While there's snow on the East Coast of the mainland USA, it's a breezy 80 degrees (in the middle of December) on the Windward side of Oahu Island in the 50th State! Yes! I took for granted my tropical paradise home. Traveling makes me appreciate our island lifestyle... Here's a look at one of our many neighborhood parks... Heeia is a laid back, residential district in Kaneohe. It's north of Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. A popular park is Heeia Neighborhood Park because of the free parking, basketball courts, baseball field, children's playground equipment, and convenient restroom. There's even a few picnic tables - with attached benches - and water fountains! I'm just celebrating life in the Aloha State and wanted to share some sunshine with you wherever you are! Facilities include a baseball field, basketball courts with eight and ten foot rims, restrooms, picnic tables, open fields to play in, and most importantly, shade! He'eia Neighborhood Park, off of Haiku Road is nearby the Windward Mall Shopping Center and other shopping complex'. There's a small parking lot in front and, if necessary, the He'eia Elementary School's parking lot is utilized as an additional parking lot next door. The baseball park is named after the legendary Aunty Alice Hewett of Kaneohe. She is one of the greatest women to take charge and organizing sporting events around Kaneohe for the keiki. She's the best! Ultimately, He'eia Neighborhood Park is a nice place to come and relax. Or to enjoy a sporting event as a player or fan! Enjoy!!

The bad part is you must find street parking uphill or downhill unless you turn into a residential street. Kind of a challenge with many games going on at the same time plus you might have to struggle lugging your cart with chairs, umbrellas, coolers, etc. Definitely helps if someone or two sets up canopied tents to provide shade from the Hawaiian sun or sprinkles. Unless you love to turn a shade or two darker and get your daily quota of vitamin D. Actually a light sprinkle is refreshing if the sun is blazing down on you.

The grass is always green and cut. Itʻs not surprising to see a local worker pulled over having lunch at Bumpy Park. It's hard to walk thru the park at nite (coming home from the Shell, etc.) as then you walk through the Bumpy part and sometimes its treturous!

I'm surprised that I am the first to review this playground because the park has been there forever and is always full of people either having a picnic or doing fit4mom stuff. Ooh well here's the review. Access is restricted to personal that can get in base. Of course, you can get sponsored. There are no playgrounds on the Pearl Harbor side of Joint Base. All the playgrounds are on Hickam because that's where all the family housing is on base. This is the second largest playground on base. I like this particular park because of the rubber matting. The Community playground is the largest on base. Three things that the larger playground has over Vicker is 1: instead of rubber matting that one has sand. Sure you can build a castles but it's like quicksand when it's wet. 2: they have two swing sets and Vicker has none. And 3: the toilets there stink but it's next to the gym so go there. This playground has three BBQ pits and plenty of shaded park benches. And there is plenty of open space to lay down a blanket. The Community park not so much. Overall five stars because here kids can be kids and the parents are all friendly. This place is the aloha spirit. M

It also has a basketball court, volleyball court, and playground apparatus for little kids. I remember going to this park in high school. My friends and I would always go to this park during the summer to play basketball. It was a great park to play basketball at. I had some great memories at this park. But now many many years later, there's no more basketball playing yet, and instead it's playground equipment. It was my first time checking out the playground equipment and I was kind of disappointed. The equipment itself was still in working condition but there was a lot of rust on the edges of the equipment. I had to watch my daughter really carefully to see where she was putting her hands when she climbed up the stairs. The ground cover was also peeling off in some areas. Hopefully they'll get their playground equipment upgraded like other parks soon.

Bathrooms a little far away though. Kids can't wear floaty devices you need to put your hair up if it's past your shoulders and you need to shower before you go into the pool that's fair. They have sections wear you can swim and a place wear you can swim laps up and down the length of the pool. Kiddie pool wasn't open when we went.
