We arrived right at 10am on Sunday. We were just passing through Ponchatoula and looking for a bite to eat. The restaurant was clean and the staff at the counter was polite and helpful. We decided to try the cheeseburger po-boy, sweet potato fries, and 1/2 & 1/2 tea. It was ALL perfectly prepared. "Sliced beef" and "pulled pork" was just deli sandwich meat, NOT BBQ. BBQ sauce is horrible. Smoked chicken was fine.

Average to below average food. Mediocre service. No ambiance at all. The night I was there, service staff were rude.

It was better than I expected. Food was hot and fresh. Burger definitely had a homemade taste:)

The outside looks of this place is quite deceiving as the food is great. I highly recommend the bbq pork and beef on bun. Just a tip, ask for them on tin foil not paper. I also recommend the boudin balls. They are not over stuffed with rice and are quite tasty. Las but not least, the hamburgers are very very tasty (don't quite understand how some say they are bland....geeze it's a hamburger) and not dried out. Great prices for flavorful food. So many people rave about this little place, I had to try it. It was underwhelming to say the least. The building is older and it has a hole-in-the-wall type atmosphere... which usually indicates that the food, service, and prices will be amazing. The staff seemed annoyed, disinterested, and they were just borderline rude. The drive-thru worker seemed to enjoy yelling at customers about how they parked, and making them move their cars so they don't block her drive-thru.... Although the culprits were parked in marked spots. After reading the atmosphere and attitudes, I figured the food would be amazzzzzing. Something had to keep people coming back to this place.. The food was bland. Flavorless pulled pork that appeared to be sliced rather than shredded, drowning in a decent bbq sauce. The potato salad was average. Very disappointed...food extremely bland...sandwiches were cold and had to be microwaved upon returning home, and I live 5 minutes away. Pork tasted as if it was frozen and reheated multiple times...I tried the sauce before ordering any bbq sandwiches and it tasted pretty good in the restaurant but different once home...truly nothing to write home about! If you want a quick sandwich, this has been a Ponchatoula staple for years! The restaurant is older, but the quality is there. The pulled pork sandwiches are covered in BBQ sauce and are wonderfully messy. The fries are delicious. If you want a po' boy, the fried shrimp po' our is delicious. There are other sandwich options as well, but you can't go wrong with these classic favorites! They even have glass bottles of ice cold Barq's root beer. There is a drive through or inside seating. The drive through is great for a quick lunch break. The service is pretty fast as well, so this is a good if you are passing through on the interstate or need something quick for lunch. read more

I stopped in here on my way out of town Tuesday and ordered a bacon cheeseburger and man was it good. As a matter of fact, I liked it so much, I stopped back in Wednesday on my way home and got the same thing. You can tell that the meat is fresh and not frozen like a lot of fast food chains and the only reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is because the burger could have used a little more seasoning. The teenage girl with braces behind the counter actually took my order both days and she was just a sweetheart. She has a great smile, awesome customer service skills and just down right friendly. I, unfortunately, didn't get her name but how many teenage girls with braces can work there? Got love for Hi-Ho as they've been around forever. I have to be in the mood for it though but their BBQ pork with cheese dressed is delish. And they have cups of melty cheese for all you cheese fries people. I recommend the cajun fries to the regular because the regular fries have no salt and aren't crispy at all. Their prices have went up over the years but then again, so has everywhere else. read more

We took a chance and stopped here in n way home from NOLA. It was well worth our stop. The loaded fries were super - lots if beef, bacon, melted cheese, and Hi Ho sauce. Enough for two people. My husband had a hamburger that he said was the best he ever had. Thanks for a great meal! read more

Hi Ho is a staple that has been around forever. My husband grew up on the bbq sandwiches. They are all barely more than a hole in the wall. This particular location has very poor service. We waited around at the counter with nobody there but us while there were 3 different girls doing absolutely nothing. My husband ordered 3 bbq sandwiches, which he said were ok. Unlike the previous reviewer I wouldn't say their burgers are "amazing" but then again how good could a burger be? My burger was juicy but bland like 5 Guys (overrated). No salt, pepper or seasoning in the ground meat. The rest is just dressings, condiments and bread...right? Suffice to say it was ok. They weren't skimpy on the meat.
