Found POOP on the bathroom floor!!! Very uncomfortable eating here and never coming back!. ONE STAR

I think the only thing going for it is the booth tables. Service is good and they are quite accommodating. Food wise, it is quite average. Prices are fair and similar to the other Japanese restaurants in the area. I have been here a few times and really, this will not be my first choice. On my last visit, I noticed a customer sent back the gyozas. It was re-done or something and when it came back, the customer tried one piece and never finished it. So either it was bad or it was not to the customer's taste. There are many special rolls here and they are interesting, I guess you will like it if you are into sushi rolls. The oyako don was not bad, I do wish they also have the beef yakiniku don too. It can get quite busy at times, so maybe make a reservation especially if you have a big group. read more

Not disappointed with the sushi rolls but the entrance door closing mechanism needs fixing. The loud banging of the door next to our table was distracting. Nice that they offered real crab California rolls. Prices seemed quite reasonable compared to what we pay in North Vancouver. read more

Not bad. This is a Korean ran Japanese restaurant. Came here after climbing and it's sad how they ran out of rice 10 mins before closing. It was hard to order take out when most of their food consist of rice. Well I came here because a friend recommended it to me. He told me about the monkey brains which is basically avocado with a bit of sashimi and imitation crab meat deep fried with yam pieces. Yummy. Not bad. We also got spicy sashimi and regular sashimi and the portion is quite big. We also had a seaweed salad. Plus a deluxe tempura. The portion is just right for 4 hungry climbers. Atmosphere is not bad. Nice decor. We were amazed why the fire alarm blended in with the wall. It's the first booth. Check it out if you have a chance. The food did take a lot of time to prepare. Friendly service except the guy in the kitchen weren't very happy how we came in at 9:20. I am guessing he wants to go home right away. Definitely would come back. read more

Awesome food. Great service and even better prices. The chef works at an amazing speed and the wait times for food are super short. Really needs a second visit when coming to new west. Ordered lunch here through Doordash. Pickup was easy and prices were very reasonable. Just got some basic sushi like california rolls and nigiri. Just one complaint, the tamago nigiri was too firm and lacked almost any sweetness. Would not order again unless they fix this, but the other items were not bad. Might try the bento box next time. read more

Ordered through Ubereats, the total cost for the whole order was about $36. The sashimi's were $10 each, seafood salad was $10, and the rolls were $6. The food quality was very average, sashimi's could be fresher, tuna in the seafood salad and chopped scallop roll tasted bitter. The seafood salad was overpriced given the amount and quality of the salad. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Disgraceful. Been going down hill for the last couple years. The house salad used to be delicious every time we get it they cheap out more and more. Nothing but a box of mostly lettuce, two cherry tomato, and a few pieces of brown avocado. We paid extra for real crab and you think they would have tried to make a decent salad for the price. Since this Sushi restaurant is uptown I completely forgot about it until I asked my pops where he wanted to go for Father's Day lunch. I must say I am always glad to get out for lunch with my pops and what better place than Hi Dozo. We ordered Ebi Sunomono, Miso, Philadelphia Rolls, Edamame, Agadashi Tofu, Tuna & Salmon Sashimi and we were both full. I usually go for the veggie sunomono but tried the Ebi this time and was delighted by it. The Philadelphia rolls are tangy with wasabi and creamy with cream cheese, of course there is salmon as well :). The tuna and salmon sashimi melted in my mouth. Lets just say I LOVE sushi and this place is at the top of my list. What I also really like about this place is that the service is always really good. At least every time I have been here I have never had a bad experience. They are friendly, efficient and try not to interrupt you if you are in the middle of taking a bite. read more

Sushi and accouterments were all fine - rainbow roll in particular was a stand out... but they pushed us out the door when we weren't even done eating. The bill was on our table before you knew it. Another Korean-operated sushi joint, surprise surprise. Actually it ranks pretty high for me, the times that I go is pretty quiet to work in the back corner, that's my spot. Don't like the front ones since the cashiers in the back wall, halfway through so lots of in & out, lots of pickups. It's above average food, nothing earth shattering. Good value for their lunch box, in the $10 range you get: Miso soup, fruit, rice, tempura, salad & choice of entree. I opt for the chicken teriyaki, above average. Corner location, beside the DQ. A bit of a dimmed lighting, fairly nice and clean. Probably the best for bigger groups in this area of NW. Metered parking all around, and it's dirt cheap in New West haha. I may only need an hour to prep for next meeting, so I pay for 1.5 hours haha. read more

I enjoy their gyoza, yam roll, cucumber roll, deep fried asparagus roll, and peanut grinch roll. Their avocado rolls are hit or miss sometimes not ripe enough other times borderline rotten :( My fave roll by far is the Angus roll. read more

This is your average Japanese restaurant. We'd seen them all. For me nothing jumps out of the ordinary at this place although they have good sashimi salad. The service is so so. I often come here with my coworkers More than a few times they've messed up our orders. Yesterday was no different when they didn't tell my friend that his order was 'out of season'. They kept him waiting for his food while the rest of us were slurping our ramen and udon soup and enjoying our shahimis. The poor guys was so frustrated. They weren't even apologetic. I admire my friend (5 stars to him!) for being graceful while starving. The sad thing we'll probably be back. This is my co workers hang out place for sushi. read more

Definitely 5 stars for this restaurant. My wife and I really enjoyed the food, the service, and the environment. It's a small but quaint location but they had a nice big Booth they gave to us for ourselves an nice free little appetizer, lots of fast service from different servers, what else is there to say! Perfect. Whether you like sushi or haven't tried Sushi this is definitely a good place to try out. They have nice noodle soups, fried noodles, salads and probably dozens and dozens of different kinds of sushi rolls. We had a delicious teriyaki salmon roll and a spinach roll with peanut sauce. Somethings fishy about this place! Upon entry, the immediate realization I wouldn't be taking my jacket off because it was so cold should have been enough of a red flag to leave. However, this was a last resort scenario as all other neighbouring sushi restaurants were closed for the evening. We first got our tea which appeared to have snot floating in it (GROSS!!!) Then, when we finally had been acknowledged by our waiter, she took our order incorrectly and shorted us an item once our food finally arrived. Bottom line here, I'd never recommend anyone go here, even as a last resort. You're better off taking your family up the road to the McDonald's drive through!!!! read more

Right off the get-go, I'll say I'm not a huge sushi fan. However, I do enjoy teriyaki and tempura dishes as well as a few other Japanese dishes. I went here for supper with a couple of friends I hadn't seen in a while. They're both avid sushi fans. I ordered the beef teriyaki, which came with small bowls of Miso and rice. I also ordered chicken karage, prawn and veggie tempura, and "scallop temptation" - their take on scallops wrapped in bacon. They were all incredibly delicious. My friends (sisters, actually) really enjoyed their sushi; in fact, they came back here a few nights later for a family dinner. Wine and beer is available; they offer three different kinds of Japanese beer, including my favourite, Asahi, which I used to wash down the dinner. Bit of an interesting side story: I'd ordered some more food to take home and walked out without the tempura. Because we went for ice cream just up the street, we walked back past the restaurant on the way back to my car. A lady ran out of the restaurant while we were waiting for the light to change, frantic that they'd forgotten to put the tempura in with the other food. She was relieved that she spotted us and was able to make sure I got my tempura. Talk about service! I'd go back here, again. read more

This restaurant used to be one of my favorite sushi places in New West but it has gone way downhill. Both the service and the food are marginal at best. Tonight was the last time i will go there. First off the service was so bad that we had to wait until the waitress decided to bless us with her presence. We were finally able to get her to take our drink order and decided to put in our food order as well because she was so slow. So we ordered the chicken teriyaki platter and the sauce on the chicken was nasty. Fortunately the tempura and sushi were standard Japanese fare. I give one star for service and one star for food. Maybe if I wasn't so allergic to salmon, it might not have been half as bad. But as I've mentioned in a previous review of Oysi Oysi, I'm a stickler about cleanliness, food safety, and cross contamination of salmon especially when it comes to sushi places because I'm deathly allergic. So if I manage to have even a minor reaction, I know it's because they're a little lazy with managing their cross contamination issues with different fish species, or just aren't cleaning well enough. This is precisely what happened at Hi, Dozo. I had an allergic reaction to something and my eye was itchy the rest of the evening. At least I didn't go into anaphylactic shock. But okay, forget my little rant on sanitation. The sushi was still sub par. Actually I ordered the spicy tuna roll and it would have been nice, but it was a little too spicy, and they put wasabi in it, of which I am not a fan. I also ordered the "Real Crab" California roll. Which had a disgusting after taste, that I continued to belch up after dinner. It was like they had just stored the crab too long and it was old.. ick. We got prawn skewers, which were exactly that with some sweet chili sauce for $7. My sister can make the same thing for a fraction of the cost, it was just prawns skewered on, grilled, and smothered with the thai sweet chili sauce. Ebi gyoza was a bit strange. They still had the ebi tail sticking out. I expected the ebi to be cut up and mixed in with the gyoza veggies. It wasn't awful but also not the best. Miso soup was good. Dinner companions complained that the wasabi was watered down. However, apparently veggie rolls are good. read more

Good amount, decent price, nearby my workplace, what more can I ask for? Their food seems always fresh, and bento boxes are well done as well. I like how their portions are well controlled, so people who are on a diet like me can be more selectively healthy about what they eat. And the interior is very nice too! They did a renovation recently, and I love the cherry blossom nearby the entrance. It gives that nice "Japanese" atmosphere to the restaurant (although ran by very nice Korean people). read more

We used to be regulars here. But the last '2 times' we went, we ordered drinks from the menu. NO ALCOHOL! NO BEER, NO WINE, NO NOTHING. Why not take it off the menu?! You give us a menu but you don't have what you're advertising. The waitress was very rude about it too, I'm guessing they lost their liquor license. While the service was great and they kept removing empty plates, the hostess herself was very grumpy. The food quality however was amazing. I ordered a dinner box and a fried California roll and split it with a friend, we were filled to bursting. I high recommend the fried California roll, they top it with blueberry puree. Had lunch here on April 1. We were seated immediately, wasn't very busy. Tea was good and service quick. I liked the sushi , not quite as tasty as sushi garden (in my opinion), but still good. Best sushi hands down in New West. New owners have really turned this place around over the years. Both sushi/sashimi and hot foods are consistently good and fresh. Sashimi are a fairly decent portion so order accordingly. Great unique rolls and they usually offer a complimentary appy or side with your meal (during dinner). Be sure to check their specials board on the way in and give it a try for something unique like "monkey brains" (it's not what u think). read more

After 40 minutes they hadn't even confirmed the order, skip the dishes contacted the restaurant only for them to say we cannot make the order, and have rejected it. This place is definitely one of the more worthwhile places in the neighborhood. I've came here three times in the past few months and I've always ordered sushi. I've had their salmon sashimi, deep california roll (a deep fried version of the california roll), spicy tuna roll (large tuna portions, fresh fish), deep fried roll (deep fried imitation crab and salmon), and crunch roll (dynamite with crispy flakes). All the standard rolls are fabulous, but I'm not a big fan of the crunch roll (it was good but I lost all the flakes to the dish or the table). Their ramen is also mediocre. Overall, this place is a treat. It's well decorated, never overcrowded, and the waiters and waitresses are super friendly and attentive. read more

To Cristal L. Bone in your salmon too ? Judging from the time of your review and my own personal experiences I believe they were trying out a newly hired sushi guy. It only happened the once to me, wait no... there were bones in some cooked salmon morsel sampler too. I hate bones in fish. I tried their beef teriyaki bento too once and the beef was dry as compacted sawdust. Still I don't set myself up for a world class Japanese food experience when none of the staff is actually Japanese. Service from the sushi bar head chef is nice but the girls are a bit slow on the tea refills. Overall it's ok for New Westminster I guess. read more

Open on Christmas, they delivered within an hour, sushis was okay. They do not offer brown rice, and sushi was messy an falling apart.

It's ALRIGHT. It's more expensive than other restaurants. The sushi isn't as Good either. The location is quite attractive and the layout is nice inside. It'll be my second choice when thinking about sushi. read more
