Finally, the generator itself started failing during last winter's snow and ice storm. There was both a board failure and an engine oil leak. During that failure, Eric was able to give me assistance over the phone that allowed me to check the unit and keep it going without a service call. I then had them put in a new system when my roads became passable. It was cheaper than wasting more money on old technology. My friends and family have also used them for installation, repair and maintenance. Bottom line, we trust these people more than any other company we've dealt with.

Charlottesville generator analyzed the problem. The installer never changed the orifice from Natural Gas to LP. Eric was responsive and knows his stuff. We had been having issues with being able to fill up our jetted tub without running out of hot…read morewater and also taking more than 2 showers back-to-back. I was also having to drain the tank about once a year and replace the bottom element as our house did not have a softener when we moved in, so it had a lot of calcium carbonate in the bottom. I called Bob Garret Services for an estimate about a new hot water heater with a mixing valve. Never knew that a mixing valve can increase your hot water volume by over 50%. Lawrence Hancock came over, checked everything out, and gave me a quote. He was very detailed in explaining things and low-pressure (no pun intended), and obviously very intelligent. Even though the cost was a bit surprising, I decided to go for it as this was the best water heater on the market. Lawrence came over the next day with new water heater, mixing valve, and thermal expansion tank (needed for to prevent pressure buildup in closed plumbing system and protect the well pump). He got everything installed, not to mention re-plumbing a few questionable joints on my water softener, anchoring some existing copper pipes to the block wall, both at no extra charge. Here's the kicker...not only can my wife use her jacuzzi now, but we have increased water pressure AND our 2-year-old water softener is working MUCH better. I'm extremely satisfied with Bob Garrett Service, not to mention with Lawrence especially. Great job guys. One less thing to worry about now.

Lately though we have been increasingly disappointed. In an apparent search for effeciency, customer service is slipping. Case in point, their new automated service notification system that supposedly provides you information on when to expect a technician to arrive. We have a service contract and a tech was supposed to come out to inspect the system to make sure all was working well. First, sometime today is not helpful. We have busy lives and other companies at least give you a reasonable window. Second, when we were finally provided an arrival time (between 12:30 and 1:30) and confirmed it, we waited for over 2 hours after that and never got an update or saw a technician. Texts to the automated system generated a form response that the tech was delayed...obvious and not helpful...maybe provide a revised ETA? Third, we finally called the office and canceled the appointment (it was about 4) and said we'd call back to reschedule. No apologies for the inconvenience...nothing. I am hesitant to reschedule and risk a replay of a wasted day due to questionable customer service. Last winter we had techs come out under the service contract to do the annual check up of the heating system. When we asked the technicians to show us the proper way to drain the boiler, they didn't know. Go back to a people run and focused approach. That was why we stuck with Davis so long in the first place.

He also said one of the compressors sounded like it might be going. We decided I needed a new system. The quote he gave me for a 4 ton heat pump was over $21,000!!! I called a second company and told them of the issues. The second technician wanted to diagnose my current system before quoting a price on a new one. He got the system running with NO NEW PARTS. The cost of the visit was $109.00. I would never recommend Davis to anyone.

A tree unexpectedly took down my power line on a Saturday and pulled the entire power meter and pole off my house. Since it was a weekend my usual electrician wasn't available and he recommended Volt Doctors. Their 24 hr dispatcher immediately answered and they had an electrician on site within two hours on a Saturday evening. Erik, helped get my generator running and hooked up, and an hour after that I had an estimate and repair plan in hand. On Sunday and Monday Summer was in frequent contact with updates and by Monday afternoon the repair was complete and good as new! The job came in under the projected time and under budget, so they reduced the cost to the real hours worked. I can't speak highly enough about Volt Doctors, THIS is how you run a business!

Instead, they recognized that the issues were probably on the supply side and suggested I contact my power provider. My power provider realized that the issue was theirs. It has been temporarily fixed as a second crew will need to come out to fix it properly. I had up to 8 people working on this issue for about 8 hours. Since this is a power company issue, it is going to cost me nothing. This says a lot about Valley Electric. They could have easily made a few bucks off of me but decided to do the right thing instead and provided excellent customer service.

He took apart both it and the light switch in his quest to find out what was wrong, tested every wire, the neutral, and the sockets to see if they had power, and replaced some small plastic items that needed replacing. When the fan and lights were working again, he was still not satisfied, because there was a small rattling noise, so he unscrewed the top of it to feel around, removed a piece of paper and did something else, tightened the screws, and I'm hearing just the slight hum of the fan blades as they whirl around. He will be the one I call the next time I need an electrician.
