We had a lovely two night stay at the Inn at Union Pier! An older Inn esablished in the 1940s has a rich Has expanded and offers cottages and rooms on a beautifully garden area just steps away from a public beach on Lake Michigan. This place has tremendous character, with a warm and engaging staff! They offer bikes and chairs and umbrellas for the beach for guests, happy hour with wine & snacks a delicious breakfast that accommodated our vegan eating lifestyle!

An antique Swiss chimney of the type the owners put in the lobby and each room of the Inn

The staff was consistently helpful, friendly and anxious to be accomodating from the very first moment we arrived. The lobby and our Larkspur room were both beautiful, and the location is very close to a lovely beach. Also close to a nice shop where you can get a cappuccino, sandwiches for lunch, etc. The Inn's offering of towels, an umbrella and beach chairs was a cut above what some other places offer. Our caveats that would make this a 4.5 star (which Yelp didn't offer) was that the breakfast was so-so (commercial muffins, juice and fruit), perhaps because we were there after Labor Day. Pillows in the room had also seen better days. But those were quibbles. This was a memorable and enjoyable romantic getaway, and we would return.

Very cute inn. Stayed here for Memorial Day weekend. Loved: - Two hour tastings of bottles from local wineries every evening - Free use of beach cruiser bicycles - Proximity to the beach (200 steps!) - Tranquil lawn with hammock, benches, and chairs - Menus from the local restaurants stored in the Great Room - Outdoor jacuzzi - Towels provided for the shower & for the jacuzzi - Well-portioned and tasty breakfast served at individual tables - Sweet innkeepers - Cozy, reasonably priced rooms Know Beforehand: - No fridge in room, but you can put your stuff in the main house's kitchen fridge - No TV in the guest rooms. See TV in the dining room or at one of the local bars/restaurants. Bring your laptop to watch DVDs.

Location is everything on a trip and this Inn is perfectly close to all the action. Walking distance to the beach (though I went in the winter), walking distance to some eateries, and a short drive to the wine vineyards. But that is not the only thing that makes this Inn perfect for a getaway. The seclusion, lack of noise, friendly (but not intrusive) staff, free homemade cookies, quaint (no tv) rooms, wine tastings, Swedish fireplace in the room, and list goes on and on. I think it might be a little pricey but if you find a deal go for it.

Totally relaxing. Nice decor, beautiful gardens and just a short walk to the beach of Lake Michigan. Plan on 3 days if possible to just rest and recharge. Great deli / grocery store a short walk away. Also their breakfast are superb. Also within a short walk is the Red Arrow Road House Restaurant. Excellent place for dinner opens at 5 PM. Also this bed and breakfast offers free wine and popcorn at 5 PM for their guest. If I had the time I would stay another night.

Once again, we loved our stay. Twice this year we visited the Inn, and we are now regulars having been here well over 6 times. It is the perfect place to turn down and unwind. We love the area, the staff are always accommodating and friendly, even noticing my husband's health issues had improved. It is quiet and just downright nice.

Main room fireplace. Enjoy some wine and popcorn while listening to some relaxing music.

Nothing better than a weekend in Union Pier at the Inn of Union Pier! No stress or worries, just plenty of laughter and relaxation. The Inn is perfect and the Innkeepers take care of everything. I appreciate all of their attention to detail to make it a perfect stay. We have been coming here for about 20 years and we'll keep coming back!

The worn wood floors, heavy oak doors, and humble, mismatched old furniture are part of the charm. On the rainy fall weekend I came, their rates were lower than the nearby Baymont and Holiday Inn Express. The place was quiet and cozy. The lobby is quite nice and inviting. I stayed in room 2. It had a fridge and microwave, individual-room temperature control (which some of these old inns don't have), no TV (ok with me, and helped insure against noise from adjoining rooms), ceiling fan, and a little outside porch. The bathroom was very clean, though the baseboards and corners of the room itself were dusty and needed attention. Bed was average/ok, not luxury but not awful. Pillows were thin and could have been nicer. The innkeepers on duty as well as the people I emailed at various times before coming were all helpful and accommodating. My only serious gripe was that the wifi was nonexistent on my end of the building. They claim they're getting another access point.

My husband swept it off. And weeds around patio. We got woke up at 2am by the neighboring room. Slamming the door, talking, yelling at the dog, cussing and sounded like dropping things all morning. A storm came through and knocked the power out so between no power and a very very noisy neighbor we ended up checking out at 730 am. The last 2 issues aren't necessarily the Inns fault, but just not as good of a stay as before.

Both cabins we've stayed in offer wall units and one also had a ceiling fan. I think adding ceiling fans to all units would be very beneficial, as well as considering installing central AC. Unfortunately due to the climbing age of some of the family and the lack of AC, we will be looking elsewhere next year.

We were a little hesitant because of past reviews on this site (specifically the unit having a smell) but after reviewing the site and talking to the Firefly, we learned the unit was recently purchased by new owners and completely renovated, so we decided to go for it. We we SO happy we did, our summer getaway could not have been better. The unit was pristine, you can tell the couch and bed were new and they were actually comfortable (which is a big deal for me, I am typically really critical of rental unit furniture and I hate having to use it when I am away from home). But I felt really good about using these and I slept very well. The bathroom was lovely, it also felt very clean and newly finished. The kitchen was a little tight but it was ideal for making food to avoid having to go out. I think my absolute favorite part of this cottage was the screened-in porch. Waking up early and getting to listen to the woods and the waves in a protected cove surrounded by tall ferns was magical. I even was lucky enough to see a few fawns! Oh, and there was no smell. I will be coming back!

It's walking distance from the beach and the main strip. We parked our car when we arrived and never touched it all weekend. The hotel also provides bikes to rent but we found that most places are walking distance and the roads/paths are not very bike friendly. Check in was super simple. Our room was very clean and updated. I wish they had smart TVs to connect to Netflix but we didn't spend much time watching TV anyways so it wasn't a big issue. The restaurant did seemed to get a bit noisy at night which drifted up to our room. The breakfast baskets were a BIG hit! The frittatas tasted so good! The fruit cups were also so fresh. I tried the prosciutto croissant on our last day which hit the spot. The quality of food was top notch - just wish we were able to order more! I had an appointment at the spa as well during our stay. While the TV had a very good range of channels, the lack of a sleep timer again adds to stars being subtracted. Not having a microwave in regular rooms should be a no no for resort hotels. My favorite part was watching the sunrise over the marina from the balcony in the morning. It was a vibe. The room also had a fireplace which came in handy since it was around 40 degrees on the night we were there. Overall the room was nice and the view made it worth it. While there were some great amenities, they didn't quite match up to what I was expecting. They recently opened up The Living Room area in the lobby which has breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks in the evening. They also gave us drink tickets as well to use on coffee or drinks. Breakfast starts at 8am, but I am an early riser and was hoping for a coffee while I watched the sunrise. I did make a tea with the electric kettle in the room. The lobby/Living Room set up is perfect for drinks, not so much for a family having breakfast. They do sell local Michigan snacks, but you have to ask at the front desk and they have to find them. I would've just preferred a vending machine or an easier way to get snacks between 8pm and 8am when the Living Room is not open. The pool and jacuzzi were great, but we did have a hard time finding them. The indoor pool entrance was through an unmarked door on the second floor so it took us a few minutes of exploring to find it. I don't think the indoor pool was heated, but it wasn't too bad. The hotel is very centrally located so it was just a short drive to the beach, restaurants, and shopping.
