Janice, Sam, and the rest of the hostel crew make this place feel very communal while not encroaching on personal space. It's so incredibly clean, and much care is taken to keep the hostel running smoothly. Be sure to book your stay in advance. Co-ed and single sex rooming is available. Some of the buildings even have their own personal bathrooms, which was a really pleasant surprise. The price is RIGHT. Less than $40/night to stay in Nantucket? With a practically-private beach at Surfside? Yes, please!

Obviously, since this is a hostel it was a bargain- $35 a night for a dorm room bed. The dorm option may not be for someone who wants more privacy, in that case renting the private room in the hostel (140) or a hotel room in town ($$$$) may be the way to go. I loved it though, I traveled alone so it was a great opportunity to be able to do things on my own as well as meet other travelers of all ages from the US and many different countries. Breakfast and coffee is included and there's a full kitchen which was very convient to cook in (and a lot cheaper than the restaurant dinner prices). I highly recommend this place.

Located in nice quiet neighborhood with off-street parking. The rooms are older type historic Inn-type rooms which are cozy and clean. Our room was good sized with nice space and was comfortable. If your looking for 5-star Crowne Plaza look elsewhere but rooms are cozy and clean historic Inn rooms. They have a nice roof deck area with chairs to sit and enjoy the sun or stars or view of the water. This place could be an absolute gem. The grounds need some definite care and leave soo much to be desired. If the little entrance office area was de-cluttered and landscaping was paid attention to could be 5-star for an Inn type place. Based on cost, location and room being clean would definitely stay again for 1-2night stay but beyond that the grounds for middle of summer and location could be so much more and sort of a shame. The right attention to this could make this an adorable Inn. Would say more 3.25 stars but can't give partial ratings and cuteness, cleanness and cost of rooms deserved a good rating. If they decluttered and cleaned the office and put love to the grounds they could probably get double per night.

My fiance and I visited our parents staying here last year when we were first approached by her screaming we could not visit hotel guests amenities were for paying guests only and we would be towed if we did not move our car. This year we booked our own room for the weekend (the penthouse mind you) and my parents booked their own room and we were treated the SAME way as the women who wrote the review above. Pounding on the door at 9pm accusing us of sneaking guests into the room and being disruptive when we were only enjoying dinner and some laughs on the patio. Ridiculous and unprofessional I will never give this place my business again!

The people were great; friendly and helpful. You have to expect for the price that the accommodations would be pretty spartan, and they are; tiny beds and rough linens lots of talking, snoring, floor creaking neighbors and all that, but I don't really care...I'm just there to lay my head, as is everyone else there. The location is better than you could even imagine: in an old coastal rescue station right by the water and down the street from the beach; fabulous. A couple of things that could use improvement: the bathroom experience. You can't control everyone's actions, but my shower experience typically consisted of walking over a soaked floor and taking a cold shower with hand soap. Granted, next time I'll bring soap, but it wouldn't kill them to stock some there for purchase. Maybe seal the shower doors a bit better? And I don't know how you get *more* hot water, but it would just be a nice plus. Also, I'm thinking maybe there could be *some* lower age limit in the dorms. I was thankfully in the "old guys end" (like 21+), but I was a little caught off guard to wake up and find like...12-year-olds on the other end of the room, seemingly unsupervised. It's just a matter of behavior and habits. So maybe...18? 16? I don't know. At any rate, when I come back to Nantucket, I'll be staying here.

The stairs have no carpeting, so anyone walking in and out makes tons of noise. Quiet hours end at 7AM, and so people were having full on conversations with each other and on their cellphones at full volume while other people were trying to sleep. Probably the loudest hostel I've ever stayed at (out of many). I don't think the people running it realize that not everyone wakes up early like them, and they live in their own cottages so they aren't witnessing it every day either.

I felt very uncomfortable the first night and told Ryan I wanted a refund to avoid "pain and suffering" on all sides. I was granted a full refund: however, I was soon thereafter, for no reason banished from the hostel and property. The text to me read, "If you come back it will be considered trespassing and you will be arrested." That was cruel and totally uncalled for and undeserved. The situation was very poorly handled. Trained chimps could have done it better.

The hostel is close to public transit, but I used Uber to get around Boston. Loved the proximity to Chinatown (hand-made soup dumplings!) and the short walk to Boston Common. The staff were nice, and helpful. The kitchen facility is top-notch (I've been to hostels where the only kitchen conveniences were a microwave and running water) - didn't even have to wash my own utensils. I also didn't have to brave going to a sports bar to see the World Cup games; they were playing live on the hostel's large screen. The entire building was clean - especially the bathrooms - and I can't think of anything I might have needed that they didn't have. It had been a minute since I stayed at a hostel, and I thought I might feel out of place as a middle-aged adult traveling alone; I didn't! There were lots of adultier adults around. Boston is an incredibly walkable city, and aside from the JFK Library, I was impressed at how close the hostel was to so many iconic locations: Beacon Street, the Commons, City Hall, and the Boston Public Library, just to name a few. I loved how I didn't need a car to get to any of those locations, because everything was walking distance. The hostel itself was outstanding. I loved that for guests, there's a dedicated floor for pool, hanging out, a kitchen area to eat and cook, etc., but I also loved the daily activities they had for guests: On the night I stayed, they had a drinks mixer to meet people, and I got to meet people from Peru, Germany, New Jersey, Australia, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, and other places. We did a bar crawl based on availability and who the staff knew and had relationships with. The staff took us to the bar where the Founders planned the Boston Tea Party. As a guy who loves history and reads about history and travels to places for its historical sites, there was genuinely nothing cooler than being to go get a drink at the same bar where our Founders planned to throw tea into the Harbor. I have to warn people that I thought about bringing a lock before my stay, but I didn't. The front desk has locks for $8 in case you need something. The bathrooms were well maintained, and the bathrooms had soap and shampoo. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a place where the staff will facilitate ways for you to meet people and hang out.
