The patio door off the kitchen was left unlocked both nights, which felt unsafe. The owner came and talked to us *without his mask on* multiple times, while we were trying to eat breakfast, so we didn't have our masks on - that was a little awkward. Also awkward was being pressed so to visit the tiger zoo or whatever it is, upon check in, and to join some random lodging site upon check-out. Seeing animals was nice, and the little details of the rooms were nice - paintings, curtains, lampshades; soap, multi-shower head shower; carafe of ice water that stayed cold till the next day... the wrap-around balcony.

For breakfast it was mostly do-it-yourself with pre-packaged breakfasts like frozen waffles but there was also a fruit smoothie drink, a yogurt parfait, and some seemingly fresh pastries. We are happy to sacrifice space in exchange for specific amenities like a large jacuzzi and were very pleased with the Queen Suite that we ended up getting (with a nice view of the mountains/the Jesus statue). The room was comfortable and clean. If I had any complaints, the in-suite coffee was underwhelming and the TV was kind of oddly situated, but that's very much a minor issue. The rest of the hotel was interesting and fun to explore as well. If we'd had more time, we would have checked out the bar in the lobby. The hotel staff were outstanding. Andrew(?) and Co. made a point to learn our names and were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and on-point with the valet parking service. Just a really good experience and good vibes.

Last night, there was a party with a live band (particularly terrible drummer BTW) right under our room until after midnight. It was so loud in our room that we couldn't watch a movie, talk to each other, or sleep. We could only put in earplugs and wait for it to be over. I could still hear all the lyrics through the earplugs, that's how loud it was. We are leaving a day early, even though we have already paid for tonight's room, because last night was so miserable. The hotel has effectively made this first floor room unusable on nights when the club right under it is open (W-Sa), and we were certainly not informed when we booked at their full price rate that this VERY LOUD party would be happening basically IN OUR ROOM UNTIL AFTER MIDNIGHT. Just ridiculous. I would not book the New Orleans Hotel first-floor suite again and would not recommend it to anyone else. As far as what the hotel should do to improve this problem: do not rent this suite out on nights when you are having loud parties right under it, and refund my money for this unusable hotel room.
