours). When I arrived to pick up the car, I was the only person at the kiosk. There was no line. The young woman behind the Hertz desk asked me if I was a Hertz Gold member and I said no. I was in the past, but I was in a hurry. She then informed me that if a Gold Member arrived she would stop my transaction midway and I would need to step aside while she helped them first. There was another Hertz employee next to her in the kiosk. She told me that I had been "upgraded" to a midsize car. She handed me the rental agreement for almost twice the cost of my reserved rate. I said, no this is far more than agreed, and she then offered me a Camry for approx. $100 more than the original quote. I didn't want to pay more in rental and gas and said the reserved "Compact" was fine. I told her I was driving to Columbus, OH. She then told me the only available "Compact" car was a Toyota Yaris. I wasn't familiar with the model and I said fine to speed up the transaction before a Gold Member showed up to interrupt my rental. Her entire communication felt like a rehearsed, sleazy, bait and switch routine. Toyota, Edmunds, Consumer Reports, Car & Driver, Car Gurus, ALL consider this a SUB-COMPACT, and it is designed for city driving not open road. Apparently, only Hertz considers this a "Compact/Nissan Versa or similar". The wind was very strong across the flat Plains and caused the car to feel like it was being pushed left into the next lane (despite my death grip on the wheel) for the entire trip paired with road construction for about 80-90% of the distance. This phenomenon is described in some Yaris reviews. I was so frightened that I called Hertz Roadside Assistance from Ohio to see if I could switch cars to return to Omaha. There was nothing available and it would have cost me a fortune anyway. The wind was so strong on the way home I had to stop for another night in a hotel because I couldn't drive faster than 55-60 mph. I felt very lucky to have made it home alive. Also, the entire back seat was visibly filthy with stains. I have photos. I covered it with towels before I could put anything on it. That Omaha Hertz Rep's routine would be more expected at a fly-by-night, corner used car lot. Worst car rental experience EVER. read more

I travel extensively and have Gold / Presidential Level. Standard profile is a vehicle with GPS. Once again, I arrived at Hertz-OMA and the vehicle set for me was not GPS equipped. Hey, It's in my Hertz profile as well as on the reservation. Offered a mini-van, no thanks. Thank you to my iPhone and Siri for getting me to my destination and back to OMA. The car was fine. The service was horrible. When I returned the car with a full tank of gas (clearly indicated on the gauge), the woman asked me if I had the receipt from the gas station proving that I had filled it. When I said no, that I never print the receipt, she asked if I could prove it some other way. Of course, I couldn't, so she said she was charging me $14 for the express fuel charge because I had driven less than 75 miles and had no proof of filing the tank (despite the full gauge). When I challenged her and asked why I wasn't informed of the policy when I picked up the car, she said they have a sign posted and the policy is in the fine print of the contract.
