The flies on the patio are beyond nasty. When I walked into the restaurant, people were complaining about the flies inside. That was nothing to the patio. But I came to see the band, food was really just a bonus. The food itself was really good - I had fried green tomatoes with pulled pork. The fried green tomatoes were fresh and crisp. The pork, however was room temperature. Honestly, if I had known about the flies, I doubt that I would have even considered eating tepid pork. There was a slight drizzle of sauce but I had to go back up and request sauce. Other reviews mentioned the saltiness of the dish. If anything, it was under seasoned. I bought my grandson a chicken finger kids meal and subbed mac and cheese for the fries. The meal came with three large house made tenders. They would have been enough for me (unfortunately the fly infestation made leftovers unthinkable.) Like the tomatoes, the tenders came sans sauce necessitating another trip to the counter. He devoured the mac and cheese. It was a little soupy and had kind of congealed sauce around the edges before it was even served. I'd order it for him again but not for me. Oh, and ask for a spoon before you leave the counter. The fork that came with was for all intents and purposes useless. (Yes, another trip to the counter). The patio is a great venue. Grab a beer, grab a seat and enjoy the band. As for food? Maybe wait until winter when the flies are gone. read more

So the restaurant is small but very cute, decor is nice and the workers were friendly and helpful. The food? Some of it was good, some not so much. The burger was delicious and the fries were as well, but could have used a few more on the plate. Kinda skimping on the fries, IMO. As for the smoked wings, the smoke was good but the dry rub was just too much. Even after knocking some of it loose it was still overpowering. The vinegar slaw was tasty but could tell the apple cider vinegar was highly representative in the slaw. The jalapeño garlic pinto beans were my least favorite on the plate. Just didn't have a good taste, IMO. Overall it was tasty and we may visit again but will try other menu options. Cost was high... so that was a bit disappointing for sure. read more

We came in on a Saturday afternoon and found seats right away. The menu had a lot of daily specials throughout the week, and everything looked great. There were six of us so we ordered a little of everything. Pulled pork, pulled chicken sandwich, ribs, mac n cheese, chicken fingers, baked beans, hush puppies, coleslaw, sides of white sauce and barbecue sauce. Everything came out quickly and was nice and warm-- we had read reviews complaining of lukewarm and cold food but we didn't have this experience. There were some flies, but it's the dead of summer in Alabama, and once the rolling garage door to the patio was closed the flies disappeared. An update from my last visit. First off, my wait time went from 30+ minutes to 15. I noticed a lot more people in the kitchen than before. Now to the food. Winner, winner chicken wing dinner!! Just finished a fantastic meal at the Hickory BBQ. Had the pulled pork plate. Pork was so tender, melts in your mouth and delicious, fried okra and the vinegar slaw. Absolutely delicious! While they have a wide range of allergy friendly options, they simply don't meet the right quality for the price. Staff is rarely attentive and usually feels in a rush to complete the sale. Newest addition to the bbq restaurants in the area and it's one of the best I've tried in N Alabama. It started with prompt friendly service to get my order placed. The food was prepared fairly quickly but it's obvious nothing sitting out ready to go. I started with boudin balls that were as good as any I had living in Texas. Got the 2 meat pulled chicken and ribs both were delicious add a little sweet heat sauce to the ribs and you'll be happy. Wasn't a huge fan of the garlic jalapeno beans but the fried okra was delicious. We had supper here. The good: all the meat was well seasoned, my youngest liked the fried okra, and my oldest liked the Mac and cheese. The ok: the hush puppies. I did not expect them to have jalapeños in them so I did not like them but my husband did and my youngest thought they were ok. The bad: the baked potato salad had too much dressing/sauce, the price of the brisket platter $21.99 was a little high for the portion received (2 slices). I am curious how much brisket is on the sandwich since that plate is $13.50. You do get an extra side with the plate, but sides are $3.99, so I don't know why the plate is so expensive. read more

Ordered pork bbq sandwich with baked beans and sampled my sister's potato salad. Extra sauce was pushed onto us as an up charge due to not knowing everyone's sandwich comes with some sauce on it. Not sure sauce was listed on the menu as part of sandwich as ordered or not. I would have automatically had sauce on the side. I did request slaw on the side. Nothing special about the sauce. It was a little too sweet and provided much needed moisture for the sandwich. Slaw was bland. Getting drinks was a chore. The placement of drink station caused us to double back on each other. Ice dispenser worked sporadically and should have been the first thing readily accessible. Lack of understanding how things are done and setup for customer use stands out. Standing in line for 15 minutes to order when ordering at one register and two other staff calling out orders is not practical. Also, when the person taking orders is doing other things instead of taking orders, customers are left standing and waiting. Originally tried to order brisket sandwich, but was sold out. The "cook to order" wording and telling it to customers to excuse wait times is not being truthful. Everyone knows bbq is cooked in advance of being ordered along with sides. There is really no excuse for this leading to 15 minute wait for food after ordering and going through drink debacle. Consider rerouting customers so that getting drinks allows them to go directly to seating without having to cross through the order line like most restaurants. The use of the word, God, on chalkboard menu, selling beer and portraying "cook to order" does not sit well with what I was taught through Christian teachings. This is a slippery slope. Otherwise, it would be acceptable to drink beer at church. I don't think it is acceptable to use Christianity to make money. Staffing front with young white girls and table cleanup with young black males is weird. Location of this place is not easily accessible on two lane road out in middle of no where. Took 30 minutes to get there. At least, I had other things to do on hwy 72. As far as taste, pork bbq meat was good along with baked beans and potato salad. Food is worth it when you can't get to chuckwagon. I'll probably go back when I know traffic on Blake Bottom Road is less. read more

No one comes to check to see if you need anything else. We have been here twice and we have tried a variety of the options and everything is always so amazing. Literally the best wings I've ever had. Really recommend the smoked tuna dip. Ribs and pulled pork are amazing, we devoured the loaded fries. Only two things were okay...the jalapeño garlic beans were delicious, just couldn't taste the jalapeño or garlic.
