A seriously adorable little brewery in the perfect stop for us on our way home from Hart Springs. We stopped by on a rainy afternoon and were delighted by the inventive menu with tons of new favorites. The Thai pizza was absolutely delicious, with a creamy peanut butter sauce drizzled on top and perfectly complimented with a juicy hoppy IPA. The kids had a great time playing their variety of games and drawing on the giant chalkboard wall. While it was an early afternoon, it was clear that the brewery hosts a variety of evening events, including trivia and music. I've driven by this place a few times and I finally had a chance to stop by and check them out. It just happened to be July 4 and it was pouring rain. I ran in and sat at the bar. There was about five or six people inside, but the place filled up as time went on- with every bar seat taken by 8 PM. Taylor, the bartender, was super nice and helpful. He gave me the food menu and let me know that the kitchen closed before bar closing time. They had a weekend special of a fried bologna sandwich, but I went for the pretzel bites. I also had a flight of beers; they basically let you have as many as you want and they're all the same price. I really enjoyed the black IPA. I had quite a few mini beers. There was really only one that I didn't like. It was their beertini, which was a riff on a gin martini and it even came with olives. Some people like it, but it just wasn't my style, which is weird because I actually like gin, and martinis and olives. The local crowd was awesome. I talked to everyone at the bar. They were very welcoming. They have a mug club, which has a six month waiting list. There's a limited amount of mugs and prior mug club members have priority to reenlist before new members are inducted in. Each year the mug is different and has a number on it so you know which one is yours and you keep the mug there. Mug club members have special events throughout the week and they get either a larger poor than regular customers or the same poor at a cheaper price/discounted pours. Mug club membership is $140 a year. They also have access to new brews before the general public. They have trivia on Thursdays and that books up fast, so you need a reservation for that. Came here for the first time on the day after Christmas and it was SLAMMED! I felt so bad for the waitstaff because it was a full house with only 1 bartender, 1 busser and 1 chef. Took a good while to get our food but they were super apologetic and kind. Hopefully they can have more foresight on staffing for busy days! What a place. Our second time here as a great dinner spot on the way home from Atlanta. Had the "Everyday is Saturday " and "They Call Me Baltastic" (a Kõlsch and a Porter) with dinner. I had the Thai Flatbread and my companion the Smoked Wings with Lemon Pepper rub for dinner. All were top-notch. The bartender was both professional and friendly. They were patient as we hemmed and hawed through both menus! Came here for my first time. Took the one server about 20mins to come to our table of 4, which isn't his fault because he's the only one serving. Then you have this one family playing in the bathroom with their kids running around. The 2nd server didn't show up till 45mins. Mind you, she was sitting at the bar having a drink. Came in after doing some shopping, no one was there to greet us so we sat down at a table. After 20 minutes I realized we weren't getting serviced unless we went to the bar. I ordered a beer and some wings. The wings are advertised on their menu for $12 but were told that they are now $17 for 6 wings. If you want ranch or veggie sticks it's an additional $3. Fine, it is what it is, however after 30 minutes of waiting for some wings, the bartender let me know that the order was never printed out in the kitchen and that they'll be out shortly. The beer and wings were good but based alone of the service and lack of communication I would not return. I still tipped 20% because in this economy, everyone needs a hand. Please update your menus they are misleading. Your bartender had 2 patrons at the bar, it would cost her nothing to provide better service. read more

Leave it to Ben to find a way to get in a brewery while visiting his mother. Not far from their new house in Ocala is this small, vibrant brewery. They have a list of different beers that they make but they also have guest taps with ciders and drinks for those who want something different. This was great for Ben's mom as she enjoys ciders. Mostly on tap were CiderBoys, which is a great brand/brewery. They also have food but we were just coming from a late lunch. They are also listed on Craftapped. It is an app you can sign up for that gives you 10 BOGOs per month. Ben signed up in January when it was on a special for the year for only $10.00. That is insane and Ben has gotten his money out of it a few times over again already. We used it during our visit (especially since this is so far from us) so two beers for the price of 1 is always a great deal. He got Hiatus Pink Boots Blend 2021 and Still Hazy After All These Beers. I can see this being a stop in our future when visiting his parents as it's less than 2 miles from their house. read more

The two beers we had were good -one of them currently being brewed on-site The bar was full of folks enjoying beer, but we were the only ones eating and seated at one of the long communal tables. Chairs were cute and colorful but uncomfortable. I think they need to figure out if this is a bar or a restaurant - if it's a restaurant they need to work on the ambiance... if it's a bar, it needs music. Hiatus Brewing Company is Marion County's undiscovered gem of microbrews. It's certainly not the biggest, and certainly not the flashiest of breweries compared to the larger brewers in the area. Not until you taste what they are brewing, that is. Hiatus brews some of the most delicious, well balanced, expertly crafted beers that I have had in memory. One (apparent) regular told me that the owner brews everything in small, 3 barrel (6-Keg) batches himself. It shows. Every beer I tried here has had the complexity and smoothness of the most expertly crafted home-brew. The Still Hazy is a delicious, citrusy NEIPA, One Hit Wonderful is a perfectly balanced, dank IPA with Citra, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops and great malt profile, and Not Sorry is a rich, luxurious stout with a hint of peanut butter. Lately, I've noticed a trend of flavored beers, and beers that taste like they might have after-brewing additions to change the taste or make up for shortcomings in technique or ingredients. Not so at Hiatus. Even the Not Sorry, a peanut butter stout, tastes like peanut-butter powder was used, not a flavor extract. This brewery stands out for excellent, classically brewed small-batch beer. They even offer small glasses without the usual premium on pricing to let you taste a few more than you otherwise might be able to. read more

Hiatus Brewing Co. is a wonderful gem for South West Ocala. The location offers ample parking for guests which is a huge plus especially during busy times. The interior is well lit and filled with fun colors. An awesome rotating playlist of punk tunes fill the open room. This is my second visit and now they are offering bar snacks to enjoy with your beverage. I say beverage because Hiatus offers locally brewed beers made in house, rotating taps of larger breweries, ciders, wine, and even a select few Champaign options. I went for the One Hit Wonderful and found it very enjoyable on a hot day. Snack wise we went for the street corn nachos. My goodness. They were out of this world. Hiatus is clean, well laid out, has a pleasing atmosphere with helpful and friendly staff (Adam & Katie) Tom, a beer lover, was more than enthused while trying some of their brews. I am not a beer drinker but I did try a couple of their cocktails with 'Giggle Water' as the base. 'Giggle Water' is gin, vodka, bourbon or tequila inspired wine which makes for some interesting drinks. I tried 'Bees Knees' and a 'Rita'. Our dinner starter was Skillet Nachos with added chicken topped with awesome home-made sauce. Yum-eee. We also had Lucas Franks...Beef-Chili-Cheese. Tasty in a unique bun. Perfect for an afternoon stop. Which is exactly what we did. My family stopped in looking for a small bite and some new beverages. Hiatus being local was a huge selling point. I'm not a beer fan, but Hiatus carries Ciderboys Cider, which I was eager to try. My mom did try a few of the local beers, an Irish Stout and an IPA. She enjoyed both. I tried the strawberry cider and peach cider. Peach was definitely preferable. The strawberry tasted too much like apple juice. Peach, being a stronger flavored fruit, came across well. Even my dad, our driver, got the Heineken Heineken (that's what it's called on the menu), non- alcoholic beer. For food, my dad and I had the hot dogs. Mine plain, his chili and cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed mine and appreciated the bun, split on top and toasted. If you get the chili dogs, ask immediately for a fork and knife. My mom had the veggie flatbread, which she said has good flavor. Would definitely swing by again for another try when in town. read more
