I cannot even begin to express how bad my experience at this hostel was. My friend and I booked a…read morereservation here under the impression we had booked a room with two beds. My WHOLE issue here is actually the owner, she was extremely inappropriate and unprofessional. We were given a phone call with the woman that began with her already angry before even talking to us or being made aware of our situation. She was irate the whole phone call during which she yelled the whole time and said things like, "(we) should've called to confirm that the room we booked is what we booked" (I've never had to call a place to confirm that what I booked online was in fact what I booked??) she said that she 'wasn't my mother' and 'it wasn't her job to confirm', multiple times. Then, after she was belligerent the whole phone call (and mind you I was respectful and genuinely never said a rude word) I finally said look I'm gonna have to leave bad reviews because I don't want other people to experience this. (And I don't, you should run) She told me I was threatening her and she was recording the conversation. (I hope was and that she plays the convo back someday and realizes how unprofessional and rude she sounded.) And then she hung up on me. Leaving reviews is the only power we as consumers have, so I feel compelled to leave one. Note: it was very hot in the hostel, didn't seem very clean in common spaces, and at that point we decided we didn't feel safe enough to stay there because of the way this woman treated us so we left and stayed elsewhere. Be aware that apparently you need to call to Confirm you want the room you pay for and that driveway parking is actually not guaranteed even if you book/pay for it. You may end up with street parking and a $5/day parking pass. Make sure you read all the fine print. I hate that they're able to prey on people who can't afford nicer accommodations just because Providence hotels are expensive. But, most importantly, do everything in your power to avoid having to talk to the owner.

We were able to walk to the brewery down the road, Walmart, and Antonio's pizza up the street. We didn't have a car. We utilized the public transit or Uber to get to the main areas. There's a bus station outside the hotel that takes you straight to the main drag for $2 and roughly 10 minutes. The cons: Everything. It's definitely not clean. I felt gross walking on the floor. The towels and sheets are paper thin Check in is 3pm. I arrived at 3:15 and was told I couldn't check in yet. I said "oh the reservation said 3pm" and the lady said "oh. Okay here's your keys" so that was a really odd interaction The room was paid for online through the motel 6 website. When we left for dinner and returned we were asked to pay cash for the room?? Really confusing because we paid in full. I showed the lady the email saying we've paid in full. She told us to check back tomorrow that the credit card machine was down. Still unsure what this whole interaction was about. It's pretty evident some people live here full time. You see them walk in with Walmart carts with a months worth of food. It can get pretty loud with music and kids running down the hall. To sum up. This wasn't our first 20 choices. But it was the only option under $500 a night.

Now let's talk about the noise. You are totally screwed if you are a light sleeper. The Manor hotel was the section we stayed at. It was across the street from Hotel Viking. Way too much noise coming from the street and from the Hotel Viking. First night, there was a couple fighting so loud underneath my window around 1:30 AM that startled and woke me up. Not sure they were aware how loud they were and how long they will be together for. Had a family of 5 staying above us and their children's feet were like cinderblocks. Loud, heavy and rude. Second night, there was a wedding going on across the street and at 2:00 am the party took itself outside and woke me up again. Best part is that I was wearing ear plugs on both nights. Breakfast included was nice and better than expected, but the coffee was just mediocre. Most of the staff were pleasant. Now let's talk about the OWNER GINO, who asked how my stay was when I checked out. I was honest and although I know he cannot control the noise or clientele he suggested when I go home to get some sleep. That backhanded comment just cost him this review and for me to NEVER stay there again and to NEVER recommend this dump to anyone visiting Newport.

The text to me read, "If you come back it will be considered trespassing and you will be arrested." That was cruel and totally uncalled for and undeserved. The situation was very poorly handled. Trained chimps could have done it better.

It was also quiet, with just two other guests who were friendly and not overly frightening. - The bathroom was relatively clean, and the water was nice and hot in the shower. - We did not see any cockroaches or other vermin! The Bad - The hallways were filthy, smelled like cat urine, and had either poor or no lighting. - The television in our room did not even have an electrical cord to plug it in! - The only lamp in the room was both broken and had no lightbulb. The Worst - The worst thing of all, as we arrived at this hostel, is that there was no obvious way to get inside. The first floor was dark and shuttered, so we ended up phoning the person whose number we had received. They demanded a $100 deposit thorugh Venmo, and that we download a curious door-locking app, both of which we did, and we were able to get in. One week later, and we still have not received our Venmo "deposit". - The next worst thing of all, the next morning, we could not open the door from the third floor onto the stairwell, because it was blocked by a human body! We thought this person was dead at first, but we could hear steady breathing. We didn't know what to do, so we decided to retreat to our room and have some breakfast and use the bathrooms etc. Fortunately, when we tried again an hour later, the body had woken up and disappeared. The Ugly - A mouse kept one of us awake at night. In the morning, a paper bag with food had a perfect little hole chewed out, and the blueberry muffin next to the hole had little mouse-sized bites taken out.

If you set your expectations accordingly, you will not be disappointed with your stay at Sonesta…read moreSelect - Newport Middleton. The hotel averages a 3 star rating. It's not anything fancy or luxurious, but it's not a dingy shack either. We were in Rhode Island for only 3 days and 2 nights, so we weren't too picky about where we were staying. We spent most of the time outside of the hotel, so we just needed somewhere clean, safe, and moderately priced. Location: The hotel is located in a suburban area of Middleton with not much going on. It seems like a relatively quiet area. We had no issues with safety during our stay. It's about a 10-15 minute drive from Newport and main attractions. Parking: There's plenty of parking on-site. Service: Staff was friendly and efficient with checking in and out. They require a security deposit upon check-in that will be refunded during check out. Front desk is open 24/7. Complimentary housekeeping services are only done by request OR for stays longer than 7 days. So, don't expect your trash to be cleaned or your towels to be restocked or your bed to be made. You have to call the front desk and pick up items on your own. Room & Amenities: We booked a deluxe king bedroom. It was pretty small for a room advertised as a "DELUXE KING", but it was enough space and storage for just the two of us for a short stay. The room included your typical amenities for a 3 star hotel: a king sized bed, desk + chair, sofa bed, dresser, flat screen tv, mini fridge, coffee/tea maker, closet with iron + board, and a bathroom. Toiletries (body wash, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap) and towels were included. The bed was comfortable enough to sleep in. The shower had good water pressure. Hotel Amenities: Wifi is free, fast, and reliable. There's a 24 hour fitness room but it's TINY. They have an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a hot tub. The lobby is spacious with plenty of seating and tables for lounging and work. There are snacks and beverages available for purchase, but they are overpriced. There's a communal microwave and ice machine. No complimentary breakfast or meals. No bar or restaurant(s). No room service. Price/Value: We paid ~$332 for the stay after getting a discount through Triple A. It was close to $140 per night and about $60 in taxes/fees. I feel as if this price is a bit inflated and excessive for what the hotel offers... it's a few steps above a cheap motel. It lacks some of the basic amenities/services that hotels provide. I'd be more satisfied with the price if they had a continental breakfast, room service, upgraded TVs, or a larger fitness facility. Cleanliness: We had no issues with cleanliness. The whole room was in good condition. No musky smells, no dirty sheets, no bugs, no signs of mold or aging. The floors, walls, and carpet were clean. Shower, toilet, and sink areas were well kept. Noise Level: So our room happened to be right near the pool. And we also happened to be there during a time when there were a bunch of high schoolers also staying. The walls are very thin, so it was annoyingly loud at times. HVAC: Room temperature is controlled by a wall thermostat - it worked well during our stay. Our room heated up quickly. Objective rating? 3 stars. Subjective rating? 4 stars... If you can look past what the hotel lacks, you'll be content with what it offers. It did the job for us by providing a space that was comfortable, clean, and safe. Despite the cons, we enjoyed our short stay at Sonesta. It's just the price tag that throws me off.

The bathroom floor still had the previous people's hair and debris. It was clearly not vacuumed. There was also dirty hand prints above the toilet (from when men lean forward to pee!!) It was not clean. On top of that, there is no hairdryer. There was no backup toilet paper rolls. There was no extra blanket in the closet. Bare minimum! The toilet paper holder was rusted and falling out of the wall. I also found it strange that the only mirror in the room was by the sink. No additional mirror in the living space of the room. It made it very difficult to get dressed with three women trying to all use one mirror in a tiny space. To top it off, the ice machine was broken, and they nickel and dime you for everything. Things most places offer for free, such as WiFi & coffee, you need to pay for here. Sonesta was no bueno. Unless you like lipstick on a pigs, it only looks good from far away!
