Goma-ae, BBQ Eel Teriyaki with Rice, Salmon Sashimi (3 pcs), Salmon Avocado Roll. I also added a Mango Milkshake. The portions were large and I actually couldn't finish the entire meal in one go. I would have liked more sauce for my Goma-ae, as it felt a bit diluted. They provided a good portion of eel, and both the sashimi and rolls were slightly larger than your average portion. The milkshake was tasty, but I wouldn't have minded if it had a touch more flavor. Other than that I was really satisfied with my meal. The ambiance is super dark -- and it's not a good kind of dark -- they only turned on minimal lighting. First impression is that we were not welcome. Service was minimal and no smiles or pleasantness. The servers were wearing masks though. The food tasted great. Weird experience...we passed by but had literally no customers even though there's a lot of tables. The do have a steady flow of takeouts but we were the only customer for dine-in. Two staff and they were polite but not attentive at all. They just kept chatting and after handing us the menu they never came, it's as if they were hiding from us. We had to stand up and go call them. After they quickly ordered and left. Not rude but not at all welcoming. Feels like they were indifferent about us coming in as dine-in customers. Even when we needed to pay bill we had to stand and call them again as we have been disregarded the whole time. Portion was decent but flavour were on the heavier side and not authentic at all. A place that promotes an affordable menu right off the bat. If you're just interested in good deals, this is one place you can consider. It's not amazing, but it's not too bad either. Just standard Japanese fare. I got the tuna goma-ae the first time I came here and I loved it. Beautiful and delicious. The second time, I got the Box A bento which had a lot of variety for ~$10. I was on the fence with the beef teriyaki though, got a bit too chewy at some parts. Nothing really stood out, but it was very filling. The ladies here were nice. Came here for lunch, it wasn't busy at all. Ordered the Tonkatsu meal and it came relatively fast. It looked good but after my first bite, it was dry. Felt like it was precooked and then reheated. With the mix and match you can pick 2-3 items for around $9-$10. Whenever I go, the service is always fast. I never wait forever for my food and the servers are always on top of refilling my tea. They are also very popular on Door Dash as I always see drivers picking up huge orders from here. So the other night I was super lazy and decided to order in food. I was also craving sushi. You can order online with Kojima at JustEat and so I thought, "Why not give it another shot?" Great decision. The gyoza was lovely and though delivered came warm enough that the bite was still there. We also ordered a great combo which we agreed we'd do again (2 ebi, tuna, and salmon + a dynamite for 9.95) Love their mix and match plan and will definitely do that again. But was supremely disappointed in the fact that it was the mango syrup or maybe it was the "real" mango that's doused in glucose syrups. Whatever the hell it was, ssssssucked! I should have eaten the 20$ bill instead. A friend and I decided that it was long over-due that we both had sushi so she decided to introduce me to this spot. Located just a few minutes (walk) from Royal City Centre in New Westminster it's fairly accessible by all modes of transportation. But if you really want to work up an appetite take the Skytrain to New Westminster station and walk up 6th street for about 15 minutes. And when I say "walk up 6th street", I'm not playing... that's a serious hill/mountainside. Upon entering this sushi restaurant through the dining side (there seems to be a little bar side to it too), you might be drawn to taking the booth by the window. Don't be fooled... it's not the best seat in the house. The table is awkwardly shaped and the seating at that booth by the window has no back support. As for the food... Between the two of use we ordered: - Deep Fried Gyozas - Dynamite Rolls - Tempura California Rolls - Spicy Salmon Sashimi - Dragon Rolls - Malibu Rolls Overall, the food was good. The first to arrive was the Spicy Salmon Sashimi which was quickly followed by the Dynamite Rolls then the Dragon Rolls, Deep Fried Gyoza & then the Malibu Roll. At this point, my guest stated, "they are saving the best for last" referring to the Tempura California Rolls. Now I've had California Rolls before however I've never had them Tempura style so she got me excited about trying them for the first time. Anyways... time passes as we're eat, chatting & laughing enjoying each bit & slowly sipping on our Heineken & Sapporo served in with glasses. Then my guest pipes up, "They forgot about the Tempura California Rolls!". At this time we're about 1/2 through the other dishes & we've concluded that it would be too late to "re-order" there Tempura California Rolls. We had a good mixture of dishes at our table and we didn't want to be left with just the Tempura Cali Rolls by the time the made it if we reminded them of the order so we decided we'd let it go. It was very disappointing through because I really wanted to try it for the first time and to her, it seemed to be one of her favourites. Now for the service... or should I say the lack of service. The only thing that came fast was the initial tea offering shortly after we were seated. To waited for what felt like forever (especially when hungry) to place our orders. Details below** I'm kind of surprised at the star rating for this place overall, but that could be due to how I've ordered from them in the past, let me explain: For the last year I have ordered through SkipTheDishes, a service that let's me get delivery to my house. I wouldn't necessarily recommend the service, there are a lot of problems with it... but I digress... I have ordered no less than 27 times in the last 12 months. Yes, you read that correctly. No, I'm not embarrassed, and no, I'm not going to try and do any math to figure out how much money my household spend on sushi last year. That would just make me sad and less enthusiastic about this review. Again town the digressing Lecayle... sheesh. Anyway, I may be having a great experience with this place because I've never had to interact with anyone that works there. As the disclaimer above states, my review will be just about the food, not the servers or the restaurant interior/exterior/cleanliness. I mean I'd love to assume that they'd pass an audit in any country, but I won't tell you that's fact because I honestly don't know. The food speaks for itself. I grew up in Richmond eating some of the best sushi you could get back then, and I like to think that I know "good sushi" from "mall kiosk sushi". The number of orders I've placed (27 if you didn't catch that earlier) lead me to believe that a) this is my favourite sushi place and b) I'm really lazy and should cook more. This place is just too good and too affordable. My orders have consisted of tempura, sashimi of various kinds, spicy tuna rolls, yakisoba, and unagi to name a few hot-ticket items. Everything has always arrived fresh, perfectly cooked (if applicable) and hot. They even cut the corners off of the styrofoam containers so the tempura doesn't get soggy. Most sushi places do this, but not all do. This is my go-to place and I expect it will be as long as I live in New Westminster. This used to be the location for King Sushi. Now taken over by Kojima (which also has a location on Commercial St. with decent reviews so decided to give it a try) Ordered a Bento Box C for lunch. It had Teriyaki Chicken with rice, Assorted Tempura, 2 Piece Tuna Sashimi, 2 piece Salmon Sashimi, 1 piece Hokkigai and Salad, all for $9.50. Order came out fast. Staff was friendly and efficient. Chicken and Tempura was hot and not soggy. Overall everything tasted good and portion was huge. The sashimi was cut extra thick and was quite fresh. They also have lots of combos and lunch specials all for under $10. With my budget these days, this is the best bang for the buck Sushi in the New West area, without tasting too Western. I've only ordered from here, so I can't speak for their in-house service. But in terms of delivery, the food is usually pretty good. The pumpkin croquettes are delicious, and they have one of my favourite agodashi tofus here. I also like how they have very simple, cheap rolls (ie inari and avocado). Also the quality is (mostly) fresh. The only complaint I have is that one time when the prawn in my dynamite roll had a bit of a fishy taste/essence, likely not fresh. When Royal Oak Sushi in Burnaby closed because of the tragic murder of its owner and waitress a couple of years ago, I struggled to find a restaurant that offered large portions at reasonable prices with great service like they did...until now. The sushi is decent, and it's considered cheap for what it is but I've had better and you can tell by their sushi rice. I waited outside staring in for a good 5 minutes in the pouring rain with a 3 year old until the oh so courteous employee allowed me to come into the open but locked restaurant. The second I walk in I'm barked at, 'WE JUST OPENED. EVERYTHING WILL TAKE 15-20 MINUTES.' After this rude greeting I was less than excited for the service I was about to receive. This one was a difficult review. I went for lunch the other day and had a bento box with nigiri, chicken teriyaki and sides. The food was good, service ok but... The new owners renovated after king sushi left and it seems more functional from an owners point of view but it felt like you we're in a room with a bare bulb hanging from the ceiling. No atmosphere. We've been there 4 times since we moved to the neighbourhood on December. The first 3 times were good. The last one (2 weeks ago) was so bad that we aren't going back again. We ordered some sushi and other dishes. The sushi took less than 5 minutes to arrive (spicy combo, about 20 pieces of sushi), which means that they made it before we ordered. And it had a weird taste. We even left 5 pieces because of its taste. Just because of that we aren't coming back again. You can't play with something as delicate as raw fish. read more

Since moving to BC I found a perfect sushi restaurant local to me. I have allergies and they always accommodate. When I ask for the wasabi to be placed in a its own separate container, they do so. When I ask for extra ginger, they actually give me extra. Their ginger is the real pale yellow variety, not the dyed ginger with cancer causing aspartame in it. They also have a fantastic feature that really makes them stand out for me, the option to upgrade to wild salmon for 50 cents. I love that.
