Stuff that is on order becomes much more expensive when it actually comes in and they will NOT cancel orders in those circumstances, just give you a store credit. If I could give negative stars I would!! I will never shop in this store again - the manager is incredibly rude and has no clue about customer service!!! They sold me a broken light fixture for almost $400, and REFUSED to take it back. In addition, when we previously ordered different lights from them, it took 5 weeks to get one small part for it. I have been going to Hi-Light on Central Avenue for years. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. They really know what they are talking about. The last time I was there, I bought a beautiful, intricate lamp. It arrived in many different pieces, and I struggled to assemble it on my own. good range of product (though badly displayed and far less than their internet catalogue), but you will do best if you walk in knowing what you want (and with your own judgement re taste and aesthetics as theirs can be awful or just ignorant) and are extremely assertive about questions. I've worked with several different sales people; none were particularly knowledgable nor focused on more than wrapping up the sale quickly. I had hoped for more in an in-store experience, with so many internet competitors, but it really wasn't and I did keep trying (perhaps foolishly) over multiple visits. Additionally, they are downright paranoid about product names, prices and even the technical spec's; though I don't know why as mostly the prices are ok. I think that if they think they've been burned by a lack of customer loyalty, they don't understand that their attitude is what has caused it. read more

As the new year approached I felt the need to correct two lighting problems and I knew where to head...down Central Avenue to Hi -Light. For decades of home ownership we have been purchasing an array of lighting solutions from them. Ten years ago I purchased a wall fixture with three glass shades that was just right for our bathroom. Then we gutted the bathroom but the one thing I planned to reuse was this fixture. We elected towelbars, plumbing fixtures etc in keeping with it and the renovated bathroom was just great until . . . the center bulb/socket wouldn't light. Problem two...we broke one of the globes on a Kovacs floor lamp and they readily ordered it and tightened up the lamp. John took good care of my concerns, a gentleman from athe back tightened the floor lamp arm, and Rena expertly rewired the bathroom fixture. We will continue to purchase there as they offer such expert guidance from selection to repairs if needed. Then there was light for our new year. Thank you Hi-Light. read more

Stay Away, my wife and I purchased $7500 of lighting from them for our new home. About 2 weeks ago we had that 90 degree temps, and one day one of the lights on our back deck exploded. At that time the lights were installed about 4 months earlier, so my wife immediately called Hi Light. At first they said just take a picture and send it to us with the invoice. We were then told the manager John said the light must have been installed incorrectly and they would NOT cover it. They said the replacement glass would cost $50, and my wife asked could you at least ship it to us, and they said you must pay for that too. So we went to Hi Light to pick it up and speak to the manager, and he said they never warranty glass, even if it was defective. When I said to the manager we received a broken bulb at delivery and replaced it ourselves, and they forgot to order our family room lights, so they came in so late the electrician had to make a special trip back at a cost of $80 to us. At that the manager said lower your voice walked to the door opened it for us to leave. I dont understand how people in business can be so rude, stay away from Lo Light read more

Have lived in Southern Westchester for over 20 years and have always done my light shopping there. Between a minor interior remodel AND a large tree falling on my property and taking out some outdoor lighting, ive been there a couple of time in the past few weeks. There selection is massive, and while I have never worked with a specific sales person, I have had only very positive experiences with everyone I've worked with. I suppose if you shopped for many of their products on-line, you might find them cheaper, but maybe not, AND... you don't get to SEE the fixture in person, which is very important. You also don't get any help or guidance when you shop on-line. They have helped my wife and me make some very wise decisions over the years, and we are both grateful. I see some people griping about their inventory and billing being low tech, so what? I have never found that to get in the way of anything less than a great experience. This store has an incredible selection of lights for every possible application. The only problem I ran into was being faced with too many great options to choose from and not being able to make up my mind. But this was where Hi-Light really set itself apart and earned my 5-start review... their sales staff was incredibly helpful, friendly, and attentive. They took their time with me, answered every question I had, and went out of their way to make sure I walked away happy. I walked away feeling like the people that worked there genuinely liked their jobs and that they were just going through the paces counting the minutes till closing time. Worst. Service. Ever. Ordered lamp on line 02/17, Credit card was immediately charged. On 02/22 I sent an email asking for a status on the shipment. Later that day I received a rude email saying they had emailed me on 02/20 asking if I was ok with the florescent option (never received any email). Same day, sent reply back, Yes, Florescent was fine. 03/01 sent email asking for a status of the lamp. No reply. 03/02 sent email asking for a status of the lamp, No reply. 03/03 - called them and was informed they cannot fulfill the order. STILL WAITING FOR REFUND OF PURCHASE NEVER FULFILLED. Not cool. They've had my money for two weeks and couldn't fulfill the order to begin with. Very pissed. read more

John A was so knowledgeable, great to work with and helpful as I struggled to choose lighting for an entire house. Many of the lights I chose were in stock and I was able drive away with my selections.
