We were recommend to seek out proper Rideshop for training by a local skate shop. He started with Proper and very quickly became a great skater. He is so happy with the coaches and how they are great mentors and motivators... he is excited to show them when he finally gets that new trick and they are just as excited for him. We love Proper!! The staff, coaches, facility and all the camps and trainning opportunities are absolutely wonderful. I would give them more stars if possible !

Dragon Boat Race 2022…read more When I first saw the posting on Facebook, I just couldn't imagine a cardboard dragon boat on land. Somehow, Chinatown 808, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and the Honolulu Chinese Jaycees, together with the sponsors American Savings Bank and USA Federal Credit Union, had a great idea to revitalize Chinatown with this event... At A'ala Park. Most residents of Honolulu avoid A'ala Park because of the homeless who hang out around the park. However, A'ala Park is known also for its popular Skate Park here. Some of the features of A'ala Park are: Small, free parking lot Water fountain (I wouldn't recommend it) Restroom (I think it was cleaned up for us) Basketball Court Large, open, flat grassy area I usually just drive past this park. I only stayed here for seven hours because of the Dragon Boat Race on 7-30-22. Special thanks to American Savings Bank for the Security. They watched our belongings while we were on the field and chased away a flasher who ran across the park!

Where is this park located? If you live on the east side........Waialae-Iki Park is just next door to the Blue Ribbon school - Kalani High School (known for their powerhouse football team! Buwahahahahaha! J/k!). The park itself features a very large "green grass field" which I find most times is used for soccer activities. This park also has a basketball court, a jungle gym apparatus so that the little ones and play & have fun. There is also a restroom, picnic tables & park benches on the park premises. Parking is available, as there is a private parking lot. If the parking lot is full, there is lots of free street parking along the perimeter of the park. With all that's going on during this difficult time, I'm glad the City & County of Honolulu reopened the parks recently, as it gives us a place to exercise and to escape from our lock down in our homes.

Mixed feelings were rolling in like if we should be worried or if it was safe at the park. There were tons of people, but everyone minded their own business so no one bothered us. I set the thought aside of something bad was going to happen so I can enjoy the day. We went to the beach took pictures and soak in the beauty. The water was so warmed and clear. Wanted to stay longer and dip in, but my son was looking forward to the arcade elsewhere. Good quick spot to stop by intaking breathtaking views of Honolulu.

Hello all skaters!…read more If you're interested in learning how to skates, come check out APB Skateshop and get your first skateboard with them. We were welcomed by Maynard. He seemed knowledgeable about skateboarding. He talked about the speed and acceleration. Skateboard wheels come in different sizes, design, colors, and durability. It's important to know how fast or slow you're moving and if you're looking for an easier or a little harder in turning those wheels. He recommended what is best for beginners without any knowledge of skateboarding. Maynard helped from start to finish. He helped with selecting the wheels, trucks, bearings and axle nuts. I love how he likes to get you involved in putting it together. The experience made it more enjoyable than just having to watch him. This place is located in Chinatown so parking is a little harder to find. You're lucky if you can get street parking. If not, there's a parking lot that charges $5 for the day. It's a bit much but if you plan your day accordingly then it's worth it. You can plan to have breakfast or lunch then check out the open market then hit APB Skateshop for your skateboards supplies! Whenever our little one slipped and fell while skating, team members promptly came to assist us without delay, making us feel cared for the whole time. What's even better is the separate beginner-only area on the ice, super friendly for inexperienced kids and grown-ups learning to skate. The entry fee is $19 per guest, which is very reasonable for the service and facilities provided. We'll definitely come back again!

Started coming here when they opened many moons ago and then as a mom with my kids for their…read morebirthday parties, so was happy to see not much had changed. Located at 4510 Salt Lake Blvd, in Stadium Mall shopping center which is Diamond Head of Aloha Stadium. It has plenty of free parking. Hours vary depending on the day due to ice hockey team practices, their games and skating lessons. Sometimes rink is closed for a week to two weeks for maintenance so be sure to check website first. Saturday hours are 10:00 am - 4:00 pm then close down and reopen at 5:00ish for the evening customers. Ticket prices are reasonable at $18 for all ages and include the skates. Must bring own socks. If you are not skating and merely a chaperone for young keiki, I didn't get charged. No outside food or flasks allowed. We were there Saturday morning and staff handing out the skates were quick and efficient so it went fast. You just tell them your size shoe and they're back in a flash with the skates. Enough tables and stools to sit down to put on skates. There's also aluminum bleachers on one side for onlookers. But bleachers are cold on your okole so maybe sit on your sweater? A fun live deejay keeps the music going entire time with jokes and other information. Kids and adults enjoy a cordoned off area with "walkers" to hold onto and push yourself around a small area to get the hang of it. Venturing out to the open larger part of rink you can clutch onto rails as you walk around or practice your spins in the middle of rink. There are two staff skate patrollers to enforce rules for the safety of others and they are very good about it and kind. Things like not holding hands in large groups - only a couple are allowed - no holding phones in hands to take pictures while on ice, no carrying of children on the ice, no jumping or racing allowed. Toward end of morning session the deejay turned off majority of lights and disco ball lit up to make it fun! How the kids screamed with glee when this happened. Then they do a limbo contest and the kids line up trying their best to skate under a stick as it gets lower and lower. No prizes given just the fun of participating! Onto the concession. Very nice staff working this area. Standard food like nachos, saimin, pizza and bottled water, hot chocolate available. Not real pricey and it's good to take a break then back to the ice. I noticed many kids not wearing warm items- shorts and tshirts - but evidently all the skating around gets them hot so they don't feel the cold at all. Onlookers beware it's like 40 degrees inside so I dressed warmly. A Pro Shop is available for gloves, hats, skates and other paraphernalia. Lose one star due to employee who wasn't very nice when I bought gloves for granddaughter but didn't fit her so went back right away to exchange and she wouldn't let me. Tersely said "no returns!" It's not like we wore them all day then tried to return. Just wanted to exchange within a couple of minutes of buying for larger pair. That being said I didn't argue, just paid the $6 for another pair. Bathrooms were roomy and clean with padded floors so you could walk in with skates on. Oh and one last thing, if you leave the rink they won't let you come back in without paying. You'll have to buy another ticket. This is to prevent people from buying cheaper or other food outside then returning. They want to keep their concession open so it makes total business sense. Grandparents enjoy babysitting because kids are on ice entire time and you can just watch them with a nice cup of hot chocolate! When the deejay announces they are closing up, there's a mad dash to return skates but all you have to do is plop them down on the counter- no need sign anything or check out with staff. Easy peasy!
