Stopped by after a Costco run and I was immediately enchanted with the almost hidden storefront and patio area of this fabulous coffee shop. Inside it's a Gothic paradise, without feeling too dark or claustrophobic. It's very tasteful in its spookiness. I got a honey latte and a little skull cake. The latte was delicious, and the cake was rich and moist with a crunch caramel glaze. I enjoyed sitting in the air conditioning and playing on my phone for a while. It really feels like a little oasis, and I bet the cocktails are amazing in evening. read more

This place came highly recommended when researching which coffee shops to visit when in Chicago. I'm so glad we stopped in! I have been a barista for years and a coffee drinker for as long as I can remember. There are always a few things I look out for when trying a new place. Ease of ordering: sometimes when you go to a new place you don't know where to order, or where to stand once you've ordered...etc. The POP (point-of-purchase) was very clear as a first-time customer. Cute merch to look at while in line, lots of yummy baked goods to fawn over, and a clear menu to peruse. Service: the barista who took our order was friendly. I wanted a brown sugar latte, but they didn't have any brown sugar. Kind of a bummer, but that's ok. He pointed me to a list of their available flavors. Not all of them were housemade. The baristas making drinks had great vibes. Drinks: we ordered a small hot mocha and a small iced vanilla latte. The mocha was divine. The chocolate did not overpower the espresso, which is often what happens. It was rich and dark but not overly sweet. (Bonus points for super cool hot to-go cups.). The iced vanilla latte was also delicious. The espresso was bright, fresh, and nutty. All notes that I personally enjoy in espresso! Chunky ice cubes. Not my favorite but that's okay. Small thing-- I think they put my drink in a stack of two cups, so when they put my lid on it, it leaked all over. They handed it to me as it was actively leaking and didn't do anything. I asked for napkins and they directed me to where they were. Ambiance: dark and gothic. Framed tarantulas and spooky art...you know the vibe. I love coffee shops that stick out, and this is one of them. Lots of indoor seating, free wifi, and patio seating. It was stunning outside when we went so we enjoyed our coffee outside. Tried out Hexe because I heard they had a nice big patio and we wanted a spot to work outside on this beautiful day. It did not disappoint! Big patio with so much sun. The one downside of the patio was that there were only two tables with umbrellas, which was a bit of a bummer because the sun was so bright it was hard to see the computer screen. We managed to grab one of those tables, though so all was well. The inside of Hexe is super fun. Very dark and witchy. They have good art, which is kind of rare in coffee shops. There was also art for sale that was made by Hexe staff (I think). I think that is such a cool idea! There is so much variety in what they sell. I need to come back for one of their cocktails because they looked soo good. I love that there is food, coffee, tea, beer, wine, and cocktails. Truly an all day hangout place. I got a matcha latte, which was good, but I do kind of wish I had gotten a coffee because that is what Hexe is known for. Next time. The matcha was good. I got it with oat milk and lavender. I do wish it had been a little more matcha and lavender-y and less oat milk-y. But it was still a great little patio drink! read more

I was really wanting to find some coffeeshops to lock in on a Saturday late afternoon / early evening, and Hexe really came through for me. I thought their ambiance was really cool with the dark academic, black vibes. I ended up getting a tea since it was later in the day, but my friend said that his coffee was also quite good--I will need to get that in the future. What really impressed me was the cookie. Everything in the pastry case looked and sounded super yummy, so I caved and got their Chocolate Chip Cookie. It was SUCH a good cookie. It had the perfect texture, both crunchy and soft, and had such a well done combination of flavors. I loved the tahini and sea salt paired with the chocolate. It's a great environment for studying as well. They have a lot of tables, as well as outlets and Wi-Fi. The only drawback is that the tables are super close together, but it was still a good place to lock in. I will be coming back for sure! read more

I'd heard good things about this coffee shop and finally checked it out. Parking was a bit of a struggle and the place was pretty packed, but the coffee itself was solid. I also tried one of the best peanut butter cookies I've had in a long time The employee was helpful, and there were tables and seating both indoors and outdoors. They offer the option to spike your drink with a variety of options to choose from, which was a fun touch. Prices felt about average overall. Worth a visit. Hexe.... coffee and cocktails extraordinaire! I've been a handful of times over the years for coffee, lunch, cocktails on the patio, and even events, and it's always great. The coffee is quality- I've never had a bad drink. The pastries are good, and the one sandwich I've tried (turkey/brie on baguette, no longer on the menu) was stellar. Looking at the cocktail menu, it's super inventive and fun for a coffee shop, so I looove that! Vibes are pretty chill. It's a dark, almost emo vibe (skull pastries?! Lol) with a modern twist. Comfy for working or chatting with friends, inside or outside on their super nice patio. There was a pop up event happening on the patio today- I like that they do local events to keep giving us reasons to come by :) Will def continue to come back! read more

Stopped by Hexe Coffee Co and tried their matcha. Unfortunately, I wasn't the biggest fan -- it tasted like it wasn't made quite right. I brought it up politely, hoping it could be adjusted, but the response from the barista felt a bit dismissive and there wasn't much effort made to fix it. Met a friend here for coffee + work session. Was a little out of the way, but well worth it. I loved how they had specialty syrups and not just specialty drinks (which are usually only lattes). I got the seasonal special ginger turmeric syrup in a cortado and it was goooooood. I ended up also getting a croissant, as the barista was talking them up! This croissant was filled with cheese and a shishito pepper?! I didn't even know you could do that but I'm glad you can!!! It was super yummy and savory. Highly recommend. Not a ton of outlets available and was super cold inside, so bring a sweater. Plenty of outdoor tables available, but not great WiFi reach out there. This cafe was fine. I could barely taste the vanilla latte and do not come here if you're working from home/have meetings. They crank up the music pretty loud. I came to this place on a whim. I always see it when I'm on the bus and was interested in trying it out eventually. Inside has black walls which I actually like. It reminds me of a saloon a bit. The bar is quite large and they also serve alcohol which is a plus. On weekends they have pizza slices. They are pet friendly and have a nice spacious patio! I got the iced latte with vanilla syrup. The coffee is pretty strong so I would definitely come back here in the morning when I need it most. They have merch available for purchase such as shirts,tote bags and glasses. We came by for some coffee before going to an event in the area. The location is located on the corner of a block, where it is easily accessible while walking but unfortunately parking is rather tough in the area. There is seating outside, and inside. The inside has a modern vibe and has dark walls and decor to match. We came by around 4pm in the afternoon and found that it was rather busy already, likely for happy hour. They offer a variety of cocktails and brews (both coffee and alcoholic!) We decided to take our items to go, with this trip I got a cold brew and a chai. Both of which were great in flavor and gave us a great pick me up. For our baked goods, we got the ham and cheese roll, cheddar bacon biscuit and share a chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was chicken salad and had ghardinara in it on sour dough bread. It was toasted and had so much flavor. Such a simple sandwich but it was great and memorable. THe ham and cheese roll was super flavorful as well, imagine a cinnamon room but instead of all the sweet you got ham and gruyere cheese in a roll. Highly recommend. Came here for the first time today and it was a grad experience. Enjoyed my salted caramel latte and the egg and cheese sandwich on a biscuit. Like the atmosphere and all the windows, and I'm sure the patio is awesome when it's nice out. The staff was friendly too. It was quite busy in a Thursday around 11. Street parking was a bit of a challenge but I managed to find a spot. Mom pov: I came in with our baby in the stroller to meet a friend and I think a stroller the best way to bring a non-sitting little one. And you'll want to enter on clybourn because it's a stair entry on Diversey (but it's really easy to get from one side to the other since the shop is on a corner). And thankfully, they do have a changing table in one of the bathrooms and it was clean and sturdy. read more

I usually get lattes and I got the 8 ounce cup. A little strong from my taste. So I'm not sure if it was because it was a smaller cup and more concentrated, but not my cup of tea. But if you like a strong coffee I can see it being a good option. The service was great. The baristas were really friendly. The only downside to this place is that there is no parking and if you have a stroller, you have to go through the side and up the ramp. When I went, there were three people sitting and drinking alcohol. One of them was passed out on the Bus stop bench. Which was kind of sketchy. Since I parked across the street, I was forced to cross paths with them. But the overall coffee shop was nice. They have an outside seating area and merchandise for purchase inside. read more

I came here for a quick cup of coffee. Parking can definitely be challenging here and there always seems to be a long line. The staff was great here and despite the long lines, they didn't take long to make the orders. I ordered their Campfire Latte. It's the first time the I have ordered something like this. Im usually a drip coffee, cappuccino or latte type of guy so this wasn't definitely different. And I will say it was delicious. The takeout orders didn't have and marshmallows, but if you were dining in it did come with a toasted marshmallow. Overall the really liked the smokiness and spiciness from the black pepper and can definitely see myself returning to order this again. read more

This place was on the top of my visit list on my recent trip to Chicago and it did not disappoint!! I came for the little skull cakes and wow I was blown away! It was a fruit flavored icing but it paired so well with the cake. We also got the chocolate banana bread loaf and it was divine. The best part about the 2 pastries was they were gluten free! This was perfect for my boyfriend who has celiac. For my drink, I ordered an oatmilk chai and it was one of the betters chai lattes I had during my trip to Chicago. They go heavy on the cinnamon! The space was amazing as well with ample seating available inside and outside. I loved the spooky dark vibe the most! Service was quick and the people were friendly! Looooved Hexe! I came here today to work since it was absolutely gorgeous out, and Hexe has a large patio out front. The tables are spaced nicely and most have umbrellas so you aren't in direct sunlight. The interior space is super cute too! The dark walls made it cozy, it would be the perfect place to camp out on a cold winter day. The staff was so kind and answered all my questions. I ordered an iced latte and the bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a biscuit. All biscuits (and other pastries) and made in house daily. The pastry display looked amazing, with muffins, croissants, scones, and more. My breakfast sandwich was heavenly!! The biscuit really elevated everything. And it's huge! My iced latte was delicious and refreshing as well. I can't wait to come back here and explore more of the menu. Kinda perfect and I wish more coffee shops were doing it like this. They have a wide variety of options plus friendly baristas who don't seem annoyed when you ask questions. Drove by Hexe several times in the bus, really wanted to stop and check it out. Today I finally had that opportunity. The patio is roomey and comfortable, a lot of traffic action but still surrounded by green. It was a beautiful day to enjoy one of the last fairly warm days. I had a cold brew which was delicious, with the best blueberry muffin I ever had. I had many (I am 72) and this one lived up to the way it looked. For once I was not disappointed, au contraire! The barista looked fabulous, she was also very knowledgeable in explaining the choices to a couple ahead of me. She apologized for the time that took. What she didn't know is, how much I appreciate that level of dedication! I am really into coffee shops, owned one myself many moons ago. Hexe moved to the top of my list, here in Chicago. I came here on a whim to kill time and get some work done. What i found was a cute, creative cafe with a good amount of options for food and drinks. I was debating between the Egg and Cheddar sandwich or the Ham $ Gruyère roll. The roll won and it was delectable. The outside has large pieces of ham that are mildly sweet and tasty, on top of a salty and soft bread that breaks apart easily. The inside is gooey with cheese. It wasn't even warmed up and i really enjoyed it. The mini pickle on top was a nice touch. For a drink, i got a cold brew coffee. The coffee was solid, it had a nice smoky flavor to it. The wifi was decent but it did the job for work. It was a really chill spot with a relaxing atmosphere. There's not a lot of seating inside but there's plenty of outdoor seating space too. The outside space while it was too cold to use while I was there is in a nice location with a lot of chairs and setup for pets to hang out comfortably.
