Massive Donuts with great flavor! Visited this place before they began their move & absolutely loved the funky variety of donuts! The service was great & gave great recommendations. The donuts themselves were massive, I got 5 for my husband and myself and we ate on them for a few days. I also once got a dozen for a work event and they were a hit among the sweets lovers. I love that their women owned too, can't wait to visit the new location when it opens up!
Hi-Five Doughnuts is a Butchertown/NULU neighborhood of Louisville donut shop that is pretty highly regarded in the city of Lousiville. After having Hi-Five on my to do list for a long time I finally made the trip here the other day on a late morning around 11am on a spring Thursday with my wife and two youngest daughters. You walk into the brightly colored yellow building and the interior is very vibrant and has fun decor. They have a few donuts out in a glass for selections and a decent sized menu. My 2 year old daughter got in the Easter spirit which was a few days away and got an Easter designed donut. She kept pointing at the Pastel colored designed heart and a coconut donut that had a peep on it. We told her she wouldn't like coconuts and the lovely worker must have been paying close attention because when she brought out her heart shaped Easter donut she put a peep on it which made for a happy 2 year old girl. So very nice and sweet of the worker to do that without us even asking her too. They have a combo where you can pick a glazed donut which a few glazed options and double it up with a group of glazed toppings to choose from. I got two donuts from This combo. I went with a chocolate glazed and topped it with chocolate chips and I got a cinnamon glazed and topped it with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. My wife went with the unique KY Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich which is a chicken Sandwich that uses glazed donuts for the buns. We both also got some hot chocolates. Everything we go here was great. The donuts are rather large, super fluffy packed with flavor. The toppings were fresh, creamy and delicious. My wife said her chicken sandwich was great. She was cautious when ordering it but she said the flavor was great and the unique combo somehow worked. Our hot chocolates were stuffed filled with marshmallows, sprinkles and cinnamon flavors. I personally thought it was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. My wife said the cinnamon flavor was too much for her which hindered her rating of the hot drink. In another great moment of customer service the worker Overheard my wife and I trying to think of places to sit down and enjoy our yummy donuts in the warm weather that day as there is no interior seating at Hi-Five. Just a counter to order the donuts and some standing space inside. The worker informed us that if we walk behind there facility they have a nice shared patio with the bar next door. So we made the trip outside and enjoyed our snacks in the good weather. Overall I can see what the hype was about. Very good donuts, cool options, solid pricing, great service and cute little setup for hi-five donuts. Absolutely will be back to revisit this place.
These ladies are amazing. They were so friendly, patient and informative. Plus, they make amazing donuts! I mean, is there really more to say? Yes, there is... Pricing is reasonable for their creative creations & these bad boys are big. I opted for the (justifiably) raved about chicken sandwich (top of the menu), as did the hubs - with added bacon, egg & cheese. He couldn't pass up the cinnamon streusel donuts, so, he grabbed that too. After his sandwich, he talked about how full he was WHILE eating his donut. Dare I say it's hard not to overindulge. I loved having something savory to cut through the sweetness, as I'm not big on sweets. Of course, we'll be back. We even loved the decor!
Excellent donuts with some unique creations. The dough is perfectly moist, no dry donuts here. I love how you can create your own donut or create a donut sandwich. I had an old fashioned cake donut and a chocolate long John(or chocolate bar if you're from the west coast), the chocolate frosting has a very nice flavor.
Such a cool place. Very quaint, cozy. It's not really a place for you to sit inside. They have a couple of seating spots outside though. Not too much. The lady at the counter was very nice. She helped me pick the right pairings for toppings for my donut and told me about each special donut in the case. I posted a pic of the menu so you can see all the different options. It wasn't expensive at all. I got 2 nice size donuts for $6. I think that's a pretty decent price. One of my donuts was a create your own one. I had bourbon caramel and bacon added to it. It was so good and a pretty large donut. Actually all the donuts there were large. Well worth the money. So many different options to pick from. My son got the basic twist with cinnamon on it. He said his was good too. They also sold food. I saw some breakfast sandwiches and they put them in boxes like box lunches. I'll definitely be going back when I'm in the area. It was so nice. A great spot for locals and visitors to try.
This place was awesome! Stopped with a friend while driving through town. Small, cute and slightly girly inside. Lots of pink and so cute! There are several selections of doughnuts as well as " building" one for your liking. We each chose a doughnut with a frosted flavor... peanut butter, chocolate... etc, then added toppings. I chose the bacon crumbles. The king of the show was the chicken doughnut sandwich!!!! JUST SAY YES AND GET ONE!!!! One of the best and fun sandwich I've ever had! Probably good that I don't live in the area or these sandwiches might frequent my diet more than would be healthy for me lol!! Great customer service and they give lots of help in choosing your perfect doughnut!
I have had this place on my radar for the longest time. I finally made it on a Saturday morning on the weekend of Bourbon and Beyond. There is street parking and I actually had no trouble getting. I go in and and I'm the only customer in there (it was about a half hour before closing time) . There wasn't a very big selection of donuts left and I got the last I want to say Salted Chocolate that was left and a small organic milk to go. The ladies behind the counter were very friendly and I would definitely come back here, I would tell anyone maybe come when they open because the selection maybe better. I did enjoy my sweet treat though.
As many already know, Hi-Five Doughnuts is the first female owned and operated donut shop in Louisville - yay girl power! When you're arriving at Hi-Five Doughnuts, they're not hard to find. The building is brightly colored. The theme of this place is vibrant and quirky - I love it. When you enter, you're warmly greeted by an employee. Their space isn't huge, but they take advantage of what space they have for seating. The selection of pre made donuts rotates on flavors, and they also have things like cinnamon roles and sandwiches made with a donut. A highlight for many people is creating your own donut - you pick the glaze and toppings. They also do a lot of custom orders, so you can really get what you want here. During my most recent trip they had a new item, the Doughie. It's a brownie donut and its amazing! We also snagged a red velvet donut and it was stellar. I don't get to come to Hi-Five Doughnuts often, but I always look forward to coming here! read more
Still in love with this magnificent place. I love the vibrant colors of the building and the very friendly staff. Very sweet of them to brew me a fresh pot of coffee even though they were closing within the hour. There are always so many options I never know what to get. This time I opted for cinnamon sticks, a traditional glazed, and a lemon poppy seed donut! Hi-Five of course did not disappoint! I love everything about this place. The originality, the staff, and of course the donuts. Definitely check this place out if in the area. Parking is all on the street but there is usually a spot open. Next trip back, I definitely gotta try out one of there sandwiches! read more
I absolutely love their doughnuts!! They usually have a great variety in the case already, but I love that you can customize your doughnut just the way you want it!! The Bourbon Caramel Glaze is bomb! And you can never go wrong with a chocolate covered doughnut! They have toppings like, coconut flakes, choc chips, fruity pebbles, cinnamon, and the list goes on! Right now they have really cute Valentines doughnuts as well! Ive yet to try one of their doughnut sandwiches, but that is next on my list!! read more
Trying to figure out what I am missing here because the glowing reviews are overwhelming...except for mine. Hmmm, maybe I am not a fan of eating donuts with a knife and fork? I had read the reviews and heard some people get all euphoric when talking about their donuts so a recent trip to Plumber's Supply gave me the opportunity to zip across the street and try them out. The selection of about 6 donuts in the case wasn't a great impression. As I heard the sounds of people going into foodgasim while eating their donuts, I plunged ahead feeling a little ashamed at my skepticism. Cinnamon rod, Chocolate Long John (no filling) and Birthday Cake is what I ordered to go. I will say the size of the donuts probably equaled more like 6 rather than 3. The Birthday Cake came with icing, crumbled birthday cake and more icing. The other two were not dolled up. So by the time I got home, the box had absorbed the grease....a lot. I started with a bite the cinnamon and it had a nice blend of cinnamon and sugar but the dough seemed a bit dry. So went on the birthday cake...trying to pick it up to eat it was out of the question so enter knife and fork. I could taste the crumbles, icing and more icing but the donut itself got lost in all the toppings but what I could distinguish seemed a bit stale....stopped at 3 bites. I decided to let the BF have the Long John and he said it was big and tasted okay. He ate 1/2 of it and the remainder of the uneaten donuts went in the trash inside of the grease soaked box with cute little stamps all over it. So as I write this review a couple things come to realization. I probably should have gotten there at 7 a.m instead of 9 for a better selection? This is not the place to go for a donut on the go but rather a stay and eat it kind of place. I am more of a purist when it comes to donuts...less is more with me. Louisville's first female owned and operated doughnut Shop serving huge donuts(palm size) and customized(choose your toppings and Glaze) donuts as well. Been there around 10 am and there are 4-5 people. Ordered Bourbon Caramel Glaze with chocolate chips and coffee(Choose the mug and help yourself- One free refill) costed me $5.30.My buddy ordered similar one but with PB glaze. Thier Ky Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich has been featured on the Travel Channel and HGTV! Pros: --------- Custom Donuts Friendly Staff Clean Handcrafted and Made from Scratch daily. Very expensive and very very big. The issue is that if you want to try different donuts it gets expensive and I couldn't eat all the donuts I got. I basically just had to eat donuts all day and skip real lunch. The donuts are really really good though. It's worth going to and trying because they are delicious. The dough is a little different than other donuts I've had. It's kind of spongy almost? But they were great! The vegan donut I got was also awesome. I just wouldn't make this my go to donut shop because of the size and price, but it's a fun treat once a year maybe. read more
Happy opening day, #LadiesOfTheMorning! Oh, what's that? Hi-Five Doughnuts has a brick and mortar store?! Indeed the do! You can build your own doughnuts and holes with glaze and toppings of your choice, just like from the truck. On top of that, they have some pre-made doughnuts and their by-the-slice doughnut pizza, and some specials like the DOUGH-HEMOTH! And I can't wait to try the doughnut sandwich! If you are doing BYO, things slow down a bit. This probably isn't going to be the place if you are in a rush. And prices are a little higher here, but buy local, bishes! I think a little bit is lost from the truck, as the doughnuts aren't as freshly fried. But they are *literally* brand new, I am sure things might change and evolve as they get down to business :-) But guys! I am so excited they are open, I wish them nothing but wild success, and I can't wait to visit again! read more

Wow! Just wow! This is not your normal donut shop. Located on Main Street in NULU. It's a small little shop with one table and a bar with stools. There are not many donuts in the case, but it's hard not to see one you wouldn't want. We also ordered a dozen, and as you can see from the pic, these are not normal donuts. They are HUGE!! Lots of options, topped with chips, cereal, bacon and so much more!! They could be a dessert for a couple to share. The mocha caramel is amazing!! Fun little shop in the perfect spot in the city. Worth the try! The dozen was $38, but you getting so much more than regular donuts. read more
I got a great opportunity to stop by Hi Five Doughnuts before we headed to the Butchertown art fair this morning. It's a brightly colored house on the corner that screams for you to come inside and eat a doughnut. Walking inside was a little interesting because there were so many people already standing inside in line for doughnuts. It felt a little chaotic. They have one large table that seats about 8 people near the window and a few other bench seats against the wall. Otherwise it is the counter with a chalkboard menu and also a small cabinet for those of us drinking coffee. For us new folks, the menu is a little confusing. I still do not understand everything that they offer and frankly with the crowd there wasn't much time to sit and chat with the people working there. They seemed a little frantic and each family was waiting 10 to 15 minutes for their order. However we decided to keep it basic and pick a donut, pick a glaze, and pick a topping. My son got a doughnut with plain glaze and chocolate chips. Lots of chocolate chips! This will certainly cure any chocolate craving that you are having and it is super messy. My husband got some doughnut holes as well with plain glaze and they were delicious as was my doughnut with the plain glaze. He also got himself another chocolate glaze doughnut so truly for the three of us we had way too much to eat and took some home. We also grabbed a milk which is super expensive - $2 for a very small paper carton. But these doughnuts are sweet so they have you right where they want you on the prices! I did enjoy the coffee though and was happy to have a to-go cup so that I could finish it after I left. If you are a little bit adventurous with your doughnuts, this is certainly a place for you. You could have a lot of fun trying the different combinations of glazes and toppings. The doughnuts are huge! Truly one doughnut will do it for each person, or an order of the doughnut holes. Those forks that you see around the restaurant? I didn't understand why those were around until I got my doughnut and yes, you are going to need one. The doughnuts are incredibly big and almost impossible with the warm glaze to pick up and eat it with your fingers without becoming a crazy mess! Grab lots of napkins. Also, if you go during a busy time be forewarned that you may not get a seat inside. Especially if you are with a big group. I did see some people head outside to hang out and eat their doughnuts. If you're thinking about surprising your family with doughnuts, this is worth the drive to pick up some crazy good doughnuts and take them home with you for breakfast. read more
Super cool place and let's face it donuts rock. This place is warm and inviting. The staff is super helpful as this was my first time and when looking at the menu I was a little overwhelmed at first. But the girl working took the time to explain how everything worked which I appreciate. They have a case of their seasonal donuts already decorated and glazed that you can choose from. But best part is that you can build your own donut WHATTTT??? Yes they have a couple of different glazes and toppings to choose from. The girl working recommended one of the most popular so I went with it and I was so happy I did. I got The Carmel Bourbon glaze with crispy bacon on top!!! Holy Moly it was AMAZING!!! Overall awesome donut shop with lots of great choices. Oh and before I forget you can make your donut into a Breakfast sandwich!! Yes you read that right lol. I highly recommend! The breakfast sandwich was delicious! It was a sweet glazed doughnut combined with the sharp flavor of bacon, egg, & white cheddar! I ordered online and customized my own doughnut with strawberry glaze and a fruity pebble topping. If you are unsure what to get, go in to order, they have many delicious and complex doughnuts to choose from. If you like simple then customized your own with one glaze and one topping! read more

This place is amazing. One of my favorite donut spots in the city. I got my wife a donut cake for her birthday and it was perfect. I love the way they do their dough here. It stands up well to a good frying. The outside is nice and crisp but the inside is soft with a pleasant chew to it. Their chocolate frosting is unmatched. You could put that on anything and it would taste amazing. read more

I was visiting town from Seattle and owner went above and beyond to explain all the options and recommend some of the more popular donuts. Very cute donut shop. Nice and helpful owner. Build your own donuts are unique. I got the chocolate custard filled, build your own Oreo, build your own Strawberry Fruity Pebbles, and build your own Bourbon Bacon. Only complaint is there's not really a seating area inside, and they are closed Monday and Tuesday. Highly recommend, and I'll be back the next time I'm in town. read more

If you get the chance to check out Hi-Five Doughnuts, you'll certainly think it is. With Hi-Five Doughnuts, you get to pick the glaze and the toppings for your doughnut -- pure genius!!!! I finally caught up with Hi-Five Doughnuts over the weekend. The ladies behind his brilliant business concept regularly set up shop at local fairs and events around Louisville. And what I found when I giddily skipped my way to their booth were plain cake doughnuts, glazes that included chocolate, pina colada and bourbon caramel and toppings that included pecans, bacon, corn flakes, sprinkles, crushed pineapple and roasted coconut. There may have been a few more that I'm forgetting. Check out the @hifivedoughnuts Instagram page to get a sense of what's available on any given day and where they're set up. After surveying the options -- our eyes wide with sugary wonder -- my friend and I decided to try a chocolate glazed doughnut with bacon and a bourbon caramel glazed doughnut with pecans. I mean, how can you *not* try a doughnut with bacon when that's one of the options?!? And I'm happy to report that Hi-Five Doughnuts is more than a gimmick. The doughnuts were really good! The doughnuts were soft with a bit of sweetness -- but not too much to where it competed with the indulgent toppings. The doughnuts were smaller than what you might find at Dunkin' Donuts, but on a warm day, while walking from fair booth to fair booth, I don't think I'd want much larger than what Hi-Five offers. And the toppings were definitely the stars. The bourbon glaze -- just get it. On everything. And the bacon was in small enough pieces to where it was easy to eat but still had flavor. The doughnuts were $2.25 each, I believe. Not too shabby for a breakfast pastry made to order. They also have doughnut holes if you're wanting something more bite-size. Morning, noon or night, I will make a bee-line to Hi-Five. And if they ever get a brick-and-mortar store or food truck, even better. read more

How can you not frequent High Five Doughnuts on National Doughnut Day? I decided to get off my high horse and celebrate a National Day. What better way than with these guys? The following and obsession began a few years ago with their food truck. These badass women were locking and loading at fairs. Most importantly, selling out early! If you have stuffed one into tour pie hole, you would understand. The store front location offers spunk, vibrancy, and killer food. Whether it is a breakfast sandwich or vegan doughnut. The bright colors, artwork, and bathroom know how to make me smile. But the doughnuts, man.... The doughnuts... they know how to change your life. So go on, put a High-Five hole into your hole. We aren't locals so found this place on Yelp. We ordered online and didn't notice that the order had been canceled until about 10 min had past & we were going to pick them up. Turns out they had tried to call me but i missed it. Because we were excited by the glowing reviews we called to see if there was still a chance. They were so nice and explained that they had tried to call. Turns out they were runni g out of donuts so we just needed to order less. The donuts were delicious. They were like small cakes - iced and fluffy, tasty and huge! The shop was super cute. Definitely will return when back in the area. read more

What to get: Cinnamon glaze with cinnamon toast crunch topping Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: fast breakfast, to go Wait: 5 mins (Friday 12PM for 1) Parking: street parking The Experience: Finally motivated myself to get Hi-Five, though they're pretty close to where I live. They're pretty new and right in that little triangle which mets up with Baxter Ave and Story Ave. Street parking, which isn't bad if you don't mind a short stroll. The parking lots are dedicated to a neighboring company's employees, so don't take their spots! This is a cute little donut shop (aren't they all?), modernized and cutely decorated with painted walls with "Ladies of the Morning" sign. They have counter space to sit at or a table or so, if you wish to eat your donut(s) there. There was a family in there at the time I went, so I'm not the only one who gets donuts at lunchtime, I guess haha. In their case display, they have their seasonal/monthly donuts, which includes some vegan options. I had the poppyseed one and raspberry one (this one was vegan). I also completed my set of 4 with 2 of their most popular combinations: bacon on bourbon caramel glaze and cinnamon toast crunch on cinnamon glaze. They have different sized boxes so you can grab a variety of different amounts of donuts, if you so choose. The first thing you'll notice is probably the size of the donut. They are massive and close to the size of a personalized pizza. One donut is as large as my face. I'd advise sharing or eating portions at a time. The donut isn't too light in texture, but the crowning feature are the glaze + toppings. Personally, I loved the cinnamon toast crunch on my donut. It could pair with a few glazes, but the cinnamon glaze was just fine. The other flavors I tried were for the novelty of them to say I did try them. Interesting, but the flavors aren't overwhelming or smack you in the face. I've had Voodoo donuts from Portland and the theme is similar. You try them and they are incredibly massive and loaded. You need to get a picture of them because each is like a work of breakfast art. read more

Woke up at 1pm on a Sunday craving donuts not from a gas station and decided it was the perfect day to try Hi Five out. Got there 5 minutes before they closed and staff was still super nice and took the time to explain the menu and offer samples. The donuts start out plain and you get to add toppings. I got two donuts, one strawberry glazed and the other was bourbon caramel with bacon on top! The donuts are huge but super yeasty which im not usually a big fan of but these donuts were moist and the toppings made them o-so-delicious . A lil pricey but their huge and its a speciality item so its expected. Definitely wud recommend trying them out! read more

This place is great and the staff are the best. So helpful and kind. Right now they have a 3 person at a time COVID rule and mask requirements. It's a tiny place good for grab and go but the inside is fun and bright. We got vegan and regular donuts. We loved the topping options but I wish there was one vegan glaze. Otherwise we ate the enormous donuts in no time! The vegan was a raised sugar which happens to be my very favorite type of donut. So I was so excited! They are very sugary and sweet so grab a water you will need it to wash this monster down! They have stamped large cake boxes for to go donuts, not that the donuts get far enough but I digress. It's right near the field and so yummy, must see if you are hungry and vegan in Louisville. read more

I love how they have unique doughnuts and cinnamon rolls that you can't find no where else. The doughnuts and rolls are so good. This is the kinda place that you go to and fall in love with unexpectedly. The service was great. Easy going team willing to help out and accommodate you. The doughnuts were delicious. We got the cheesecake, pancake, vegan chocolate and the brown sugar donut along with two breakfast sandwiches. Fresh, soft, flaky deliciousness. The only downside, I got diabetes. I've never had a doughnut breakfast sandwich before in my life and they nearly lost me when I read that it had "Mayo" in it, but boy when I took that first bite and was hit with that sweet and savory taste I became a believer. The doughnut was perfect glazed, the egg well cooked, the bacon crisp, cheese melty, and the mayo balanced it all. Can't wait to go back, well done! read more

I know I'm going against the masses with this three star review, but I guess I don't see or taste the amazement others did. I'm not saying the doughnuts were bad or tasteless because that's not the case at all. I'm just saying they didn't blow me away and had an average flavor. I ordered two maple bourbon glazed doughnuts with a bacon topper, and two chocolate glazed doughnuts with a potato chip topper. The chocolate potato chip were my favorite. I was actually surprised about this discovery because I'm a sucker for chocolate and a sucker for bacon. Lol! The doughnuts had a nice consistency to them and they were a good size. When it came to biting into the maple bourbon bacon I was bummed the bacon wasn't more bacony (is that a word? Haha) and the maple bourbon glaze wasn't more pronounced. I've actually had a maple bacon doughnut before, a few years ago from Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, OR. I can say that was one AMAZING doughnut. I had never had anything like it and I wanted more. So in comparing the two, unfortunately the one at Hi-Five didn't rate as well. The chocolate potato chip doughnut was nice. I adore a sweet and salty combo.
