I have been renting with this Hertz location for several months this year and they are great. No issues with car supply and no long lines. This is the worst place to rent a car from. My wife reserved a seven passenger SUV two days in advance for a funeral out of town we were supposed to attend when we went to pick up the vehicle there was a woman ahead of us that the agent Jessica was helping. The lady who Jessica was helping got upgraded to an SUV our SUV we were supposed to rent. When it was our turn to talk to Jessica she was very rude told my wife and I to find a car ourselves and she couldn't cancel our rental. I'm Hertz Gold and have rented from them for over 20 years. I travel a lot and rent from others too, so I know good service. I tried to rent a full size, got there mid-morning, they took my info and then "tried" to up-sell me. I politely declined. We walk outside to and he stands there and says "well we don't have your size available, you can pick one of these premium cars but I'll have to charge you extra". This happens often at all rental locations and 100% of the time they just stick me in the next class up and I'm on my way. Not today. He asked that I wait there and then a few minutes latter an extremely rude person comes out almost yelling "we tried to call you, we tried to call you". I told him I don't know what he's talking about. No "hey I'm so sorry first", just accusing me that he called. I was shocked that I missed his call and I apologized. So I pulled out my phone with him standing there and see no missed calls. I pulled up my call log, while he watches and I see no calls (incoming or out going this morning). He then absolutely starts yelling "I don't know anything about that" and storms off and went inside. Wow, what a reaction to being proved a liar. Now I'm standing there, no rental car without paying more, no ride back home and no one from Hertz to ask "hey, can you help me get a car". I understand running out of a class of cars, it happens. I also understand being polite from start to finish of any transaction will yield both sides satisfied. So I kept my calm and walked inside and tried to get help. No luck, just more indignation that they tried to call. I could have broke down and bowed to their pressure which amounts to "bait and switch" and is illegal, but I just called a friend to come get me and rented with someone else. Elijah Wright- nice try but these reviews are in fact true! You personally told me today that the Tesla I reserved was not on your lot today. Then proceeded to tell me you were doing the best you could. While in the next breath telling me I could wait for the car to arrive, however when I asked if it would be minutes or hours you could not tell me anything. Why does it mean nothing to make a reservation ahead of time? Meanwhile I had a reservation and there was a Tesla, the car I had rented because of a hertz promo that was sent to my email, right in front of this location. It was reserved for someone who was an hour late for their pick up. Yet my reservation was of zero impact. Ironically my reservation was for 11am as well. So you were never going to be able to have two individuals getting that car, yet zero communication from your location- what about prodigious service . Then to add insult I was given a phone number to call to cancel my reservation, simply because my rental pick up time had passed. Because according to you this is how the system works! Your team helped me in no way! I'm wondering if a reservation at this location is always just a shot in the dark because people make reservations for a reason and I was not the only one today that was inconvenienced by people not returning cars on time. 9/16/24 Still have not heard from ANYONE in the company! Not the Hertz company from the past! Very disappointed! 8/15/24 H34379376 I returned a rental car to Hertz on 6001 Nieman Road Shawnee, Ks (59 days while my car was repaired after being rear ended on 435). Elijah Wright was the only one on duty. He said the car was filthy, tossed the car mats out of the car, got angry, and reported he would add $180 cleaning fee, unless I go vacuum it. At that point I was feeling uncomfortable and threatened. I asked to speak to the manager, and he said he was the manager. I asked several times for his manager's name, and he refused at first, then finally said his first name very fast. I asked him for the keys, told him I felt unsafe, and would return it tomorrow with other people present. He refused, and said I returned the car, and he was done. I called the police for my safety. The police came, got my receipt, and Elijia filed a no trespassing order for one year. I called today to get his manager's name, he said I got what I wanted by calling the police, and he hung up on me. I called another local store and finally got the manager's name who is on leave: Xavier Urbina. I would like to talk to him and file an incident report. I have been a Hertz customer for years and have never been treated poorly. A customer should not be treated like this, and Elijia should be counciled on customer etiquette and compassion. If you want the worst customer service, this location is for you. You'll get your fill of rudness and abuse. 3 months early, I booked a car, I thought at mci, kansas city airport. I paid the reservation in full. I received email confirming details and not at mci. I mapped it to find it's 30 miles from the airport. I called and because the reservation was booked and inexpensive, nothing can be done. So OK I'll Uber it to the location. When I get there customer service rep tells me there is no car available. I explain I just paid Uber $70 to get here, you must have something. Yes for a lot more money. This is called bait and switch and is illegal. Let me explain bate and switch. You order something and when you arrive they say that they do not have it but they have something that's more expensive for you. I am upset because I have just traveled 10 hours on a plane and $70 with Uber to make it to the location and the representative has attitude. He calls the police. The police arrive and we find out the Hertz representative called the police saying I was abusive to my wife. When police ask my wife if she's OK. She says yes. They ask, did anybody touch or push her. She says that the hertZ representative did not touch her or push her, not realizing that police were called because me her husband might be abusive. When they finally realize that she has not been harmed in any way and we began to explain what has happened, The police officers tried to intervene for us. The Hertz representative is a complete jerk. He even pisses off the police officers. The police repeatedly encourage the hertz to help us but he is just crazy rude. Today is the 2nd time that the clerk has made me come all the way across town to fuck me over on a rental car. I called him earlier today because I was referred by another location and told they might have vehicles. So before I called him I made a 2nd reservation for that location just in case. So I give him a call and tell him the situation he looks up my earlier reservation and tells me that he had a car available but the only thing is I have to return to his location. That's not a problem. He then gives me a 1-800-654-3131 number to call and tells me to cancel my recent reservation for his location because he is using my previous reservation. So to be sure I don't get charged a no show fee. It's raining like hell so I spend $30 on an Uber to get a ride here so my finance isn't driving in this weather with my son. I get here to the location and he asked me for my drivers license and credit card then he tells me oh your name isn't showing up on my list!! I said what do you mean you just told me on the phone you had my previous reservation and gave me the details. And said you had a car for me. He's like yea but I didn't think you were coming so I rented the vehicle to someone else. How in the hell do you think I'm not coming when I just told You on the phone I was on my way. He said well you canceled the reservation. I said bro you told me to cancel the freaking reservation and gave me the 1-800 number but my other reservation you said you were using is still active. Well idk what to tell you. So then I ask him for the number to corporate and he tells me to look it up. I had to tell him again to give me the number. So he finally gives me the number and when I asked for his name he refused to give it to me. But this is the customer service that HERTZ employees to run locations. He finally gives me the name Travis and when I dial the number to corporate he takes his stuff and walk out back and sit around back there waiting for time to go by. I get corporate in the line and she proceeds to call him but of course he's not inside because he knew they'd be calling. I had to physically go out back and get him as he sitting down watching videos on his phone. Corporate finally calls back and he lies and tells her he couldn't rent me a car because other people had reservations for tomorrow and can't break their contracts. This is the worse customer service I have ever experienced and the crazy part this is the 2nd time it's happened to me at this location with the same individual. The first time I saw him do the same thing to an individual that was booking on his corporate account as well. Found out the guy lied about his name after the fact and it's ad because he's apparently the assistant manager and his name is Trevor. Never would I expect a business to operate so poorly read more

Absolutely horrible! I have been in customer service positions my ENTIRE LIFE and if I ever interacted with a customer as uselessly I would have been fired! Reservation made on-line but when I got to the location they were over-sold! Corporate needs to do better! I get it, you can't do what you can't do... however..... My husband simply asked "Why does corporate allow this?" and the response was .... don't yell at me! He didn't even raise his voice! I asked for any suggestions.... he said to try the airport location.... they MIGHT have something. I am from out of town, he knew this and the airport is a 25 min drive. I had a great experience with hertz. Got my car stolen so insurance covered a rental and while the insurance company was a pain to work with, Hertz was not. They made it as smooth of a process as it could be working with insurance, so I really appreciated that! This branch in Shawnee also come through for us when another Hertz branch was way behind and couldn't help us the day we needed a rental, so that was great as well read more

My mother rented a car from you guys for a family trip to Tennessee. We keep the car for a nice amount of time wonderful experience until the return process. An Asian guy did the final inspection and claimed he smelt "weed" in the car. Didn't say anything until my mother got the receipt and saw an extra $300 charge. We both were flabbergasted. We have very important jobs that don't allow us to partake in those things, don't even like the smell quite frankly. Then when we asked for cards or any information to identify themselves when we talk to costumer service they refused and stated " I don't care who did it, I still smell it. And I don't have to give u any information" while bobbing his head and using hand gestures. We couldn't believe this was actually happening. Not to mention they called police on us because we were "hostile". Completely racially profiled. We felt embarrassed, disgusted, horrific, just overall sick to my stomach after leaving and thought about the situation. 100% DON'T RECOMMEND HERTZ! My experience with Hertz was terrible at multiple levels.  First: I rented a small commercial van from the Nieman Rd location to move my son to Texas. I prepaid the contract online to save a little bit of money. (FORESHADOWING HERE...BIG MISTAKE).  The contract stated that it would be ready and available on Thursday, April 15th at 1:00. When I arrived to pick it up, I was told that they didn't have one available.  The rep showed NO interest in finding one for me and absolutely had no empathy for my situation. She appeared to not care at all. I requested that she contact her manager/franchise owner to see what she could do and to call me back. Over two hours went by and I didn't hear anything from her so I called back. Again, with ZERO empathy, apologies or care she said that she would have one the next morning, washed and ready to go by 8:15am.  Second: When I arrived at 8:15am the next morning, Friday, April 16th, there was a new person, a "Manager Associate" working. The van was there but  he then proceeded to tell me that since I prepaid the rental, I would have to pay the full amount for the four days. Of course I was shocked and disagreed. Why in the world would I pay for the day that I didn't have the van? I asked for him to credit me the difference, but he said that because I prepaid, his system wouldn't let him and instructed me to call customer service. Again, with zero empathy or apologies.  I then called customer service, was on hold for 45 minutes before speaking to someone who told me that the only way to credit me for the difference was to accept the rental van as is and then the day after I returned it, I could call back to customer service and they would then be able to refund the extra day. Of course this upset me worse and I felt like it was some sort of scam, but I had to take the rental in order to help my son move. No other places in town had a van available so I was stuck. Okay... I'm going to leave out the bit of information here on how bad the van was to use for moving two states away without cruise control... but take my word, the Dodge Commercial Vans are just bad. So my third situation with this: Today, Tuesday May 20th, I called customer service. Remember, this is the day that the previous customer service rep promised me that I would be able to receive my refund of the day the van was not available, as per the contract. So of course after another 45 minute hold, a rep finally answered the phone. I explained the situation and she replied back that her system would not allow her to refund the day's rental fee. She did offer a credit of $25 for a future rental. WHAT??!! First of all, that $25 is less than half of the price I paid for the day I didn't have the van, which is insulting enough, but why in the world would I ever want to go through this hassle with Hertz again? And secondly, I feel that Hertz is committing fraud and I am being ripped off. The contract stated that I was to be provided a van on Thursday, not Friday. And I paid for everything in advance so I am entitled to a full refund of that day. I asked to speak to her manager, but was told that he/she was unavailable and would return my call within 24 hours. The Customer Service Manager never called me back, but 48 hours later some "Supervisor" called me and offered a $50 credit toward a future rental. Then she said that she was the highest level person in customer service. INSANE. I know it is only $55.00 but it shouldn't be this difficult to receive a refund for a day that Hertz DID NOT provide a vehicle that was paid for. (Not to mention all of this time, effort and frustration that this has caused me.) read more

Had to book with a competitor instead for three times the price because of short notice. All in all Hertz's lie cost me $400. I asked the Hertz rep what a reservation does. Received a call the day before my trip that they wouldn't give me the keys to a car I rented 6 months ago because they can't afford a 1-way rental at this time. They are just too busy. If I could give less stars I would. I had a reservation to pick up a car for a three day rental. I needed to leave a personal vehicle for one night. I arrived at 11:45 am. I was told I could not leave my vehicle overnight. I asked the attendant (EJ) where I could possibly park. EJ said there was nowhere to park. I told him I would need to cancel the reservation. And left. I then thought to text my friend who works for the city and was told where I could park safely. I did that and walked back to Hertz. It was 11:59. I told EJ I found a spot and was told my reservation was already cancelled and they were closed now. My reservation was 12:00 noon! EJ just wanted to go home. I don't rent a lot of cars but when I get into a pattern that calls for it, I rent consistently. This was the worst. Completely disrupted my plans. Did not matter I was a Hertz Gold member! EJ just wanted to leave for the day. When I looked and saw it was 12:00 on the dot I got even more upset. I will never use Hertz again! read more

We've rented several times from other rental locations but the last few trips we've taken we've come back to this location because of the customer service. Kyle is always really friendly and helpful. This location deserves 0 stars. The employees lack training. My husband who worked at enterprise had to help the employee find the rental reservation because he didn't know how to. I had to call the insurance company several times to confirm the reservation number as the employee was telling me that wasn't correct. Took almost an hour to get a vehicle because of how untrained this employee was. Went to walk around the car. Four huge dents on the door. He tries to convince me those are normal songs and dents. I had a reservation at this location but when I arrived, there was a note on the door saying the location was closed and I was to call a different Hertz location to handle my rental. Of course, the phone number given just rings; constant busy signal (been trying to call for 90 minutes). The note on the door did not give an address for the other Hertz location. It seems hard to believe this company would not provide some form of advance notice to customers, aside from just a note on the door once you have already arrived to pick up your car. Slow service. Had a business trip and they delayed me. I booked the car over the phone...that's where I messed up. I needed the car at 7:30am when they opened, but they had me picking the car up at noon.. (I'm thinking that's their default setting.) When I arrived at 8am there was a decent line of people waiting...each customer took forever...then when I thought I was ready and checked out, I had to wait another 20 minutes for them to clean and refuel the car because it wasn't ready. One star is too generous. I had a scheduled and confirmed appointment to be picked up at Shawnee Mission Ford at 8am. SMF called Hertz at 800am and was informed. "were on our way". After 3 more calls. I was pickup at 915. Upon arriving back at Hertz, I was informed the only car they had was the suv I was picked up in. I could take that car and return it when they got a midsize or I could pay an upcharge. The gentleman behind me (also with a reservation) was told to come back later. The manager Alex, at this location needs to be avoided at all costs! He over charges and works hard to inconvenience his customers, while being sure that he is entitled to all the luxuries of his manger's position. To get him to actually talk with you AFTER he over charges you, is a multiple phone call 45 day odyssey. The Overland Park location on Metcalf is less than 3 miles and the manger actually knows how to treat customers and will work to correct the mistakes of others!!!! And you can see from the reviews I am not the only one! My insurance company had reserved a car for me, while my car was repaired. Alex was driving the car that I was seeking. So I was offered a mini-van for the day and could return 5 hours later to pick-up a compact. Then I was charged a $50 dollar cleaning with no basis, and since I returned it to the dealership and not the store, he believed that I had no proof in order to refute. If it were possible to give 0 stars, that would have been more accurate. I PREPAID for a SUV vehicle rental for the weekend to attend our daughters' out of state soccer tournament. I had planned to pick up the car at 10 but had an emergency and got there at 2pm to pick up our car. Imagine my dismay when I was informed that they had waited an hour and then rented my car to someone else. So Hertz got double the rental on the same vehicle - brilliant for their bottom line but not so great for the customer. Kyle Sims, the Branch Manager only offered to rent us a much larger vehicle for more money and threatened to call the police if my husband didn't leave because he was very upset and got loud. We were very late getting on the road but were able to walk across the street and rent an SUV from Enterprise - they were incredibly accommodating and happy to have our business.
