This place is sooo fun and such a cool, unique night out! The tastings were all so good, and the entertainment was incredible. Take a rideshare for sure as the drinks are strong and there are a lot of them! The service was impeccable and we learned a lot too. Such a cool experience and we cannot wait to go back for Season 2 and 3!

The Obscure distillery located in the downtown LA Arts District proved to be a fun surprising evening. Although I had seen the promos, I really had no idea what to expect. Our group entered and was provided six different cocktails with the creator explaining each different cocktail ranging from whiskey, to gin, to vodka. Each room had different atmosphere. The cocktails were each very distinct. Learned some interesting stories, met friendly patrons and my friend and I had and fun two hours.

A must try experience! A friend and I had a girls night out and a time was had!! This is a fully immersive experience with out of this world hand crafted Coctails!! The vibes and staff added an extra level to create an epic experience. Cannot wait to go back. If you are thinking about it, do it! You will not regret it.

Where do I start?! The hype is real, the tasting experience is one of a kind. I wish I could do it again for the first time. The spirits produced, are one of a kind, and the whole team that works there are amazing! The caliber of service, timing, hosting, knowledge, guiding and sprinkles of surprises are so memorable! The immersive ambiance really takes it to another level. I highly recommend this, for any celebration, or an excuse to dress up!

We had a fun evening! The atmosphere is very mystical and the drinks were tasty. The bartenders were fun to watch and the host of the evening was very informative. The servers are all friendly. We had a great time escaping from reality there. I look forward to trying their other 2 chapters. The beignets we're the best I have ever had! They don't serve any other food, but we had food from a stand outside that was delicious chicken strips and we ate them on the patio before going into the Obscure.

This is a themed immersive distillery and cocktail experience. It's dark, moody and mysterious inside. Upon arriving you'll receive a glass of sake to cleanse your pallet. Dress code is encouraged to dress all black. I would highly recommend to eat before coming. As soon as you're assigned to your table you'll receive 3 small tastings with 43-55% abv. I am not a one to sip on liquor to taste, therefore it was hard for me to enjoy any of the tasting. The experience also comes with 3 small cocktail tastings. The first two was also not to my usual liking but it was interesting. Rum Espresso Tonic, Old Fashioned and vodka cocktail with 3 options (sweet, sour, savory) The sweet vodka cocktail was probably the only drink that I was able to finish. I wish they would offer some chaser, lemon, lime or something for the non-drinkers. I felt like it was such a waste for me for not touching most of my drinks. End of the storytelling tour, we ended at a speakeasy lounge to finish our drink and they offered 4pcs of beignets for our group of 3 to share. I'd only recommend for those who truly enjoys hard liquor. For me, I barely touched any of the half shots nor cocktails and it's not a cheap experience. Overall the whole experience ended within 1hour and half.

This was an amazing experience! Highly suggest a great start to a date night! We were a little disappointed with the fact that the restaurant was not open at the time it stated and no communication on that it was for that night only etc. however the distillery it's self was beautiful the drinks were amazing I actually became a rum and gin fan that evening. I even became a member. The servers were perfect! We loved the history behind every tasting. Need to try

Really cool and different way to experience a distillery. Spooky fun vibes (not scary...and I'm a chicken!), fun staff, history lessons on alcohol while you sip? Yes, please! The tastings are a little strong but that's a good thing for most people lol! Ended the tour with beignets so that's a win in my book.

We came during Season 1, and ever since then The Obscure has been firmly on our "must return" list. This time we booked the 9:40pm Season 3 seating, and even getting inside was just as mysterious and fun as we remembered. We were handed a tarot card on arrival, this time we got The Magician:) We waited by the fire pits surrounded by those lava-flowing walls, soaking it all in, until our spirit guide was ready. Once the group was brought in, we were immediately greeted with a drink, an excellent way to start. From there, the experience is honestly just wow. It's one of those things you really have to experience at least once. The tasting journey is unlike anything else; it somehow feels like a Disney ride...but for adults, and with alcohol. After the tasting, we were taken outside to choose our final drink: sweet, savory, or sour, along with a beignet. A perfect (and delicious) ending to the journey. Then came the choice: hang out outside or head to the members-only Luminarium Bar. Naturally, we chose the Luminarium. Membership is simple--buy a bottle--and it's absolutely worth it. Members can bring up to 4 people. The bar is beautiful and feels like a hidden reward for making it to the end. Needless to say, we'll be back for every season. Tips: - definitely get a ride share, so you can enjoy all the drinks but they do offer zero proof too! - eat before you come! Coming on an empty stomach is asking for trouble - totally high heels friendly, just watch your step since it's dimly lit

Nothing dull to say about this place! Well thought concept & quite educational bout spirits & liquor. Good spot for a date night, even for groupies!

First time EVER experienced a distillery. I thought it was going to be a regular bar with food drinks when I have gotten invited here. I sure was wrong! Think about a wine tasting, but instead Of wine, its spirits. Drinks were well prepared, the tasting and the history being taught about the liquor we were drinking was AMAZING! Very informative. I loved the dim lighting, the intimacy of the experience. Really great for a date night. I do recommend eating something light before coming here. We are talking about 45-100 PROOF alcohol we are trying here lol you will leave out tipsy! PARKING street parking is free, the garages are pretty cheap if your arriving after 6pm. I paid $10

View from our table. We had bench seating up against the back wall. The artisan was creating jewelry off to the side.

Season 2 Tasting: A guided, group-paced drinking experience where the origin behind each spirit is shared with an artful flourish, all while guests savor the stories and the sip together. Each tasting is followed on by an accompanying cocktail, and an intermission lets guests linger over it before being guided into the next boozy tale. Our final tasting took place at a bar located in the back; a mystical-themed space featuring a second-floor lounge filled with cozy seating and small tables perfect for setting your drinks. The lounge's whimsical décor gave off Alice in Wonderland vibes. THE DRINKS. Note: Strong tastings alert! Eat something beforehand to help you power through. Spirits (served neat) - Harbinger Jakarta Rum - Rites of Fall Rye (American Chestnut) - Three Fates Génépi Liqueur Cocktails - Philosopher's Punch (made with Harbinger Jakarta Rum) - Darling 58 (made with Rites of Fall Rye) - Serendipity (made with Three Fates Génépi Liqueur) THE FOOD. There is none... at least not in the traditional sense. Instead, you're handed a tarot card at the end of the tasting, which becomes your voucher to a freshly made beignet next door. We picked up a few and they were warm, crisp, and dusted with powdered sugar. Still, it would be cool if they offered something small; mixed nuts or a tiny bite that complements the cocktails. THE VIBE. Steeped in whimsical charm, the space felt inviting and intimate. Moss draped from above created an enchanted canopy that softened the entire area. The bar was backed with a brick façade, reminiscent of a fairy-tale castle. Candles were placed throughout, gently illuminating the guests in a dreamy amber glow. Off to the side, an artisan crafted jewelry; their work streamed on a television overhead. Completed pieces were on display for purchase. THE PARKING. Street parking is free, and there's a paid lot right next door. But if your whole party plans to drink, calling an Uber is the wiser choice - we certainly went that route. THE VERDICT. Delightfully entertaining. The stories behind each spirit pulled us into their world, but honestly, watching the room grow merrier, louder, and slightly more sloshed as the evening unfolded was just as enjoyable to witness as the stories were to hear. Definitely an experience worth checking out.

back window was smashed in from robber.

I went to The Obscure for my birthday and the show itself was absolutely magical. The atmosphere inside is beautiful, intimate, and mysterious in the best way. The historical stories were incredible and the staff were very kind and welcoming. It truly felt like a special experience. One small suggestion would be to offer ice with the water and maybe a few light snacks during the show. There is a really delicious eatery right outside, so I definitely recommend eating before you go. Loved Chicken sandwich :) ! Unfortunately, the one major downside to the evening was that our car was broken into in the parking lot that guests are directed to use. We had paid to park there and still came back to find our back window smashed and several items stolen. It definitely put a damper on what was meant to be a very special birthday night. I understand that things like this can happen anywhere, but since this is the parking area recommended for guests, I would strongly encourage the venue to consider adding security or additional monitoring. I would have felt much safer knowing there was some form of protection for guests' vehicles. The show itself was wonderful and I would love to go again someday, but I would honestly feel nervous about parking there again unless security measures were improved. Overall, the performance and experience inside were truly special -- I just hope the parking situation can be addressed so future guests don't have the same unfortunate ending to their evening.

Ask the Community - The Obscure Distillery

My friends & I are very excited to visit The Obscure. We were hoping to come in August but there is only a July calendar available. Will there be an August calendar or are there times when no 'season' is available to buy ticket for?

Greetings! Calendars are usually released 1-2 weeks prior to the start of a given month. To be first to know, you can join our Early Bird notifications by texting #early to 213-513-7521!

If you scan the QR code on the back of a bottle you purchased after attending the VIP experience. Is there a discount for going back and sharing the same experience with different friends? Or can you reserve tickets and bring 2 to 3 people?

Hello! Scanning the QR code will unlock a number of perks. Give it a try! (No spoilers)

I booked for 8pm but only got 1 sticker by lack of attention, if I get the 8:20pm can I be seated next to my partner?

Greetings! It sounds like you need to exchange your ticket to a Date Night reservation. Fever can assist with reservation changes, just contact them using your order confirmation email or their app!

I will be coming with myself and one other person? is there tables for 2 ppl or do we have to sit with random people at a large table?

The Gallery option is your best bet

Will it be ok if we don't dress full black attire?

    Yes it will be okay.

I'm a fan of Obscure and loved Season 2. I noticed Season 3 has more shorter booking windows. Is the experience shorter for Season 3? What is the difference between Season 2 and Season 3?

Good eye! Start times are staggered in Season 3 for greater flexibility, more convenient scheduling options, and an expanded experience, but the format and duration remain. Each Season is 3 different spirits, 3 different cocktails made with those…

So for the gallery tickets, do I need to purchase 2 tickets for 2 people or does 1 ticket cover both people?

    One covers both!

Which seating ticket would you recommend for a couple to purchase ?this is our first time and I don't know which option would be best?

Greetings! Duet and solo reservations are banquet-style in the center of things, while the Gallery seats are set back along the perimeter and offer the most expansive view of the space (plus an extra drink).

Are there any non-alcoholic options? My partner would love this but I can't drink

Indeed! You can request non-alcoholic cocktails (zero proof) after booking or when you arrive! The bar team had a lot of fun with our mocktail program.

What is the difference between the duet and gallery reservation? Are you in a separate room for duet?

Same room, however Gallery seating is adjacent rather than across from each other. These tables also have more room and are set back for a wider perspective. (also, a bit like a chef’s table)

Is the 1x Season Two | Duet Reservation (two seats) for 2 people?

    Yes 👍

Can I just walk in to get a drink or do I need a reservation?

Hi there, I don't believe so. You have to have reservations or.. be a member and the members get to come in after hours on certain days and certain times I believe. :-)

Paying for the tickets means the drinks are paid for or are the drinks separate?

    Tickets include the drinks.

Can my friend and I buy tickets separately to the experience (two separate Grand Reservations), and still be assured we'll sit together there?…

You can reserve separately and be seated together so long as you select the same ticket type (ie Grand), date, and time.

Is it still necessary to text for an invite code, or can I just book directly on Feverup?

You can now make reservations for the cocktail experience on Fever! (Outside the tastings, the bar remains members only.)

Do they serve food to sober up? When they send code do they provide more detailed information regarding prices , tier's and how many drinks per person? What does the package…

No, they do not serve food but they serve food right next door. I wouldn't pay attention to the tier thing because all the seats are good. It consists of 3 spirits in their pure form and 3 cocktails that are made with each spirit. Price range is…

How long does it take to get the invite code after texting the number?

    Less than five minutes

Wondering how to get the invite code? Thank you.

Text the number on the website

    How long is the experience?

    About two hours long

What's the price point of this place? Do you pay for individual drinks or is it like a multiple course experience?

There are three different price points, the only difference is where you sit. Lowest tier, you're sitting in a long table with a bunch of people. Second tier, you have a gap between the tables. The top tier, you have your own table with the best…

I finally was able to check it off, thanks to a hotel offer with a dining credit. Dahlia is the gorgeous petite space behind the larger ground floor restaurant space now called Cabrillo (formerly Caldo Verde). Dahlia opened as a bespoke cocktail lounge, then began to offer tea. Now it's just tea. There are five 2-tops and two 4-top tables. All food and beverage venues at the Proper used to be under the auspices of famed chef Suzanne Goin and her business partner/sommelier Caroline Styne. They are no longer affiliated with the Proper, but many of their dishes/contributions remain. The last named vestige of them is on the tea menu, "Suzanne's Deviled-Egg Sandwich". The tea menu has several options: Classic, with a seasonal mocktail, or with different champagnes. I opted for the Classic experience, because the mocktail had mocha, not my fave. Server Lluvia was clearly a Dahlia veteran; she offered a tea-smelling of all the teas that interested me as well as crowd favourites. I ultimately chose one of these faves, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, which had passionfruit and vanilla. I declined milk/cream, but did get lemon. There were rock sugar sticks on the table. It seems the selection of tea sandwiches and sweet treats changes every so often, although the vanilla bean scone, dried currant scone, Devonshire cream and apricot orange jam seem like constants. The sandwich selection at my visit were: cucumber, crab/creme fraiche, beet hummus on pita, smoked salmon and Suzanne's deviled egg. All were delish, the beet, crab and deviled egg especially. The sweet treats were: orange fig butter cookie, spiced apple brown butter crumble, cranberry frangipane hand pie, chocolate mocha macaron, pumpkin madeleine, plus the 2 scones. All were excellent. There were no leftovers. A bit pricey, but a relaxing and lovely experience. The room was not crowded when I visited, adding to the calmness of my visit.

They always do a great job with decorating when they have a new theme in effect, and the Great Gatsby décor is no exception. The room is filled with lots of gold streamers, hanging gold light fixtures, art deco artwork, Roman columns, etc. Reservations are highly recommended. We checked in at the host stand with Emma who was very friendly. She seated us immediately at the bar as requested. We enjoy talking with the bartenders and watching them make drinks. Ruben was our bartender and he was excellent in all aspects. I started out with Between the Sheets from the Gatsby menu (rum, cognac, orange, lemon, $18). Rum and cognac is a great combo. This cocktail is spirit forward and well balanced. She started out with a Bartender's Reserve (you call the spirit and flavor profile, and the bartender crafts something special for you, $20). She gave parameters of no hard liquors like whiskey or cognac, not sweet, and not refreshing (i.e. no cucumber). Ruben made the most amazing gin based cocktail. Some of the ingredients he mentioned were plum, passion fruit, pineapple, lime, and a bit of chartreuse and soda. It was complex and perfectly balanced, with great flavors. We have been here many times, and he even served it in a unique tiki mug that we've never seen here before. Now it was my turn to put Ruben to the test. I also wanted a Bartender's Reserve, and I told him to use any spirit as long as the drink focuses on banana or apricot flavor. He went to work, and after a short time a beautiful frosted glass was served to me. I forget all of the ingredients he mentioned, but it was rye based with banana liqueur, a small foam top, and fresh shaved cinnamon on top. The banana was perfectly present with the rye at a nice level. This was a home run all the way. Of course, she wanted another magical creation, and Ruben went to work yet once again. She was served a beautiful yellow cocktail, and he even hand cut a little lemon fish garnish. It was mezcal based with yuzu, elderflower, mango, and lime. It was perfectly balanced, the smoke was at the perfect level, and again it had a great mix of flavors. There was some left over, and he even gave that to her in a chilled side bottle with its own baby's breath flower garnish. It's so fun to watch their bartenders create something from scratch, grabbing various bottles, mixing, tasting, adjusting, and then garnishing and serving. In addition to Ruben's delicious creations tonight, Adrian and Sergio have also made us delicious custom crafted cocktails on several occasions. We will definitely be returning soon for some of their new upcoming themes.

Came for the drinks though, not the food. The ambiance is dimly lit to create the intimate vibe and there was a Great Gatsby theme. Not sure how often they change the theme but we'll be back soon to find out. Espresso martini was delicious, Across the Bay was delightful, but the ABSINTHE drinks were INCREDIBLE. The establishment is known for its innovative & extensive craft cocktail menu as well as creating the Naked & Famous, Oaxaca Old-Fashioned, & The Conference. Having won numerous awards honoring its cocktail menu and talented mixologists - it's a must visit for cocktail enthusiasts. I had been to the New York location many years ago and the L.A. spot has been on my radar. I was excited when I had the opportunity to check it out for a private event featuring Adam Fournier - 2021 World Class U.S Bartender of the year. The gentleman at the front door was very friendly - greeting guests as they walked in. Upon entering, you proceed down the stairs. There are two bars - a larger section straight ahead and a smaller speak easy style lounge to the left. Our party was in the dimly lit lounge, which was quite charming. I was surprised to see the same floor tile that is in my bathroom at home because it has a unique pattern. Adam was mixing up two inventive tequila-based cocktails and one with scotch. The place was packed and watching Adam's skilled precision & grace under pressure was impressive. I tried the Rein Picante - an expertly crafted mixture of Casamigos Reposado, Sherry, Fresh Lime, Passion Fruit, Spices, & Tamarind. It was perfectly balanced, smooth, and delicious. During the event we enjoyed light bites from Death & Co's kitchen, which were also tasty. The magical evening ended with a toast of Don Julio 1942. Cuz that's how we roll. *Street parking or adjacent lots - price varies.

I was pleasantly surprised when I sent an email to the address on the website and received a reply with the password in a little over thirty minutes. After parking, we didn't have any problems finding the entrance even though it is not marked. Look for the big wood double doors and doorman standing in front. After giving him the password, he opened the doors and we walked in. We were surprised in several ways. The place is way bigger than I would expect for a place named "The Speakeasy". And at 6:30pm on a Sunday, we were the only guests inside. Only one other couple came in during the 30 minutes we were there. I would assume they are a lot busier on Friday and Saturday night. It is dimly lit, and very red inside. The bar is large with many bottles of liquor on display and many seats. The rest of the space is one large area that must have at least 20 tables, and the ceiling is high. It gives off more of a nightclub vibe than a speakeasy vibe. I tried the Naked & Famous cocktail which has two of my favorite spirits (Vida mezcal, aperol, yellow Chartreuse, lime, $18). It was nicely balanced with a good mix of smoke and herbal flavor. She had the Pablo's Poison (Altos reposado tequila, strawberry, lime, jalapeno, elderflower, $17). The jalapeno flavor really stood out with strawberry and elderflower in the background. They have a good cocktail menu with almost twenty cocktails, as well as a food menu with ten items. Walk up to the bar to order your drinks. Jeremy, the manager, and the female bartender whose name who I didn't get were nice. We aren't in Pasadena very often, and while they have a good cocktail menu, I don't know if we would return. We were expecting more.

It's become so much more than just one of our favorite bars and every visit reminds us why we keep coming back. The biggest reason, though, is the people. Hospitality is something that's hard to fake, and the team here does it effortlessly. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted like an old friend. Over the years, the staff has created an environment that feels welcoming, comfortable, and genuinely personal, and that's something that's become increasingly rare. Matt, Sabrina, and the entire team are all such gems. Scott also deserves special recognition. He's a huge part of what makes The Rendition Room such a special place. Whether he's introducing a new cocktail, sharing the story behind a spirit, or simply taking the time to check in, his passion and care for every guest shine through. It's people like Scott who transform a great bar into a place you truly feel connected to. On our most recent visit, we tried the new Decade & Debauchery cocktail, celebrating The Rendition Room's 10 year anniversary, and it's phenomenal. Balanced, and beautifully executed. In a city full of great bars, they have managed to create something much harder to find, a sense of community. After all these years, it still feels just as special as the first time we walked in.

Not super huge but it wasn't overtly packed with people sitting / waiting for the show. We went on a Thursday night. The magic showroom was comfortable. We were sat on the wall booth which was a little hard to see at sometimes bc people were one in front of the other and not really staggered but the performers did move throughout the room. The performers were really great and entertaining. It was a nice time and I would consider coming back on another night
