The cook serves your food, you pick out your own drink from the cooler. Most lunches for two come out around $6-7. What makes Dirt Town so special is the crowd. It's the neighborhood meeting place for miles around, and there "the liar's club" gathers for breakfast. That's a group of elderly war veterans (WWII, Korea, Vietnam) who sit around and talk. The conversation is friendly, animated and covers everything from taxes to television. Listening is like being in a time machine, and it's an amazing, wonderful experience. No one who walks in is a stranger, so be prepared to start chatting with your neighbor and new friend. No kidding. Dirt Town is open from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. It's between Rome and Summerville on Highway 27, about 13 miles north of Rome, the closest city of size. There's always older men sitting around telling stories from the way way back & A basket of fresh picked peppers on the table. It's a great place for comfort food, and making you feel like your visiting your grandparents.
