Taking L again. Ordered for take out by phoning the number as online order on zomi cost extra $2 fee. Ordered deep fried dynamite roll and they said should be ready in 10 min. I picked up right away, and eat as soon as I get home, Sushi was disappointing, it was a bit soggy, and does not taste that good. Just sauce. I like to come to Hiro Sushi once per week. This restaurant is always clean, nice atmosphere and their customer service is good. Their menu are two pages, that means they have a lot of options. 3.5 stars. We've only ordered take out from Hiro Sushi, but every time we've ordered it's been pretty decent. One of my favourite things here is the BC Roll. At so many places there's no grilled salmon skin and it's just very dry salmon meat. However here it's packed full of crispy grilled salmon skin, and it's so flavourful. Hidden gem in town. I came here one late night when Im back from work and didn't want to cook. Three other sushi places I tried were closed and this one was gonna close in 30 more minutes. Photos and reviews online make them look just like any other cheap sushi in town, except one thing: their desserts. But you might ask, why looks at dessert at a sushi place? Well I like dessert and if they care enough to make their own unique dessert lists, they might also do the same w their sushi. And I was right! They have lots of options other places don't have, or put their own touch on popular items you see all the time. My favourite after few times coming here are: - Sunomono (cold noodle salad in vinegar). You can have veggie verson or with shrimp/crab. I often order this for appetizer. - Salmon sashimi: big juicy fresh pieces (I remembered to take a photo this time) - Salmon oshi: pressed sushi - Any of the roll between 222 to 225, they will be spicy though. - Pear dessert: it's a hazelnut gelato shaped like a pear dipped in chocolate. Horrible service. I ordered through Hiro and got Skip the Dishes as the delivery company. My order went through, credit card was charged, a notification was sent the delivery was close, but no food. 1 hour later I checked the status and it was cancelled. Dinner on a Monday evening. The restaurant didn't seem at all busy for dining in, but the pick-ups were continuous. The service was slow and not overly friendly. It felt like we were an inconvenience to the staff, honestly. We ordered the Beef Bento Box and it was OK. I read that their tempura was really good so I selected that as well. The tempura had a unique sweet & smokey taste to it. The miso was OK. The tea was nice. Nothing outstanding to note from this visit. Plenty of options and made it hard to choose i guess everytime going to a korean sushi that is gonna be the issue. The price is was pretty good roughly around $15 per person. I have driven past this place a million times on the way to work. It's in the little plaza on NE corner of Boundary & Hastings in Burnaby. I finally tried it, I ordered delivery with Skip. Let's say I was satisfied, maybe not blown away. The prawn tempura, YES PLEASE. I will order again just for that alone. Light, fresh, flavorful, cleaned properly (really important to me). Prawn tempura was 11.95 for 6 pieces. I also ordered the all day special for 3 items + miso soup. I got chicken karaage, tuna roll & salmon & avocado roll on regular rice. All good, for 13.95. Miso soup was included in the all day special. With so many sushi restaurants around up and down the Hastings corridor in Burnaby Heights & Hastings sunrise, it's hard to make decisions. I don't know that I would be loyal to this one but I may try it again. I wish Burnaby would ditch the styrofoam, if I order on the Vancouver side of the street there's no styrofoam. read more

A reasonably priced sushi joint in this part of town. Beautiful. Parking is available in the covered lot in the back of the building, as well as along Boundary. I hear there are a lot of hit and runs in the covered lot, so people beware. It looks like the renovation job was quite minimal compared to the previous reincarnation of this space (No.1 Chinese). The European-style murals are still there (this goes back 1 more reincarnation to when there was a Greek or Italian restaurant here). It is one nice looking mural though. Staff are friendly, helpful, and Cantonese speaking. So what makes this place special? $7 bento (teriyaki beef or chicken) boxes. Add a buck or two for teriyaki salmon or eel. Comes with miso soup too. But what makes me really happy is the portion. Most places have me leaving hungry. Here, they actually put a decent portion of rice underneath that teriyaki goodness. The other trick here is to order the 4 pieces of tempura instead the salmon maki (you get to choose) - it's more filling. Even with a couple of pieces of nigiri sushi thrown in, the bill is under $10 after tax and before tip. Sold. Lastly, they actually accept credit cards here. Yay! Wasn't a big fan of their California roll or tuna maki. But the salmon sashimi & maki and chopped scallop rolls were Coming in, you basically seat yourself. It was empty when we came. What a rude pathetic customer service. I wanted to get a carry out today but I had to cancel the order 1 minute into I placed the order. The lady ( I think the cashier) Chinese women was so rude. Can't believe I was going to spend $50 in a place where the customer service changes drastically when you tell them you won't be able to make it to pick up the order because of an emergence just after 1 minute in of placing the order. My husband and I love Japanese food. We always order Teriyaki Bento. We love the Teriyaki Bento at this restaurant, good value for our money. We love their food except for their tempura, batter is too thick, wish they use authentic Japanese batter then I can say everything is perfect. OMG! They really need to do something here. This is a big wake up call for the owner. 1. Service was lackluster. Unfriendly. Waitress did not want to be there. Nobody welcomed us or showed us a table. So sad. 2. Avocado in cali roll was hard. My kids always eat everything except here. I also couldn't finish my meal. 3. Sushi rice had too much vinegar. 4 my bento box was sad. Order wrong and tempura was double fried and oily. Not good at all! 5. Sushi rolls warm 6. Tuna roll was fishy. 7. The place is dusty and gloomy. Honestly, our family is not super critical usually. We have been to many sushi restaurants in and around Vancouver and most are decent and we don't bother to review. I had to say something here... To the owner: We will not come back here unless you address these problems and please start by having pleasant staff. Without this you have no chance. Its not rocket science. Customers want a pleasant experience when paying good money to eat out. Don't double fry the tempura!!! Use ripe avocado!!! Measure ingredients!!! Get your systems down and make sure employees follow! If they don't follow and they don't want to be friendly get them the hell out of there. I truly hope you will heed this warning. I found this place through skip the dishes. My regular place was not serving that night and thought I'd try this place out because of the free delivery. The food was actually really good. I liked what I got. I mean I don't get anything crazy, I get their 3 choice combo (chicken teriyaki don, 3piece salmon nigiri and appetizer tempura) 12.95 if I'm not mistaken. Great price, good food so I thought hey, I'll pop in since I'm not too far. Wrong. Customer service is a deal breaker for me. Anyways we stood there staring at the staff just talking to each other so we thought we'd just pick a seat but for a good 20 mins nothing we still didn't get any menus or a hi, I see you there. Do not go here... Simple as that. My boyfriend and I went here as a last minute decision and we deeply regret it. When we arrived (there were only 2 other tables with people at the time) no one greeted us. My boyfriend finally got the attention of one of the cooks because we were waving to him... He said sit anywhere, so we chose a booth near the other tables so it would be faster service. Boy were we wrong! It took someone 5 minutes to give us a menu and some tea (didn't even say hello or how are you today) and another 10 for them to take our order. It only took 5 minutes to get our food which was great but I still hadn't received my drink I ordered, so my boyfriend decided to try and flag the waitress (or anybody really) to get it for me. No luck after a couple of minutes had passed he just got it himself (behind our booth was the cooler with drinks) no one said anything and when the waitress brought the last of our food order she didn't even say anything about it. The prawn tempura was very dry and chewy... And she only gave us once sauce to share for tempura (even though we each got our own big order of it). The sushi was on a different level, I asked the waitress if they had deep fried California rolls and she said yes, so I ordered one not knowing they add things to it. (They added cream cheese) which was disgusting, I wish she would of told me it's not a normal California roll!! When we were done we also had to go to them to pay the bill (which wasn't even brought to our table). Needless to say we did not tip! I got seated quickly and a cup of tea. My order was taken quickly and the wait for my food was very short. The portion sizes were on the bigger side but I personally found it all under seasoned. The sunomono had no tangy bite of vinegar or lemon. There wasn't enough rice and too much filling. Basically the balance was off. It was busy enough for the hour I was there and there were obvious regulars there. I wasn't sure if you paid at the table or went up to pay and couldn't find my waiter. This recently opened restaurant has seen other predecessors at the same location. It was once a Greek restaurant then a Chinese restaurant and now currently a Japanese restaurant. Chinese owners for this restaurant if you need to know. The owners keep the Mediterranean painted theme on the walls from the previous Greek restaurant. However, they renovated the floor to add new booths, tables and carpet. Ambiance can be a bit confusing with the massive murals on the walls. The downside of carpet flooring is that I can see the tempura bits clinging on the floor from previous diners. Service was adequate. There were 3 tables occupying the restaurant including my group. Server directed us to our seats, dropped off tea and menu, gave us time to decide, took orders and dropped off food. She briefly checked up on us if food was alright and to refill tea. She was not the friendliest server (never smiled once) but she gave us the service we expected. When we were done eating, she handed us containers and a bag to pack our leftovers. It would have been better service if she packed our food for us as the restaurant was not that busy. Price is average for the area. The deluxe boxes are a bit more expensive compared to Tentatsu at Hastings and Nanimo. Food was good. They accommodated a request of no teriyaki sauce for one of the bento boxes we ordered. There is choice of a side for each bento box so we picked tempura and spring rolls. Tempura was just the right amount of batter and perfectly fried. Spring rolls were vegetarian and dressed with sweet chilli sauce. The rice in the California rolls were a bit sticky so the roll fell apart when I picked them up to eat. Good amount of meat/salmon in each of the boxes with rice. The salmon bento box rice had a small amount of bean sprouts. Less sprouts than other restaurants. The miso soup comes with imitation crab meat and not tofu!! Interesting detail to take note if you are a vegetarian. Soup was delicious and well balanced flavour other than the crab meat throwing us off. Overall, decent quality and good value. There is room for improvement in the service department. read more

The restaurant is very comfortable with high ceilings and ceiling fans. Don't expect excellent service because their takeout is busy and it is just a neighborhood diner-style Japanese restaurant, but the food is reasonably priced and the fresh seafood quality is excellent and well proportionately sized. The name and owner may have changed since I have been back twice, sashimi is fresh and they have my favorite wild sockeye salmon sashimi, and spicy chopped scallop cone is so yummy. I like Japanese mayonnaise I noticed a lot of people don't, maybe when making an order try asking the chief to not add it. We both got the "All Day Super Special", which was $10.95 for your choice of three items and a free miso soup. There was a great amount of avocado and it was perfectly ripe. The salmon tasted average but I really enjoyed the creaminess and good amount of the avocado. Phew!
