Absolutely never renting here again. Not at Hertz and not at this location ever. "It hurts to rent at Hertz should be their slogan." They allow smoking inside of the building. It reeks of cigarettes so bad. The workers don't acknowledge you for 10 minutes. It's a 30 minute wait for the car you're renting, that you had booked weeks in advance, and even called ahead that same day and they said it was ready, you get there and it was not ready. Car was not clean, worker would not run it through the car wash, it had snow and ice all over it. Crumbs all inside the vehicle. Random $100 fee, had to wait 30 minutes on the phone to dispute a random $100 fee that had no description, only for the phone tech to say "the cars tank wasn't filled". We literally got gas right before we returned it, and had receipts. It will take 5-7 business days before that's refunded. Not a good experience at all. read more

I wish I had read the reviews. I booked a Suppliers choice gas vehicle through Priceline. When I got there they claimed I booked electric. I refused to take the electric so they charged me $10 per day for a economy gas vehicle that a bump my head everytime I get in. They also charged me for insurance when I told the girl I had insurance through Priceline. Then I tried to extend my rental for a day because my car wasn't ready. They tried to charge my credit card again like it was a new rental. Stay far away from this place! They are very shady and customer service is nil! Wish I could give them 0 stars! read more

I booked a car through Priceline with Hertz. When I got there, it was supplier's choice, no biggie. But I clicked gas not electric online. They gave me a piece of garbage Tesla, in 3 days, it cost my $50 in charging the damn thing. I took it back and asked to exchange it, they told me it would be at least $20 more per day to exchange it. I told them they can keep it. I turned it in early and they ended up charging me full price per day since I turned it in earlier. So for 3 days, taxes and electricity, I ended up paying $257! What a rip off. AWFUL! AVOID this location. I rented a gas car online from dollar and ended up at this hertz location with a half charged KIA electric car - their only option even though it was not what I pre-booked. The car they gave us was dirty and the staff was super rude. I spent hours on hold with Hertz customer service and the only refund I received was when the billing department asked me why I was charged a Tesla fee when I had a KIA. This location snuck in an added $45 Tesla charge I never would have noticed. The fact that the car was half-charged and not a Tesla basically ruined our entire trip - there were basically no charging locations along our route and we spent half the trip panicked and wasting time at random charging stations. Should of read the reviews about this location before trying to rent here. First off they didn't have any cars available for the type I made a reservation for and the lady who was supposedly 'helping me' ( I'm putting this in quotes because she was rude) said that they only had small SUVs. So I canceled my previous reservation for a midsize car and made a reservation for a small SUV. Then somebody else was helping me, and now they informed me that they don't have this type of car only large SUVs, which they could've specified before. If you remember, the last person told me, they only have small SUVs. So basically they just run around and try it to upsell you to try to take your money. (Oh how i hate to wait) please note - if you do decide to use a debit card, then please make sure you have $200 extra available; if not, then you request would be declined more likely. Beware of their normal product pushing.... additional insurance, upgrade vehicle, and gas refill. If you are using a weekly rate, then you most know if you return early then you're daily rate will range between $45 to $50 a day instead of the special. read more

Terrible. Arrived in Southfield and immediately the clerk told me he doesn't have my car. Then, came out of the office and apologized. Then, found out this branch doesn't take DEBIT (even though I made the reservation with DEBIT). The clerk told me that Novi branch accepted debit and I had to drive there to get my rental. Upon arrival, the clerk said they didn't have the rental and it was coming from Livonia plus they still had to clean it. It was a MASSIVE headache and I was late to my meeting because of this. Why do SOME branches accept debit while others don't? Also, WHY can you reserve a car online with a DEBIT card, but the branch doesn't accept it? Even the Southfield clerk said the system is so "jacked up" with all that. I also woke up this morning to another $50 charge to my bank with no receipt. I don't think it's worth calling about because of the headache I encountered face-to-face. I can't imagine what it would be like on the phone. I would give them zero stars if I could. This place has the absolute worst customer service and you're not even guaranteed a car with a reservation. I called to reserve a car and they said they would have it in an hour. I came within the time frame and was asked for the confirmation number. The lady proceeded to tell me they wouldn't have any cars that day. She was not sorry for any confusion nor did she offer to do anything to accommodate me. When I was sitting in the lobby waiting for an Uber to come back and get me, she and one of they guys went and hid in the back loudly talking about the situation and were laughing. I did not show any disrespect towards them just asked why would you tell me you have a car ready on the phone? Hertz in Dearborn was OUTSTANDING! I rented on a third-party website looking for the best deal for a holiday weekend getaway. Called the office to confirm and no answer (they need voicemail!) Called back and spoke with the manager, Donny, and he is a gem!! The third-party website was not supposed to allow for holiday returns but he would honor it. Picked up the car and got an upgrade from a Malibu to a cross over! Returned the car and got a follow up from Donny personally. The Ford Crossover was ridiculously clean (leather interior and push button start) and handled like a dream plenty of extras including touch screen and both phones could charge via USB. This isnt a nice review, as that would have had to be earned. I arrived in Phoenix on Saturday March 20th at 9.30am and had to wait in line for over an hour to get my rental car. When I finally reached the attendant at the counter there was actually no car ready. In fact they had no cars at all available except if I were to upgrade for an extra $210. After going back-and-forth with the attendant he gave me a larger car and said it would be ready in 20 minutes. It's now 11.30am, as we headed downstairs to the garage to the pickup zone where there is no sign that says pick up zone. There were so many people down there waiting for a car and no one new where the pickup zone was. People were just walking up-and-down the aisles looking for their car. Toward 12 o'clock possibly 1230 a attendant said just grab any car you can find. People were so angry. I told the attendant No as I didn't want to be stopped and arrested for stealing a car, but he assured me they would put it in the computer before leaving the garage. We ended up in a Malibu which was fine, but it was the principle of the whole ordeal. We got there at 9:30 a.m. and we didn't leave Phoenix until 1:30 p.m. due to the incompetency of Hertz employees. Obviously our day that we had arranged to go to a National Park was completely ruined as it was a 2 and a 1/2 hour drive to our destination. I feel that Hertz isn't an honest or fair company. This is the second time I have had a bad experience with Hertz. Customer service is very poor. Management is deceitful . I called the location at 8:32am on the day of my reservation to ask for a transportation ride from the location I would need pick up from. I was told to call back when I arrived there. I called back when I arrived and was told that I would receive a message shortly about my "lyft" then I waited 10-15 minutes didn't receive a message so I called back, the same lady told me to keep waiting it will be coming soon (the message) after waiting 20 more minutes I called back and was placed on hold. When the lady got back on the phone she told me "we don't pick ppl up farther than 5 miles" at this point I am very confused to why I was never told this so I've been waiting at this location for an hour when I could have made other arrangements. When I got to the Hertz location I asked the lady to "see the manager" and with a poor attitude she told me "I'm helping a customer right now" I waited and waited she even got up and went into the office where the manager was to retrieve some keys for a guest and didn't tell him I wanted to speak with him! It wasn't until I seen the manager walking by that I stopped him and explained everything! At this point I am 1hour and a half late for my reservation. The manager promises to give me a discount because of all the disrespect and inconvenience but he only gave me $10 off my rental. I paid $30 to get a ride to this location because of their poor communication! I will absolutely never again RENT FROM HERTZ! Wouldn't recommend it! First of all, the front desk attendant was not attentive at all. Never asked if I had any questions or concerns. Now let's get to the real review. Hertz charged my credit card the amount of the rental plus $200 deposit...no big deal I knew that. So I returned the car on Sunday (the office is closed) 2 hours before i was supposed to. I returned it at 3:02pm to be exact. So Monday I woke up to an alert that hertz charged me $119.00. Then 2 hours later $170. So I called corporate and they said the $119.00 was an authorization charge because the Southfield location had not closed out the rental and it looks like I still had the car. Okay no problem but the $170 was the final charge of the rental. Now I did see they refunded me the initial authorization from Friday. But why is my final amount $170 and not $157 like my agreement said? Where is the extra fee coming from? Corporate told me they charged me a late return fee? What?!?! First of all, I returned it 2 hours early and how in heck would they know I returned it late if they were closed? And of course, the Southfield location not answering their phone. Needless to say, the $119 and the late fee will be refunded back to my account but why all these unnecessary charges and refunds have to be on my account. I was having a rough day after visiting a few other car rental places EVAN, the manager was really helpful, friendly and he was very attentive. He ever went over and beyond his call of customer service duty to make things a little easier than what they already were to rent the vehicle. The service was fast, It only took me five minutes to rent a vehicle....all I needed to provide them with was my drivers license..it was just that easy. This is my second time using this location and this company and experience has always been a good one. They always have extremely friendly staff. If I could give zero stars I would. I called in an advance to see if I could use a debit card for the deposit, and was told yes. When I arrived a female employee told me that that isn't true. Customer service across the board is also poor. The young lady I worked with at the rental counter was extremely rude and hardly spoke or gave any details regarding the rental. The vehicle was not up to par, and smelled like tobacco for the majority of the rental period, and of course, no Hertz location had comparable vehicles available to switch at the same cost. In addition, the vehicle was returned 8 days ago, but there is still a pending hold on my account for the amount of the deposit. Customer service, both on the 800 number and the on line chat, is horrible all around and unavailable to give any tangible solutions either. I am very disappointed in the service that I received at Hertz in Canton, Michigan located on Michigan Avenue. I rented a vehicle for EIGHT Weeks from there and spent nearly $4,000. When the charges posted to my credit card, I found that there was an additional fee for $300 on my credit card. I tried calling customer service regarding the charge and found that I was charged for a smoking fee. Since I had not smoked in the car, I thought this was strange. I was advised to call the location I rented from regarding reversing the charge. When I called I spoke to David and advised the reason for my call. I advised that the car had not been smoked in and he advised that even if the vehicle is not smoked in, if it smells like smoke, they will charge the fee. I explained that I rented the vehicle for 8 weeks and even if the car was not smoked in being a smoker if your clothes smell like smoke and you get in the vehicle, after eight weeks the car will begin to smell like smoke. David assured me he would look into this matter because he understood my frustration. I PATIENTLY waited four weeks and after not receiving a call back, I called the location back today. I spoke to David again and explained that I was disappointed that I had not received a returned telephone call. I reviewed the situation again and he placed me on hold and came back to the line and said he had spoken to his GM and he advised they will not reimburse for the fee because that would mean that just because I spent almost $4,000 that does not change anything because it had a smoke smell even if it was not smoked in. I advised that while I understand the policy now that it does not matter if you smoke inside of the vehicle or outside of the vehicle the written policy appears that there is not smoking inside of the vehicle. I asked that they consider the amount of time the vehicle was rented, the smoke smell overtime may transfer to the fabric seats even not being smoked in because it is on your clothes. It has become evident to me that in the midst of a pandemic these vehicles are not being properly cleaned. There is no way that with using disinfectant to sanitize the cars properly that every car does not smell sanitized. I am unsure if this is a way to have customers pay more money to sustain the business through a difficult time, but please beware customers. Very bad business practices... read more

I hate to have rented the car from them. If it was possible I would give them zero star rating. They are scamming me for $725 LDW [Loss Damage Waiver] charges. I got rear ended last month and so rented the car from them under AAA's rental coverage after a car accident and accepted the LDW for 2 days only. Now when I went to return the car this week, they say LDW was extended bcz AAA extended the contract. The branch manager is saying that he explained it to me that it will get extended once AAA extends the contract and if I don't want it then I have to go there personally and cancel it but he did not give me all this information. According to me the LDW was only for 2 days for which I also have a receipt. The sad part is that me and my boyfriend discussed this with them when renting the car from them and still they did not have the courtesy to let us know this important piece of information. Now they are saying that it's in the contract and I signed it. They are just looting people here by giving incomplete information and making us sign and then putting the blame on us. Moreover, when I called the branch manager to sort this issue out, he hanged up on me in the middle of the talk. This is how they do business there. So, if you don't want to suffer like me then save yourself and do not rent from this location. One of the employees was extremely courteous, the other abandoned him multiple times to make personal calls and didn't know what he was doing when the good employee called him inside to the desk to help. I used Amex Travel online, as is required by my company as usual, chose the "Navigation System" option, but the staff at this location wasn't used to seeing it noted in the remarks section on their end and blamed me for it. They didn't have a nav system for me which obviously caused me issues and safety concerns. Also, the trunk still had a bunch of junk in it which I walked back to return and of course the second employee was outside on his cell phone again. Also, I asked for an EZ Pass. They gave me one and said I had to call the customer service number to transfer the vehicle which I've never had to do before. Good thing I did, though, because I was told that the EZ Pass had expired. They almost sent me with an expired pass. And they didn't have a different one to give me. This location is terrible and has led me to seriously question if I will use Hertz at all anymore. read more
