Jalapeño poppers $5.20. Are you serious? This is robbery by any standards.
Stacy R.

Large Jalapeño Pipers for $5.20. Got home and there were 4 very small poppers. This is robbery at its worst. Sandwiches were cold and soggy.

If you want a quick sandwich, this has been a Ponchatoula staple for years! The restaurant is older, but the quality is there. The pulled pork sandwiches are covered in BBQ sauce and are wonderfully messy. The fries are delicious. If you want a po' boy, the fried shrimp po' our is delicious. There are other sandwich options as well, but you can't go wrong with these classic favorites! They even have glass bottles of ice cold Barq's root beer. There is a drive through or inside seating. The drive through is great for a quick lunch break. The service is pretty fast as well, so this is a good if you are passing through on the interstate or need something quick for lunch.

Bacon cheeseburger for about $4.50 and it's pretty damn good and the cashier was very friendly.

I stopped in here on my way out of town Tuesday and ordered a bacon cheeseburger and man was it good. As a matter of fact, I liked it so much, I stopped back in Wednesday on my way home and got the same thing. You can tell that the meat is fresh and not frozen like a lot of fast food chains and the only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is because the burger could have used a little more seasoning. The teenage girl with braces behind the counter actually took my order both days and she was just a sweetheart. She has a great smile, awesome customer service skills and just down right friendly. I, unfortunately, didn't get her name but how many teenage girls with braces can work there? My overall experience was great but everyone has their own experience with food establishments so don't let the not so great reviews deter you. Try it for yourself!

Got love for Hi-Ho as they've been around forever. I have to be in the mood for it though but their BBQ pork with cheese dressed is delish. And they have cups of melty cheese for all you cheese fries people. I recommend the cajun fries to the regular because the regular fries have no salt and aren't crispy at all. Their prices have went up over the years but then again, so has everywhere else.

"Sliced beef" and "pulled pork" was just deli sandwich meat, NOT BBQ. BBQ sauce is horrible. Smoked chicken was fine.

Average to below average food. Mediocre service. No ambiance at all. The night I was there, service staff were rude.

Having lived in Austin and being obsessed with BBQ I'd call myself a little bit of a BBQ perfectionist. Anyone who has done it themselves knows to get it right you can't rush it, takes good prep, cooking process, and resting/proper finishing. Salty Joe's definitely focuses on all of those aspects of making good barbecue and the finished product is tasty. Their Brisket is juicy, smokey, and rich beef flavors, the ribs are tender and seasoned well, and the pulled pork is a good balance of prim flavor and smokiness. Don't skip on the drinks (margaritas are delicious) or the desert

My buddy and I stopped in here one Saturday for lunch and decided to split an order of Philly cheesesteak eggrolls and a sampler platter. The eggrolls were solid and came with a cheese dipping sauce. There were 3 of these that were cut in half so really enough for 3-4 people to get a taste. The sampler platter came with ribs, brisket, and pulled pork with 2 sides. We got the beans and corn pudding. The corn pudding is a misnomer as this is really cornbread. Still good though. The meats were all pretty good with the brisket being better than I expected. Their sauces were not my favorite. I think one had some sort of blackberry flavor, but I could have that wrong. The food is pretty good; the service was on point and the place itself is fun and funky.

We tried Boudin Balls that were stuffed (with cheese) and the regular. They were both outstanding but I'd say maybe the ones without cheese were better. It's hard to say because they were both very good. The smoked boudin was better in my opinion only because the casing dries out a bit it makes it crispy so we of course just ate it whole. The regular boudin has a casing that isn't crispy so we chose to just eat the filling. The inside was just as good as the smoked. We only tried the chicken cracklin's and holy cow were they good! Some pieces were real crispy while others were a bit bigger and still had some meat on them. There was a perfect mix up large and small pieces, crispy and not crispy pieces. I wish we had these in Michigan. We brought home some andouille so we could make jambalaya and gumbo. We just cooked some andouille, and it was a little bit spicy and so good. We also brought home some boudin and can't wait to cook that. Be sure to check out their freezer section and take home some different things. This place was such a gem to find! The staff was very friendly and helped us make decisions on exactly what we needed to try since we had never been before. There is seating inside if you're looking to eat there. We just ordered things we could eat on our road trip home as well as things to cook/eat later. I'm only complaint was that the bathroom was not very clean and the toilet didn't flush. That doesn't matter much because you should really be going here for the food! :)

5/5 -- A Ponchatoula Gem You Have to Try…read more If you ever find yourself anywhere near Ponchatoula, do yourself a favor and stop at Toula Burger on W Pine Street. I walked in expecting a good burger... I walked out questioning why every other burger in my life hasn't been held to this standard. From the jump, the vibe feels like what a small-town Louisiana burger spot should be: warm, welcoming, and buzzing with people who clearly know they're in for something special. You can tell the crew cares -- not just about making food, but about creating a place the community is proud of. I ordered the signature burger, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it's the kind of bite that makes you pause. Perfectly seasoned beef, cooked exactly how I asked, layered with toppings that taste thoughtfully chosen rather than thrown together. The bun held everything like a champ -- soft enough to enjoy, sturdy enough to keep the whole experience tidy. It's the little things, and they nail every one. The fries? Golden, salty, addictive. The kind of fries you keep eating even after you're full because "just one more" somehow becomes ten. What really stood out, though, was the service. Ponchatoula is known for its hospitality, but the folks at Toula Burger take it to another level. Genuine smiles, real conversations, and you can feel the pride they have in what they've built. It's refreshing. To the owners: Y'all created something special here. You've got a spot that feels rooted in community but tastes like it belongs on a national "must-try" list. I'd love to know more about the inspiration behind the menu -- especially what led you to craft a burger that balanced richness and freshness so perfectly. Keep doing what you're doing; the attention to detail shows. I'll absolutely be back -- and I'll be bringing people with me.

While the hand patted Burger is fantastic, my husband commented that every single time he has been there the fries are lukewarm. I opted for a hand battered shrimp Poboy. The batter was really good. Served freshly fried. If you're weird about veins in your shrimp, these are not deveined shrimp. The problem is that the bread to shrimp ratio is off. It's a really thick bread. The restaurant atmosphere is so quaint and homey. The staff was so friendly. I can chalk the bread thing up to personal preference but they need to do better with hot fries.

5 Stars -- Incredible food, generous portions, and the BEST desserts!…read more We came in with a big group -- kids, grandkids, the whole family -- and we were blown away by how good the food was across the board. We started with the fried boudin balls and crispy house-smoked bacon. Both were delicious and packed with flavor. We also shared a bowl of red beans & rice, and even my one-year-old grandson devoured it (and wore a good portion of it on his face!). The brunch board was a huge hit -- such a fun assortment of waffles, pancakes, pastries, fruit, sausage, bacon, and more. Truly something for everyone, and perfect for sharing. For mains: * I had the Trout Almondine with cheese grits -- and those grits were honestly the BEST I've ever had. Creamy, cheesy, and perfect. * My daughter ordered the ribeye and loved it. * My husband had a burger and cleaned his plate. Everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. We weren't disappointed in a single item. And then... the desserts. Oh my goodness. We tried the cheesecake, pecan pie, and bread pudding. The cheesecake was the best I've ever had, and my daughter agreed. The pecan pie tasted like something straight out of a grandmother's kitchen -- my husband said it was the best he's ever had. The bread pudding was rich, warm, and equally delicious. The staff was friendly and patient with the kids, which made the evening stress-free and fun. Bottom line: we loved everything -- from appetizers to dessert -- and we will absolutely be back!

We got here around 8ish in the evening and it was raining so not many people here. So we propped up at the bar and ordered. I was in a martini mood so Gin martinis were my calling; they made them the way I like: slightly dirty w/ extra olives. I can't remember how many of those I ordered but they went down smooth. I didn't want to order anything heavy so I decided on the Brussels Sprouts and a cup of the Chicken/Andouille Gumbo. The Brussels were crispy and had a nice soy glaze to cap it off. They garnished it with some peeled scallions which gives a nice finish. I'm a sucker for Brussels Sprouts; if they're on the menu, I'm very likely gonna order them. The gumbo was pretty good, had a tomato richness to it. I forgot what my friend ordered; probably cause I had too many martinis. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from Hammond but it's worth it. Check it out when you're in the area!
