Do not rent from here. $125 rental they've charged $800 and never contacted me back after a no fault accident. Left me stranded 3 hours in the snow after saying they'd have a tow truck and replacement vehicle sent. NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AFTER CALLING SEVERAL DAYS. Then they charged my card 4x the amount two weeks later. It's been 3 weeks and the manager called me back, saying he'd refund the erroneous charges as he didn't know anything about the accident! This is after leaving SEVERAL messages and calls. He NEVER called me back and did not refund the charges! I was placed on hold EVERY time I called and was not answered. I rented a full size car , Nissan Altima for a day to take my daughter to a college open house . The cost of the rental was $17.00 which was very shocking being that the other well known agencies were double if not triple that . I arrived at Payless at 7am and the agent wasn't very friendly but not rude either , the process was quick and the car was clean . I returned later that evening to return the car and all I had todo was drop the car and keys along with the contract on the counter . They were crowded with people picking up cars at that time but so were the other rental agencies . I would use them again . read more

Their customer service turns out to be better than I thought. They reviewed the issue and resolved it. My confusion was that the guy I talked to indicated he was opening a new ticket, but they used the original ticket for just sending me a receipt copy. My main complaint now is that I would have been overcharged and not noticed if I didn't see the charge on my credit card bill. Payless = Get Less. Terrible experience, pure bait and switch for the rental at the DTW location. Reserved a SUV a week prior, they offered one of two compact cars at the same rate (the only vehicles they had in stock). No apology, explanation, or advanced warning of the lack of an SUV in stock. Waste of time and money, pay a bit more for a reliable rental company. Do not expect to receive what you reserve/pay for with Payless. Will never go back and strongly advise everyone else to do the same. read more

**********Fraud*******Alert****** Ordered my car over Orbits paid for three weeks. Got to detroit and the place going into it was sketchy a small little office. The lady was nice enough. 1)Most car rentals do a walk around the car and let you write down if there was anything on it before you leave. Not this place .. First warning sign* The car was dirty inside and run down. I had to clean it. I don't keep my own car dirty like this. 2) i had to return the car two weeks early. When i returned the key i asked for my refund. They said it would be on my card in 2 days. I wanted it in writing they refused to give me anything in writing they guy was so terribly rude and started yelling at me. I told him i wasn't leaving until i had something in writing. He wrote the amount in a pen and signed it and said there you go. I knew they weren't going to refund me. So i called then two days later they said give them nine days. After nine days they said I have to file a claim online which is a bunch of run around if I ever heard of it. So now I need to file a clim with my credit card company and I'm filing a claim with BBB. Stay away! This was the worst experience I have ever had with a so called professional company. I gave it one star because the car did run..without problems and it was super great on gas. read more

On a business trip with my husband. He was trying to be thrifty with his company expenses. Rented from Payless Car Rental thinking it would be the best route however, turned out to be bad service. Their Detroit office looks like they ripped a counter from another office, missing floor tiles, and overflowing trash cans. Not to mention, the employees look so unprofessional working in their casual clothes wearing hats off to the side. Seriously!! Who runs an office like that?? We walked over to our car only to find it was dirty inside and outside. Now we are waiting AGAIN for it to be cleaned. My husband's schedule is now thrown off because this office does not have an idea of how to take care of their customers. He usually rents from Hertz and is in and out within 10 minutes. The actual staff working at this location are great. This location, however, does appear to be under-staffed and some of the car rentals have a lot of mileage on them. The experience I had with Payless Car Rental national customer service center that you can reach by phone was absolutely terrible. I was in communication with George C. who is a manager at their customer service center and felt that the service was not well at all. Overall, I would not recommend renting a car from Payless. I feel many would be much better off paying a little more for a better renting experience. read more

Customer service was nonexistent. Prepaid for a compact car and they gave us a Ford Fiesta. AC was not working and found out midway to the airport. They were already closed so we waited until the morning to exchange it. Staff didn't believe us and they drove it around and was like oh sorry. They said that the car was not maintained so that's why it was in the shape that it was. I asked them where the maintainable man was and they didn't know. Awful staff. Just rent from somewhere else.
