I finally stopped in to pick up some sweet treats for a friend! The woman working was so nice and inviting. She thoroughly explained each doughnut in the display as well as the options on the chalkboard menu. You can build your own doughnut...WHAT!?!?! I will try this next time :) I settled for the birthday glaze, cookies and cream, twix, and dulce de leche. My personal favorite was the dulce de leche with the caramel popcorn on top! These are probably some of the most awesome doughnuts I have ever tasted. They did have vegan options! I enjoyed the decor as well. The rolling pins served as door handles. The space is small, but bright. There were a couple tables in the shop. They had some coffee, but Red Hot Roasters is 2 doors down if you need a latte or something fancier than coffee! I remember back when they were just a little food tent at the Flea Off Market and now they have their very own food truck. *so proud* You have "design your own" pizza, burritos, noodles, and NOW donuts. I wanted to try a fun donut place while in Louisville and decided on this one based on other Yelp reviews. The donuts are HUGE so make sure you come hungry. They had four featured donuts you could choose from (I got the chocolate chip cookie dough), but they also had other items to choose from such as a donut breakfast sandwich or make-your-own donuts and you can select the icing and topping. The possibilities are endless and if I lived in Louisville I would definitely be back to try some fun flavor combos. All the donuts we tried were awesome and flavors were on point. Parking was a little tricky as only street parking was available and we had to circle around a few times. This is such a quaint little place and I fell in love with it at first glance! So colorful and cute! There is street parking and masks are required to enter the establishment. The door handle to get inside is an old wooden rolling pin and that adds a neat touch to the already adorable outside. Inside there is a case that is usually filled with sweet treats but the day I was there it was pretty much empty. There is a big menu board and so we had plenty of options to choose from. We chose the build your own options along with getting one cinnamon sugar donut from the case. We also had to try the KY fried chicken donut sandwich. My daughter got a plain glaze with fruity pebbles and I had the maple bourbon with bacon. Everything was delicious however the donuts do have a very different texture than what I am used to. The chicken donut sandwich was hands down our favorite and we loved the hot sauce that they used on it. The chicken was beautifully fried and bad a nice crunch to the outside of it while being very moist on the inside. I definitely would stop again if I'm ever in the area. read more

I should be a bit more circumspect---but---these are the 2nd best doughnuts I've ever had. They do have the crazy frankendishes...the doughnut breakfast sandwich and the doughnut and gravy. Both were very good. But what it comes down to are: 1) Doughnuts that are slightly crispy on the outside while chewy inside but not oily. Check 2) Good quality ingredients so you can taste the flavors (chocolate, cinnamon, various fruits, maple, etc) rather than cloying sweetness. Check. The best doughnuts I ever had were apricot filled and sugar coated ands sold on the street in Milan before Christmas. Barring that I'd go to Hi-Five. read more

Spolier - I'm a HUGE fan from way back, before the brick and mortar, before Shelby (their food truck), to when they only served doughnut holes freshly fried out of a tent at the Flea off Market or other places around town. The doughnut is good enough to be eaten without any toppings, but go crazy with glazes and toppings--they have more than one needs to choose (have your coffee first!). I was thrilled to see vegan AF doughnuts too--now they have choices every day. My husband and I shared a variety of doughnuts and holes with simple glaze and no toppings and all were simply amazeballs! The vegan doughnuts were surprisingly tender and fluffy with no eggs or dairy, and the one I had was topped with a berry jam. They don't have much space to sit and eat, and the cost is WAY more than you'd spend at a chain place, but in this case you do get what you pay for: quality, variety, and a taste that's like no other. I know, I know, I know. Everyone seems to really love this place and oh boy, I want too as well. But, it's a hard pass. Aesthetically, the doughnuts were impressive but the taste was a no. It had no taste at all. I got the Cookie Crisp and two other that I thought would be amazing. Given the price and the hype I was ready to overindulge big time and worry about calories later. I found the line to be quite long and the wait to be substantial for a Friday morning. However, all things good are worth the wait. I had a bourbon glaze and a bacon. Perfect mix of savory and sweet with a strip of fried bacon on top. The bourbon glaze was delicious although by the time I reached home (5 min) most of it was on the tissue paper and bottom of the bag. Not much left on my donut. I ripped the bag open and used my donut to sop up as much as I could and it was delightful. Quite a sticky mess, but no one was watching. I am updating this review based on my most recent experience with Hi Five. This time, I decided to try and make my own custom donuts (I still say that getting their premade donuts are quite expensive, but that's neither here nor there in this review), so I made a cinnamon toast crunch with cinnamon glaze, and chocolate chip, peanut butter glaze, and a strawberry glazed with fruity pebbles on it. If I had to do the donuts again, I would not have topped the peanut butter or the strawberry glaze. The reason I say this is because they work so well on their own, that the toppings felt wrong to be added onto them. The strawberry & peanut butter glazed did not taste artificial at all and that's why the flavors felt off, as artificial strawberry works better with fruity pebbles and the chocolate, for some odd reason, didn't pair with the peanut butter. The cinnamon toast donut, however, was amazing! The reason I still give this a four star is because I really wanted to try their specials, but the prices on those are too much for me, and I do buy a ton of donuts. The donuts are huge though, so you will get your monies worth making your own custom donuts! Still worth a visit! read more

Uh what is this and why. Donuts the size of a football field. They had their flavors they make then you can make your own with flavor glaze choice and toppings. I went with the peanut butter glaze which was warm with mini chocolate chips and it was all melty and delicious. This donut was $3 but could feed two people. You won't want to share. The only problem is that this is not a on the go sandwich! That to me was not a problem; I found a place to park and eat it. It was very good and I had to share it with the rest of the family. Needless to say, I didn't get half of it even though it was big enough to feed us all. I was not concerned because my wife thought ahead and gave me a bacon molasses bacon. Chocolate with nuts was her choice. My daughter had a glazed and a custard filled. Was this place on the expensive side for doughnuts? Sure, but it is worth every penny. I look forward to getting a dozen for home next time. We also will be ordering one of their doughnuts cakes for my daughters 13th birthday in April!! read more

If you're a fan of doughnuts (and who isn't?!) get yourself to Hi-Five Doughnuts to check it out as soon as possible! The ladies at Hi-Five have essentially perfected the doughnut. The dough is a gloriously light, fluffy, delicious bed for the amazing toppings they use. They have several custom creations you can choose from, or you can build your own creation using the various glazes and toppings they offer. (Some of my past go-to's have included bourbon caramel glaze topped with bacon, chocolate glaze topped with potato chips, bacon glaze topped with chocolate chips, and anything topped with CT Crunch.) So, in short, you should want these doughnuts. And you should go get them now. And, now that Hi-Five Doughnuts has a brick and mortar location in Butchertown, you won't have any trouble finding them. So the shop is very,very adorable, and they have "special" donuts in the case or you can opt to get a plain donut customized with a glaze and topping of your choice. I went with one of the special donuts, it was lemon with a lemon filling. That was probably my favorite. The others I got to share with my coworkers was: fruity pebbles with strawberry glaze plain glaze with chocolate chips cinnamon toast crunch with bourbon caramel glaze. Those were all just OK. They were very large, expensive donuts with no real WOW factor. I have seen in the pics here a lot of really unusual flavor combinations which I assume are more of the "special" donuts and that is really what I was looking for. I dont know where they advertise these daily flavors though, their Facebook page hasnt been updated for a week and their IG just has pretty pictures, no real information so *shrug* read more

I'm a huge fan of this place and love the story behind it too. Food truck turned storefront, and all owned by ladies who take pride in what they are serving. I love that you can create your own donut with special syrups and toppings. I add fruity pebbles or Cinnamon Toast Crunch to mine usually. The quality is second to none and you can taste that in every bite. Now, 4 stars because the pricing is definitely higher than your average donut shop, mind you this place isn't average and the donuts themselves are larger than what you would get somewhere else. My fiancé accidentally ordered the wrong thing - he wanted the fried chicken donut sandwich but ordered the breakfast sandwich. I finally tracked down Hi-Five doughnuts while they were parked at the Flea Off Market. I was very excited to try them after drooling over their constant pics in my Instagram feed. I ordered a chocolate glazed doughnut with rainbow sprinkles (4.00). I was given a rather large, thick doughnut with fresh, drippy glaze and a splendor of sprinkles. Upon first bite, it was pretty messy, but I really enjoyed the chocolate glaze that they used and the texture that the different sized sprinkles brought on. Unfortunately, there were no napkins available or offered so there was some finger licking going on... The doughnut was the most dense doughnut I've ever tried. I prefer mine a bit more airy/light. They offer a lot of different glazes like bourbon, caramel and chocolate, and tasty toppings, like the usual bacon, sprinkles and cereal, and some more uncommon offerings like fresh fruit, toasted nuts and roasted coconut. They even have doughnut holes, which I think is nice to have as an option. Overall, I feel that their doughnuts are extremely pricey, 4.00 for one (with a glaze and two toppings) will get you four fresh chocolate glazed doughnuts with sprinkles at Dunkin' Doughnuts or two fresh donuts at several local bakeries in my town. I'm also not a fan of the density of the doughnuts. However, the girls are friendly and they do a lot for our community, such as donating day old doughnuts and visiting senior citizen care facilities to volunteer. I don't see myself stopping for another purchase anytime soon, but they're worth checking out if you're a food truck or doughnut enthusiast. Updating my review because we have been getting doughnuts from here regularly the last year and have had great experiences. We just had the one not great experience compared to many great ones now so they definitely deserve an update! I love having a vegan doughnut option in town and the staff is always so friendly! It's great that you can call and put doughnuts on hold since we're vegan and want to make sure they will have some of the vegan ones left when we get there so that we don't waste a trip. The vegan ones do sell out a lot so I would recommend this! Overall we have been really happy with the flavors and enjoy the surprise of what they will be each time since they change day to day. Unfortunately, did not live up to the hype. Despite being a really cute donut shop with fun ideas, the donuts themselves were underwhelming, and we threw them away without finishing them.
