Called me at 12 minutes past my reservation start time from a San Francisco phone number, no voicemail, and because I didn't answer marked my prepaid reservation as a no show and then gave the only vehicle in the area suitable for my reservation to someone else. I asked him if I can get my stuff out before he moved it.. there was plenty of space for other vehicle to navigate through the parking lot, but he insisted and sis I can get my stuff after he parked the car in an empty spot. Maybe he was mad because I parked in front of the office? I thought they would want that so they can check in the vehicle then get it over to the next spot over for their person to wash it... but it was our first go a Hertz. We are members at Enterprise. The manager is hostile to customers. I asked if there were any other cars in the mid size range and the manager refused any other car than the Elantra. I was told I would need to spend $19-20 more per day, or $140 more, for the week if I wanted to "upgrade" to another car. Other car rental companies routinely offered me a choice of cars. I used to travel a lot on business, and I can say this was the worst car rental experience I have had. They made me return after one week, in order to get a better price ($50 lower) for the next week. They gave me the same car, which was dirty on the outside and they did not clean it. I waited in a long line for this nonsense of closing out the first rental contract, only to be given the same car. This all could have been done by phone, but they were punishing me for trying to get the lowest advertised price. I called for 2 days by phone before returning the vehicle. The first day they hung up on me once and all other calls to their phone number just rang and rang. The second day they had an error message on their phone. I returned the weekly rental 4 days early, and was totally ripped off. The manager charged me $51 per day when the Hyundai Elantra had been advertised online as a $21 per day rental. I told him this was wrong and he overcharged me anyway. I let him know I was in a hurry to close out the contract because the auto body shop called and asked me when I was coming because they were closing soon. He took his sweet time and it seemed like he did it on purpose to be spiteful. Do not rent at Hertz Ventura! The manager provides terrible customer service. It seems like he is trying to ruin Hertz' business and make the customers very sorry they rented from Hertz. His employee was very nice and helpful. read more

Poor selection of cars (did not have the car I reserved or a suitable replacement) and not well-staffed (long waits to pick up and then difficult to return the vehicle). I found the staff to be overwhelmed but not overly concerned about my or anyone else's happiness. They were defensive about the smallest details, like they were doing me a favor, and made me question Hertz overall as a company. I've traveled all over the country and rented many cars from Hertz. I would say this was my worst experience to date at any car rental company. To add more backstory, I even own Hertz stock in my retirement account, and yet still feel compelled to write this review out of respect for other people. My experience seems to be consistent with recent reviews I have read below. The takeaway: you have other rental car options, and results matter when you are spending your own money, or in this case, spending so much time and energy to even try to do so. The worst costumer service ever. No help at all , seems like the workers didn't even wanted to be there . I got a rental for a few days from my insurance company (Geico) , when I came to return it this morning Rota and Lauren was really rude and very unhelpful. I return the car with a full tank like in the agreement and Rota still wanted to charge me the full tank. After Rota told me it's not full I took this picture and showed it to her and she called me a liar what a great way to start the day! Terrible service! Reserved a rental car and requested a pick up and were told to call them 15 minutes before needed pick up time. When we called back for a pick up we were put on hold, disconnected and back on hold. This went on for too long and when we were asked again to be put on hold we declined. The agent said that they were unable to pick us up as the pick up person left for the day. We were stranded without a car and they didn't even attempt to help us in any way. I was rear ended last week and since my car got towed, I needed a rental car. State Farm insurance referred me here and had all the paper work faxed over. Someone at Hertz was sent to pick me up at my house the same day. They arrived in a timely manner. The car I got picked up in was nice and clean and turned out to be the car they were giving me to rent..a white Ford Escape. The check in was no more than 15 minutes and pretty hassle free. The location was conveniently 15 minutes from my house. Overall, I was happy with the service was I was provided. read more

I signed up for Lyft & the Hertz rental program in late June 2023. A month in I was rear ended & was NOT at fault. Lyft still marked me for the accident and sent a warning email. On Aug 12th 2023 at around 9:30pm I was giving a ride in Koreatown & we ended up stuck in traffic because a crazy guy with a gun was shooting in the street. I safely got us out of there as scary as it was. 2 days later i wake up to "Your Account Was Deactivated For Safety Concerns". On top of that Hertz forgot to mark the car returned when I returned it. I had to call them to ask why my car was still in the system and the guy on the phone said "Oh I forgot, Ill fix it". I still got charged for the extra week I wasn't even driving. Lyft refused to give me my deposit back even after I explained everything. I really just want my deposit back & the extra $69 I had to pay on top of that. read more

Rented a long range electric vehicle. Once I arrived they did not have the car I reserved. Was then told to call a number to cancel. To try and make it easier for them... I asked if there was another long range electric car to take. They put me in a chevy bolt that wasn't long range, nor was it charged all the way!!!!! I have been with Hertz since the 90s. They used to be the best there is in customer service. I have been a good member for a long time. The company has gone downhill severely in the past few years. Their online messaging system is designed to give you conflicting information about your problem and the people don't read the messages. The customer service people don't understand simple English and tell me call emergency roadside assistance and then they say call customer service. I spent hours on the phone going back and forth. If I were the CEO of Hertz I would love to know this. HOWEVER Omateseyin Edah at the Hertz branch in Ventura is a shining light in the darkness. He is dealing with a corporate system that is falling down around him. He does amazing work and great customer service despite the acknowledged tragic failings of his corporate system. If Hertz had more people like him, Hertz would be in top Again. Let us not blame Hertz corporate nightmares for the people who try and do their best. 5 stars for Omatseyin. There really needs to be a zero star option for Yelp reviews. This was the worst car rental experience I've ever had. To make it easier I'm going to list the multiple issues: (1) I called 2 days in advanced to move our rental pick-up from noon to 3pm. The person who answered the phone not only cut me off multiple times, but she placed me on hold by abruptly saying "hang on". (2) The representative I spoke to, 2 days before our pick-up date, informed me I need to call the day of for a pick-up shuttle, so the day of I called and was told it would be between 15 to 20 minutes. We ended up waiting 40 minutes for the shuttle to arrive. I called multiple times asking for an ETA and the guy who picked up was so rude and said "well your reservation was moved to 3 right? Plus there's a wait for the shuttle". He continued to tell me that the shuttle was actually the car we were renting and it had to be picked up from Oxnard since they "ran out of cars". (3) When the shuttle finally arrived, 40 minutes later, it was an SUV not a car. I find out from the person who picked us up there are cars on their lot but they are reserved for other people the next day. I was a little confused considering I reserved a car, not an SUV, almost 4 weeks in advanced. I brought up the issue about the gas and I was told "you're getting an upgrade" (4) The SUV was GROSS. There were chips on the floor, bottle caps, and ketchup on the ceiling of the vehicle. Hand prints all over the windows and the outside of the car looked like it just went through a rain storm. (5) We left Hertz at 3:30pm. 30 minutes later than we wanted to and for that our 7 hour drive turned into a 9 hour drive. If you've ever driven through LA on a Friday, you know 30 minutes make a huge difference. The delay was caused by the paperwork, deposit, and the car having to be vacuumed (we didn't ask for it - this was all for the rental photos they take) (6) When we returned the car we calculated how much more we spent on gas having the SUV vs. a car so we asked for a discount. No discount, not even a simple apology. My advice, go elsewhere. You'll be treated better. read more

Was misinformed of a rental agreement they overcharged and did not send me a receipt I was in a car accident and they overcharged me for the rental. And they took advantage of my situation telling me my insurance company only paid $400 for the rental. The sales person I spoke with had very little lack of knowledge of what was going on was called at 8 am after leaving a very bad review and briefly explained why I was charged the end amount. Do not go through this rental company . The only good thing about this company was the man who picked me up to help me get my car. This place has no knowledge of insurance claims they railroad you with fees and they don't give you any information. I was not offered a diffrent vehicle and I was not notified of any extra charges being added to my card down the road instead upon return of the car they told me they would send me my receipt and it was not sent. Instead a charge was made 6 days after the return of the car. The price changed and I was overcharged as to they pulled money out during the weeks I needed the car and it affected my account as to 6 days down the road an unexpected charge was made on my card without notice. Again I will not give credit to a company who takes advantage of its customers and has a very low lack of knowledge of their own contracts. I was confused baffled upset and irate at the situation the pickup driver I give a 5 star rating hertz rental of Ventura on auto center drive....if I could I would leave a zero star rating but you can get one for taking advantage of a customer who just lost there car to a wreck that was not my fault last month. Again I would not recommend hertz if Ventura due to lack of customer care , experience ,knowledge and information on the cars you rent during a contract. If my insurance company refers me to hertz again I will tell them to find another place due to me being railroaded and felt like they overcharged me and did not give a crap about the final price they charged me with lack of information and I feel used ! Can't beat the price and the fact that they also gave me a AAA discount! They also let me pick up my car a few hours earlier than I had originally planned, which I thought was awesome. The staff was very polite and friendly, however the car we got was very small. I wish I would've known exactly how small it was before renting it, but it turned out to be a great car for our trip! I also recommend that the cars be cleaned better, as it was very dusty inside the vehicle when I got it, plus left over food/bags of chips in the back seat from previous renters. Also the windshield wipers needed to be replaced (they streaked horribly and we had to use them often on our trip as it was very overcast). Other than that, I would rent from this place again mainly because it's very affordable if you're on a budget and I liked the friendly staff! read more

Nope. Never again. I've rented from this Hertz location two other times this year. Those rental experiences had room for improvement but I cut them some slack due to the whole COVID thing. My most recent rental was necessary due to my own vehicle being in the shop for body repair. I did not know how long the repair would take. Ultimately, I phoned the rental location the day I was to return the vehicle to let them know I would need it longer. They did not answer the phone. I left a detailed message on their voice mail. Well, guess what? When I returned the car I was charged $12 per day that the car was late. It was only $36 but I should not have been charged that fee at all. The location that I rented from could not reverse the charge for the late return so they referred me to the corporate customer service number. After an hour on the phone with them I gave up. I explained that I should not be charged the late fee because the King Dr. location doesn't check their messages. The jerk at Hertz Customer Service told me I agreed to call the number listed on my contract to extend the rental. This isn't my first rodeo. I'm a Hertz Gold Member and have rented cars from Hertz on a regular basis. I've also extended my rentals by calling the location that I rented from. I'm not their best customer but I'm certainly not their worst either. The manager, Ruta, would not reply to my request for a returned call. She never seems to be at work either. I then reached out to Hertz headquarters in Florida. They quickly answered the phone and agreed to send me a $36 voucher for a future rental. They were mailing that to me immediately. Three weeks have passed. No voucher. That's okay. I was just going to take it to Enterprise and see if they would honor it. Hertz has lost me forever. Over 36 bucks. What a shame. read more

I heard her say the same thing to another lady who was returning her car when we picked our rental up. There was no mess, just regular vacuuming needed. I've been waiting for 20 minutes already and the other guy behind the counter says it will be another 10 minutes. WTF! I told him my reservation was for 12:30 and asked why the car wasn't ready when I got here. He said they had to give the one that was ready to another car place at 11:30. That was his explanation. This place sucks!!! I put an advance reservation through Expedia for a midsize car at 170 per week decent price. However Expedia has a delayed email response and it was for the Santa Barbara location. While at the counter the rude person who was ticked off at the customer before a says we don't have any of that size. I ask then can you price another car. He then says it's 1900+ for the week I said you have got to be kidding me. This person was just pissed off at life. The store was to close and he was the only person working. Soon I leave pissed but that's not where it ends! The employees name is Johnny. I am out front Ordering an Uber on the way home the person comes out of the store while he has customers with him and 10 more at the counter. I tell him he needs to improve his attitude and he tells me to F&&& Off. He looks like he wants to fight me but does not. He leaves with two customers and still has 10 people waiting. I go back in to talk to a couple used car sales guys who could not care one bit. I have never been so pissed off. All I wanted was to rent a car for the week as one of my cars is being repaired.
