Had a reservation, when I showed up 30 minutes prior I was told they didn't have a car for me. I was told by the manager that I should have called them ahead of time to make sure they had a car for me. What's the point of making a reservation if that's the case? And if they didn't have one, they should have called me ASAP. I'm not their employee and it's not my job to manage their reservations. Rented a one way rental from Long Beach dropping off in Sonora. Everything went great but I accidentally left a bag in the trunk. Called the Hertz office and they said they'd grab it and I could pick it up the next day. I returned to pick it up the next morning and a worker found it in the back room. Here's where the problem begins. I had put a really expensive bottle of wine in the bag and when I opened it the bottle was gone. There is zero chance anyone but a Hertz employee took it. I have had the most amazing experiences with Kendra. Last month I needed a rental and she was so helpful had me in and out of there so quick and this month I hit a deer and needed a rental and she not only remembered me but helped me out and was so friendly and had amazing customer service. She was prompt and fast she even dealt with a rude customer who slammed a door with such professionalism. If it was up to me, there would be ZERO stars. My experience with Hertz was awful. My husband and I were promised that there would be a car ready for us as soon as we arrived to their office. So, trusting that they are a "experienced" rental company, we drop our car off at the body shop and expect that since they are picking us up that we will be set to get a car and drive home. After sitting and waiting for hours, complication after complication, running from the bank and receiving authorizations, they finally say "Oh, wait..I didn't realize that he's 24 not 25....we cannot rent you guys a car." What??? You looked at his ID how many times? Now, we're stranded. My husband, my one year old son who is sick, and myself are stuck here in the middle of Sonora. We live an hour away....it's 100 degrees. Why didn't you tell us BEFORE picking my husband up and promising that he is all set to rent this car, that it will not be possible with him being one year shy of 25... Not to mention, they were extremely rude and unprofessional the entire time. Their office is a portable office, run down and trashy... I would expect more from a company that is charging you $35 a day for a Nissian... WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL!! read more

We picked up at car at 2:00 pm on a Wednesday afternoon. First of all, was told the gas tank was full, my husband drove straight to a gas station and put in $10 worth of gas, so not so full after all! The vehicle was dirty inside and out, had clearly not even been washed after the previous renter. The rental agent never got up out of her seat to inspect the vehicle; Just handed us keys. On the drive home the transmission kept slipping. Immediately called the Hertz office but no answer so he took the car back down, now it's only about 2:30-2:45 and they are closed! Had to leave at 6 am the next morning to catch a flight. Just happy he made it to the airport without any trouble. This was not the first time we've had bad service at this location. I booked in advance and with my csfa discount it was still slightly more expensive than the competition. When I mentioned that, they gave me an additional discount. I called a day in advance to make sure they had the car. We got there about two hours later than planned. The man said he had given up on us and only had one car left! Thank goodness we came when we did. As we were packing, we saw another couple come up maybe to rent and it would have been gone! Car handled well. 2015 Hyundai Accent with 5k miles to start. I was getting way over the expected gas mileage for a week trip to Vegas. Comfortable enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. (We are small people if that makes any difference). We squeezed all our stuff in - barely. Well worth renting for peace of mind and good air conditioning! It made me consider purchasing one or similar type in the future when I originally though it would be too small of a vehicle for my taste. read more

I tried to call and get a quote and they will only give you a verbal estimate over the phone. The lady I spoke with casually added in, once you are there and you get the car then they go over additional cost. All I wanted was an out the door cost for a rental for two days. Once she figured out I wasn't leaning towards them, she asked me in a snappy way if I wanted to make a reservation. I Said no, and her attitude totally changed and she was very short and basically hung up the phone before I could say goodbye. DO NOT USE! State Farm reserved us a vehicle at this Hertz location while our truck was in the shop. Hertz confirmed with us, but when we called to say we were on our way to pick up the rental we were told all rentals were out for the weekend. They didn't honor their contract with State Farm. We had to scramble last minute. USE ENTERPRISE INSTEAD on Mono Way. Female Hertz rep was very rude, would not explain how our rental was given to someone else -- her answer was to call us if a car came back early! Hertz helped me when I felt helpless! Enterprise rental REALLY left me stranded in Angels Camp CA. They said they would come for me but didn't. When I called the company, they said that even though their service department booked my car and would come and get me they wouldn't. I was pretty much stranded in Angels Camp CA. After getting a ride to the rental place myself, they said that they didn't have me car because it was a same day rental. No one at they service center told me this, the manager Benjamin didn't either. I decided to call Hertz. Jim of Sonora Hertz said he would wait until I got there which was after closing and he had a car! Jim really helped me when I could have been stranded in Angel's Camp having to accrue another nights hotel expenses because Enterprise booked a reservation that they would not honor! We had a 24hrs rental from airport in Sacramento and was missed informed on the drop off time. When we got there 20 mins late they were closed and there were no place to drop off keys so we were told by the phone service to lock keys inside car. When we called Sonora Hertz to explain the situation they were super rude on the phone and said they were going to call back and never did and charged us for all sort of things. My husband and I were excited to rent an SUV for a quick trip to Idaho for a wedding. Reservation made through the Hertz web site for pick up the day before we leave. Nice Nissan Rogue or similar is what the conformation said, you know 4 doors, seats 5 people, 2 large baggage, 28+ mpg. Perfect for our trip. So I take 2 hours off work to drive to Sonora Hertz. Before we get the paperwork going I ask to see the vehicle, I just want to check the capacity as we are taking a good sized wedding gift. Unfortunately, the people at the Sonora Hertz (Kelly particularly) do not seem to understand the difference between an SUV and a large truck (15+ mpg). Outside we are directed to a large king cab truck, I said no we are supposed to have an SUV, Kelly says yes that's an SUV. No, that's a truck. And this is all they apparently have as we were not given any other choices. We own a king cab truck that gets 15+ mpg, if that is what I was I wanted to drive to the wedding I would drive my own....Not rent. So we did NOT rent from Hertz in Sonora, and I was totally dumbfounded by the rest of the transaction. I asked for a receipt showing the reservation had been cancelled, Kelly was not able to print anything for the cancellation. When I asked how I would know that the reservation is cancelled and I would not be charged, I was told "Because I said so". WHAT? So I then asked if the conformation of cancellation could be emailed to my account on file. Sure she said, I think this was to get me out of the office. I never did receive the cancellation notice but I wasn't charged either. However this is a very POOR business practice and if I was the operator I would be embarrassed by my employees attitude. read more

Consumers Beware!!!! We booked a Malibu or better class vehicle on the AAA (auto club) site. When the vehicle was picked up at Hertz they did not have the Malibu class available therefore we were downgraded to a smaller and lesser qualtity Nissan Altima. The rates are about $40 a week more for the Mailibu vs the Nissan. We were billed at the higher Malibu rate. The local agent was unwilling to correct the billing situation. Stay Clear of these folks. Bait and Switch. To avoid trouble, just call Enterprise up the street. read more

I see Hertz is going downhill - but fast! - I had better service at Rent-a-Wreck. I made my reservation weeks in advance and at pick-up time there was no car for me. The car for the customer in line before me was also not there. They had to go pick it up at the Columbia location themselves. My friend had the same problem when he rented from this location a few weeks ago. The staff was not great at trying to help us. It was like, "We'll get to you when we get to you or if the car shows up you get one - till then, sit tight." Right! What a way to run a company. I'm going back to Enterprise. read more
