Make sure to read your receipt. They have only a 30 day return policy. The plant that I bought for my Mom was slowly dying until there was no way for it to recover. However as big as Hicks nursery is , they refused to give me credit for this plant because of their ridiculous 30 day return policy. Buyer beware! read more

4th year coming to Hick's for their Santa land. They never disappoint. We made it to the 1pm meet with Santa. While waiting on line, I noticed one man front Hick's putting great effort in organizing and cleaning the Santa land area. Vacuuming, picking up trash off from the floor, and even using disinfectant wipes to wipe down the retractable belt for the queue line. Over the years, we we're lucky to run into the same Santa and sure enough we saw him again for the 4th time this year. It's incredible looking back at my son's photos with this exact Santa. He is very kind, a true gentleman and really has patience with all kinds of children. Bless his heart. I hope he can be Santa for many more years to come. I come here ever year around Halloween. I love you get to experience both Halloween and Christmas (go there and see what I mean) It's a nursery so they will meet most if not all of your gardening needs. I purchased 2 orchids recently and they both immediately started dropping their flowers. I read that they sometimes go dormant, so, I gave it some time. When I came into the store to return the plants, I spoke with the manager, Michelle and explained to her that I had some extenuating circumstances which is why I couldn't make it back back before the 30 day return policy. She couldn't care less and she said that there was nothing she could do regardless of the circumstances. I asked for a store credit - as I planned on shopping for more plants, but, she adamantly said there was nothing she could do about it. So, I walked out without purchasing any of the items that I went there for and went to Home Depot instead. You lost all the customers in my family and I would advise others not to give them their business either. read more

Went today to buy a Christmas tree and a wreath, and they had a huge selection of trees as well as decorations. Everything was beautiful, and they have so much to offer. Each staff member I encountered was so kind and helpful. They even had two men available to load my tree into my car for me. This was my first time there, and I will definitely be returning. I'm 26 and have been coming to Hicks with my boyfriend since we met five years ago. Neither one of us is into gardening and neither one of us live in a place big enough to decorate extensively. What we go to Hicks for is 1. the cafe, which has sweet and nostagic treats (apple pie and cider, cookies, hot soup, wraps, hot chocolate, etc), 2. the Halloween fun (walking through Otto's story, hay ride, candy, etc), 3. THE CHRISTMAS STUFF. We both (half Jews) LOVE a good display of Christmas trees and decorations. We go here in November and/or December just to stroll around and get excited. You will often find varieties of plants here that you will not find in other nurseries and that you will definitely not find in a Home Depot or similar big box retailer's garden department. We have purchased a ton of plantings from different nurseries in Eastern LI and most of what we purchase from here dies while plantings from other places almost always does well in our yard. Great selection of organic seeds and seedlings but this year's flower show was disappointing. No wow fsxtor. No fragrance. No creativity.

Overall they are very good. However, you have to be careful of pricing. I just went to their 70% off Christmas sale. I would say 30% of the items rang up wrong. If my wife didn't catch it we would have paid a lot more money. The cashier said its been ringing wrong all day. What a clever way for the store to make more money... a 70% sale turns into a 30 or 50% sale once you pay at the register. Could it have been a innocent mistake?...sure... do I believe that? no. Wow. This place is HUGE. I can't wait to keep exploring it. I got some beautiful flowers and some great looking pre-started tomato plants and herbs. I look forward to getting some large flowering bushes for next summer and I know Hick's is the place to go. Huge bonus, they're literally up the street from me! My family has been going to Hicks for years. My aunt being an avid gardener, trust this nursery. And as I can tell... so do many other people! They have a huge variety of plants, decorations, garden care items, etc. Basically everything you can get your "green thumb" on. Come here to pick up a few plants or to plan out your new landscape. Everyone here is friendly, helpful and not to mention (very important) they're knowledgeable. The holidays bring about fun activities for families and friends alike. This place is HUGE! It is clean and well organized, and the employees are attentive. I'll be the first to tell you that i dont have a green thumb, so when I walked in there I was a bit overwhelmed, but a very friendly and professional employee came up to me and offered to assist me with selecting a potted plant that fits my needs (one that you can forget to water and wont die). He did a great job asking about where the plant would be, the colors in the room, sunlight , etc. the most amazing part is he found a plant that is a broad leaf succulent with a burnt red stem that matches the color of my kitchen walls perfectly.. very impressive. As for prices, this the products are not all Home depot cheap, but you are paying for better quality and higher end plants. I recommend this place highly. read more

Going to Hicks is like stepping into an arboritum. I get an endorphin rush at this place as they have a TREMENDOUS SELECTION of all types of flowers and plants as well as all sorts of things connected to landscape and gardening. This is an extremely well run business that holds pleasant events around the year in conjunction with holidays like Christmas, Halloween etc. They also have a Garden Show at the beginning of the season with wonderful garden displays and fish and brooks and ponds. This review is based allllll off memory. I haven't been here in AGES!!! I used to love coming here in the fall. My grandparents would take me and my cousins here to see "Otto the ghost", a mystical creature that was turned into a show at hicks (for lack of better words). After we walked threw the haunted spook walk to see Otto, we would then go to the outdoor petting zoo and feed the goats. I used to love coming here. It was so great, and these are the things kids remember. We always left with bright red gums and teeth from the sugary candle apples that we inhaled. I recall picking pumkpins and face painting closer to Halloween. I'm sure they still have the spooky walk, and petting zoo. This is a MUST for young children (AND IT'S FREE!!!!). read more

Huge, with everything under the sun. Even a cafe with lattes and the whole nine! Merchandizing seems a bit over the top, and the prices are eye-popping. I just moved out from Manhattan, and I thought the city was expensive. Nope, Hick's has got em beat. They must be doing something right, they're clearly very successful. Was very excited to take our son here to see Otto the ghost and get our fall pumpkins and mums. We arrived an hour and half before they closed at 6pm and were underwhelmed. Very few employees the Halloween stuff was very sparse this year. We had a cart and were about 30 minutes before closing and an associate came up and said sorry I have to take that we are calling soon. So we didn't even get to buy any flowers or decorations because they took the cart!! As we are walking out the associates are at the front complaining that people are still shopping and they now close in 10 minutes. My goodness!! I have never heard of throwing your customers out but apparently that is how they conduct business. read more

We love this place! Keep in mind, it's more of a store than anything else so everything else they offer is just an extra. I saw reviews about Halloween and pumpkins and things but it's not a farm, it's a store. They have special events and stuff but it's by no means a Pumpkin Patch or a Christmas Tree Farm. It's a store. I have been here several times and we came a couple of weeks before Halloween for mums and specialty pumpkins which they had TONS of and at a good price. The huge mums were on sale $19.99 so we got 2. They are still alive and looking gorgeous to this day. We got tons of mushroom shaped pumpkins, flat white pumpkins, Cinderella pumpkins, mini pumpkins, regular pumpkins and acorn looking pumpkins. They had amazing photo opportunities with all their beautiful decorations around the store and lots of decorations for sale, anything you could possibly want. We were there again last night to see Santa and there was not a single person on the line so we got tons of great pics and took other pics around the store with their huge decorated tree in the middle of the store and the section of Christmas blow ups all set up. They have everything you could need for Christmas! Ornaments, blow ups, decorations, live trees, artificial trees & more. We also checked out the live reindeer (Donner & Blitzen I believe) although it was too dark out there to take a picture and they even had a little story time section too! Lastly, we checked out the fresh live Christmas trees and were shocked at the prices! We usually spend about $100-$120 on a 6-7 foot Blue Spruce and here they were only $69.99 plus they have a $10 off coupon on their website! What a steal! They do get very crazy crowded on the weekends so try to come on weekdays if you can. read more

Hicks is our go-to gardening center. This year we had a big project - new fence and hedge. Sean from Hicks worked side by side with our fencing contractor to schedule and complete the project. They were considerate of a short completion window since we have dogs. The Hicks landscapers removed the old hedge, cleaned up, planted some prior to the fence, and completed planting after the fence. The landscapers were neat, worked hard and fast and left a great impression. Although it was expensive, you get what you pay for, which is a healthy hedge, a drip-watering hose system, mulch, and a replacement warrantee. read more

I love Hicks nurseries I did go there during the winter months to see about ice skaters for the village I have but they were out of them so I know next winter I got to go early apparently not too many places are selling ice skaters anymore for a Christmas village who knows maybe they'll come back and he has Hicks is a nice nursery that has plenty of plans and also it's a nice items and activities for the kids read more

We recently hired Hicks Nurseries to help us re-landscape the large "backyard" of our corner home with exposure to a well-traveled main road in our village. Fences are prohibited in our village so landscaping has to do double duty for privacy as well as beauty. The old plantings in our yard had aged and deteriorated to the point where we had lost both beauty and privacy. Hicks came in, their landscape engineer created a plan that provided the absolutely needed privacy with simple beauty at a very affordable price (it's a LARGE yard). Came here today on a Monday from Brooklyn. I understand it's the week before Halloween, but they're out of apple cider. They sell chocolate covered "cider" donuts that are $4 EACH!! They're terrible. They're not even hot and fresh, they just sit out for the flies to land on and Don't taste anything like apple cider donuts!! Might as well go to Dunkin' Donuts it's much cheaper! Also, we went through the Otto the Ghost story line and it was so short! I remember coming here as a kid every year with my parents and it was much longer and so much better. I am really disappointed!! The only good thing left is the zillion ornaments they offer but you could probably find them anywhere for the same price or cheaper. They barely have any big pumpkins, however, some workers are unloading a few boxes as I type this. I feel like NJ farms offer so much more. I didn't do the kids hay ride, but even that looks short and basic. I guess next year I'll just go to NJ instead. read more

Last summer I decided to buy a small pink hibiscus plant here. It was really beautiful and bloomed for the rest of the season, but then it rather quickly got infested with white flies. I know plants can succumb to this, but I have diligently washed the leaves weekly and sprayed with pesticide, yet it's pretty close to dead at this point. I have a ton of other house plants that are all thriving. I have a hibiscus plant that I bought at Stop and Shop around the same time as this one, and it is doing wonderfully and has continued to bloom throughout all seasons, even this winter! I can't comment on the vigor of any of their other plants, but I feel hesitant to buy plants from them if they are weak compared to other plants. I contacted them using their form on their website to ask if there might be anything about their hibiscus plant that makes it more susceptible, like is it organic or non-gmo, and to ask if there's anything else I should try. They didn't respond. :( I would've appreciated some advice. It's still a nice place I like to walk around in. They have a really great variety and a nice assortment of planters. My family went to Hicks to replace our old Christmas tree (artificial). We bought it in early November, but didn't put it up until after Thanksgiving dinner - as is our tradition. Well, I sure wish that I'd opened the box sooner because I would have found out that at least one of the strands of lights wasn't working. So 2/3rds of the tree's lights worked and the rest didn't. Can't believe on a brand new tree that this would happen. Luckily we hadn't thrown out the old tree yet. So the family decided to stick with the old one and return the defective new tree. During the same purchase we bought a string of outdoor Christmas lights. I didn't put them up until early December. I had the same problem with the lights where part of the strand worked and the middle part didn't light up. It's an ironic coincidence because the 2 products were made by different companies. At this point, I opted not to try returning the lights partly because we were busy getting ready for the holidays and partly because it was about a month since the original purchase. My big gripe in both of these cases is that Hicks charges TOP DOLLAR for everything they sell. We used to purchase a lot of stuff for our yard and garden, but not so much lately. I could have gone to WalMart or another discount dollar store and bought sub-standard products. I wouldn't have cared as much then because you get what you pay for. In in this case, I paid at lot and got a little. Looking from the other reviews, Hicks gets high marks. However, that's from most of the free-loaders that come to see the holiday displays and take pics with Santa. Maybe a few of them hang around long enough to buy over-priced muffins in the new bakery they put in. But I can't help but feel like my purchases of expensive, defective merchandise help fund the holiday displays that all those cheapskates get to enjoy and reminisce so fondly about! read more
