    Best ice cream in town!

Mask required to enter and there's a hand sanitizer available as you walk in. I love Hey Mikey's! They have a great ice cream selection and the best in the county! Staff is always friendly and place is always clean.

If you love ice cream and you want to support a local business come to Hey Mikey's. The ice cream is homemade and flavors changed daily. My aunt lives on the island and took us after dinner one night of our visit. My husband and sons chose to have their ice cream as an ice cream sandwich. They have cookies they pack with your choice of ice cream. My favorite is the creme brûlée' ice cream. We make sure to stop by every visit. You can also purchase pre packed containers of ice cream in a pint or quart. Fortunately for me there was one last pint of creme brûlée one night when it wasn't on the daily menu for a scoop. I have to admit I did not share any either. As an added bonus they had color changing spoons if you opt for a cup rather than a cone, which was fun.

My first time going here. Awesome awesome business. The nice lady that was at the counter was very polite and helpful. She informed me of a few ice cream flavors I had questions about. I got one scoop of the Cookie Monster ice cream and one of the green apple in a waffle bowl. They even went and made me a fresh made waffle bowl to enjoy my ice cream in. The green apple was very good. It taste like a gently sweet green apple. Not a sugar rush of flavor. But rather a smooth flavor that wasn't overpowering. I enjoyed it very much. The cookie monster is vanilla ice cream that's blue, and it has cookies mixed in. Was good as well. Their ice cream is very special. I mean that in the sense of it's very different then ice cream you'd buy at the store. It's a good thing. It's got a thicker consistentcy to it. Also it seems to melt slower. Really it does seem to be the case. Was pretty cool. No pun intended. It's a family owned place that has several interesting flavors they rotate occasionally from what I understand. Prices are very good as well. I look forward to going back here again.

Jahid was such a great part of our experience!

I got a t-shirt too that I wore for years until it was ultimately retired. I actually wrote a Yelp review about it that I deleted. In it, I said "The smell of the waffle cones filled the place with smiles and enjoyment. I knew I wanted a waffle cone." What a terrible critic. He will never be Yelp Elite. I haven't been back to Hey Mikey's since then, just because I haven't really been back to Galveston in some time, but my memories of the unique ice cream flavors and toppings remained. Heading back to Galveston for a cruise, I wanted to try and make a stop there again for nostalgia's sake. Instead of heading to the Airbnb, my girlfriend and I drove straight to Hey Mikey's as our first stop in Galveston. We got there around 8:45 pm, which was 15 minutes before they closed (our fault). This is no diss to Hey Mikey's, but almost everything else on The Strand on a Thursday night closes way too early, so it felt like everyone was at Hey Mikey's. The line was extensive in front of us and behind us even after it closed. After waiting through the line for quite some time, I got a waffle cone with their cereal milk ice cream, which had Fruity Pebbles in it, topped with Lucky Charms. They gave it to me with a temperature-changing plastic spoon that turned from yellow to purple when cold. The ice cream was sensational. What an incredible flavor. The only downside was the waffle cone being a little stale, but I fault that to it being a waffle cone ordered right at closing time. The next night, I returned with my cousins and ordered a cup of cereal milk ice cream with Cocoa Puffs as the topping instead. Fantastic stuff. Once again, being there too close to closing meant we had to wait, and we didn't get our ice cream until 9:30, a full 30 minutes after they closed. It was nice that they still served us though! One thing I did notice, which I don't know if it's a normal thing, is that since Hey Mikey's is the only ice cream shop open past 8 o'clock on most weeknights, they seem to get a lot of foot traffic after that time. Their menu is pretty large in its offerings. If it were just scoops of ice cream, the line would move fast, but so many people were ordering shakes, which are a lot more labor-intensive and removed a staff member from their assembly line to focus on the shake. I don't have any advice on how they could easily move the line in the later hours of the night, but man, those kids are working their butts off for everyone to get their late-night sweet treat. Hey Mikey's, you are just as good as I remember.

There a few tables inside the establishment and it was quite packed with a line, however service went pretty fast. From the traditional chocolate and vanilla to Americas colors, and Salted Carmel, lots to choose from shakes, bowls and a banana split. I had the double scoop Nutter Butter and Salted Carmel and the misses had a Brownie Sundae. If you're in Galveston, check it out. If you're a fan of cooling off inside, you can do that to to enjoy the ambiance.

It felt kind of cluttered. I expect they must have a patio setup on nicer days, but on this day all that equipment was taking up all the space right inside the front entrance. I'm not much on sweets. I can be talked into an interesting cookie, but this was not the place I expected and I don't think they sold cookies or interesting milk flavors from what I could tell. They do sell sketchy looking hot dogs and pizza. I'm not sure who orders that. It seems like they specialize in ice cream. I tried one flavor and it was pretty sweet for me. I'm not much on sweets so that's not hard to do for me. I stood around letting my wife pick her flavor. I would have waited outside given how cramped the space felt, but it was pouring rain. My wife mentioned the place has artwork and stuff. I didn't see that and didn't know to expect it. I also heard there is a wine bar somewhere on the premise. I may have to come back and give that a try.

There were reviews that we saw that said it was "confusing", which is laughable..... it's literally checking boxes on a simple form of what type of ice cream base you want and what mix ins you want. This isn't just scoop and go, not only is it great ice cream, it's a really cool process. You will not be disappointed.

The original store was once ran by Michael Cordray's family a century ago. I think it was his great grandfather's brother. Nonetheless, it's now an amazing ice cream shop with all the vintage feels to it. I should specify that it's a rolled ice cream shop and the perfect treat after a day at the beach or a stroll through town. Lots of mix-ins to choose from to help make your rolled ice cream treat as delicious and unqiue as you are.
