One of my girlfriends and I had a lovely experience and tasting today at Hiatus Craft House. The first of its kind in Camarillo, I am so glad our area has a distillery like Hiatus because the vibes are amazing and I'm sure this spot will become even more popular once the word gets out about this super cool place. My friend and I came in today for a tasting as we won a free flight tasting. However, we loved the experience and liquors so much we walked away with a few bottles a piece and we haven't been able to stop talking about how great this spot is since we left. Located off Flynn Rd (freeway exit) this spot is tucked away in the different business centers that are hidden away in Camarillo off Flynn. It's easy to get to because it's not far from the freeway and the GPS for this address takes you right there. Extra kudos as they made sure to have outside signage on the street to help you know where to turn into their parking lot. Hiatus is the perfect size in my opinion as it's comfortable and cozy but still spacious and well laid out. We counted them to have about 18 seats but sounds like they welcome more as there is plenty of standing room and the high tops are spacious where some could sit and some could stand. We loved that they had a cozy bar top so you can interact with the owners and be more involved in seeing the pours and tasting experience. However, if you're more here to mingle and sip with friends - plenty of comfortable tables away from the bar area. The owners are Dave and Dawn, they couldn't have been lovelier people. Super welcoming and friendly. We learned so much about them, their business and little fun facts by sitting up at the bar near them. I love the family aspect of this bar because some of the artwork labels are crafted by their young adult daughter. Very badass. Again, the owners were so gracious and kind, answered lots of our questions, were open to ideas/feedback and we so generous to let us try little samples of some upcoming batches since it was quiet when we came right about opening hours. They are currently open only on Saturdays so make sure to set your calendar accordingly. Now on to the good stuff, the liquors were fabulous! 5 stars all the way. What impressed me the most was the variety and uniqueness of some of the liquors. It's cool that they truly have something for everyone. You like sweet, they have it. You like spicy, no problem. Creamy, light, floral - you name it they had some variety of what your tastebuds would be calling for. The bottles and labels fit the vibes and names of the drinks just right. Some of my favorite tastes of the day were their honey lemongrass vodka, their blossom gin and I snagged two bottles of their creamier liquors which were mocha and pumpkin spice latte. Exceptional! I'm even more excited about some of their releases coming out in the next month or two....stay tuned. Did I mention how reasonable the bottles were for sale?! They are almost giving the liquor away. You can't beat their current price point. After talking to the owners they really just want to keep the prices reasonable so that people will come in and feel more inclined to take a bottle home to share and spread the word about. So smart. You must stop in to shop here because their bottles make the cutest gifts and of course just taste great if you're just looking for a cool new bottle to stock your own personal liquor cabinet with. Dave and Dawn are really on to something great here. It's a fun experience to go to a liquor tasting distillery that's local in Ventura county. The inside is very well done and it's a comfortable place to sip and chat. What I especially love is that they buy so many of the fresh fruit and vegetable ingredients for the liquors from the local farmers market here in Camarillo. We love a local business that supports other local businesses. My friend and I really had the best time and I can't wait to come back again soon and with some more friends. 5/5 all day long.

We all need to push the "pause" button every now-and-again. Hiatus is the perfect spot to take a break and sip to the good life. The family owned, small business, in the industrial part of Camarillo is a nice addition to the area. Its a quick Uber ride away from Old Town Camarillo. Or a pit-stop before grabbing food at Institution. The Distillery and Tasting Room does not have food options available, so eat before or after! The owners are great, friendly people that enjoy what they do. Stop by for a flight tasting, learn about how your favorite products are made, and take a bottle home with you. The prices are great! I'd prefer giving these small batch spirits as gifts, rather than going to BevMo. Favorites List: Pinot Noir Reposado. A smooth reposado spirit made of 100% Blue Agave. Aged 3 months in french oak barrels, the color is a light golden caramel. The flavor and bite was perfect to drink neat, over ice, or to mix into a Paloma or Margarita. Mocha Crème Liqueur. Kentucky bourbon whiskey. Rich coffee. Velvety chocolate. Pinch of vanilla. Starbucks is missing this from their menu. Blueberry Liqueur. Pancakes was my first thought. The spirit is deliciously smooth, light, and fun. Drink straight as a dessert beverage or mix it with some vodka for a Blueberry Martini. I might just add this to the pancake batter for a fun breakfast remix! Ported Bourbon. Straight Kentucky bourbon. Finished with 2% port wine. Aged in Pinot Noir barrels. Bourbon that won't break the bank. I'd use this to make Old-Fashions at the house. Go find out which are your favorites! And make sure to share! Be on the lookout for their cocktails!

Super yummy drinks I went here once before. They had just opened so we had the place to ourselves. It was quiet and were able to chat about the drinks. I was so excited to be back to try the bourbon. This is a place you cannot skip the flight is yummy I really recommend the blueberry its got a lot of honey aftertaste that I reallllly love i recommend the mocha crème suuuper creamy AND DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS my last recommendation would be the lemon grass. You can grab 6 with the flight if you go with different options that's ok because you cannot go wrong with any of them. it's soooooo good. They're so nice and willing to answer questions.

How lucky we are to have this fabulous distillery in Camarillo! This distillery is hidden away from the traffic and offers an escape. We each chose a flight and were able to choose 6 tastes from a selection of house made spirits. The creativity in use of botanicals and varied wood aging is abundant in their offerings. The cream liqueurs were a favorite of my husband and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the blueberry liqueur. I was equally impressed by the gin, ported bourbon, and Pinot Noir reposado. Service was wonderful, friendly, and relaxed. The tasting room is absolutely beautiful with use of natural light, wood textures, and living plants. We will definitely return and look forward to buying additional bottles or limited runs.

A true hidden gem for both locals and visitors, and the perfect place to spend an hour or two. I've done their full tour before and learned so much about how much local produce comes through their doors to become the incredible spirits they're known for. Such a cool experience if you haven't done it yet. This time around, my friend and I popped into the tasting room to explore their seasonal liqueurs. On our list: * PERSIMMON LIQUEUR * APRICOT UMESHU * AGAVE LIQUEUR * GRAPEFRUIT CORDIAL I'm here to confirm these were ALL amazing! truly run, don't walk, to try these seasonal specials! I was so smitten I left with bottles of the apricot and grapefruit, but honestly, you can't go wrong with any of them. Hans was our teacher, mentor, and mixologist with the mostest. He crafted custom cocktails for both of us that blew our minds but still felt doable enough to recreate at home thanks to his tips. I went with a sweet apricot Collins, and my friend had a strawberry-forward old fashioned. 10/10 for both...easily some of the best cocktails we've had in a minute. Ventura Spirits really is your one-stop shop: tours, tastings, cocktails, and shopping all under one roof. If you have friends or family visiting, this is the adult activity to show off Ventura's best flavors and local produce. Huge thank you to Hans and the entire VS team for another wonderful day, learning and drinking, my two favorite things.

It wasn't your typical corner haunt. There was an intentionality here that turned a simple evening out into a genuine education. The curation of spirits was nothing short of impressive, but what set the experience apart was the conversation. I arrived knowing the difference between a glass and a bottle, but left with a newfound appreciation for the nuances of rum, the craftsmanship behind a smooth whiskey, and the unexpected complexities hidden within a well-made vodka. Each pour came with a story, a history, and a level of expertise that transformed every sip into a lesson. The atmosphere was the perfect anchor for it all--utterly chill and devoid of the frantic, forced energy you find elsewhere. It was the kind of place where the music sits at just the right volume and the lighting invites you to actually linger. It was refreshing to find a spot that treats its craft with such respect while keeping the vibe completely grounded. I walked out feeling a little more cultured and a lot more relaxed. Consider this my official notice: I'll definitely be back.

From the moment you walk in, it feels like you've been transported somewhere else. Every room is thoughtfully designed, and the atmosphere is immersive and unlike anything we've experienced before. The storyteller was welcoming, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable. I really enjoyed learning about the history of alcohol and the stories behind each tasting. The cocktails were definitely on the stronger side, but you could tell they were crafted with high-quality ingredients. Unfortunately, our experience was somewhat tainted by our hostess. She came across as impatient and unwelcoming, which set the tone early on. When we first entered, we were each handed a small glass of liquid, and then she immediately walked away without explaining what it was or what we were supposed to do with it. We assumed it was a welcome drink, so we all took a sip only to discover it was actually a palate cleanser. A little guidance would have gone a long way. The next room had a beautiful bayou-inspired setting. While the historical information was interesting, I found myself wishing the experience leaned more into the mystical or magical themes that the venue seems to promise. One thing worth mentioning is the restroom setup. I don't mind coed restrooms, but there was no signage explaining that the restroom is shared with two open stalls. Some guests may appreciate a heads-up, especially those who might feel uncomfortable or triggered by that arrangement. After the tastings, you're taken outside. A few of us stopped to use the restroom first, and when we returned, our friend had already left the table and all of our drinks had been cleared away. We were disappointed because we hadn't finished them. Our friend had been told she couldn't take the drinks with her, but when we returned we could take them outside. She was told that they'd be there when we got back. We were disappointed. The outdoor portion of the experience also felt a bit rushed. We barely had time to enjoy our drinks, let alone take photos of the beautiful space. The beignets at the end, however, were absolutely delicious and a highlight of the evening! Finally, we were escorted to the members-only bar, which was stunning. It gave off major Harry Potter vibes with its hidden, magical atmosphere. One of my friends was still finishing her drink on the patio since we couldn't legally walk on the sidewalk with it. Our hostess told us she'd come back for us but she never did. After waiting quite a while, another staff member happened to walk by and kindly helped us. Once inside, everything turned around again. The bartender was warm, friendly, and helped us choose drinks off the menu. I ordered the piña colada, and while it was much stronger and different from the traditional version I'm used to, it was absolutely delicious!!! Despite some service issues and inconsistent communication, I would still recommend Obscure. The concept is unique, the cocktails are excellent, and the venue is truly one of a kind. I'm hoping our hostess was simply having an off day, because with more attentive service, this experience could easily be five stars.

There was a very small bar/lounge area tucked away in this industrial building, Michael the owner warmly greeted our group of three and made us some cocktails with his handcrafted spirits. Proudly displayed along the walls were all of the awards his spirits have won in various contests. He gave us a tour of the distillery and all of the machines he uses and explained the processing for each spirit. It's really clear that this is a passionate artist who has honed his craft and enjoys sharing his excitement and art with others. You can tell that the end result is a high quality product. Gin is certainly the specialty here and it's pretty outstanding stuff. Usually if I sniff any old bottle of gin, it's not a pleasant experience but one whiff of this gin makes me want to inhale again. It's probably the only spirits I would bring to a fancy party or make craft cocktails at home with. I'm so glad to see Goleta Red spirits in local bars like the Goodland, I'd recommend any local or tourist to stop by for a tasting or try a craft cocktail for a real local experience!
