Shop reeks!!!! My husband could not stand it, so he waited outside. They had my sour belt candies, so I quickly got what I needed and left.

I got a t-shirt too that I wore for years until it was ultimately retired. I actually wrote a Yelp review about it that I deleted. In it, I said "The smell of the waffle cones filled the place with smiles and enjoyment. I knew I wanted a waffle cone." What a terrible critic. He will never be Yelp Elite. I haven't been back to Hey Mikey's since then, just because I haven't really been back to Galveston in some time, but my memories of the unique ice cream flavors and toppings remained. Heading back to Galveston for a cruise, I wanted to try and make a stop there again for nostalgia's sake. Instead of heading to the Airbnb, my girlfriend and I drove straight to Hey Mikey's as our first stop in Galveston. We got there around 8:45 pm, which was 15 minutes before they closed (our fault). This is no diss to Hey Mikey's, but almost everything else on The Strand on a Thursday night closes way too early, so it felt like everyone was at Hey Mikey's. The line was extensive in front of us and behind us even after it closed. After waiting through the line for quite some time, I got a waffle cone with their cereal milk ice cream, which had Fruity Pebbles in it, topped with Lucky Charms. They gave it to me with a temperature-changing plastic spoon that turned from yellow to purple when cold. The ice cream was sensational. What an incredible flavor. The only downside was the waffle cone being a little stale, but I fault that to it being a waffle cone ordered right at closing time. The next night, I returned with my cousins and ordered a cup of cereal milk ice cream with Cocoa Puffs as the topping instead. Fantastic stuff. Once again, being there too close to closing meant we had to wait, and we didn't get our ice cream until 9:30, a full 30 minutes after they closed. It was nice that they still served us though! One thing I did notice, which I don't know if it's a normal thing, is that since Hey Mikey's is the only ice cream shop open past 8 o'clock on most weeknights, they seem to get a lot of foot traffic after that time. Their menu is pretty large in its offerings. If it were just scoops of ice cream, the line would move fast, but so many people were ordering shakes, which are a lot more labor-intensive and removed a staff member from their assembly line to focus on the shake. I don't have any advice on how they could easily move the line in the later hours of the night, but man, those kids are working their butts off for everyone to get their late-night sweet treat. Hey Mikey's, you are just as good as I remember.

There a few tables inside the establishment and it was quite packed with a line, however service went pretty fast. From the traditional chocolate and vanilla to Americas colors, and Salted Carmel, lots to choose from shakes, bowls and a banana split. I had the double scoop Nutter Butter and Salted Carmel and the misses had a Brownie Sundae. If you're in Galveston, check it out. If you're a fan of cooling off inside, you can do that to to enjoy the ambiance.

I honestly feel like you could order anything on the menu and it would be good! SERVICE: The service wasn't slow, but it wasn't the best we've ever had either. AMBIENCE: Such a cute Southern breakfast café! It was packed when we went, but the space still felt surprisingly open and comfortable considering how many people were there. I ordered Steak and Eggs and my wife ordered the Crabmeat Omelette. My Steak and Eggs were very good. The steak was a perfect medium rare. The eggs were over medium to a T, simply amazing. The breakfast potatoes were soft yet firm with delicious little crispy bits hidden throughout. My wife's Crabmeat Omelette was good. The crabmeat wasn't overly fishy and the omelette was fluffy. It just needed something extra to take it over the top, like fresh green onions or chives. This place was great. Everything from the service, the food and the atmosphere was above and beyond. I am definitely coming back and trying everything.

The first birthday was the day before our cruise started, so I called PattyCakes Bakery to see if they had any cakes available for purchase and if I could get writing on it, because my brother had mentioned that he only wanted to try local restaurants while we were there. I was assured that they had cakes and that they could write on the cake. My sister and I took an Uber to the store and they had a cake available, but they told us it would be about 5 minutes before the person who did the writing arrived. We waited much longer than 5 minutes and the person who was supposed to do the writing NEVER arrived. We could see the staff texting and calling and finally one of the people working said that she was not good at it, but she offered to write on the cake for us. She didn't do a great job (all we wanted was "Happy Birthday" and my brother's name) but it was better than nothing, and my sister and I truly appreciated those that tried to assist us. My rating is based upon the horrible service by the person who was supposed to do the writing, and the fact that we paid $35 for a chocolate cake that was dry and not very good. I would not recommend this bakery, even with the great service we received from those who were working that day.

The seemingly all women team was cheerful, helpful, and delightful! The reviews were accurate. I asked first about their gf options and was offered at least a half dozen options. I settled on the buckeyes and petit fours. My gluten ingesting travel mates selected cinnamon roll cookies and the pecan cinnamon roll. The petit fours were my personal favorite, they were simply MARVELOUS! The cake was dense and moist and the frosting literally made me wish I had a whole cake! The buckeyes, the cinnamon roll and cookies also received honorable mention. All three were superb with a mug of black coffee! Do recommend that you heat the cinnamon roll if able prior to eating. Considering going back tomorrow for more petit fours!!

Do yourself a favor and find one open next time you have the opportunity. This one is located inside San Luis Resort. Valet parking is free with a stamp they will place on your valet ticket. The restaurant is small and cozy. Sitting next to the Cove pool at twilight was very nice. We had the antipasto (italian charcuterie board) it was loaded with meats and cheeses and shared with bread on our table of 7. A little on the spicy side. We had our 3 older teen/young adult boys who came with us to the beach. 5 boys between 17-24 and they all got some bites in. For drinks the older had peach Bellini (which is frozen) and the martini. For seconds we had espresso martini and the sour. I personally liked the drinks not too sweet and the martini was dry with the espresso martini heavy on the coffee side. For entrees boys did some pizza the boglonase, Alfredo sauce with crab (they can customize a dish) and the chicken Luis was mine and delicious 10/10. Husbands had the shrimp Rocco a newer dish which was 11/10 for flavor and style Our server was super attentive and perfect. Now dessert. They have a large cart overflowing with deliciousness. Please ask to see the cart. We ended up with 5 items shared (there were more to choose but everyone has their limits) the triple chocolate was one of the most moist and chocolatey cake ive tasted. And a huge oversized slice. My foodie son could not eat it all! Key lime pie, brownie and tiramisu (also a huge serving taken for a midnight snack) Overall we definitely found out what we've been missing and will be back sooner rather than later.

Our table ordered a wide variety of dishes including steak, salad, pasta, and the Snapper Romano. Overall, everyone was happy with their meals except for the snapper. While the crab topping was delicious, the fish itself had quite a few bones, which took away from the experience. The atmosphere was also a positive. Even though it was crowded, it never felt too loud, and our group of six could easily hear each other throughout dinner, which made for a really enjoyable evening. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely return to the other Houston locations -- we'll just skip the snapper next time.
